Compare PB screen to PC screen

I was just looking at a new Powerbook today and when leaving the store (CompUSA) I noticed the screens on some Toshiba,Compaqs and even HP's laptops which had a very bright and beautiful looking screen. The Toshiba tag said it was "trubright technology". So what is this screen they offering over in the PC world which I can't get on a new powerbook?
Based on my quick evaluation of it I think is better. Maybe there is more to it which I would like to understand.
thanks

There is more to it. These screens as found on many PC laptops are called "glare" screens. For a good reason. They eliminate the anti-reflective diffuser layer as found on PowerBook screens. The benefit is higher contrast and a nice, clear appearance. The drawback is they can really reflect their surrounding environment, including light sources, and that can be distracting. I prefer the status quo but I know a lot of people want Apple to offer glare screens as an option. There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods.

  • How does ARD compare with Screen Sharing

I make a lot of use of Screen Sharing for managing multiple computers across the internet. However, with the drastically reduced price of ARD on the App Store I am tempted to replace my Screen sharing usage. However, if all I need is screen sharing do I gain anything ?

Only the ability to show multiple computers at once
    http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/remoteassistance.html
and perhaps Curtain Mode (that may be in the normal screen sharing; I can't recall). Other than that, ignoring all the other features and functions of ARD, then unless there's something I'm not thinking of, the screen sharing capabilities are the same.

  • IPhone 5s screen color issues

Got a 5s, love, however I was wondering, the color white seems "yellowish". I was able to get one (AT&T) through Best Buy, and ordered one through Apple. Both phones seems to have the white color issue. I went to the Apple store and compared the screens, my phone seems "yellowish", even confirmed by the Apple employee. Anyone else having issues?

Thank you for your help, Shipping cost is a issue. I will contact the apple soon

  • Gradient problems ...funny texture in screen

I just received my new macbook the other day.
The screen seems to have a texture pattern in the display.
I am assuming this is a inherent thing in the glossy display.
The main issue i am having is the color saturation and gradient problems.
I have been using an imac for the last couple of years, and have only started to use leapord for the first time on the macbook. I though apple intentionally desaturated...but in fact, it seems like the screen has a dull saturation.
I am always seeing un smooth gradients and a lot of dithering. In fact, it's almost in everything. I have read things on the internet about 6bit displays and such but never got any real facts.
I have heard of people getting the display replaced because of this issue.
I am not sure if it is common in all macbooks or just some.
    Any info would be awesome.
    TIA,
    ADAM

    Thanks for your reply,
I have a few different problems with my screen.
The back of the laptop screen is being illuminated by the lcd, especially around the edges.... It is not as bright as the illuminated apple logo, but is pretty strong.
I've talked to many friends that have mac books and have never seen this issue. I am sending my macbook back and they are sending me another one for that reason.
I also looked at many macbooks just the other day. I looked at numerous friends macbooks and even went to best buy to compare their screens with mine. The screens on those macbooks are far better. Two issues, first, the gradients are really bad. They are not near as noticeable on other macbook screens. Sometimes you have to tilt the screen to notice it, but on my macbook, not very far. It is almost impossible to do graphics work on it. The best I can describe this....it reminds me of a PC that is missing a graphics driver (lots of dithering on subtle color changes.)
Second, the screen has a very light texture being displayed on the screen, kind of a micro check pattern. Again, this is not noticeable on other macbook screens (I originally though it might be on all "glossy" screen).
All in all, Apple is doing the right thing and letting me get it replaced with another. I hope that this macbook I am sending back just had a defective screen...and it's not apple changing the screens on them. If they are in fact changing the screens, then i have to say that they are inferior to the old ones....( and your paying the same price). If the macbook I get in the mail a few days has the same problem, I will, unfortunately, have to return it for a FULL refund. The laptop will not be suitable for the work I do.

  • Macbook Pro Screen (Matte) Vs. PowerBook Screen

    Hello,
I'm looking at the beautiful screen on an old, newly revived 15-inch PowerBook G4 DVI (667 MHz) right now and I'm wondering. . . does the new MacBook Pro's screen (the matte version) look as good? I've heard about screen issues, but I'm just wondering if the screen looks as good as this old one.
Right now I'm used to a 12-inch PowerBook G4 screen, which I believe is basically an iBook screen. Just to give you a baseline.
    Thanks!
    -Dustin

    Dustin,
I have the 17" MBP, and I compare its screen to the
17" Powerbook that I had before it.
To my eyes, the MBP screen is far superior. Side by
side, the comparison reveals that the MBP screen, in
addition to being much brighter, provides better
colors; truer whites, and more saturation overall.
I have no "graininess" issues. Yes, I can see a
slight grain in the anti-glare coating incorporated
into the screen, but I never notice this when I am
using it. I would guess that this is what people
complain about when they mention grain. However, I
don't believe it impacts the actual image that is
being displayed. Also, my viewing angles are about
what I had with my Powerbook.
    Scott
The 17MBP has almost no grain. IT's the 15" that has all the graininess. The 17MB only suffers from uneven backlighting - at least the 09c62 models...\
I would love to have a 15" again (i have a 17 now), but I just can't live with that screen.

