Compressor changed my pixel ratio

So I'm trying to compress a QT movie I made in Motion using H.264. The result compressor gave me looked pretty good but it changed my dimensions from 720x480 to 320x240, which is not the same ratio. It's crunched my circular graphics into ovals and gave me those black bars on the sides. I've gotta get my original ratio back.
Secondly, how can I raise my data rate in compressor under the H.264 preset? I couldn't find any options for that.
Many Thanks,
Jagr

The result compressor gave me looked pretty good but it changed my dimensions from 720x480 to 320x240,
Compressor inspector window>geometry tab>frame size>popdown menu>720x480.
how can I raise my data rate in compressor under the H.264 preset?
Compressor inspector window>Encoder tab>click settings button right next to video> a window pops up>Check out the data rate settings on the top right corner of the window> Select *restrict to* and enter whatever value you may want to try (Try values under 2000 kbits/sec or higher> do some tests).
Testing is essential part of your work.

  • Compressor changes my aspect ratio

I'm trying to post a video on youtube that is HD and takes up the widescreen on youtube. I have done this before using the same settings I used this time, but for some reason Compressor automatically turns my file into a full screen ratio. When I try to upload the mp4 onto youtube, I get these huge black bars on the sides. If I play the .mov of the movie after I exported it from Final Cut, it plays in a widescreen format, but once compressor touches it, it changes to a full screen format. Can anyone help me? please!!!

Click the Geometry tab in the Inspector window and set the frame size to a 16:9 resolution (i.e. 1280x720)

  • Compressor Changes Aspect Ratio of Titles

In Final Cut Pro (6.0.6) I am editing HDV (1080) with a few titles. When I send the sequence to Compressor to export a file for Vimeo (1280x720), the video comes out fine, but the titles in the video are squished horizontally.
In FCP, my sequence is set to:
    frame size: HD (1440x1080) (16:9)
    pixel aspect ratio: HD (1440x1080)
    In Compressor, my settings are:
    encoder: Quicktime Movie (H.264, 5000kbps)
    geometry: 1280x720
I've messed around with different pixel aspect ratios and frame sizes in both FCP & Compressor. I've even changed the aspect ratios of my titles in FCP.
The only way I can currently make it work is to export the sequence as a self-contained QT movie and then send that to Compressor.
Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

Though it's nice to be able to export directly to Compressor, I've gone back to my old method, which works fine: I export as a "Quicktime Movie", making sure I am set to "Current Settings", "Make Movie Self-Contained" and do not "Recompress All Frames".
I then send this file to Compressor and run my "VimeoHD" preset and everything comes out fine.
The extra step is worth the reliability and troubleshooting factor. You also don't have to have both FCP & Compressor open at the same time talking to each other, which means you have more resources devoted to your compression.
I still wonder if this problem happens in FCS3?

  • How can I change the aspect ratio of an image display

I am snapping a sequence of images and using imgPlot to diplay the images. However, due to my camera specifications [it's a Pulnix 9701 with Pixel Size 11.6μm (H) X 13.3μm (V)], the image I get displayed is elongated in the horizontal direction, i.e. if I snap an image of a square, I get a rectangle on my computer display.
How can I change the aspect ratio of the display on my computer? The only parameters I have seen so far just control what portion of the image is acquired or diplayed, but none actually changes the aspect ratio.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are using an analog camera, you can set the aspect ratio in MAX. This will correct for non-square pixels.
If you are using a digital camera, I don't think there is a way to fix it during acquisition. You could resample the image to correct the ratios, but that would be a slow, time consuming process.
One other possibility is that your computer monitor is in a mode which is not a standard 4x3 configuration. For example 640x480 and 800x600 are 4:3 ratios. 1200x1024 is not, which tends to distort your displayed images.

  • Can't render out 1.44 pixel ratio for SD 16:9 UK TVC broadcast requirements ?

I'm prepping a TV advert for broacast in the UK and the station require an SD 16:9 1.44 pixel ratio 720x576 (1024x576), the problem is this just doesn't seem possible in after effects or any adobe porduct I can see ?
The only thing I can do is render out a 1.46 pixel ratio 720x576 (1050x576) version.
Any help on this would be greatly apreciated !

