Computer crash - attempting retrieval from ipod... please help!!

had the blue screen of death last week.. boohoo, i know. have had to install a new harddrive, so all my itunes is toast. trying to get everything back by downloading it off the ipod but i just cannot figure out how. how do i get it to see that ipod's libarary as somethign accessible and then copy it over? HELP ... please!?

The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is also manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 and Windows Vista so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location mention for instance but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward but check for ones that work are advertised to work specifically with the shuffle. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

I had this problem just the other day it took me a few day to figure it out but what I did is go to setttings and click store then sign in . It then told me that I have to review payment option. Theer should be a option none in payment options but if there is not put in a credit card then conferm it then when your done you can take off your credit card option

You can name your iPod whatever you like. If you are connecting a second iPod for your own use, just connect it to your computer and it will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually.
When using a small capacity iPod like the Nano with a large library, you can choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" (called Sync Music - All songs and Playlists in iTunes 7). This would allow you to create a playlist specifically for your Nano and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod Nano (around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB). Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:

Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

Hi, I¹ve been through it again to ensure I¹ve not forgot things. Completely
removed Lightroom and all files I can find, etc and reloaded. Some tedious
result. Step 6 is too time consuming at the moment for me, too many things
on the go since I¹m about to go on holiday and on return I shall need
Lightroom on this iMac. Any clues? This iMac had Mavericks from new,
uploaded to Yosemite and then loaded Photoshop CC, Lightroom etc and get
this damned problem.
Reading around the web I¹m not the only one with this issue, to suggest a
new user a/c is a soft option without resolving the issue.
I hope an expert from Adobe can resolve this,

Please take these steps to restore administrator privileges to your account. This somewhat tedious procedure is only necessary if you've confirmed that no adminstrator account exists on the system.
If you don't already have a current backup of all your data, you must back up before taking any of the steps below. Ask if you need guidance. You won't need the backup unless something goes wrong—which is always a possibility.
Step 1
Start up in Recovery mode. The OS X Utilities screen will appear.
Step 2
Take this step only if you use FileVault 2. Launch Disk Utility, then select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
Step 3
Select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:

Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Select your startup volume if not already selected. Pull down the menu labeled
Select the user account
and select
System Administrator (root)
Follow the prompts to set a password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9. I suggest you write down the password. If you don't write it down and forget it, you'll have to start over from Step 1.
Select

from the menu bar.
Step 4
This step, like Step 2, applies only if you use FileVault. Log in as usual, then select

from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-Q. Don't restart. You'll be returned to the login screen.
Step 5
At the login screen, click Other... Enter "root" (without the quotes) in the Name field, and enter the password you set in Step 3 in the Password field. You should now be logged in as root. This is a potentially dangerous condition. Do nothing while logged in as root except as indicated below. You'll be fine as long as you don't deviate from the plan.
Open the Users & Groups preference pane. Select your usual administrator account in the list of users and check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
You'll be prompted to restart. Do that and log in as yourself—not as root. Your administrator status should now be restored.
Step 6 (optional, but recommended)
Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Disable the root user." You must authenticate in Directory Utility as "root" with the password you set in Step 3. Authenticating as another administrator won't work.

It sounds like it still has her information on it, so it might be efficient to navigate to Settings, then General, then Reset, then Erase All Content and Settings. You can then set up the phone again, using your information. This way the phone will be yours, officially, and her data and information will be removed.

iPhoto isn't in my applications to I can't drag it to dock. All images and movies are still on Mac (heart did stop as I thought I'd lost everything and nearly cried) but I don't know how to get iPhoto back. I'm worried about trying different things as don't want to lose anything on Mac. Noticed that I haven't been using Time Machine and bought a couple of years ago so not sure what operating with. I have our 2 CDs from when we bought the Mac - 13-inch Macbook Pro (Mac OS X Install DVD) and 13 inch MacBook Pro (Applications Install DVD). My photos are not backed up so not sure if I need to do this first - can I back up to iCLoud or do I need newer software?
Any help would be greatly appreciated - need lots of step by step instructions though!

I'm assuming you mean you don't have your camera application (which is not saved on any backup anyway).
One way to find it is to get to your home screen, swipe the screen from right to left, and type "Camera" in the search field. Camera is a core Apple app and cannot be deleted, so it must be there somewhere.
An alternate approach is to do Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout
