Compiler error in VS2013 and VS2015?

In the following code the expression marked evaluates differently if compiled with VS6SP6 and with VS2013SP4/VS2015preview.
I suspect the code generated by VS2013/VS2015 is wrong. It creates a temporary object of *pa instead of using *pa (as it is done by VS6).
Or is it correct in C++, that for the given expression the Compiler creates a temporary object?
#include "stdio.h"
class A
public:
A() { printf("constructor A: %4X\n", this); }
A(A& a) { printf("constructor A(copy): %4X => %4X\n", &a, this); }
~A() { printf("destructor A: %4X\n", this); }
int aA;
A* pa;
A* pb;
void pp(A& a)
if (&a == pa)
printf("Ok, got expected object\n");
else
printf("not Ok, got %4X, expected %4X\n", &a, pa);
int main(int argc, char* argv[])
int i = 1;
pa = new A();
pb = new A();
pp((i == 0) ? *pb : *pa);
pp((i == 0) ? A() : *pa); //evaluates differently in VS6 and VS2015
delete pb;
delete pa;
return 0;
output, if compiled with VS6SP6:
constructor A: 3A2F80
constructor A: 3A06E0
Ok, got expected object
Ok, got expected object
destructor A: 3A06E0
destructor A: 3A2F80
output, if compiled with VS2015 preview
constructor A: 13B8FC8
constructor A: 13B4398
Ok, got expected object
constructor A(copy): 13B8FC8 => 112F8E4
not Ok, got 112F8E4, expected 13B8FC8
destructor A: 112F8E4
destructor A: 13B4398
destructor A: 13B8FC8

VS6 is wrong, even by the text of the C++98 standard (the version of the standard contemporary with it):
5.16/5 Otherwise [when the second and third operand are not both lvalues - IT], the result is an rvalue...
5.16/6 Lvalue-to-rvalue (4.1) ... standard conversions are performed on the second and third operands...
12.2/1 Temporaries of class type are created in various contexts: ... a conversion that creates an rvalue (4.1, 5.2.9, 5.2.11, 5.4) ...
 The C++11 standard is much more explicit:
5.16/6 ...The second and third operands have the same type; the result is of that type. If the operands have class type, the result is a prvalue temporary of the result type, which is copy-initialized from either the second operand or the third operand depending
on the value of the first operand.
For further discussion, see
http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/cwg_defects.html#446
(this is how the wording in C++11 came about).

    Hi,
    Unfortunately Microsoft is not particularly helpful, forgiving, or backward compatible when it comes to Visual Studio releases.  Oracle has not yet released a version of Tuxedo that is compatible with VS2013.  If VS2013 is something you absolutely need, then I suggest submitting a support request through My Oracle Support asking for a Tuxedo 12.1.1 kit that supports VS2013.  You might also submit a request to Microsoft and ask them to stop breaking compatibility between releases!  :-)
    Regarding the specific error above, it looks as though you should probably try a reinterpret_cast, although it has been a long time since I played with CORBA.

  • The mxmlc compiler displays the compilation errors in Japanese - and I want them in English!

    Working in a Japanese company I have to use a machine with
    Windows XP in Japanese. The thing is that I can barely read this
    language so it's really depressing when most Java apps (and Flex,
    through Eclipse, is one of them) outsmart themselves and default to
    displaying their UI strings/messages in Japanese
    without giving the user the ability to select another
    language.
    When compiling Flex apps using Flex Builder 2, the mxmlc
    compiler is internally called by the IDE to perform the compilation
    and then its output is displayed in the Problems View.
    Well, the English version of mxmlc, has all its messages
    (compilation warnings, errors etc) translated into Japanese (as far
    as I can tell, they are hardwired into the exe). So although I'm
    using the English version of the FB2,
    with -locale en_US specified as an argument for the
    compiler, all the compilation erros are reported in Japanese!
    Even after changes in "flex-config.xml" and "jvm.config" as
    you can see below, the compilation errors are still in Japanese. I
    started to doubt that there's a solution to this problem but I
    really hope there is one.
    TIA,
    .x.
    Here are the relevant portions of my config files and an
    example of mxmlc's output (Japanese might not display correctly):
    -- C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\Flex SDK
    2\frameworks\flex-config.xml --