1.44 is actually wrong according to the specifications. The PAR for NTSC footage is also wrong. There's an article somewhere on the Adobe site that explains the decision and there's an article by Chris and Trish Meyer on the subject. Adobe changed it to be more, not less compliant. It wasn't that long ago and we were working with 640 X 480 as the standard video size for digital production. The very best workflow is to work in square pixels anyway and only squeeze the image as a final step. And as I said before, there are dozens of codecs that don't even have a spot in their container to define PAR. For some it's like trying to add PPI info to a .gif -
What codec do they require? What data rate? Where's the white paper. I'd be glad to read it. In practical terms, and for every network from the US, to France, to Japan, that I've ever submitted work to, match their request for delivery format and they never look back. They just take your money and play your stuff. Only once in more than 40 years of submitting programming to television did I have to send a network a different file or tape.
You can't be the only AE artist producing for broadcast in the UK. I've been in television since 1969 and was one of the first utilizers of desktop production in a major US market. It's about scan lines and timeing (frame size). Go to Angie Taylors's blog and ask her the question. She's one of the top AE artists and trainers in the UK.

  • Export to Media Encoder Changes the Aspect Ratio

    Hi,
How can I create an animation at a ratio of 720x576 (or any other size) without Premiere Pro changing it the moment I send it to export to make the animation?
I have a brief for an animation at 720x576, I have created a sequence of images for the animation - at 720 x 576 - I have created a sequence in Premiere Pro CS4 at a size of 720x576 -  it looks okay except for vertical black bars at either side - but the moment I export it to the media encoder and it renders it out - the image is all crunched up as if the height is 720 and the width is 576 - wrong!
(P.S. I used Premiere Pro CS2 at Uni and it was fine because I could tell Premiere to use or not use Square Pixels and I could tell it a custom pixel ratio and it would do as I said - CS4 seems to ignore me or just not give me any of the options I need.)
    Help?
I have searched in Faq's and around the Forum but found nothing that seems to relate to my problem.

As Ann states, if one gets letterboxing, or pillarboxing, there is a mis-match. It can be in the Aspect Ratio, (pixel x pixel dimensions of the Frame Size), or the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio). These MUST match 100%. If you have Square Pixels in your animation, then you MUST choose Square Pixels in your Sequence setting. If you do not find an exact match in the normal Presets, you will want to choose Desktop, where you CAN adjust almost all attributes for the Sequence to match your source footage.
    Good luck,

  • Pixel ratio problems

I am having aspect ratio problems with digital footage in FCE lately. The footage is shot on a couple of sony cameras (mine is a dcr-hc96) and captured directly into FCE. The footage is shot in 4:3 and I want the movie to be 4:3 to post on YouTube, etc. I have been capturing the clips using the "NTSC DV" setup (via firewire).
The problem is, when I save or export the movies, the frame is stretched. When I inspect it using QT Pro, it shows the size as "720x480 (640x480)" and the display is stretched wider than normal from side to side. Apparently, the image needs rectangular pixels but is using square pixels. The only way I can get a proper frame size is to explicitly export to "640x480 VGA." This has only started happening recently. (Possibly since I installed QT Pro...)
Any suggestions? I looked here and did not find anything directly applicable. The user manual does not help (it says "fortunately, FCE always works with native resolutions so you get the exact pixel dimensions.")
    thanks in advance

    +why this would happen...+
When you Export/Quicktime Movie or Export/Using Quicktime Conversion (and you use a DV codec) the resulting .mov file will always have rectangular pixels: 720x480 for NTSC. This is correct and it will display correct on a TV from the video DVD after burning this file.
If however you want to watch the same .mov file on a Mac (or PC) monitor, the player must change the pixel aspect ratio during playback, since Mac monitors are square pixels devices. The corresponding media is not affected by this option, but only the QT Player playback.
QT Player (with QT Pro) should default the Presentation option to: Conform aperture to = Clean, as I wrote in my previous answer: this is telling QT Player to make the pixel ratio conversion on the fly. My guess is that the "Conform Aperture to" option is not properly set for you; if it is not set, or it is set to Classic or Encoded Pixels it will show the stretched pixels. The Production option is almost like Clean.
If you export from FCE to some format other than DV in general its pixels are already square (e.g. H.264 has 320x240) and the Conform Aperture to option shouldn't affect the QT Player playback.
I hope this clarifies the point.

  • Pixel ratio, speed & quality...

I am making a slide show in FCP with the preset HDV1080i50 which gives me a frame size of 1440 x 1080 px (HD 1440 x 1080) (16:9) and pixel ratio HD (1440 x 1080) and anamorphic 16:9 not checked. I was told to work with the presets without modifying them.
Now I want to create some jpg images to fill the whole screen and with no distortion. What size and how do I prepare these files?
This movie will play on a hdtv video projector.
I also intend to downscale the movie to put it on sd dvd.
Another question... does a big jpg affects the performance of FCP? I mean if I import 500 1440x1080px jpg 10/12 into FCP to fill the whole screen or if I import 500 +/- 4000x2000px jpg 10/12 to be resized/cropped into FCP, will it make a difference in speed to create the movie, to render and to export it and will it make a difference of quality at the end?

