Compression via JDBC connection

Hi,
I am looking for alternatives or option using compression via JDBC thin or OCI connection. I am using JDK 1.6X on Sun platform and my Oracle Database version is 11.1.2.0. Is there any way to compress my data stream while connecting to JDBC connection ? I did tried knowledge base but didn't find a concrete answer from there?

Mechanisms like that are always a trade off one which doesn't necessarily work over time.
The problem is that one is trading CPU time for network bandwidth. And relation between those can vary greatly in a short amount of time.
In terms of absolute performance the best way is to create a design that minimizes volume and size.

  • Connecting to IDMS database via JDBC

    Has anyone successfully set up JDBC connectivity to generate reports using data in an IDMS mainframe database containing multiple schemas, where several schemas may contain tables with the same name?
    We have no issues when using ODBC to connect to the various schemas in this IDMS databases, but we need to convert the connectivity for existing reports to JDBC.
    When I open the JDBC connection, I see the expected hierarchy of schemas and tables in the Database Expert window.  If I try to select a table I get the following error message if a table of that same name exists in other schemas:
    Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    Details:  SQL exception: [SQL State:]  42000  [Error message:]  DB002046 T11094 C-4M347: Duplicate table ids for ASISCHEM.SR-ACT and CORPCHEM.SR-ACT in area CORPDB.ACTIVITY-AREA [Database Vendor Code: -4]
    So although we can connect to the database via JDBC, we can't use the connectivity because Crystal  does not appear to correctly resolve that I'm selecting the table from within a specific schema.
    Can anyone advise on how to make sure the table name selection is qualified by the correct schema name?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    Try running the query outside of CR to verify the JDBC driver is passing the fully qualified name also.
    Then look in the Designer and Show SQL to verify it's there as well as Set Table Location. You may be able to fully qualify it in that UI.
    Thank you

  • Error trying to connect via jdbc

    I'm trying to connect via jdbc driver from a java application to a remote db. The code is quite simple
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection
    ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@dbhost:orcl", "user", "password");
    in my CLASSPATH I have the ojdbc14.jar file

    Please be aware of the following facts:
    1) sqlplus from the same machine has no problem connecting to the db
    2) there is no firewall or router between the client and the server
    3) As host name I've tried the fqdn (resolved by the DNS), a name I've set up in /etc/hosts, the mere IP address
    4) Checking with tcpdump, I've verified that NO network packet actually leaves the client, so the problem completely lies there.
    Has anyone some good idea why this happens?

    Make sure you are providing correct hostname and listener port number

  • 10G Forms connect to MS Access via JDBC

    A new project requires a 10G Form to connect to MS Access database. I understand 10G no longer connects to Access using ODBC. Will JDBC work? If JDBC can be used does anyone have a "How To" document or examples on how to connect orms 10G to MS Access via JDBC
    Thanks
    Ralph

    I dont think it will work. In 10g forms is going to implement transparent gateways.
    Is there a possibility of getting the data from MS access directly to Oracle database and then connect to Oracle DB from forms ?

  • JDBC-Connection in SQL-Developer via Connection-Manager gives ORA-12529

    Hi !
    This is a followup of this Thread: https://community.oracle.com/thread/3568462
    I have the same problem but I have ConnectionManager 11g (11.2.0.1.0) , which doesn't know the setting for AUTHENTICATION_LEVEL=0
    And I have to use JDBC, so the OCI/Thick-driver is no option for me.
    The same error is raised when I use JDBC with Eclipse,...
    SQL-Plus over the Connection-Manager works without any problems.
    The ruleset of my cman.ora is:
    (rule_list=
        (rule=
           (src=*)(dst=*)(srv=*)(act=accept)
           (action_list=(aut=off)(moct=0)(mct=0)(mit=0)(conn_stats=on))
    The error is:
    Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12529, TNS:connect request rejected based on current filtering rules
    Anyone got jdbc-connections over ConnectionManager 11g+ running?
    Charly

    Using Windows XP/Vista...
    After testing in our environment, it appears that SQL Developer 1.5.1 (5440) does in fact ignore the TNS_ADMIN environment variable and ONLY looks in the Oracle Home directory (network/admin). We define a central network location for our tnsnames file and have the tns_admin setup to point there instead of locally for our users.
    When selecting to add a new connection (in 1.5.1, it works in previously releases... meaning 1.2.something) and selecting TNS, the drop-down remains empty. However, if I exit SQL Developer and then copy the tnsnames file to the local network/admin directory I can then re-launch SQL Developer and the drop-down is populated. Exiting SQL Developer again, deleting the local copy of tnsnames, and then launching SQL Developer yet again results in the drop-down being empty.
    All other Oracle-related applications function as expected (as they have for years) using the TNS_ADMIN environment variable.
    Any suggestions/ideas?