    inlineblue you are right about the "-locale" switch. I've
    just found this page on live docs:
    http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flex/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=L iveDocs_Parts&file=00001500.html
    with all the compiler options
    I thought that "-metadata.language <code>" (alias
    "-language") sets the language, but it seems that it's only for
    metadata.
    So -locale is out. Thanks for clearing this for me. There's
    one more path left...
    As I wrote in my first message, besides the "-locale en_US"
    compiler option, I am also setting the "user.language" flag in
    jvm.config to "en":
    -- C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\Flex SDK
    2\bin\jvm.config --
    # Arguments to VM
    java.args=-Xmx384m -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false
    -Duser.language=en
    According to the docs:
    http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flex/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=L iveDocs_Parts&file=00001462.html
    this is the standard (only?) way to pass arguments to the JVM. And
    AFAIK "-Duser.language=en" is supposed to set the user language to
    English. But it does not happen... I have to investigate this
    more...

  • Interesting test for report compilation error

    I just tried to figure the compilation error I had and I ran
    into this :
    I delete all fields on my report so the report was empty.
    Then I added the backgroud color to the Report header session and
    ran the report, it worked fine. Then I add the Label on top of
    report header session then I got this error:
    Report compilation error. Error at (32, 20: null
    Is there a bug on the report or just my problem?
    Help!!

    Similar issue here. It happens with just a few reports. I can compile them on reports builder, but not using rwconverter.sh I am using 11.1.2.
    Any clues so far?

    Hi Selvi P,
    Thanks for posting here.
    According to your description, it is indeed a known issue which has already been raised to
    connect. The error message is completely same with your issue. So I think you can confirm from that connect website if the VS2013 update 2 fix the problem.
    And also you can have a try to use VS2013 ultimate version to check if the issue is fixed. Because from this similar issue from connect:https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/800094/,
    the resolution is that will be fixed in VS2013 RTM. If you still have this kind of issue in VS2013 ultimate, I suggest you raising your issue to connect. Because this kind of issue needs the product team to help.
    Thanks.

  • Compiled Error in Xcode for iphone game and other questions

    Dear all,
    Hi, I am a newbie of xcode and objective-c and I have a few questions regarding to the code sample of a game attached below. It is written in objective C, Xcode for iphone4 simulator. It is part of the code of 'ball bounce against brick" game. Instead of creating the image by IB, the code supposes to create (programmatically) 5 X 4 bricks using 4 different kinds of bricks pictures (bricktype1.png...). I have the bricks defined in .h file properly and method written in .m.
    My questions are for the following code:
    - (void)initializeBricks
    brickTypes[0] = @"bricktype1.png";
    brickTypes[1] = @"bricktype2.png";
    brickTypes[2] = @"bricktype3.png";
    brickTypes[3] = @"bricktype4.png";
    int count = 0;`
    for (int y = 0; y < BRICKS_HEIGHT; y++)
    for (int x = 0; x < BRICKS_WIDTH; x++)
    - Line1 UIImage *image = [ImageCache loadImage:brickTypes[count++ % 4]];
    - Line2 bricks[x][y] = [[[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image] autorelease];
    - Line3 CGRect newFrame = bricks[x][y].frame;
    - Line4 newFrame.origin = CGPointMake(x * 64, (y * 40) + 50);
    - Line5 bricks[x][y].frame = newFrame;
    - Line6 [self.view addSubview:bricks[x][y]]
    1) When it is compiled, error "ImageCache undeclared" in Line 1. But I have already added the png to the project. What is the problem and how to fix it? (If possible, please suggest code and explain what it does and where to put it.)
    2) How does the following in Line 1 work? Does it assign the element (name of .png) of brickType to image?
    brickTypes[count ++ % 4]
    For instance, returns one of the file name bricktype1.png to the image object? If true, what is the max value of "count", ends at 5? (as X increments 5 times for each Y). But then "count" will exceed the max 'index value' of brickTypes which is 3!
    3) In Line2, does the image object which is being allocated has a name and linked with the .png already at this line *before* it is assigned to brick[x][y]?
    4) What do Line3 and Line5 do? Why newFrame on left in line3 but appears on right in Line5?
    5) What does Line 4 do?
    Thanks
    North

