Concatenating texts from multiple IDoc segments

Hi everybody!
I have to concatenate log texts supplied via IDoc segments into one string. There can be zero or more segments, each with one line of the long text. The result should be one single string field filled with all the lines concatenated.
What's the easiest way to achieve this result? Do I need a user-defined function or can I code this using standard built-in funtions (this solution would be preferred)?

Use the UDF with the following logic.
Take the input type as Queue of the Segments
Concatenate the temp = temp + a in the loop
return the temp.
UDF as follows:
String temp = " ";
for(int i=0; i< a.lenght; i++)
temp = temp + a
return temp;
Your probelm will solve with the above UDF.

Exporting Text from multiple text boxes?

I'm using InDesign CS3 on the Macintosh. I need to export text from multiple text boxes/stories into one text file. The Export File command only exports text when the text tool is selected and the cursor is in the text box. Unfortunately, I have 8-20 individual text boxes per page, none are linked, and my document is 100+ pages, so selecting each text box individually is much too time consuming. There must be a better way - Please help!

The text exporter plug-in seems to work! I did a quick test - text still will need some clean-up to make sure it's in the correct order, but MUCH better than exporting each story individually. THANKS!

how I can disable this feature
I want disable this feature because I write a program that process (encrypt) and copy every element recursively , I used chain encryption algorithm that mean if one bit change or shift all result will be wrong
when I encrypt, for example count 323 run in one textelement but after encryption and when I want decrypt in same textelement I just get 322 run, I think this problem caused by PDFEdit combines text.

Pdfedit can and often will write a completely different set of operators. It converts the operators to an object representation, then wites opererators for the objects. you cannot stop this, it is what it is supposed to do.

Mapping Items in XML string to multiple IDOC segments

I would like to map an XML tag <Text>Line1Line2Line3Line4</Text>
to an IDOC segment E1ED1TEXT . Defined as occurring 0 to 999999.
I would like to map each item separated by a tilde into a separate occurence of the IDOC text segment. Is ther anyway to repeat the mapping without duplicating the subtree.

mapping is like this:
Text -> UDF -> splitByValue:eachValue -> Text_Id
UDF is of context type
argument is input
String temp[] = input[0].split("~");
for(int a=0;a<temp.length;a++){
result.addValue(temp[a]);

Generate multiple Idoc segments

Hi all,
I have a Flat file to Idoc Scenario.
I need to generate no. of multiple Idoc Segments based on the source field value.
For Eg: if Field1 starts with 5 or 6 then E1 segment should be created 5 times,
similarly if Field1 starts with 4 then E1 segment is created 6 times
And as many times E1 is created that many times the corresponding other E2,E3 segments are created
i.e E2 E3 has 1-1 relationship with E1
Can this be done graphically ?
Working on PI 7.0 Environment

Im pretty sure that if you duplicate the target segment the max number of times (6) but you only map to 4 of them, only 4 will be created in the target structure. Let the Mapping/Data drive how many segments actually get created in your target structure.
I could be wrong but Im pretty sure thats how Ive handled repeating segments before.

Copy text from multiple fields to one field

I would like to copy text from multiple fields into one field. Each of these smaller fields will only be allowed to have one character. The larger field will not be able to be edited.
So far, I have thought of creating a naming heirarchy for these fields. I was going to then call upon the array of the parent and set the value of the parent to equal this array.

The code sample you provided is using AcroForm scripting and will not work in this form. There is another post similar to this one...have a look at this one it might help you out. It is doing the opposite of what you want but the concept of the loop and how each field is addressed inside ofthe loop is what you wil need.

Batch export text from multiple Indesign files, applying em and strong tags

Hi there,
I am struggling for a while now with the following workflow:
batch exporting all text (text only) as plain text, from multiple Indesign files, applying and for all the bold and italics (for instance: Molluptas verion nossum idist doluptatet maiorerum quiaspienit, cum erferiosapis eos expe nonsequas verumquae dolor sim eos doluptatiur autet lab idicili beatum deliquat).
Properly tagging the styles, will be too time consuming, as these documents are as old as 1998, have inconsistent untagged styles; it will mean to manually open up each file, assign tags for all styles (not to mention that might be some local overwrites).
This task is necessary to have all the archive, available on wordpress website.
Any feedback would be much appreciated it.

There may well be a script or you may have pay someone to write it. All I can tell you is that any text not mapped to a style will be a mess in the HTML code.
Can’t comment on Quark files. I have no clue what they’re capable of.

How do I select text from multiple pdf pages using Microsoft Document Imaging

Hello. I have scanned 3 pages and saved to pdf, now in Microsoft Document Imaging I can only select text from the first page and cannot select text from the other 2 pages. Is there a way to select multiple pages?