  • Lost index stats in Ora 8.1.6 Tables when selecting via jdbc

    Hi,
    i'm using JBuilder8 and Kylix2 on a Linux machine with Oracle oci drivers of client 8.1.7.
    The connect through JB8 jdbc via DBPilot is succesful and shows the tables of the db.
    After executing a select on any table the index stats of this table are lost.
    Kylix works fine without this failure.
    Thanks for any comments to this problem
    Jens

    Well, it's not the PL/SQL code that is causing a problem. Everything worked fine for many months. Then one day (without any changes in the environment or code) the update of a table from a java application (via JDBC) fails. The same update done directly on the DB with SQL Plus still succeeds!
    This led us to think that something is wrong with the JDBC connection (which was up for several months). Maybe a memory corruption?
    Anyone that experienced similar problems with JDBC?

  • Can not deploy a report using JDBC connection on CR2008 Server

    Hi Group,
    I have a report created with JDBC connection. When I tried to add it to CR2008 server, it gives an error - "An unexpected error has occurred ". Basically I want to add a report to a public folder via CMC. I am using adminstrator account.
    Then I thought I need to add JDBC driver into CR2008 server. so I put oracle jdbc jar into CR2008 server classpath and add JDBC connection info into CRConfig.xml. but I still got the same error.
    I also tried:
    - Change the report to use native Oracle driver rather than JDBC. The deployment succeeded (but this is not what I want)
    - Add a data source connection via Business View Manager, but no luck.
    I know how to use/change jdbc connection with programtic way, but I just want to know if I want to use built-in components in CR2008 server without any coding the reports can be deployed and managed.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dennis

    Hello Will,
    Crystal Reports supports connections to JDBC/JNDI out of the box, and have done so for a while, whether stand-alone or published to Enterprise.
    To specify where the server would search for the JDBC driver jar files, you'd change the classpath tag found in the CRConfig.xml file found on the machine where the Crystal Reports Page or Job Server is running.
    For early Crystal Enterprise 10 and before, it used Java Native Interface (JNI) to start the Java process to retrieve the data from the JDBC connection.
    For later Crystal Enterprise 10 and later, it starts off a "Java Server" process, and communicates to the Crystal Reports process via CORBA TCP/IP connection.
    Commonissues that may arise:  (1) CRConfig.xml not configured properly, (2) unable to start or communicate to the "Java Server" because of permissions or firewall.
    Note that this is a separate connectivity map from using ADO or ADO.NET.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • Linux JDBC connectivity issues

    I am having trouble in connecting to 9i RAC via JDBC. The same sample application works well with windows/sun OS. In linux it returns Network Adapter error.I am using ojdbc14.jar to connect to DB.
    Appreciate your replies.
    Thanks.

    Saro,
    Do you also have 9i RAC on your Windows/SUN machines -- where you claim this application worked?
    Perhaps you could provide the entire error message (and stack trace) you are getting, as well as the section of your code that is causing the error?
    Assuming I am correctly guessing what your error message is, "Network Adapter" errors are usually caused because of an incorrect (database connection) URL.
    You should find example URLs for RAC if you search this forum's archives.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Two jdbc connections in one transaction

    Hi<br>
              <br>
              In a method of a container managed ejb session bean I have two jdbc connections. I've expected, that they will be in the same transaction, so results of any actions performed with first connection will be visible for the second connection, but it is not. <br>

    Hi,
              are you using XA transactions? Two separate JDBC Connections treated
              within one transactional context will require two phase commit (via
              Emulation or an XA database driver) Please check the connections
              settings within your datasources.

