Compressor Plug-in

I have version 2.01 and would like to have the iPod encoder added to the Quicktime Export Components (I currently have 3G, Windows Media, Real Media, and AVI). Where do I find the plug-in? It's not obvious on the Compressor support page.
Power Mac G5 2.7ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   4 gigs RAM

You need to update your version of Compressor, to get those presets. If you don't wanna do that, you can have a look at the following article: http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/ipod_compressorkenlon.html
Good luck!

  • Standard compressor plug in: Built in Limiter

    Hi,
i have a question: Whenever i try to use the Limiter that is part of Logic's standard compressor, it induces clipping noise instead of preventing it. So, if i leave it off and use a standalone limiter plugin (in the chain right after the compressor), everything is fine. But when i try to use the built in thing (at the right side of the compressor plugin), clipping noises occur.
What am i doing wrong? Or is this simply a long known bug? Or does this "limiter" simply clip the sound in such a non-musical way that the brickwall is as hearable as "hard" digital clipping?
    Tnx for any answers!
    Fox

    Hi DaCaptain,
no offense, but a lookahead of 0 is nonsense for any plugin that has to pre -vent something from happening. With a time of 0, the event occured and the "limiter" can do nothing about it but do a hard clip. It's no miracle the limiter cannot do this and makes noises. The problem is that the built in limiter of the compressor plugin *has no* lookahead.
Concerning release time: 500ms is half a second. This is longer than a geophysical age compared to what needs to be done when limiting a signal. Surely, 500ms means the compressor ducks the signal for half a second, which means in this time, the signal is reduced in volume, as are it's peaks. As the peaks are reduced, they won't reach the limiter's treshold. In consequence, the limiter doesn't chime in - and of course, it doesn't induce the nasty noises, because the compressor has done it's work before it. So, release time has nothing to do with a lookahead.
From a sound engineer's point of view, 500ms release is used for maybe speech, or non-percussive voices and instruments. It is way to long for a signal that features many peaks that happen during this time. A drummer can easily hit more than 5 percussive sounds during 500ms, which will all be eaten by the long release. In consequence, the first drum hit would punch through (given a long enough attack) and all hits that occur during these 500ms will be chewn away by the long release. So: That's no workaround for the bug.
    Cheers,
    Fox

  • EQ Compressor plug in missing?

I've been using logicprox for a few months now and all of a sudden when I open up my projects there's orange exclamation points over the channel strip and it says plug in compresser eq missing. There's no sound coming out of any of my projects. It's updated to the newest version and i'm confused.

Hi Domo - had te same and it was linked to the audio preferences.  Go to Logic Pro, preferences, audio and check all of your devices are correctly linked and switched on.  Fixed the the problem and no more orange exclamation marks.  Hope that fixes yours.

  • Compressor plug-in missing drop down for side chaining

I want to use side chain compression but the Logic Pro X 10.1 compressor seems to be missing the drop down menu to specify what track I want to side chain to. I looked at screen shots of the compressor online and mine looks exactly the same except for missing that and a couple other elements in the header bar of the compressor.
Any thoughts about how to fix this? Should I just delete and reinstall Logic?
    Thanks

Make sure you have the correct Advanced Tools enabled.
Sidenote: lots of people seem to think that reinstalling Logic will solve issues, but it will not, except maybe in very rare and unusual cases (when a harddisk crashed or hung during install, for instance)

  • Compatible plug ins???

Just a quick question...I use pro tools LE to record but sometimes it is fun to just jam with garageband. Are plug ins for pro tools compatible with GB3?
I saw another post last week about using plug ins with GB.
BTW...you can download a free SSL compressor plug in from their website. It is modeled after the phil collins gated drum effect. It works in GB.

Check out this thread. Prepare to be mind blown...

  • So many compressors, so little know-how...

Hi - I'm a Logic Express 7 user about to start mixing a song in the box for the first time, and I was wondering if anyone has any advice about the compressors included in the Logic Express bundle. For ex., what makes the Silver Compressor different from the regular old Compressor? If they're all terrible, and you'd recommend purchasing a really good compression plug-in, what plug-in would you recommend?
    Thanks!

