Conditional Appearance of a Form Field

I'm creating a pdf order form for our products and their replacement parts.  My question is that I want some columns to remain blank if an item isn't being ordered.
Here's the design:
Col. 1: Item number/details - Static (this info is typed by me in the design and isn't changeable by the user).
Col. 2: Item Price - Static.
Col. 3: Order Quantity - Dynamic (completed by the user/customer).
Col. 4: Order Subtotal - Calculated (Col. 2 x Col. 3).  This is the column that I want to be blank if the customer is not ordering any of that particular item.  Right now, if the customer isn't ordering any of that item, they still see a $0.00 in the column and that's what I don't want.
Is there a way to have a field conditionally appear?  In other words, if Col. 3 is <1, Col. 4 should be completely empty and not even have a $0.00 in it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm using the Calculate function inside the Text Field Properties window.
I'm trying to make this form as simple as possible for the customer to use, using as few keystrokes as possible.  I'm also trying to make my form usable for both online ordering using the pdf and manual ordering (print it, fill it in by hand, and fax it to us). I don't want customers to do the math if I can make the software do it easily enough, plus I protect from math errors by having the software do it.
My issue is I want the Subtotal column (Col. 4 in my example above) to remain empty - completely blank - if they're not ordering that particular item.  However, by making the software do a calculation, it fills in column 4 with "$0.00" even if the quantity is either zero or empty.
By putting anything in that field for an un-ordered item, it makes the form unusable for manually ordering and difficult to see the forest for the trees for online ordering.  Just trying to clean it up.

  • How do I stop the + symbol from appearing in my form fields

    I've been using Acrobat 10 Pro for some time now to create and fill forms. Recently when I populate any field with data, a "+" symbol also shows up. I haven't a clue about what turned this on or how to turn it off. Please help! I need to get this batch of forms out.
    Mahalo

    It means that more text than can be displayed in the field is present. You can turn it off via a user preference: Edit > Preference > Forms > Show text field overflow indicator
    but it's better to make the field large enough or the font size smaller (or set to Auto) so it doesn't happen.

  • Form Field Appear on Value Entered

    I am running Coldfusion 9 and building a website using Dreamweaver from CS5.
    Is there a way to make a form field appear only if a certain value was entered into the previous form field? If so how? For example I am creating a registration page and one of the form fields is "Property Type" where the user can choose from "Residential, Commercial, Other" from a drop down menu and if the user chooses "Commercial" I want an additional field to pop up for the user to enter a value in "Company Name"??? Thanks for your help

    WolfShade,
    My apologizes for posting this question in the wrong forum. Since I have already started the discussion here I will ask you my question here still. I put in the lines of code you suggested however when I go to the drop down list and select "Commercial" no text input box appears for the Company Name field. If you have a min I will post my code below. Your help is very much appreciated. I should let you know I also tried adding the on change to the actual option tag for commerical i.e <option onChange...>Commercial</option> and still did not appear. I put the work area in red text hope it helps.

  • Form fields appear normal on my computer, but are too large on client's computer

    I recently created a fillable PDF using Acrobat Pro for a client. I have done this many times before, and never had any issues with formatting.  On my computer, the fields appear perfect, but on the client's computer they are too large and obscure the surrounding text.  Please see the first screenshot for reference. Notice the large white form field on the left side.  He has viewed the document both on a Mac (in Preview) and on a PC (Acrobat Reader) and had the same problem.   The following is a screenshot of the same file on my computer:
    On my computer, the name field appears to fill normally.  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks!
    Jeanne

    That person is using Preview and not Adobe Reader or Acrobat. Preview's support for PDF forms is dismal and it should not be used. It actually corrupts PDF forms (and other PDFs) in a number of ways, so that particular file should not be used again. If they don't want to install Reader, there's not much you can do.

  • How To Make A Tabular Form Field Conditionally Readonly

    Hello.
    I am using Apex 4.0.1. I've created a tabular form on the EMP table and have made the ENAME column a select list that is being sourced from a simple SELECT query like:
    select distince ename d, ename r from emp order by 1
    When a user selects "KING" as the value, I would like this ENAME field on this specific row in the tabular form to become readonly. If some other value is chosen from the ENAME drop down, then this ENAME field should remain "changeable".
    If the user clicks the "Add New Row" button on the form, a new row should be added to the bottom of the form with this ENAME field as "changeable". Only if the user selects the "KING" value from this ENAME drop down should this filed become readonly.
    Does anyone know how to go about doing this kind of conditional readonly on a tabular form field?
    Thank you for any help.
    Elie

  • Acrobat XI Windows 7 - unable to (copy and) paste form fields to a different pdf.

    To maintain a consistent appearance and function in the forms I create for various departments, I copy a few form fields  (text, checkboxes) from an unrelated Acrobat PDF. Then I paste those fields into a different PDF document that I am making fillable.
    I do this because Acrobat does not allow setting a default for certain attributes when creating form fields, i.e. an unchecked scroll option, a default font other than Helvetica (in Acrobat 8, 9, and X). Plus it is time-saving to copy and paste fields that are the same in another PDF, like name, address, phone. etc.
    We just updated to Acrobat XI and Windows 7 and now I cannot paste copied fields onto a different PDF.
    Using "replace pages" is not applicable as I am pasting to an entirely different form and copying form fields with the settings I use.
    Is this a glitch or is something new that was not in Acrobat 8, 9, and X?
    Also, question regarding this forum entry -  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5638333#5638333 - which is somewhat different from my current question.
    The PDF creator could not paste copied fields on other pages of the same PDF. Was this ever resolved so that copy and paste worked as it has for the last 3 versions of Acrobat?
    Thanks!
    Joanie