Populating text in an idoc segment

Hi sap gurus,
I have extended ORDERS05 IDOC and i have one Zsegment as child under E1EDP01. This Zsegment has one field TXT(part number description). Now i have to populate PO/SA text notes in this segment. and if it exceeds 1000 bytes, then this should repeat. How to do this? Someone plz help.

Copy text from multiple cells

How do I copy the text (cell contents, not cell) in multiple cells (all at once)?
I am trying to cut and paste the text from a Numbers table (actually an Excel file opened in Numbers) to a text box in InDesign to create an InDesign table.
When I select multiple cells and Command 'C', I copy the cells not the content.
It was easy in Excel... but I am trying to avoid installing 'Office' on my new MacPro!
Help much appreciated.

It's handy sometimes to be able to copy cells from Numbers and paste them in other applications, where they appear just as they do in Numbers. Numbers does that well.
If you just want the content of the cells as text, you could use an AppleScript. That would not be complicated to write..
But first, does InDesign have an Edit > Paste Special (or similar) menu choice where you can tell it to accept the pasted material as unformatted text? One sees that in Word, for example:

How to Load Master Data Text from Multiple Source Systems

Situation: Loading vendor master (text) from two systems. Some of the vendor keys/number are the same and so is the description. I understand that if I was loading Attributes, I could create another attribute such a source system id and compound it to 0Vendor. However, I don't believe you can do the same when loading text.
Question: So, how can I load duplicate vendor keys and description into BW using the *_TEXT datasource so they do not overwrite?

Don't doubt, it'll work!
Sys ID as compound to 0Vendor.
If you doubt about predefined structure of the *_TEXT datasource and direct infosource, then use a flexible infosource. Maybe you'll have to derive the sys ID in a routine or a formula.

How can I have text from multiple fields on one layer, copy to one field on another layer?

A little help please as it's been years since I've done any coding of any sort.
So I have a 4 page document with various field types. I have a document script that gets "TodaysDate" that works perfectly and a few other scripts as well.
So what I'm trying to do is find a work around for the following:
I have 3 fields - SURNAME, FIRSTNAME & dob.
And I want what is typed into these fields to populate into 1 field. And according to this tutorial (http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-save-pdf-acrobat-javascript) it's not exactly possible. At least I think that's what it says.
However I'm hoping that maybe I could have a Submit button at the end of that document that when clicked would copy the text from those 3 fields (that I would have on 1 layer) into 1 field on a 2nd layer. Is that even possible??
I'd also like to have the document Print, Save (using the text in the field on the 2nd layer as the file name), Email (using the text in the field on the 2nd layer as the subject line) and Export to a specific Excel spreadsheet.
I don't want much do I?
I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro on a Windows PC but also have access to Acrobat 8 Professional. And I'm going to want the form to run in Acrobat Reader X.
So far I have for the 3 fields into 1 on another layer:

Sorry Gilad. I hope I'm not getting on your nerves (too much) but as I said it's been a while since I did any formal code. And I'm trying to do this code for a work document but I'm doing it in amongst so many other things I do for my job that it's difficult to get the time to concentrate for longer than 5 mins.
I didn't get a chance to try that code until just now. I guess I asked again as I thought (from what I'd read) that it wouldn't be that simple.
So I've added that code and I get no errors. But it doesn't appear to be doing anything either. I've added the code like this in the Custom calculation script of a separate field I've called FileName. And on the Button i'm using I've added: buttonClick()

What object do you need to load?
What exactly is in the file (what kind of data) ?
If it is a simple file with few fields, then i think a recording is the fastest methods. It does give you a detailed error log.
But all this depends on the file you have

Multiple idoc segment values to field fixed length FCC

I need help to resolve a mapping issue. here is the brief about the scenario.
Scenario: IDoc to Flat file Fixed length fields
Issue: Idocs has values in multiple segments. i need to check condition for each segment occurrence if value exists then pass value if not then pass constant (i have to pass constant so that i can get the actual column width after FCC)
Iam using the following logic.
If condition then value1 -> remove contexts -> split by value -> target
My scenario works fine for the above mapping however when i try introduction a constant in "if then else" then all my contexts in the target structure messes up.

Help with Automator to copy text from multiple files

I'm new to automator and applescript but it seems like what I'm trying to accomplish is fairly easy.
I'd like to run a workflow that will open a text file, copy the contents, paste the contents into a given application and then take a screenshot.
I'd like to be able to do this for several hundred text files.
I've tried with a Service but can't figure out how to provide the text input after "Get Specified Finder Items".
Get Specified Finder Items --> Get Contents of TextEdit Document --> Copy to Clipboard --> results in no data.

You'll need to use Applescript (you could use the Automator Run Applescript Action).