    Hi YR,
as you may have notice, the silver's has less buttons to play with,(also easy on processor) than the compressor, that comes with some presets (tools, drums, instrument & vocal). Sure, there's some great compressor plug-ins out there,
but if you need a more professional sound, may be you should thinking of upgrading to Logic Pro that comes with all the tools.
I really don't think you could call it Terrible, they're usefull, try to play with the parameters, ear the diferent presets and how they affect the sound,
and also google some information on compression and what you can archive with those knobs. (in case you don't know)
A compressor, could make a track sit great on a mix but it can also ruin it!
    try
    http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/software.php/id/7037/audio/Plug-ins/plugins/AU /
    for some AU free plug-ins.
    regards,

  • Which compressor Type is the Best for Voice over recordings?

The compressor Plug in in sdtr pro has a vca, platinum, opto etc
Which One is the Best for male Voice overs?
I don't Know the differences opto, platinum, opto....

Opto, VCA, and FET refer to models of different analog circuitry that accomplishes compression in different ways.
Not positive, but I think "platinum" is not really a model, but the plug's own compression scheme.
When I worked at an audio post facility, we had hardware UA 1176 compressors, which are FET compressors. They sounded pretty fantastic, but that's not saying that the model in the plugin will sound that way.
Here's a nice discussion of the different types:
    http://www.barryrudolph.com/mix/comp.html
Scroll down to the salmon background sidebar.
Ultimately, it's really best to try the different models out and see which sounds best on your material. Let your ears be the judge.
    Good luck!

Split stereo SD2 files no longer incorrectly import as AIFF files when the WAV file option is enabled.
The “Share Song to iTunes” command now creates a playlist with the name entered if there is not already an iTunes playlist with that name.
MIDI events that precede the start point of a region are no longer included when the region is exported as a MIDI file.
    Stability and reliability
Includes several fixes related to stability and reliability, including to resolve issues that could cause Logic to quit unexpectedly in these circumstances:
When changing the length of a time-stretched region
When importing tracks from another project
When recording with the color palette open
When bypassing an instance of the Maschine plug-in
When exporting Music XML after applying Enharmonic Shift to some notes
When changing the range on an Environment fader whose style was set to Text
When quitting a project that has a Surround Compressor inserted on a channel strip
When removing a control surface from the Control Surface setup window when the Logic Remote is also present
When changing the range value of a Smart Control during playback.
When reapplying a Time and Pitch operation after undoing a previous one
When dragging an audio region from a take folder to a new song

    Thanks Erik,
If nothing else, this huge list of updates and fixes, shows clearly that the Logic Dev team is working hard on fixing and improving LPX to a major degree.... and from the list of fixes done.. show they do read the bug reports submitted!
    As an aside....
I recall how all the 'naysayers' prior to LPX (and in some cases, since...)  were proclaiming how Logic was dead, the team was being disbanded, we won't see any further development, the Dev team doesn't listen or care... and so on....... I wonder where those people are now?

  • Recording compression "destructively" - Input Object?

My goal is to record some compression to disk "destructively," but leave the reverb, eq, etc. only for monitoring until final mixdown. Seems like a simple enough process in the manual, but I don't understand where to put the compressor insert. I am confused with input channel, input object, input source and audio track. Here's the manual explanation:
Page 298 of the ref manual states: "Example: To avoid large jumps in level, it is often useful to record a vocal track with light compression. To do so; insert a compressor plug-in into the input channel and assign the Input Object as the input source of an audio track. During recording, the effect of the compressor is recorded with the track."
In terms of a simple analog desk, you are processing an input, taking that output into another input, then adding verb, etc. But where in LP do you put that compressor, and how do you assign that output to the arrange window's tracks?
Someone help this poor man; I have stumped every Apple Store rep I have asked.
    RCarbaugh

You can use a normal Audio track and for it´s Input you select e.g. Input 1 as your source (in the parameter window there is a window where you can assign any Audio object to your channel). You could also use an Aux object for the same purpose (in that case select input 1 in the little square above the fader). Then you insert a compressor in the channel strip like you would normally do and send it to the monitoring bus or output - done...

