Compatibility Issues / Airport Freezes?

Hi There,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I recently purchased an Airpot Extreme Basestation - Running version 7.2.1. I have workstatation running Windows XP SP 2 connected to a LINKSYS Wireless-G Portable USB Adapter - with the latest drivers. I also have a MACBOOK.
My Macbook has no problem connecting to the Airport BS - however the XP machine can not even see the Airport BS.
I'm also having problems where the Base Station completely locks up. My wireless connection to the macbook is dropped. Even if I plug directly into the Airport BS, the Airport Utility can not connect to the BS. However, if I unplug the Airport and plug it back in - every thing returns to normal.
For a router that costs me almost $225 - it sure is giving me alot of grief. I purchased this router because i've had so many problems with routers in the past. I figured I'd spend the money on a quality APPLE product - but it seems as though the AIRPORT extreme does not live up to it's expectations.

Am I still capable of sending a wireless 802.11N signal to the laptop, and having the laptop accept that signal IF I install a Wireless-N Notebook Adapter first....?
Yes
The capabilities of the G5 have absolutely nothing to do with the capabilities of the AEBS.
Is the brand of adapter important...
Probably. You will need to solve Windows OS issues I don't have any experience with that. Not all 'n' adapters are 'draft'. Some are "pre-n".
Can I easily configure the AEBS to operate in EITHER b/g or N mode....?
Yes
I've read that CHANNEL DESIGNATION of the Apple router is important, so that communication with the receiving computer is possible (I recall reading that I should stay away from Ch.13 (European) and go with 11 or lower)....?
A US AEBS will ONLY give you the ability to use channels 1 to 11. Channel 13 will not be available.

  • Are there any compatibility issues with Sonos and Airport extreme??

are there any compatibility issues with Sonos and Airport extreme??

Sonos uses its own priopietory wireless protocol SonosNet to distribute audio data among all its products, thus it should not affect other network devices which use standard WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n protocol at all though they may share the same radio channel for wirless signaling.
On my dual-band (5 GHz / 2.4 GHz) Airport Extreme staion, I select the option "802.11n Only (5GHz) - 802.11n (2.4GHz)" and turn on "Use wide channels" in Wireless configuration in order to use only 802.11n protocol and more radio channels to achieve maximum wireless bandwidth of 400 Mbps. This bandwidth is necessary for quick Time Machine backup to NAS connected to the Airport Extreme station through Ethernet cable. So my iMac and MacBook Pro always connected to the Airport Extreme through 5 GHz radio channel with 802.11n protocol whereas my iPhone 4S always connected through 2.4 GHz radio channel with the same protocol.
In my living room Sonos ZP-90 (same as new CONNECT model) zone player is connected to Airport Extreme directly through Ethernet cable (recommended by Sonos) and Sonos S5 (same as new PLAY:5 model) zone player in bedroom is connected wirelessly through SonosNet protocol to the ZP-90 zone player in living room.
These devices are in operation simutaneouly most of the time. Music is playing through the Sonos ZP90/S5 zone players througout the day, I am streaming viedo through Internet (fibre broadband 25 Mbps) on my MacBook Pro in bedroom or iMac in living room or reading news on my iPhone. So far so good and have no encounter any interference problem for about three years. Further more bandwidth for 802.11n protocol does not seem to be affected at all.
In fact with a low power Fujitsu USB drive (2.5" / 500 GB, designed for notebook) plug into USB port of Airport Extreme, it can be used as NAS drive for Sonos music distribution system without any problem. Just transfer all files from Music folder in my home directory on iMac into this NAS drive and set it up as music source in "Manage > Music Library Settings" in Sonos Controller for Mac application will do. Though the same drive can be served as Time Machine's backup disk as well, an independent full-fledged NAS drive for Sonos and Time Machine backup is better long-term solution for reliability and performance. With the NAS configured as sole music source, you do not need to keep any computer powered on all the time in order to play music through the Sonos system.

  • I have just purchased and installed a new Airport extreme base station but now the Airport Utility cannot see my old Airport Express. Are their compatibility issues and do I need to purchase a new Express?