  • OS authentication in Oracle 10g via jdbc:oracle:oci

    I'm very much a newbie to Java / JDBC and I am trying, but failing, to connect with the database using OS authentication via jdbc, and hoping someone may help.
    My questions are:
    1. Is OS authentication supported for jdbc:oracle:oci with Oracle 10g ? I couldn't find a general statement of whether it works or not.
    (NB.The only information I managed to find, on another forum, is that it should be supported but there is a bug and so it does not work, but the author did not post all of his/her platform details, so the bug may only affect his/her situation. )
    2. If it is supported and works, could some one suggest what is wrong with my syntax . I could not find an example in any Oracle 10g/JDBC documentation.
    The details are as follows: -
    Database : - Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.2.0 running on Solaris.
    Development platform : - NetBeans 6.1, JDK 1.6.
    Runtime environment: - JRE1.6 on Windows XP professional.
    OPS$ authentication : - the OPS$ accounts have been set-up and we use these successfully for PL/SQL and SQL Plus access.
    JDBC : - I can connect to the database with both jdbc:oracle:thin ( linking in ojdbc14.jar) and jdbc:oracle:oci by using username and password, so I know my JDBC library linkage is OK, eg. this works fine :
    final String url = new String("jdbc:oracle:oci:" + uname + "/" + pword + "@" + environment);
    where environment is the SID
    I have trawled the Oracle documentation which tells me that OS authentication is not supported for Oracle 10g for the jdbc:oracle:thin driver, so I have tried to connect with jdbc:oracle:oci driver using the following code :
    final String url = new String("jdbc:oracle:oci:/@" + environment);
    final Driver driver = new oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver();
    DriverManager.registerDriver(driver);
    final Properties props = new Properties();
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url);
    but this gives the following error :
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
    Other info: - The tnsnames.ora file contains nothing but there are entries in the ldap.ora and sqlnet.ora files.
    My questions are:
    1. Is OS authentication supported for jdbc:oracle:oci with Oracle 10g ? I couldn't find a general statement of whether it works or not.

    If you specify the SID/service_name in the url, you are attempting to connect via SQL*NET and REMOTE_OS_AUTHENT must be set to true in the database. If you are connecting from the same host the database runs on, then just leave the SID off and make sure the ORACLE_SID environment variable is set.
    You can reproduce the same error you get in java with
    sqlplus /@SID

  • Problem closing sockets when using OCI8 JDBC connections

    Hi,
    We have a java thread that maintains a socket connection with a Telnet client. We are finding that this thread is unable to successfully close this connection with Socket.close(). The reason that close() fails appears to be that the same thread is creating an (OCI8 driver) JDBC connection via another Java object. If we don't create the JDBC connection within this thread the socket closes correctly.
    Has anybody else experienced such problems?
    We believe that this problem might be related to a BugRat report #391.
    Cheers.
    Max

    Sounds like a mis-match between the JDBC Drivers and the installed Oracle Client.
    The JDBC Drivers with JDeveloper 9.0.3 should be the 9.0.1.3 versions (included with the iAS Admin Client and iAS 9.0.2)
    Also note, the JDBC driver used by OC4J is "classes12dms.jar", not "classes12.jar"
    Hope this helps,

  • Execute anonymous PL/SQL block via JDBC - OUT parameter not available

    I have a simple proc on the database:
    CREATE PROCEDURE TEST(X OUT BINARY_INTEGER, Y IN VARCHAR) AS
    BEGIN
      X := 33;
    END; I am trying to invoke it via JDBC using an anonymous PL/SQL block:
            try {
                Connection connection =
                  DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:ORCL",
                    "scott", "tiger");
                CallableStatement stproc_stmt = connection.prepareCall(
                    "DECLARE\n" +
                    " X_TARGET BINARY_INTEGER;\n" +
                    " Y_TARGET VARCHAR(20) := :2;\n" +
                    "BEGIN\n" +
                    " TEST(X=>X_TARGET, Y=>Y_TARGET);\n" +
                    " :1 := X_TARGET;\n" +
                    "END;"
                stproc_stmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.NUMERIC);
                stproc_stmt.setString(2, "test");
                stproc_stmt.executeUpdate();
                Object o = stproc_stmt.getObject(1);
            catch (Exception e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } No exceptions are thrown, but the Object o does not get the value '33' - it is NULL.
    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance,
    Mike Norman

