Compressor via Terminal

Does anyone know, how to start compression via terminal command?
For example: ./compressor -somepreset_name_oroptions input_file output_file
I need to do automatic compression of all files in some directory. And want to write some script, that monitor this directory for new files. But i don't know how to start compression from that script.

Strongly suggest posting to the Unix forum under OS X Technologies where the Unix/Terminal gurus hang out.

It appears as if my startup disk has been reversed and not using the fusion ssd portion as it should. At least its now reversed as to what it used to be originally before. the 128gb ssd used to be on top. Is my mac booting fusion correctly? Thank you for responding as I was about to reformat.

How to check folder sizes of the root directory on my VPS/Dedicated server via Terminal?

How can I do that via Terminal?

login into your VPS server via terminal and cd into the root of your hosted space. Then use the df -h command to see the listing
for i.e.
df -h /volumes/volume_1

for you it would be something like:

USB P1505 not printing properly via Terminal Services

I have problem printing to these printers via terminal services. Other pinters print fine but these guys either print intermittently or not at all. I have installed the latest drivers on the TS and the clients. Sometimes sessions will be created and jobs would just remain in the queue or take a very long time to print. They are the USB and not the N models.
Any ideas?

The router is Zylex, the printer is an hp deskjet 3512. I first used the disk that came with the printer that did not work, so I uninstalled and downloaded off of this site thinking maybe it would be a more updated version. That did not work either. I have done all of the other troubleshooting that I have found on this site through other forums I unplugged the router, checked countless times to make sure the password and network were correct.
My main issue at this point in time is that it will not print properly at all. I dont know if I need to download something to make it work. I am a full time student, work full time, and have children. I need my printer to work when I hook it up to usb, I dont have time to for all of these problems that I have had with this printer. I am actually in need of something printed at this very moment and my library is closed which is where I have had to go and pay .25 a page to print anything. So Please help!!!!

I have a problem when starting my Macbook. A message saying /Library/StartupItems/Icon has not been started due to not having the right security settings. So far it is not under HD og system folder, nor can't find via terminal. Any good suggestions?

I have tried to delete it via terminal but no luck, have also run a disk permissions repair but no luck.
I still shows when starting the mac or restarting it.
Any of you have a good suggestion of what do??

What items do you have in the Startup Items of your System Preference for your present login user? Maybe removing and adding them back in will help?

How can I enable java applet plug-in and Web Start applications via terminal?

Since the last Java update to Snow Leopard, I have found that the system periodically disables the Java applet plug-in after a period of disuse. I know I can go to /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences and just click to re-enable Java. But I want to write a script which will do this periodically for a couple hundred Mac users where I work.
My question is - how can I reenable the Java applet plug-in and web start applications via Terminal command? Is this possible? Is there a plist file that can be modified, etc.?

It is my understanding that Apple's most recent Java update automatically disables Java after a certain period of time that it hasn't been used. We don't want users to have to keep re-enabling it. So we wanted to find a way to do this via script either run by a Casper JSS server or stored locally on each workstation.   With the guidance provided by Mark Jalbert above and some text from a script written by Rich Trouton, I was able to make a script (with some minor changes) and a launch agent to re-run the script upon login. So the preference is always enabled.
For your reference, the script content is:

Accessing SAP GUI via terminal services

In my current project, it is proposed that all SAP development be done remotely via terminal services login to host machine. Does anuone have experience of this way of working? If so what problems were encountered (performance / response times?) and was this method of development successful?

We did this for a short while for off hours development work and had to quit, but the reasons may be specific to us. We are only doing ABAP development.
1. Support. Developers would be disconnected (for what ever reason) then when reconnect the terminal server would open another session, taking another key, and potentially loosing unsaved code.
2. Debugger. The new debugger, as of ECC, really lends itself to a wide display or two screens, we were very limited to what display options we had by the terminal server (again this might be specific to the way the TS was setup here, but you might want to check)
As I mentioned ours was for off hours support, so we setup the developers the ability to remote desktop to their desktops through VPN.

Installing Plugins via Terminal (Mac)

I would like to be able to install plugins in Extension Manager via terminal and enable the installed plugins for a specific set of extensions (InCopy). I have downloaded the Adobe Extension Manager Help and Tutorials document and it explains the process of installing plugins via terminal. But when I run the install command, it actually launches Extension Manager in the console.
I want to be able to install extensions and plugins silently and even when the user is not logged in. Is this possible and can someone point me to a document which explains the process?

If your extension is per-machine extension (all files in extension will be installed to per-machine location), you have to include "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Extension Manager CS6/Configuration/DB/ExMan.db", "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Extension Manager CS6/EM Store/InCopy CS6/*.*" and "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Extension Manager CS6/Mxi Flag/InCopy CS6/*.*"

a Windows Domain Controller does not have any local user or groups. So you might add the user to the admin group at Domain level.

Installing STRUCTURE via Terminal

I am attempting to install the program STRUCTURE via Terminal. I have installed other programs via Terminal w/ no problems. However, I now get the line:
mkdir: /usr/local/Structure/: Permission denied
I tried going into the script and replacing /usr/local w/ my own directory info. Permission is then not denied, however, the installation fails. What am I doing wrong?

If you're not using sudo when you're running the installer, you need to use it.

How to assign Static IP via Terminal in Mountain Lion OSX?

I have formatted by Macbook Pro 13 inch (2009 Oct) running on Mountain Lion OSX. I am trying to install the OSX via Ethernet at office network but I am unable to do so due to network restrictions. Macbook Pro picks the IP automatically when connected over Ethernet.
In order to install the OSX over the same network I have to configure the Macbook to static IP (public netowork). Could you please guide me how to configure Static IP via Terminal? I mean the commands to feed in Terminal. Thanks!

First get a list of your network services:
networksetup -listallnetworkservices
Then use the desired service name in the following command:
networksetup -setmanual SERVICE IP SUBNET ROUTER
For example, by default the Wi-Fi connection will be called "Wi-Fi," so you can use the following to set it to a classic private IP address:
networksetup -setmanual Wi-Fi 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
To set it back to DHCP, use the following command:
networksetup -setdhcp SERVICE
To keep DHCP services but only use a manually designated IP address, then use the following command:
networksetup -setmanualwithdhcprouter SERVICE IP
You may need to preceede these commands with "sudo" (followed by a single space) to run them with administrative privileges.

but there is an error:

(John is a right contact)
And how can I send pictures via Terminal?

How can I tell OS X that I want to send a document and not a text?

In the beginning iChat was AIM Only.
Much of the AppleScript written for the app is written with this is mind.
"picc-in-chars" are treated as Files whether they are sent as File Only with no Chat open or as Files within the Chat (which then displays the pics in most cases).
The Auto Accept Script may give some clues.
It reads this for the Receipt of files and pic-in-Chats.
To access this go to the Messages > Preferences > General section.
At the bottom is drop down for AppleScript with an option to show the Folder.
This no longer displays the ~/Library/Scripts/Messages folder that Messages 7.x.x did (as did earlier version of iChat) that were used in the Alerts tab.
If you open the Script you can see it refers to "theBuddy" for some of the other Events.
I am not sure this can be applied to the iMessages side of things.
The Dictionary for Messages has this

The Dictionary also defines "Buddies" as being related to specific Services

The end bit tweaks your volume Input and output from your regular settings.

Outlook via Terminal Server possible ?

in the 9i release the Outlook Connector didn't work when outlook was accessed via Terminal Server and no local outlook installation was available.
Did this change with 10g ? Is this now possible ?
It would be important to have this function in order to do Application Service Providing
with OCS.