  • 4.1 Upgrade Won't Open

Compressor 4.1 will not open.  Each time I try to open it, I get a dialogue box that says it has "Unexpectantly Quit".  I've been using Compressor successfully for years and it's always worked flawlessly.  So this is a bit of a surprise.
I'm running Mavericks 10.9.1 on a MAC Tower circa 2009. It's a 2x3 Ghz quad core.  Since I've upgraded to FCPX 10.1 I find the whole system is sluggish and I'm having a tape transport control issue with 10.1.  Is anyone else experiencing these problems.
I do have a second edit station running a 2 yr old 27" iMAC, also with Mavericks and FCPX 10.1.  Compressor 4.1 installed and is working fine there.
Any ideas on the Compressor issue?......and if anyone has found a fix for the J & L keys not working to control tape transport, it would be nice to hear that, too.

Hey Russ, thanks for the suggestions.  Yes.  I have uninstalled and re-installed a number of times.  This typically will resolve any problems I've had in the past.  Not this time.
I have repaired the permissions: no luck there.  Normally trashing Preferences would be the first thing I'd do, but for some odd reason I cannot locate the Preferences for Compressor in, to me, what would be its logical location...the Preferences folder inside the Library folder on my startup drive.  Am I missing something here?  Has Apple given it a different name? or placed it somewhere else?
I'd like to believe that would turn out to be the easy fix.
I continue to get different results when trying to open the App.  Sometimes I get a dialogue box "Compressor Unexpectedly Quit While using the Compressor Plug-in".  Other times the splash screen comes up, the window opens, but it's a distorted, blank gray screen. I can acces the Import file drop down.  The dialogue says the file was imported successfully, but it doesn't show up on screen....and the app eventually crashes.
    Thanks again for your suggestions

  • Frequency Smoothing Across Audio Spectrum Question . . .

I plan to post this querry on the Logic and Soundtrack Pro forums as well, seeing as they will probably add some good suggestions. For now, however, I will start here, as it is FCP that I have been working with the most.
I am editing the voice over portion of a feature length project of mine. The nature of the manner in which I recorded the voice over sessions was such that I have multiple takes (sometimes 50 plus) of, for example, each word in a phrase. Well, after choosing the final VO edit, all is generally good and well. Howver, due to the fact that any final VO edit is comprised of a hodge podge mix of, say, 100 different total takes, there are certain dynamic frequency idiocincracies that are apparent; at least to me - which is enough for me to do something about it.
My question is this: Is there an FCP plug in or anything of the like (in Soundtrack Pro or Logic that anyone knows about) that can give a "representation" (for lack of a better word) of dynamic frequencies (shows you the highs, the lows, the mids, etc, etc), and - MORE IMPORTANTLY - can "smooth out" the different frequency anamolies and give me a homogeneous frequency dynamic across my scene(s)? The second portion of this question is the real important one to me, by the way. I want to know if there's a way to, again, smooth out differing frequencies so that the VOed scene sounds much more natural.
I'm not even sure if I even ASKED this question correctly/understandably or not . . . so please let me know if anyone requires more elucidation upon this inquiry.
Thank you very much everyone, in advance, for all your help.
    Javier Calderon
    Macintosh Dual 2 Gig G5 Mac OS X (10.4)

Don't waste anymore time trying to do this in FCP.
It just doesn't have the best tools available to do this job. You can't hear the results of your audio filters in real-time, etiher - you need to render first.
Soundtrack Pro, ProTools, Peak, Deck, Logic... use anything that has proper audio tools and plug-ins available to you, as well as being able to audition in real-time.
    "Smoothing" tips? Here's two.
    1) Use some kind of audio compressor plug-in using a "voiceover" or "vocal" preset to tame and regularize flucuations in the dynamics of the edited track. Perhaps a multiband compressor might do a better job for you, but that can be a somewhat complex tool to master.
    2) Add a very small amount of "small room" or "medium room" reverb to the edited track. Sometimes a barely audible amount of reverb can go a long way toward smoothing out a choppy voiceover track.
    Good luck.

  • Extigy purchased - What do I ne

    Hi everyone.
I purchased an Extigy from eBay knowing it would be a bit better than my existing 5: card.
However I simply wish to know what drivers I need as there has been no CD supplied. I have checked the Creative downloads section but the two files which look promising are also stating that existing version of said driver/firmware/software must be present before updating.
So effecti'vely....where do I get the original drivers, or will it PnP ?
    Regards
    Wiggz

theres a lot of options depending on what kind of sound you need to record.. if you want to record good quality voices you need good mics and preamp. a not bad/good studio mic for vocal can easyly cost over a few thousand $$$ and thats the same for good pream
    ps.
. but if you want only some OK quality for a "fine but near cheap" recording you can try a Shure sm58 mic (00 $$ or something like that) plugged directly in a not bad sound card (like the audigy) and adjust the sound with plug-ins and softwares. Steinberg Wavelab is a good one that i use with Sony Soundforge.. these are good for mastering and recording. wavelab is fine for simple audio mixes and it comes with some nice plug ins like de-esser and voice attenuator for vocals and some stuff like that..so a sm58 with a good compressor plug in and reverb with good EQ can sound not bad..
i do electronic music so i dont have to buy a lot of recording stuff beacause its almost all made directly inside the computer. but for the voices and recording i use a sm57 with a guitar preamp and good plugins and thats fine. for the sound card an audigy 2 platinum was a good start for me 2 years ago and ill keep it even if i am planning to buy a delta 00 soon.there are thousands of setups possible for home or pro studios so thats hard to find exactly what you need when you begin anyways good luck. i hope this help you a lil

  • Adaptive Limiter: What's input scale?

I'm reading the plug-in manual and it says this about the ad-limiter:
Start the process by adjusting the Input Scale, just as you would set a mixing desk’s
Gain parameter, or a digital recorder’s recording level. The parameter behaves much
like a Gain control, but its purpose is to adjust the input level, which must never exceed
0 dBFS. Adjust the Gain parameter to musically control the internal process of peak
    smoothing and gain increase.
Does that mean the margin value should never exceed 0.0? I'm not sure exactly what they mean my that. Then I use the gain to control the amount of limiting right?
Also, why is it that when I crank the gain all the way up the levels actually drop down a bit? Sure it sounds like crap but I'm just curious if anyone knows.

yes bnob, the input scale should not be set so the left hand meter zero's out.
    ever.
digital clipping will result. basically it's just a trim control.
once this is set correctly, the gain control should be used to pump up da volume. bare in mind that too much of this leads to mixes with little energy or dynamic. not a good thing, generally.
a more sane approach is to put a compressor plug before it set as a leveller.
a leveller has a deep threshold, slow attack, low ratio, mid-slow release and soft knee. also try the soft clip with it. this setting will make things louder but you might get overs. that where the ad lim comes in.
it takes care of the peaks.

  • Premiere CC Multicam Project Freezing

Recently started encountering errors with Premiere freezing after adding multicam sequences to the project. For a couple hours it was working great, and being very responsive (working the way it should). Then out of nowhere it froze on me, and the playhead would not respond, of course then "not-responding" popped up and was only able to close by force quitting in the windows task manager.
For trouble shooting I then did the following things
    - restarted system
    - open other projects without multicam and verified they worked normally
    - checked for updated graphics drivers
    - ran windows disk check on the drive the media is on, even though other projects on the same drive work fine
    - tried to work on other parts of the project where no multicam was. This had the project being super laggy and not playing footage until minutes after pressing play, then of course freezing after a couple more minutes.
    - Opening Premier while pressing alt
Premiere Pro CC version 7.2.2 (33)
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
    Intel i7 X990 @ 3.47GHz
    24GB RAM
    PNY Quadro 4000 GPU
If I need to add any other info please advise and thanks for any input.

No it was not. Thanks though
I did find what caused the problem. I put the stock Multiband Compressor plug-in onto the master audio track in the sequence containing all the raw video. This way no matter what part of the multicam nest I was cutting from (they are interviews) the plug-in would be applied globally. I guess Premiere does not like this one bit. So now I have to do it the long way and go clip to clip though the whole project.
Does anyone know if there is another workaround for this? I am going to submit the issue as well in hopes for a bug fix.
    Thanks