  • Screen Protector for the TM2

Anyone know of a good screen protector for the TM2 that doesn hinder the touch screen? I have done a search but nothing comes up. Maybe its just too new for now.
    Will a TX2 screen protector fit? I don't have a TX2 so I can't compare the screen sizes.
    Thanks

I am using the Photodon protector for the TX2. It's honestly a bit small. They will cut them to size. I found videos online and apparently the Photodon interfered the least as far as glare reducing screen protectors go. It does reduce the touch sensitivity some, but I've noticed very little difference after initial adjustment. I like to take my college assignments and reading to the park with the kids and the nice mirror screen does not do well for that, so I went for the glare reducing despite the bit of fuzziness that results. The display works quite nice in spite of it. The inking, which I thought was excellent before the protector, is actually even better. I think the minute amount of texture actually enhances pen action. My two cents. I'm ordering another custom fit to size presuming my replacement machine performs better than my initial. I'm having a ton of post errors. I think it's bios, honestly, but HP offered me a deal I'm having a hard time refusing...still very torn. I ordered this to my specs with nearly every upgrade included. The replacement would not have my fingerprint reader and I've been trying to go without it to determine whether I can live without it. Frankly, in tablet mode, it's a godsend, although it is not nearly as functional as my old Toshiba laptop's was...It would register far more websites and programs than the one included with the tm2...still, logging on from sleep in slate is miserable without it! I tried an app that lets you sign your name instead, but it doesn't seem to like Win 7 64 no matter what I do, including unpacking the MSI and manually placing files in folders.
Sorry, got off topic...but give Photodon a try.

  • Sub screen: Layout changed after applying the Patches

    Hi,
I created a sub screen and used the same in a standard screen. The issue is that when I compare the screens i.e. the layout of the sub screen and where it is actually used(standard screen), they differ.
The sub screen was being displayed properly before the Patches were applied.
Does applying the Patches has anything to do with this? If so, how to resolve this?

Here are the list of patches applied in that order 1) 7427746 2) 8349148 3) 12992649All those patches are related to Assets module and should not have any impact on the concurrent requests in general (from the README files and the MOS docs).
If no other changes have been done recently, then I would suggest you log a SR.

  • Screen Sharing issues with ML and SL  with dual displays??

Don't know if this is a ML issue or was present in Lion (which I never upgraded to)
    Setup...
Old setup was 2010ish MBP and only 2006 iMac.  Both with SL 10.6.8 and both have two monitors...no issues.
Upgraded to ML on the MBP on release.  Realtively painless process.  I tried screen sharing today and I get odd responses with the MBP to the iMac.  Just so everyone knows, screen 1 is the main iMac screen and screen 2 is the additional monitor.  When showing both screens I could see all screen realestate.  However, when I changed to only display screen 1 I started having issues.  I couldn't get the entire screen to fit within the window nor scroll to show areas not displayed.  Sometimes switching between fit in window and no fit, I would get a blank screen.  Screen 2 only displayed and all is fine.  I noticed on screen 1 that there was a little black bar or open space on the bottom of the window that was exactly the same size that was missing from the top.  No ability to fit or scroll would allow the black space to move so that the menu bar on the top of the main monitor would display.
After doing a bit of searching with no luck and scratching my head, I took a look at the Arrangement screen in the display settings.  Wouldn't you know it that the main screen (having a smaller resolution than screen 2) was aligned so that the top of each display was even with each other leaving a small space on the bottom of screen 1 compared to screen 2.  When I moved screen 1 in the arrangement screen to a more drastic alignment to verify this was the problem...screen sharing crashed when going from both screens to only display screen 1.  Tried screen sharing again going from two displays to one, crashed again.
It appears there is some sort of bug or maybe ML and SL screen sharing doesn't like each other when the remote computer has two monitors.
Submitting bug report to Apple but was curious if anyone else has seen this or knows a work around.
    Mike

I have a similar configuration (Lion 2011 MBP and SL 2009 iMac w/ second display). After installing the recent Remote Desktop update things went awry when trying to share the iMac SL displays with the MPB Lion.
The displays on the iMac are the same resolution, however the second display physically sits a bit lower than the iMac display, so I had adjusted the arrangement to compensate the different heights. The second display is located physically to the left of the iMac display, but that shouldn't have any effect as far as I'm concerned. Screen sharing had worked in this config until the recent Remote Desktop update (on Lion).
I thought about what you mentioned about the display screen arrangement, so I decided to just test it for myself, arranging both displays side-by-side on the displays arrangement control panel. Surprisingly, it worked!
I do consider the Remote Desktop update to be the culprit and there must be some bug associated with that. I'm getting ready to submit a bug report, so hopefully we'll see a fix soon.

  • Regarding screen comparison

    hey guys,
Is it possible to compare two Screens from 46C to ECC and find the differences.
for example, Screen layout and Field label texts changes between two systems.
    With respect to screen level.
pls suggest me if any function module exists. Can somebody shed light on this
    regards
    ambichan.

    Hi,
    Try this..
If you have RFC connection to ECC..
Then in SE51..utilities -> version management..Do remote comparison to the ECC system.
    OR
Download both the screen layout..and then compare them in an external editor.
    Thanks

  • How MUCH does the glossy screen reflect?

When working on a MBP with glossy screen, can you see your own reflection, like a shadow of your face or something? If I wave on the front of the computer when the desktop is showing, do I see my hand waving on the screen? I know that when the computer is not on, it's a complete mirror. I certainly don't like it to be a mirror, but the depth of colors made the glossy screen interesting. If the glossy makes that much glare, I have to go for the matte, thanksfor the info.

The Dells and HP's are horrible and have a constant
reflection. The MBP, on the other hand, is deep and
rich in color. It does not reflect when you are
sitting in front of it; at an angle you do get some
reflection, but I really don't notice it because the
screen is that good. I have a number of Powerbooks
with the matte finish and I really prefer the glossy
screen. I must say the new matte screens are much
brighter and nicer than the old ones. Best thing to
do is to go by an Apple store and compare the screens
    side by side.
Agreed... I'm using a new MBP C2D glossy right now. I work with HP's, Compaq's, Toshiba's, and Sony's all day - Apple's glossy screens are noticeably less reflective than all of them... usually HP's are the worst (almost like a mirror!)

  • Ordering a Macbookpro - Glossy or Matte screen?

I am going to order a new macbookpro - But I want to know should I order the glossy or matte screen? The biggest disadvantage I can see with a glossy screen is that it is so reflective.
So I would like the opinions of aperture users.

    The best advice :
Go to an apple store and compare both screen (open aperture on both MBP).
I did this and I chose the matte screen because of the reflexion, the calibration issue (lots of threats on the net about calibration on matte Vs glossy).
With Glossy you really have to be in front on the screen because the colors are changing a lot if you moving your head.
And last but not least, I never see a pro glossy LCD. Should be for a reason
    But it's a personnal taste

  • 1.33MHZ vs. 1.5MHz screen quality?

I am hoping to get a new 12-inch PB next month and I have read some complaints about the quality of the screens (poor viewing angle, low sharpness etc.). So, I was wondering if there is any marked improvement in the latest revision (1.5 MHz). Has anyone had an opportunity to directly compare the screen in the latest 12-inch model with the previous 1.33MHz model, or earlier versions? How do the screens compare?

I don't think Apple will change to XBrite LCDs for two reasons
I'm not necessarily suggesting Apple upgrades to XBrite displays, but they can certainly upgrade to something better. Especially in the 12-inch PB, which is the runt of the PB litter in display quality.
As for power, I agree that Apple shouldn't do anything to reduce battery life, but they might not have to. Who's to say the next generation of better displays will use any more power than the last? Technology marches on. And Apple's move to Intel (most likely Yonah CPUs in the PBs) should save power, which can drive a better dispaly. Users can always turn down the brightness to extend batter life.
In short, I think there's no technological reason for Apple to not upgrade the PowerBook displays, though I am not pushing any particular technology.

  • Screen: Glossy VS. Anti-Glare

I'm trying to decide which one of these screens i should chose to a MBP 17"..
i am studying multimedia design and communication, where i make websites and ads.
That's why i want you advices, because i don't realy know which one i should take

Neither one is universally better than the other.  I know of at least one person here who I would be surprised if he didn't chime in to say that glossy screens suck and you should only consider anti-glare.  But really, it's a completely personal thing.  The glossy screens are awfully pretty, but can have glare issues.  The anti-glare screens don't have so much glare, but aren't quite as pretty (IMHO).  My advice is to visit an Apple Store or Best Buy and take a look at some machines.  Compare both screen types side-by-side and see which you like better.

I just received my brand new iPad 4th generation, when I compare the screen to my current 3rd generation there is a def yellowish warm tint to the new ipads screen.
I probably wouldn't even have noticed it if I did have them both side by side for comparison.
I have included a couple of photos for you guys to see!
You can tell me which one you think looks 'wrong'
My question is basically will the screen tint change gradually over time???
Or should i swap it for a new one?
The tint is over the entire screen.
