Hi! Can someone tell me the difference between custom and component controllers? and any guidelines as when to use what?

Majority Component/Coustom controllers resembles same. Still I found following differences
There will be only one default Component controller (called global) in a particular project but there can be any number of coustom controllers (we can create depending upon the requirement).
Component controller has the follwing methods apart from wdDoInit(), wdDoExit()

Genarally all the coustom code is coded in coustom controller for example if you want to add additional methods of your own, in case if you want to validate webdynpro UI elements input this validation code is coded in coustom controllers

There seems to be a little confusion here. Think of it this way:
A basic UIComponent by itself is not visible; you can add something you can see to it to make a visual custom component. For example, a ComboBox component is a UIComponent with a ComboBox added to it.
The UIComponent is the lightest weight component available from which you can create other components. I use it as the base for custom components that the user cannot see, like a data manager.

hi,
Not sure why your custom event is not working, I tend not to worry about 'custom' events unless I need to transfer a lot of information.
Here is a way to 'simplify' event management.
I just declare a new event in the meta data and then send it to notify that a change has been made. Although the parent can find the index value easily enough I also use two-way bind the navigators index so that it is directly available for the application to manipulate/read .

Hi Ravi.
The component controller is visbile to all views in a component. So all context nodes and methods you create here can be accessed from all views in the component. This way you can share data between the views by mapping context nodes or thru method calls. You can also mark methods and nodes as interface so that they are acessable from other components that define component usages to this cmponent.
Custom controller is quiet similar to the component controller. You can define it if you want to group some views with a custom controller for a certain functionality.
If you want to access a custom controller in a view you have to define the usage first on the properties tab of the view.
A view controller is only visible in the view itself. So all methods or context nodes you define here are only accesable by the current view.
The lead selection is in most cases the current selected element in a context node. The lead selection is used by many UI elements to determine which element has to be shown (e.g drop down).
If you have a table with single selection the current selected table row is the lead selection element of the bound context node.
SO you can get the lead selection element easily in any mthod by calling context_node->get_element( ).

A Custom Component and the JSP source that get's generated

I'm writing a Custom Component library and I'm at a point where I need to understand how the JSP source that gets generate when my component is dragged from the palete is created and how it relates to the properties I define in the Metadata files.
In particular I have a component that is an extension of the DataTable component and I'd like to control what get's dropped onto the page when the user drags over my component.

How to get an event both in custom component and into its instance

I have a custom component that extends a Jtree
I want to know when a node is clicked both , into my component and after into the component sited into Jpanel
now, I can only detect it into the component, but I dont know how to detect it at the component I have in my Jpanel
I have 'addTreeSelectionListener' in both places ...

Why are you extending JTree? I'd bet you shouldn't be.Why not ? ....
Why SUN develop the 'extends' functionality ? You should use extends if you're changing the behavior of an existing class. An example of this is extending JPanel and overriding the paintComponent() method to do some custom painting.
You should not use extends if you just need an instance of an existing class. An example of this is extending JFrame instead of simply creating a JFrame instance.
Without seeing your code, I can't be sure you're misusing extends. But many people do.
Here's an example.
Bad:

Why we need Custom controllers in Model Applications

In Adaptive RFC Model Application we can use both the controllers for creating contex structure
wat is the main aim for using custom controller
it has any special feature in custom conrollers
i read both the controllers have same functionality n flexibility
any body differentiate these two controllers
n which one is efficient for connecting Model applications

Hi Narayana,
There are many situations when you need custom controllers over component controller.
Suppose you have one DC and you want to make some part of this DC as Public which may include Local context nodes, elements, methods or model context with specified methods to process some functionality. By Interfacing a custom controller with all the exportable methods and context you reach to a certain level of security.
In this case you are distributing your module in multiple custom controllers which ultimately reduces complexity of programming, code and obviously execution time.
This is up to the developer, if he/she wants to create custom controllers or not, but yes in certain situations you should go for custom controllers. It is always good to have multiple custom controllers when you are using single DC for different modules.

HR LDB PNP and customer infotypes in 640

Hello,
I encountered the following problem during an upgrade from 4.6C to SAP ERP Central Component 5.0. When using logical database PNP and customer infotypes the syntax check produces the following syntax error:
- INCLUDE report "%_HR9731" not found
I have added an example program below. Prerequisite for this program is that the cutomer infotype 9731 exists in the system.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? And if so, is there a solution? I can program some workarounds, but I prefer a solution, which does not involve changing my code.