    Hi North -
    macbie wrote:
    1) When it is compiled, error "ImageCache undeclared" in Line 1. ...
    UIImage *image = [ImageCache loadImage:brickTypes[count++ % 4]]; // Line 1
    The compiler is telling you it doesn't know what ImageCache refers to. Is ImageCache the name of a custom class? In that case you may have omitted #import "ImageCache.h". Else if ImageCache refers to an instance of some class, where is that declaration made? I can't tell you how to code the missing piece(s) because I can't guess the answers to these questions.
    Btw, if the png file images were already the correct size, it looks like you could substitute this for Line 1:
    UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:brickTypes[count++ % 4]]; // Line 1
    2) How does the following in Line 1 work? Does it assign the element (name of .png) of brickType to image?
    brickTypes[count ++ % 4]
    Though you don't show the declaration of brickTypes, it appears to be a "C" array of NSString object pointers. Thus brickTypes[0] is the first string, and brickTypes[3] is the last string.
    The expression (count++ % 4) does two things. Firstly, the trailing ++ operator means the variable 'count' will be incremented as soon as the current expression is evaluated. Thus 'count' is zero (its initial value) the first time through the inner loop, its value is one the second time, and two the third time. The following two code blocks do exactly the same thing::
    int index = 0;
    NSString *filename = brickTypes[index++];
    int index = 0;
    NSString *filename = brickTypes[index];
    index = index + 1;
    The percent sign is the "modulus operator" so x%4 means "x modulo 4", which evaluates to the remainder after x is divided by 4. If x starts at 0, and is incremented once everytime through a loop, we'll get the following sequence of values for x%4: 0, 1, 2, 3, 0, 1, 2, 3, 0, 1, ...
    So repeated evaluation of (brickTypes[count++ % 4]) produces the sequence: @"bricktype1.png", @"bricktype2.png", @"bricktype3.png", @"bricktype4.png", @"bricktype1.png", @"bricktype2.png", @"bricktype3.png", @"bricktype4.png", @"bricktype1.png", @"bricktype2.png", ...
    3) In Line2, does the image object which is being allocated has a name and linked with the .png already at this line *before* it is assigned to brick[x][y]?
    Line 2 allocs an object of type UIImageView and specifies the data at 'image' as the picture to be displayed by the new object. Since we immediately assign the address of the new UIImageView object to an element of the 'bricks' array, that address isn't stored in any named variable.
    The new UIImageView object is not associated with the name of the png file from which its picture originated. In fact the UIImage object which inited the UIImageView object is also not associated with that png filename. In other words, once a UIImage object is initialized from the contents of an image file, it's not possible to obtain the name of that file from the UIImage object. Note when you add a png media object to a UIImageView object in IB, the filename of the png resource will be retained and used to identify the image view object. But AFAIK, unless you explicitly save it somewhere in your code, that filename will not be available at run time.
    4) What do Line3 and Line5 do? Why newFrame on left in line3 but appears on right in Line5?
    5) What does Line 4 do?
    In Line 2 we've set the current element of 'bricks' to the address of a new UIImageView object which will display one of the 4 brick types. By default, the frame of a UIImageView object is set to the size of the image which initialized it. So after Line 2, we know that frame.size for the current array element is correct (assuming the image size of the original png file was what we want to display, or assuming that the purpose of [ImageCache loadImage:...] is to adjust the png size).
    Then in Line 3, we set the rectangle named newFrame to the frame of the current array element, i.e. to the frame of the UIImageView object whose address is stored in the current array element. So now we have a rectangle whose size (width, height) is correct for the image to be displayed. But where will this rectangle be placed on the superview? The placement of this rectangle is determined by its origin.
    Line 4 computes the origin we want. Now we have a rectangle with both the correct size and the correct origin.
    Line 5 sets the frame of the new UIImageView object to the rectangle we constructed in Lines 3 and 4. When that object is then added to the superview in Line 6, it will display an image of the correct size at the correct position.

  • C# compiling error: 'System.Array' does not contain a definition for 'Select' and no extension method 'Select' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Array' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

    Hello experts,
    I'm totally new to C#. I'm trying to modify existing code to automatically rename a file if exists. I found a solution online as follows:
    string[] allFiles = Directory.GetFiles(folderPath).Select(filename => Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(filename)).ToArray();
            string tempFileName = fileName;
            int count = 1;
            while (allFiles.Contains(tempFileName ))
                tempFileName = String.Format("{0} ({1})", fileName, count++);
            output = Path.Combine(folderPath, tempFileName );
            string fullPath=output + ".xml";
    However, it gives the following compilation errors
    for the Select and Contain methods respectively.:
    'System.Array' does not contain a definition for 'Select' and no extension method 'Select' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Array' could be found

    'System.Array' does not contain a definition for 'Contains' and no extension method 'Contains' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Array' could be

    I googled on these errors, and people suggested to add using System.Linq;
    I did, but the errors persist.
    Any help and information is greatly appreciated.
    P. S. Here are the using clauses I have:

    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Linq;

    Besides your issue with System.Core, you also have a problem with the logic of our code, particularly your variables. It is confusing what your variables represent. You have an infinite loop, so the last section of code is never reached. Take a look
    using System;

    I searched for this error on Google and found the following blog:
    Is there a tool to troubleshoot ORA-00600 and ORA-07445 errors?
    February 27th, 2006 By Fahd Mirza
    ORA-00600 and ORA-07445 errors are the most esoteric errors in Oracle.
    There is a tool called “ORA-600/ORA-7445 Troubleshooter” available at Metalink. It asks for the first argument of ORA-600 error with an optional database version number.
    For example, to see the description of the error:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [723], [25908], [25908], [memory leak]
    You enter 723 in the “ORA-600 First Argument” field. The first argument is a pointer to where in the code the error was caught and thus is the key information in identifying the problem.
    You can also embed (copy/paste) the “Call Stack Trace” there, and, when you click on the “Search Call Stack” button an advanced MetaLink search is performed to find documents containing relevant sections from the call stack.
    Call Stack extracts from the following files are supported:
    * Generic foreground and background server trace files located in background_dump_dest and user_dump_dest
    * OpenVMS NETV2 and BEQ log files located in ORA_ROOT:[NETWORK.LOG]
    * WINDOWS CORE.LOG files
    * GDB (debugger) backtrace call stacks (best endeavors)
    Of course you will need a login to Oracle's Metalink site.

  • How do I add an included jsp to my project and not get a compile error?

    Hi,
    I have a project with some included jsp's however if I add them to the project, when I build I get a compile error as the jsp uses variables from the calling jsp.
    Any ideas on how to get round this.
    Thanks
    DM

    There are two main ways that I deal with this problem (yeah, it sucks, but it sort of makes sense that it happens...) (I presume you're talking static include here...)
    #1 - name the included file with an extension that JDev will not try to compile (.jspf - for JSP Fragment - is common) Then it will be compiled in with the including page, but won't gag the project compilation. Advantage - it works, and you find out at compile time if you hosed up the variable reference. Disadvantage: JDev tries really, really, really hard to keep you from naming a JSP file with an extension of .jspf I normally create the .jsp file in JDev, remove it from the project, rename the file outside of JDeveloper, then add it back to the project - pain in the butt, but it works (and you probably aren't building scads of these included files...)
    #2 - add the variable to be referenced to the pageContext implicit object as an attribute in your including page (ex, <% pageContext.setAttribute("myVar", myVar); %>), then reference that attribute in your included JSP (ex, <%= pageContext.getAttribute("myVar") %>) . It will compile fine (as the compiler has no way of knowing if the pageContext attribute actually exists, it just sees that the syntax is good and motors along merrily. Advantage: don't have to have differently named JSP files (which isn't actually a big deal). Disadvantage: You hvae to add the variable to the pageContext (and you have to always add Object derivatives, as primitives won't go into a hash) and you don't find out if you screwed the variable up until runtime (when it tries the getAttribute, which could return null if you didn't properly set it to start with) vs at compile-time w/ the direct reference.
    HTH!

  • LV 2011 (and LV 2012) Compiler Error. Invalid size in _InstSize: 21

    I created a subvi in LV8.5 to handle user interface events outside a main vi. The subvi gets the control references which are registered for events, by a queue all actions are sent to a consumer case, nothing fancy. Everything works fine in LV8.5, but now I took all over to LV2011SP1 on a Windows 7 64bit and I get always the same error:
    "Compiler error. Report this problem to National Instruments Tech Support. Invalid size in _InstSize 21"
    that pops up 3 times. I tried to open the same code also in LV2012, same error... When trying to isolate the problem, I found out that by disabling code in the 3 biggest consumer cases I can get rid of the warning, but then I can't reduce the problem to one single element...
    Any ideas?