  • Camileo S10 - how to change the aspect ratio to 16:9

Does anyone know how to change the aspect ratio when making movies with the arcsoft software included with the S10!!!!!
    Won't let me select 16:9 only 4:3!!!
Not sure why as when you play the recording back directly through the telly it does it in 16:9 so I know it's being recorded in the right ratio!!

You cannot change the aspect ratio because you record at full hd 1080. The S10 records in format 1440/1080 at full hd, wich means 4/3. The S10 is not capable to record in full hd at 1920/1080 (this is 16/9 full hd). It is simple:
Camileo S10 record 1440 pixels on horizontal and 1080 pixels on vertical. The aspect ratio is 4/3.
Answer for your question: if you want to see in 16/9 format use HD2 (720p) for recording.

  • How to change custom aspect ratio in Lighroom 5.

I am having trouble changing custom aspect ratio in lightroom 5. I can change it in 3 but it doesnt work in 5?

Custom aspect ratios are just that, ratios. There is no size involved. You control size in the print module or in the export dialogue. There is no provision in Lightroom itself to change the size of the image. Lightroom imports the image taken by the camera and displays all the pixels. Any sizing that you want done is enter your control using either Lightroom features. The original image size cannot be changed.

  • How do I change the pixel size of my photos?

    Hello,
Please give me step by step instructions on how to change the pixel size of my photos from the time I log in.
    Thank you.

    There are basically two ways.
Image>Image Size... This will adjust the quality of the image, allowing you to adjust the pixel dimensions and keep the full image.
In the tool bar on left side of screen 5th icon down looks like a sliding picture frame. That is the crop tool, that will adjust the pixel size of a document by removing a portion of the image, allowing you to get rid of portions of the image you do not want.
There are some other ways to accomplish the above, but these are the basics that everyone needs to know. I recommend playing with these tools on a copy of an image, that way you won't be afraid of destroying an image.

One way to to put the videos into an iDVD slideshow
and set iDVD's Slideshow preferences to always scale slides to TV Safe Area.
However, some users have reported that the audio quality using this method is lessened.  I've not noticed it but then I don't have a good ear when it comes to that sort of thing. If you add more than one video in the same slideshow do not select any transition.

  • How do I change the aspect ratio of source video in the event library?

I’ve imported video to iMovie 08 from a Canon Mini DV MD235 video camera. The video is recorded in widescreen format and plays back in widescreen when viewed from the iMovie event library (prior to doing any video editing). However, when I delete rejected frames from any particular video clip in the event library the video clip is automatically pillarboxed (i.e. switched from widescreen to 4:3 format). This squashes the video horizontally, stretches it vertically and leaves vertical black bars to the left and right of the video during playback. This automatic change in aspect ratio is occurring to the source video in the event library.
I’d be grateful for any help / advice on how I can convert the edited clips back to widescreen aspect ratio, so they display in the *event library* as they did when first imported into iMovie.

I don’t really want to clog up my hard drive with unwanted video and it’s easier to edit it from within iMovie.
Have you considered manually importing only portions of the clips you actually plan to use? Or, if you must import the entire clip, have you considered trimming externally in an application like MPEG Streamclip which will allow you to set frame level in/out points and then perform a "Save As..." operation that stores the select range of frames to an MOV file container retaining the proper flag?
Is there anything I can do from within iMovie to activate the 16:9 setting for these as yet unedited clips, so the same pillarboxing doesn’t happen?
Not sure what you mean by "unedited" here. If the files have been destructively split, the flag is gone and there is nothing you can do about it but re-compress. If you mean they are imported but as of yet whole and still contain their flags, then you have two options. The first is to edit non-destrctively within iMovie '08 and the second would be to do the trimming externally.
This second option is really fairly simple. Just close iMovie '08. Open MPEG Streamclip and load a clip you want to trim. Set your in and pout points, select the "Save As..." option, and store the files in the original Events folder with a new name. I would also recommend you perform these trims in their original time sequence so the "creation" date time groups (Finder attributes) are in time order also. When done with the loaded clip either delete it from the "Event" folder or move it to an archival location. When done with the last clip, close MPEG Streamclip, delete the Cache and Thumbnail folders from the Event folder, open iMovie '08 again, and go get a cup of coffee or tea while the files are re-thumbnailing. DO NOT DO THIS TO ANY EVENT WHICH CONTAINS FILES ALREADY USED IN ANY PROJECT. (I.e., this must be done before you start the actual project editing process.)
It seems odd to me that iMovie is doing this.
I suspect that as the application was originally written as an NLE, non-destructive, "by reference" application, the writers/updaters "overlooked" this facet when adding a "destructive" routine and did not provide for checks of this flag nor provide for copying it re-written segments.