I have just purchased and installed a new Airport extreme base station but now the Airport Utility cannot see my old Airport Express. Are their compatibility issues and do I need to purchase a new Express?

When you can, take a look at the old AirPort Express and locate the model number in the faint print on the side of the device.
If you see A1084 or A1088, this is an older Express version that is no longer supported by the current version of AirPort Utility that you are using with the new AirPort Extreme.
If that is the case, your Express is at least 6 years old...probably older...so it is about time to treat yourself to a new version with much faster speeds and more features.

  • 3G Compatibility Issues

I have noticed that there are a few scattered posts regarding problems with the 3rd Gen Nanos and 3rd party accessories. We have 1st, 2nd, and now a 3rd Gen Nano. We also have Altec Lansing IM3, IMPlus speakers, as well as a generic wall charger which all work fine with the 1st gen and 2nd gen nanos. For the first 5 weeks of ownership, the 3rd gen Nano worked/charged normally with the aforementioned items, then it started acting up. When attached to the above accessories, the screen would freeze and the face controls would not work and the Nano would not charge, unplugging the Nano would bring the Nano back to full functionality. The 3rd Gen does charge using the PC USB cable. The 1st Gen and 2nd Gen Nanos still function as designed when attached to these same items.
We tried the 5 R's, even rolled back the version to 1.0.1, sent the unit to Apple service (unit was sent back and sent back with "no problems found" along with a form letter which obviously had been photocopied numerous times with the ever helpful tips on how to charge my ipod).
I can sort of understand it if the 3rd Gen Nanos were incompatible with older 3rd party accessories (not great from an existing customer standpoint), but I do not understand how our 3rd Gen was compatible for 5 weeks and now isn't.
Does anyone know if the 3rd Gens are indeed incompatible with accessories that are compatible with the 1st Gen and 2nd Gen units?
Is everyone having these compatibility issues or only a lucky select few?
    Thank you in advance!

i wish there was a solution. i'm a computer tech and i have 2 clients with windows 7 and outlook 2010 with this problem. i've contacted both apple and microsoft and both blame the other for the problem. i haven't been able to find any answers on the forums either.

  • MSI R9 290X Lightning & PCIe 2.0 Compatibility issues?

A week ago I purchased the 290X Lightning from Amazon (Sadly, their logistics service was horrendous and is another reason why I returned both), Instantaneously I had issues. I thought the card must have been faulty as I have a 700W Cooler Master rated PSU which could easily handle the load I would have thought... (Correct me if I'm wrong here. I did try both cards with 8+8+6 and just 8+8 Pins), so I returned it for a replacement.
Sadly, the second card also had these issues of constant rebooting or freezing/stalling on light loads or heavy loads (more frequently lighter loads oddly enough?) e.g. Using VLC or Web Browsing.
It occurred to me today that the 290X has a different method of power delivery and uses the PCI express bus slot for power too, is there any reason to speculate that my Motherboard (ASUS M4A78LT-M) with Generation 2.0 PCIe x16 slots have compatibility issues with the 290X lightnings power delivery?
I would love to try and get a working 290X lightning but I cannot waste my time and money constantly sending them back...
    For reference:
    My Current System:
Operating System: Windows 8.1 with Update 1 Pro N 64 Bit
    CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965
    MOBO - ASUS M4A78LT-M
    RAM - 2x4GB Kingston Hyper-X Blu
    GPU - Sapphire HD 6850 1GB (Before MSI 290X Lightning(s))
    SSD - SanDisk 128GB
    HDD1/2 - 2TB WD Green / 320GB Samsung
    Monitor(s) - 29" LG 29UB65 & 23" LG (Forgotten Model) Monitor
    Case - Corsair 750D
PSU - Cooler Master Silent Pro M, 700 Watt, 80+ (Bronze) - NOTE: Yes the CM PSU does have two separate 8 pin PCI connectors (Each cable has 6+2 and 6 pin connectors)