    Try to inline the subvi's.
    Try making them reentrant.
    Mass compile.
    Press ctrl-shift-arrow to force recompile of the entire vi call hierarchy.
    Try separating the source from the binary.

  • Installing Lightspark and/or Gnash? [compile errors]

    The Flash player in Firefox (and, more importantly xulrunner generally and thus in Conkeror) is unusable. I've even tried the fresh player plugin to use Google Pepper Flash in Firefox, and it's the same - it stutters/jitters. (Plays fine in Chrom{e|ium}).
    I was trying to install Lightspark and/or Gnash, but no matter which package I try from AUR, there's always a compile error.  Has anyone successfully got either/both of these installed?

    I've installed Lightspark by downgrading llvm and Gnash by building from source with a workaround.
    My workaround doesn't seem to be working for other people, though, so I won't detail it here until I figure out what's different.

  • JSP Compile Error when using dynamic ID in logic:iterate and bean:size

    Hello,
    I try to create a dynamic table with logic:iterate and bean:size tag. Dynamic means the attributes are written by scriptlet. Eg.:
    <logic:iterate id="customerBean" name="<%= formName %>"  property="<%= propertyName%>" length="<%= sRowSize%>">When I replace the id Attribute with propertyName I get compile errors, such as
    the compiler doesn't know the value at runtime:
    Unable to compile class for JSP An error occurred at line: 179 in the jsp file: /pages/formContent.jsp Generated servlet error: _newCustomer.java:1046: Missing term. java.lang.Object <%= propertyName %> = null; ^
    Whats wrong ?
    Thanks for your help

    Solution: don't use a runtime expression for the id attribute.
    The id attribute is used to declare
    - an attribute in scope
    - a scriptlet variable on the page
    These are only available for the duration of the <logic:iterate> tag
    The "id" is only used in your programming. You don't need to make it dynamic.

  • Weblogic 9 and JSP compiler errors

    Hello everyone,
              I am having problems with my Jsps in my EAR file deployed on WL 9.0.
              I have a Jsp called upms.jsp that contains the following code snippets:
              After my import statements, I have some code that creates a resource bundle that accesses a properties file:
               <%!
                   ResourceBundle bundle = null;
                   public void jspInit() {
                   bundle = ResourceBundle.getBundle("conf.properties");
              %>
              I get an error from the above code:
              upms.jsp:3:11: 'try' statement has neither 'catch' nor 'finally' clause
                        import="java.util.ResourceBundle"
              ^----------------------^
              I am totally clueless as to what that error means.
              Next I declare a bean I use in the jsp:
                   <jsp:useBean
                        id="userPrefsManagerBean"
              class="controllers.beans.UserPreferencesManagerBean"
                   scope="session">
                   </jsp:useBean>
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              I get these errors from the above portion:
              upms.jsp:27:3: The qualifier of this name is a package, which cannot contain fields.
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              ^-------------^
              upms.jsp:27:3: The qualifier of this name is a package, which cannot contain fields.
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              ^-------------^
              upms.jsp:27:3: Expression expected (found '.' instead)
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              ^-------------^
              upms.jsp:27:3: Syntax error: expected ) (found 'class' instead)
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              ^-------------^
              upms.jsp:27:3: Syntax error: expected <identifier> (found ')' instead)
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              ^-------------^
              Has anyone encountered these before?
              This jsp worked perfectly well when I deployed my EAR file on JBoss...no such luck using Weblogic.
              Is there something I am missing here? I appreciate any help.
              Cheers, :-)
              M.

    Mildred,
              Two suggestions:
              1) use option weblogic.jspc's "-keepgenerated", you can keep the generated
              servlet's source code.
              Please paste it here.
              2) Can you create a simple reproducer(e.g. a war), and put it here, so that
              we can debug it and give more clues.
              To reproduce your issue, I write a simple a simple
              UserPreferencesManagerBean classs below :
              package controllers.beans;
              public class UserPreferencesManagerBean {
              private int p1;
              public void setP1(int p)
              p1 = p;
              public int getP1()
              return p1;
              But it works(oh, I run it under 910MP1).
              We cannot tell too much without your further information
              Thanks
              Leon

              I don't know what to change in my JSP because the WL JSP compiler errors are