Component Controller and Custom Controller are more or less the same. Both are related to a particular component in the webdynpro application you create.
Component Controller:-

When we create a change request via SOLMAN_WORK_CENTER, we are supposed to provide values for
1) IBase
2) Component
3) Product ID
Ibase can be defined as the way SAP differentiates in a multiple system (APO, CRM, ECC) environment, the corresponding environment.
The values corresponding to IBase can be obtained via IB51,52 and 53 tcodes.
Can the value for IBase obtained via SMSY t code also?
What does component and Product ID signify?
Where can we get values for Component and Product ID?
Is Product ID the same as value we get from menu Option System->Status->Installation Number
Is it necessary to provide all 3 values (i.e. IBase, Component , Product ID) while creating change request?
If Not, how will SolMan identify which system the change should point to?

Product ID is not mandatory. I actually hide it in the CRMD_ORDER screen.

Product ID - in a customizing table, I've seen it once but can't remember where honestly. As stated, I don't bother with the field

The iBase and component are mandatory, odd thing is if you enter the component without entering 1 in the iBase, SolMan will fill the 1 in for you.

By the logical components assigned to your maintenance project. You can actually have transports for more than one production assigned to your change document. For instance you could have a BI and ECC transport assigned to the sane change document. Your tak list will have the dev, testing and production systems for each logical component assigned.
Or only value for Ibase is enough?
I was having this discussion with someone the other day. Since the logical components assigned to the mianteance project really determines what systems you can create transports for, what is the value of the component field? Best I could determine was when you use the Logon on to System action, it points to the one listed in the component field only. other than that, I'm not sure.

You can get vendor/costumer number and their names in FBL3N when you get bank ledger's line item.
You must use BTE functions.
I don't your techinal skills about SAP but if you don't know ABAP or ABAP dictionary details, you can get help your ABAPer.
I will explain step by step.
First of all, if you don't use BTE before, You must create a product on FIBF.
Call FIBF transaction -> Settings -> Products -> ...of a customer
Create a new line,
Product : ZFI
Text : BTE Products for FI Exit
Product active : tick check fro activation.
Then you must call SE11 for structure RFPOS.
You must use append structure function for this structure and you can define ZFI_RFPOS append structure.
Define 4 fields.
Component : KUNNR - Component type : KUNNR
Component : NAMED - Component type : NAME1
Component : LIFNR - Component type : LINFR
Component : NAMEK - Component type : NAME1
Then save and active your RFPOS structure.
After that, you must do same step for structure RFPOSX.
Then go to SE37 and copy from SAMPLE_INTERFACE_00001650 to ZFI_INTERFACE_00001650 FM.
After copy action, you must uncomment this line on ZFI_INTERFACE_00001650 FM's source code. It's very very important;
E_POSTAB = I_POSTAB.
Then you should add some ABAP code for getting customer & vendor details.
I give you some examples, you can use it. (next message on this thread, please check)
Then save and active FM.
Call FIBF transaction again.
FIBF -> Settings -> Process Modules -> ...of a customer
Define a new line.
Process : 00001650
Function Module : ZFI_INTERFACE_00001650
Product : ZFI
and this customizing.
Then you go to SE38 transaction.
start report RFPOSXEXTEND. After starting, a pop-up appears, you must click YES.
After those operations, you can see customer/vendor code and their names on FBL3N.

How to use or call component in custom script expression

i want to use component in custom script expression .(custom script expression is located at :
when yow will click on one of the steps in criteria workflow
1)there is a tag named as event on clicking the event tag,there are two buttons named edit and clear on clicking edit.there is a screen having custom as a tag,on clicking that tag there is written custom script expression, here i hav to write a code to include a component).

you can define code in a component (a service or an IDOC Include) that you can then call from the workflow "custom" tab.
So if your component has an include like this:
<@dynamichtml myInclude@>
<$do Some Stuff$>
<@end@>
Then in your workflow step event "custom" tab you can write:
<$include myInclude$>
The workflow event will then execute the <$do Some Stuff$> line.
With a service, you would define the service in your component then call <$executeService("MYService")$> in the step event custom code.
You cannot define includes or services in the custom script tab for workflow.

Create one static attribute in your custom class with type ref to of your component and populate this attribute in webdynpro enhancement and then use this reference in your custom class.