    Sounds like your PSU!
I myself am running an 850 Watt PSU, and with the beast of a card the Lightning is, 700 May truly not be enough.
PCI-E Gen 3.0 cards are backwards compatible with Gen 2.0, so that is not the issue. Up until last week I was running the Lightning on an Asus Saber-tooth 990 FX R2.0 board which is Gen 2.0 and had no issues. But my UPS battery alarm would go crazy when I fired up a game. This never happened when i had even 2 x GTX 780 cards in SLI, so this card alone is still pulling more juice than my system ever had (even with SLI 780's). So I would really suspect your PSU is the culprit here.
What drivers are you running? I had Bluescreen with the latest 14.6 betas and eyefinity......
(And why don't you like Amazon's logistics, I find amazon the be one of the BEST on-line e-tailors I have ever used)

  • Compatibility issues with Mac OSX Leopard 10.5 and Word 2004 11.6.3 on G5 PowerMac?

Are there compatibility issues with Mac OSX Leopard V. 10.5 and Word 2004 11.6.3 when installed on a PowerMac G5? I understand the Leopard upgrade is okay on the later Intel Mac, but what about my G5 PowerPC Mac?

I do not use Microsoft Excel much but when i do use it it works fine on my G5. my powerbook has excel to but sometimes freezes on the powerbook. but not the G5 so give it a try you can always uninstall it if it does not work good

  • Help! bsod/freezesh/hangs p55-gd85. Compatibility issue?

Help needed please! Why can't i run my mems at 1600 or even at 1333 at stock or oc'd setting with this board? Compatibility issue with p55-gd85? Even with xmp turned on or off, all is at stock/default/auto settings at bios or even oc'd, my system hangs/freezes/or experiencing bluescreens if mems are running at 1333 or worse at 1600. Tested my mems with memtest and mems worked perfectly.. I tried my corsair mems to an intel manufactured board and it worked fine even at 1333. I tried 2 sticks of kingston ddr3 2gb 1333 in my gd85 and worked fine at 1333. Tried tweaking the recommended timings and voltages for the mems but still, nothing.. System is stable only if mems are running at 1066. It seems that my corsair mems are not compatible with my board... I've got the latest bios for the board(ver. 1.6). I've checked the memory module test reports for this board at msi website and i haven't seen my mems part number been tested.. Whats wrong with my system? Is there a possibility of MSI releasing a new version of bios in which my mems could work perfectly?
    my specs are:
msi p55-gd85 mobo (ver. 1.6 bios)
2x2gb corsair dominator mems (part number:CMD4GX3M2A1600C8)
    intel i5-760 procie
    nvidia gtx460 vc

This is a user to user forum. You will need to pose this question to MSI technical. >>How to contact MSI.<<
Your processor supports 1066 and 1333 memory according to Intel. It is possible that a Beta BIOS may have been released addressing memory incompatibility.

Did you use the same processor on the other board you tested on ?
Have you reseated your processor and checked the pad indentations and pins for any anomalies yet, i.e. bent pins ?
    Do a CMOS clear. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Test with one mem module only in the first slot nearest to the CPU. Manually set your memory in the BIOS to be 1333 at 1,5V with timings 9.9.9.24. Leave XMP disabled. If that works add the second module and retest.

  • Unresolved/Unresolvable Shockwave Flash Compatibility Issues - "shockwave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding..."

As an early adopter (and champion) of Firefox, it is with great sadness that after more than 10 years I find that I will need to un-install Firefox and move to another browser due to your ongoing compatibility issues with Shockwave Flash (a page freeze with an eventual pop-up message saying "shockwave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding..." on any and every page that has flash content). It has made my browsing experience horrible for more than half a month, and I've invested more than a week trying to address it. I started with all of the tweaky recommendations from your support site, Adobe's support site and many 3rd party sites; then a Firefox reset, and then eventually moved on to complete clean re-installations of Firefox and Adobe. Nothing fixed the issue. And it is an issue that doesn't occur on other browsers like IE, Opera and Chrome. Frankly it just shouldn't be this hard, and I believe you should be addressing it head on. I see from many online forums and your support site that I am far from alone. Do a quick Google search of "Firefox, shockwave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding" if you actually need to confirm this. I am using modern hardware (HP laptop with an i7 processor) and a major, supported OS (Windows7 64-bit). I hope for your sake you get it figured out. If you do, feel free to let me know... I might consider coming back, though frankly this may just be a sign that the Mozilla of old is no more. It makes me sad for both of us.

