Computer will shuts down.

My Satellite P105-S921, recently started to refuse to stay powered up. It will shut down anywhere between one to three minutes after being powered on. I was able to determine that it was not a software issue but an hardware issue. I believed it was most likely a problem with the motherboard and replaced the original board. After getting the laptop back together, it powered up fine and once again shut off after three minutes. Seeing that the exact same issue is happening with a second system board in place, is the most likely suspect for the problem the CPU? Can anyone advise me what you think is the culprite?

I beg to differ.  I've seen lots of systems overheat and shutdown in less than a minute when the heatsink was improperly mounted or the fan failed.

Help me out! When I'm typing on my keyboard my computer will shut down. I can't figure it out. It's happening more and more like several times a day. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this annoyance? My computer is updated with maverick.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful.

  • Computer Constantly Shutting Down

    In short:
The computer is a mid-2007 white MacBook. It has about 1G of RAM and a brand new 250GB hard drive.
The computer will turn on properly or the display will remain black. Sometimes the OS starts, other times it doesn't. When everything does start up properly, even with the computer connected to power, it will shut down after about five minutes of use.
Could it be the fan or the optical drive (which runs pretty hard when there is a DVD in it)?
I'm willing to put money into it. I want to learn how to refurbish this so I can keep my new one updated and running strong for as long as I want it to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. She's a student away at school and this is her only computer. Her PC crapped out about a week after I bought my new MacBook, perfect timing, and now this one has.
    More details below...
I bought a new MacBook in December and gave my old one to my girlfriend. The old one was working just fine when I gave it to her. It was from mid-2007 and had no major problems (I went through a few batteries, but that was it).
Before I gave it to her I installed Snow Leopard on it. She started using it and it was working just fine for a few days until one day it just shut down on her. I figured she had just drained the battery but when it was plugged into the power (battery charging and everything) it would start up and then shut right back down again.
After multiple attempts, I finally got the computer to stay on long enough for me to wipe the hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard. The computer shut down again after about 20 minutes of use with the operating system re-installed.
Then I decided to take it to the Apple Store and ask a Genius for their help. The guy said it sounded like the hard drive and did the diagnostic report and, though, everything showed up good he was confident that if I put a new hard drive in it I'd get her running again.
I put the new hard drive in and even took off the top case and cleaned the dust out very carefully. It was dusty after three and a half years. I figured it might be overheating due to build-up if it wasn't the hard drive. So, I started the computer up with the install disc in and partitioned the hard drive as I should have and reinstalled Snow Leopard. Everything worked for a couple of hours. I used it as my own for a day and then, after I was confident that it was in working order again, shut it down to give back to my girlfriend.
When we started it up, we had the same problem again that we had before. Even though now she has a new hard drive and everything.
Any ideas? We'll take anything we can get and appreciate your help. These are such great products, the last thing I want to do is have to toss one out.

    Anthem,

And maybe you don't talk to too many people but I've been on many forums on different websites where people have had similar problems and a lot of people in the store were having battery problems where they were draining too fast. What I learned is that all the people who did not download the updates are good. There phone is working the same. The people who have, they're having battery problems
I have downloaded every update and my battery life is better than any previous iPhone I have ever owned. I see posts from hundreds of people every day, and this is not a commonly reported problem. While there are a few random reports of battery problems, it is no more than I have seen for any other model or any other version of iOS in almost 8 years. Usually problems of rapid battery drain can be traced to bad apps (FaceBook is the worst offender) or corrupt data being synced from iCloud or other sources (gmail, Windows Live, Yahoo, etc).
The simple test is to restore the phone as New. Do not create any email accounts. Do not install any apps. Do not enable FaceTime or iMessage. Do not enable Twitter or any other social networking app. Use it for a day and check the battery usage. You will find that it is working well.
And also see this: http://www.overthought.org/blog/2014/the-ultimate-guide-to-solving-ios-battery-d rain. It is the best treatise I have seen on the subject of battery usage.

  • My computer keeps shutting down when i try turn it on

My computer keeps shutting down when I try turn it on

Sounds like you may have hard drive issues.
You can try using built in diagnostics if you have them by holding D on startup.  If nothing special happens, your model does not have them.  You can then try to boot to recovery by holding Option while starting up and selecting Recovery HD.  (Run Disk Utility Repair)  If no Recovery HD appears, then you have a bad hard drive or an older OS than supports it.
If neither of those works I'd take it to an Apple store or Authorized Apple Service Provider near you for a diagnostic test.  Apple will do it for free, so it's preferred for a test, but may not be the best price for a simple hard drive replacement.  Head over to locate.apple.com to find the nearest AASPs and Apple Stores and set up an appointment.

  • My iPhone 4S will shut down for no reason

My iPhone 4S will shut down for no reason with plenty of battery life. Why does this happen?

    Hi 123Guardian,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The following article will provide some troubleshooting steps for your iPhone.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If that does not resolve the issue, refer to page 150 in the iPhone User Guide to Reset All Settings:
iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
The final troubleshooting step would be to restore your device:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition. Before restoring:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
    Back up your device.
Transfer and sync content to your computer.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Mail will shut down directly after launch

Once I launch Mail, I will see 2-3 second view of my "inbox" and then it will shut down. I tried restarting my computer, which made no change. My software is updated as far as I can go.
I have not noticed anything else wrong with my other programs or the computer in general. Although in Safari, my back/forward buttons were missing from my tool bar. I've added them back along with a couple other buttons and they seem to be working fine.
I also had the bright idea of re-installing the mail software, but could not find it it on the original disks, nor could I find it on this website.
If anyone can offer some suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
    Mac Mini (PowerMac10,2)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5 GHz

Hey, I had the same issue just now. It happened to me after a system crash. I ran disk utility to fix my preferences, then disk warrior. Right after that, the mail closed down as soon as it started up. I seemed to have fixed it though. First I went to my system/Library folder and copied my Mail folder to the desktop. I then went to my user folder/Library/Preferences and deleted the file com.apple.mail.plist. This forces you to re-install your mail server settings. After your account is re-made, it will ask if you want to import mailboxes. Choose the mail folder you copied to the desktop and you SHOULD have your files back. Someone may have a better system, but this seems to be working for me. Good luck.

my computer is shutting down after being used for a long period, stating that the cooling fan is not working accordingly and i do not know what to do about it. what is surprising me is that the computer is just some months old and has began to give me challenges. nonetheless am hoping on you to solve the problem, your kind help will be highly appreciated thank you

Deleting widgets seems to have worked for me - specifically, I think, the Harmonic widget was the culprit. Since that never worked very well anyway, it's not even too much of a loss.
    Thanks very much.
NB In my case, it didn't happen with an iPod plugged in. I did have other programs running, but usually only Mail and Safari, plus the Dashboard.

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.