    I think the issue may be in how JDBC parameter binding is being managed throughout the block's lifecycle.
    The slightly-different TEST2 works:
    CREATE PROCEDURE TEST2(Y IN VARCHAR, X OUT BINARY_INTEGER) AS
    BEGIN
      X := 33;
    END;
    try {
        Connection connection =
          DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:ORCL",
         "scott", "tiger");
        CallableStatement stproc_stmt = connection.prepareCall(
         "DECLARE\n" +
         " Y_TARGET VARCHAR(20) := :1;\n" +
         " X_TARGET BINARY_INTEGER;\n" +
         "BEGIN\n" +
         " TEST2(Y=>Y_TARGET, X=>X_TARGET);\n" +
         " :2 := X_TARGET;\n" +
         "END;"
        stproc_stmt.setString(1, "test");
        stproc_stmt.registerOutParameter(2, Types.NUMERIC);
        stproc_stmt.executeUpdate();
        Object o = stproc_stmt.getObject(1);
    catch (Exception e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }The order of the bind indices ':1' and ':2' are reversed in the above anonymous block - we are returning via ':2'.
    I am wondering if 'under the covers' there isn't perhaps a cursor issue. When the original block is parsed and the first bind index is found to be position 2, somehow we can't go back to position 1 - a forwards-only cursor?

  • Create a jdbc connection within forms

    I have created a little piece of java code that connects to my database via a jdbc connection, inserts a value into a table, commits, then closes the jdbc connection.
    This works perfectly in JDeveloper.
    Now, I need to use it within forms, but forms is throwing an exception in the java console: [I have signed the file]
    and I also get an alert that says "FRM-92100: Your connection to the Server was interrupted. This may be the result of a network error or a failure on the Server. You will need to reestablish your session."
    I'm assuming when my java code tries to do a jdbc connection, it conflicts with the already established forms connection. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this?

    Hi 348874,Frank
    Frank,do you thinck that if this java class would extend VBean,instead of VButton will it make any diffence?(I mean,it do has a main method,wich isn't executed when the VButton initialises).
    Ín fact,when having a closer look into the java class(wich ,obvioulsly I didn't last time) I'm quite confused...why is this exception raising?
    This Component should do nothing in fact,when inserted into a form.
    As far as I know,from Forms Applet point of view,this class should be exactly a VButton,because the constructor and init() method are exactly the ones inherited from VButton(This class isn't adding anything to VButton)...Am I wrong??

  • Specifying Schema in JDBC Connection

    Hi Guys,
    MaxDB provides the possibility to logically unite several database objects (e.g. Tables, Views, Indexes, ...) in so called "Schemas".
    However, I couldn't find any documentation about how to connect to a certain schema via JDBC. How should the JDBC URL look like? Assuming I have this kind of URL jdbc:sapdb://localhost:7200/MAXDB. Is there a way to connect to the schema "DEMO"?
    Thanks for the help.
    Cheers,
    Gerardo

    Hi Gerardo,
    yes, it's rather simple to change the currently active default schema.
    The command for this is called SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = <SCHEMA_NAME>.
    Using the HelloMaxDB example from the documenation this can be used like this.
    import java.sql.*;
    public class HelloMaxDB
         public static void main(String[] args)
         throws ClassNotFoundException, SQLException
              String username = "MONA";
              String password = "RED";
              String host = "";
              String dbname = "DB77";
       * Load JDBC Driver
              Class.forName ("com.sap.dbtech.jdbc.DriverSapDB");
       * Define Connection URL
              String url = "jdbc:sapdb://" + host + "/" + dbname;
       * Connect to the Database
              Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection (url, username, password);
       * Execute SQL Statements
              Statement stmt = connection.createStatement ();
              ResultSet resultSet = stmt.executeQuery ("SELECT * FROM HOTEL.CUSTOMER");
              resultSet.next ();
              String hello = resultSet.getString (1);
            System.out.println ("SELECTED with schema name:");
              System.out.println (hello);
         * Change the default schema
            stmt.execute ( "SET CURRENT_SCHEMA=HOTEL");
              resultSet = stmt.executeQuery ("SELECT * FROM CUSTOMER");
              resultSet.next ();
              hello = resultSet.getString (1);
              System.out.println ("SELECTED without schema name:");
            System.out.println (hello);
              * close all objects
              resultSet.close ();
              stmt.close();
              connection.close ();
    Actuallyl easy cheesy, isn't it?
    Cheers,
    Lars