Strangely I tried all the suggested fixes for the problems of Script errors especially related to adobe. In addition when I clicked the firefox icon it took a long time to load. None of the suggested fixes in the forum has changed or fixed either of these 2 problems.
Yesterday I entered services.msc and changed all of my microsoft network services and services related to my adapor that said manual to automatic. I did this unrelated to firefox but because my network/wifi was connecting slowly when I booted up my computer. I then rebooted my computer.
To my surprise not only did my wifi connect faster but firefox now loads normally and all the script error messages related to adobe have disappeared. Firefox has worked perfectly now for 2 days.
For my individual situation my firefox problems were all related to network services being set to manual rather then automatic. How this effects firefox is unknown to me but must somehow be related to how firefox is accessing the network.

  • MSI Twin Frozr GeForce 770 Compatibility Issue?

My new system crashes intermittently during any game. I normally can play for about a half hour but the times very greatly. Also the way the game crashes varies. Sometimes the game will just shut game. Sometimes it will freeze. And Sometimes the computer will turn right off.
I think it might be a compatibility issue because when I put my other video card (A GeForce 550ti) into this computer it runs fine. Also when I run the GeForce 770 in my other computer it seems to run fine there too.
Do you guys think this is a hardware compatibility issue? Or do you have any troubleshooting suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Quicktime compatability issues???

I was wondering if there are any compatibility issues with quicktime and other programs. After my single 1.8 G5 running OS X 10.4.2with all the latest updates has been started up for about 2 hours, if I try to open anything up in quicktime, it freezes my computer. I was wondering if anybody knows if it is a software thing or something with my machine. I just finished wiping my hard drive and did a clean install but the problem still persists.
Any help will be much appreciated.

I would also be very interested in any information about this issue.

  • I am having trouble accessing webmail on TalkTalk (formerly Tiscali) using Firefox 5.0 and TalkTalk tell me there is a compatibility issue?

I had no problem with my previous version of Firefox and I can access my TalkTalk/Tiscali webmail using the latest IE browser. I am able to sign in but cannot access the mailbox contents. When I asked TalkTalk about the problem they have stated the following "If you are unable to access the mailbox using Firefox version 5, then I would like to inform you that there is compatibility issue with Firefox version 5 and Talk Talk webmail, due to which you are getting the above error. You can also try uninstalling the latest version of firefox and then reinstall it to the earlier version to resolve the case." May I assume that between you this difficulty will be resolved? I would prefer to use Firefox and do not wish to revert to IE.

Apparently TalkTalk mail will work with Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 ''if'' you set the browser to ''lie'' to TalkTalk mail by saying that you are still using version 3.6.
You can find the instructions for that in a post on the TalkTalk forums: [http://www.talktalk.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=185113#post2452787 Firefox 4 & TalkTalk webmail - Forums].
Note: when you open about:config the first time, it will display a warning message that you should be careful with the changes you make. That's definitely good to bear in mind.
    Does it work?

  • OS 10.4.11 and HP Officejet 4500 compatibility issue (scanning)