    Gilad:  You're right: when the fields are different, such as a checkbox and a text field, and you try to title them the same, Acrobat gives you a message. I received no messages, the field names are not the same or I missed one and Acrobat is no longer messaging about it.
    My question is different. Acrobat XI will not let me paste any field copied from a different PDF.  I've been doing that for 5 years in three different versions.  Maybe Acrobat XI has a new process for that, which I could not find in Acrobat help. Maybe it's because all forms now have extended rights automatically in Acrobat XI and there is another method to copy common fields to other PDFs.
    Any thoughts about the new Acrobat XI? It's different in many good ways, but different.
    Thanks for your ideas.

  • Set maximum size in Text Form Field Options for a field in bi publisher RTF

    Hi All,
    How to set maximum size in Text Form Field Options for a field in bi publisher RTF.
    I have a RTF whch is having a field in that i need to add some validation condition but after adding certain condition in Add help text tab ,it is not accepting after certain length, how i can increase the length to unlimited,please help me on this
    Thnaks

    Form fields have some restrictions if your are using version lower than 11g.
    They can accommodate only 393 chars. You can add the text in both status bar and help key, which can in total consume 393 chars.
    If your code logic is more than that, it can be split into multiple form fields as Avinash suggested or you can use sub template logic and handle coding over there. Again in sub template code can be within/outside form fields.
    So there is no option for user to increase the size of form field.

    Does anyone know how I can code a form so that when I select

  • Update all rows in a View Column via one Apex Form field

    Appreciate any helpful answers to this query.
    I have an Apex App (4.x) where I have a view: PRICE_MODEL_CRA_V
    In the view, I have the following applicable columns:
    COUNTRY
    GRADE
    SALARY
    In the form I have the following fields
    :P16_COUNTRY (DROPDOWN)
    :P16_GRADE (DROPDOWN)
    :P16_SALARY (Number)
    In my app, I have a form with an Update button. I am simply trying to get Apex to update all rows in the salaray column in the view, where the country and grade match.
    I've the following code for the Update button:
    UPDATE PRICE_MODEL_CRA_V
    SET SALARY = :P16_SALARY
    WHERE COUNTRY = :P16_COUNTRY
    AND GRADE = :P16_GRADE
    The option I have chosen in condition type is:
    Value of Item / Column expression is NOT Null (as there are values in the column)
    Also tried SQL Expression and it does not like..says that there is No Expression.
    Thanks again if anyone can help :)

    Hi,
    Sorry I realize now that piece of information was not well supported.
    If I choose SQL Expression for Condition Type in my Form Page and I try to Apply Changes
    Apex says this..
    •Failed to parse SQL query!
    ORA-00936: missing expression
    I was assuming that I need to have the colon for the items in the form where I am wanting Apex to grab the values entered by the user. I tried them without the colons with the SQL Expression condition and same result.
    UPDATE PRICE_MODEL_CRA_V
    SET SALARY = P16_SALARY
    WHERE COUNTRY = P16_COUNTRY
    AND GRADE = P16_GRADE
    I did put 1-1/0 in my expression field and applied changes and then tried ot submit the form and it does not produce an error, so perhaps it is not being called? Where would I start with troubleshooting that?
    Thanks,

    The form where this happens contains an email field as well as a password field, so it does have both of the fields that are on the login page. It is used to modify the details of the user of our site and is accessed by the administrators, not the users themselves. To auto fill the fax field (which is named _fax) with my email address is very strange. If I log in as a different admin user then the email address I use to login appears in the field. The password field is also appears on the form and is being populated, presumably with my password. How can Firefox get it wrong and put an entry in a field with a different name, and why that field and not other empty fields on the form?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    First be sure login and password are OK. Sometimes the address starts wit "http://..." and sometime starts with "ftp://...". Try both normal FTP access and Scure FTP access (SFTP). At the end, contact the site's provider.

  • A form field to insert white space

    Hi all,
    I need to insert some white space (the number of these white space is depending to some condition) in a form field.
    I show in my report a value and then I must complete this value with some white space to have finally a string with a fixed number of characters.
    I have a form field with a value (<?VALUE?>) and then I would insert a new form field to show only some white space. I can not add these white space directly on the field form containing the value.
    Thanks

    I would like to validate the below expression against the data in the column \S.* What is this expression and where did you get it from?
    I guess this pattern validates for non-whitespace characters. Anyone help me on this and explain what this pattern does?No in regular expression space is represented as [:space:]

  • In Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, how do I validate a form field so that it's numerical value is less than or

    I have one numerical field named "B," and I need to validate it so that it is less than or equal to the value of another field named "A." I can't figure out how to do that!

    OK, so the custom calculate script for field B could be something like:
    (function () {
        // Get field values as strings
        var sA = getField("A").valueAsString;
        var sC = getField("C").valueAsString;
        var sD = getField("D").valueAsString;
        // Only perform the calculation if all fields are filled
        if (sA && sC && sD) {
            var sum = +sC + sD;
            event.value = sum;
            // Alert the user if the sum is more than A
            if (sum > +sA) {
                app.alert("Error message goes here");
        } else {
            // Blank this field if all fields are not filled in
            event.value = "";
    Instead of (or in addition to) an app.alert popup, you could place this message in a read-only form field, and clear it if there is no error condition.