    Hi there,
    I am having a compatibility issue with a G4 (OS 10.4.11) and a HP Officejet 4500 (all-in-one).
(Sorry if this is a little long, but there are many specs and many attempts listed here).
Problem: I cannot scan from the computer (upon opening HP Scan, a Browser Device window pops up, asking to "Choose a scanning device" the model is not listed, and it continues to search for a device but cannot find it) or from the scanner control panel to the computer (I tried selecting Open in HP Scan and Open in Preview from the panel  –it then says on the panel "Starting scanning" but it doesn't scan even though the power button flashes (it then reverts to date and time), and the program it's opening in on the computer just seems to hang).
    Still, some functions work fine:
    - I can print from the computer to the printer (it recognizes the printer)
    - The HP fax test seemed to run fine (via computer)
    - As a stand-alone device (without the computer), I can photocopy in B&W and color –so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the scanner itself.
    Here are the specs:
    Computer specs:
    - PowerPC G4, 933 MHz, 512 MB SDRAM, running OS 10.4.11 (no Intel Core processor)
(the hard drive is partitioned into 3 –one runs 10.4.11 (the others Jaguar and OS9 –for compatiblity with other programs/peripherals) –21GB space remaining on 10.4.11 partition
    All-in-One specs:
    - HP Officejet 4500 G510g-m (USB, not wireless) all-in-one (printer/scanner/fax/copier) with USB 2.0 high-speed A-B printer cable (says in literature and on box it is  compatible with the G4 running OS 10.4.11, 256 MB RAM, 500 MB HD)
I contacted HP Tech Support. They suggested the following which were tried and failed to work:
    - shutting everything down and restarting (many times)
    - they checked to see if there was any update to the HP software –there didn't appear to be
    - plug power cord directly into wall outlet
    - switch to USB 2.0 cable (from 1.0)
    - unplugging and replugging the USB 2.0 cable
    - plug USB directly into the G4
    - turning off the firewall (under System Preferences - Sharing)
    - "scrub" or complete uninstall of all HP software (twice)
    - search and removal of files via system and user libraries pertaining to HP (and some Epson files)
    - verify and repair permissions (twice)
    - reinstall of HP software (twice, second time after scrub/uninstall and verify/repair permissions)
    - Software Update (via Apple menu) –only found Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2 (version 2.0) which they suggested might fix the problem –I downloaded and installed them, and then J2SE 5.0 Release 4 (version 4.0) which I downloaded but could not install (error message)
I then contacted Apple Tech Support and they said to go to support.apple.com and do a manual search for "HP 4500" –I did not find any drivers.
[I did previously have an Epson CX 4600 all-in-one which scanned fine with a USB 1.0 cable, even after the printheads had clogged shut –and I had had a HP Officejet J4580 which worked fine (which was for a family member) –this software would've been removed with the current HP installs and scrubs]
I am on the verge of returning this –it has also gotten several very bad reviews on the Apple site (for the wireless), however, I may have trouble finding a compatible device, as one running 10.4 is getting hard to find (unless I buy used, then no warranty and potentially other problems).
If anyone knows of any drivers or has any other information as to why this is not working, I would be most grateful (BTW, I am not much of a tech guy, so please bear with me).
    Thanks.

  • ILife 08 and iMovie 06 compatibility issues?

Sorry if any of this has already been covered in other threads...
Has anyone had a chance to thoroughly test the 6.04 version of iMovie (download version if you install iLife 08) and know what compatibility issues there are?
I.E. How well does iPhoto 08 play with iMovie 06, or iMovie 06 with iDVD 08. Are the third party plugins problematic with v6.04?
From what I saw at the Apple store, iPhoto08 and iDVD08 would be the only apps that I would really want since iMovie08 seems to be a step backwards and iWeb is still lacking in everything that I wanted improved. But I don't want to waste the money to discover all sorts of "gotchas" with trying to get iMovie06 to play nice with the rest of iLife08...
Also, has anyone done an install excluding iMovie08 entirely? Do you still need to download 6.04 if installed this way? Are there any pitfalls?
This is like Deja vu or something...When iLife06 first came out, I installed everything but iMovie and stuck with iMovie05 for a long time cause of all the bugs and how long it took to get the third party plugins working...

Of all the things for people to moan about with iMovie '08, the real unfortunate thing is it's inability to import effects, etc. (essentially your completed movie) from iMovie HD. One could somewhat forgive Apple for this debacle, if only it played nice with iMovie HD. Then it could be everything it's supporters say it is, i.e. "a different app," "a simple app for simpletons in a hurry" (although I find it's lack of tools and compatibility issues more difficult to manage).
...and a lot of us feel like this is the thing we're going to be stuck with going forward.
I keep thinking that something else is going to happen, because this can't be right. I think this diver/video engineer who came up with this concept is suffering from the bends.
Apple doesn't need the money, (as in making us buy Final Cut Pro for decent video editing), trust me, so I don't understand why it would take the PR hit.
iMovie '08 spoofs are already on YouTube, etc.
