Conditional region based on an application item

Hi All
I want control the display of a report region based on the value of a global item. The item is set to the strings 'TRUE' or 'FALSE'.
In the region I have tried pl/sql expresion :item = 'TRUE'
and also value of expression1 = expression2 and still no joy.
What am I doing wrong ?
TIA
Asif

Asif,
The first technique should work. The second should be 'Value of Item in Expression 1 equals Expression 2'.
Maybe you are checking the wrong case ('true' vs 'TRUE') or the application item has no value.

  • How to create a view in sql workshop depending on an application item value

    Hello,
    How coud I create a view in SQL worshop based on an application item value? For example select id, name
    from gg_provider
    where user = ' || :USER
    So basically each user would have it's own view. But it does not work like that. I think when I use :USER then the database takes database user not the user logged in to apex application. How would be possible to use application user to create the view?
    Thank you very much.

    Instead of
    :APP_USER
    use
    v('APP_USER')

  • Conditional Display based on Function and Application Item?

    I have a function within my DB that checks if the STAFF_ID (an application level item) is a "Super User" within my application. The function ("is_super-user") returns 1 if the STAFF_ID given is a Super User. (I am not using ApEx users/groups)
    How would I call this function within the Conditional Display of a button?
    I tried the following with no luck... (although it does not give me an error)
    Conditional Type: PL/SQL
    Expression 1: is_super_user(&STAFF_ID.)=1

    Matt is that you? You're not makin it real easy to identify you by name...
    The function ("is_super-user") returns 1...
    That should be is_super_user (without quotes, of course).
    Your previous attempt should have produced an error. But this should work:
    Conditional Type: PL/SQL
    Expression 1: is_super_user(:STAFF_ID)=1
    ...assuming the function has a varchar2 input parameter.
    And then to make it secure, you'll want to make that application item Restricted so nobody can pass in a value from the page. This kind of condition is a good use of authorization schemes which you can name/create once and attach to all sorts of components throughout the app. Speaking of other components, you should protect DML processes using the same condition/authorization scheme because just because there is no button visible on the page doesn't mean someone can't put one there and submit the page anyway.

  • Change template type of region based on item value

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to change a template type of a region based on value of page item?
    For example, if I have a template type for Region A as Hide/Show region and template type for Region B as Hide/Show as well.
    I want the template type of Region B to be changed to a custom template type based on the value of an item in Region A.
    Is this possible?
    Appreciate your inputs.

    Is this possible?No. You'd either need to have 2 instances of Region B based on different templates, and render one of them conditionally according to the Region A value; or develop a single template with a structure flexible enough to be used in both cases, and change its appearance/behaviour by for example, swapping classes in a Dynamic Action.

  • How to conditional display Report Region based on number of rows returned

    I have a page with two Report Regions.
    One Region should display if the Query returns 0-1000 rows. The other should display if the same Query returns more than 1000 rows.
    The only way I can figure out how to do this is have ANOTHER query in the conditions field for each Region to Select count(*) from etc.
    I know there is a #TOTAL_ROWS# value but that is only available after the Region is displayed. Is there some other built-in variable that can be used to put in the Conditions field or is doing duplicate SQL queries the only way?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Rather than running your query 4 times (by embedding it in your condition), you can have a region that is not displayed, with a hidden item, and set the value of the item in a before header computation to the count of your query. Now you can conditionally display based upon the value of that item.

  • Application Item Not Working as Bind Variable in Region Source

    I've created an application variable - APP_AC_CODE - a value for which - PA1 - I set as part of the column link on page A that branches to page B.
    I use APP_AC_CODE as part of a region title on page B - &APP_AC_CODE. Parameters - which evaluates successfully to 'PA1 Parameters'.
    However when I try to use APP_AC_CODE on the same page as part of the SQL query that drives the report for that region it fails to retrieve any records.
    If I set the region source to:
    SELECT idi FROM v_parameters WHERE aircraft_code = :APP_AC_CODE ;
    then it fails but if I explicitly state the where clause:
    SELECT idi FROM v_parameters WHERE aircraft_code = 'PA1' ;
    then it works just fine and retrieves the records as expected.
    If I check the session state then the right value is assigned to APP_AC_CODE; if I check debug then it shows the right value - binding: ":APP_AC_CODE"="APP_AC_CODE" value="PA1". Also, it displays fine as a substitution string.
    I'm very confused. I'll be very grateful if someone can shed a little light. I expect I'm doing something stupid - new user and all that - but I haven't got a clue what that is.

    Thanks for the reply Scott, but unfortunately I can't upload the app for business reasons. I appreciate that might make it impossible for you to diagnose the problem.
    I don't know if I'm making progress with the problem but I've tried adding a hidden page item, setting that value from page A and using it from page B with the same results. Check the session state, the debug messages, or use it as a substitution variable and the right value is there.
    I then tried setting the value of the page item with the value of the application item and (according to session and debug) the right value ends up in the page item. Still didn't work though.
    I then created a new page (using the sql report wizard in case I was doing something wrong manually) and tried using the application item in the same way with the same problem.
    Given that no records are being returned I assume that the database server doesn't care for the SQL query it sees. Is there a way of seeing what this is? When I look at the debug messages, all I see is 'parse query' and 'binding' messages. Any way I can see what the database server eventually sees?

  • How to Refer Application item in the html region

    Hi All,
    I have region which says 'Data was refereshed on 12-Apr-2010'. This is displayed in many pages. I want to reduce the manual work of going into each and every page and editing the date.
    I have created an Application Item in shared components. Can anyone help me how to refer this application item in the html region?
    Thanks,
    Vikas

    You can use the syntax of : &<ITEM_NAME>.
    i.e. say I have an application item MY_NAME , I would then have a html region which has the following
    <p>My name is &MY_NAME.</p>see: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e11838/concept.htm#BEICHBBG

  • Use of application Item with conditional validation

    Apex 3.2
    On a form, I have two lists :
    - Items TYPE contains A B C and D.
    - Item MANAGEMENT contains NULL, 1, 2 and 3.
    I want to validate that MANAGEMENT is not null only when the value in TYPE are A, B or C.
    I am using the condition "Value of Item in Expression 1 Is Contained within Colon Delimited List in Expression 2"
    I dont want to hard code these values (A B C) so I put them in an Application Item (I also need them somewhere else).
    If I use my application Item in the condition, the validation is not performed (I dont see it listed in debug mode.). If I use the real values (A B C), its working.
    Here's what I put in the Exp2 when using the application item :
    F126_CONST_BUSINESS_CASE:F126_CONST_PROJ_NON_PLANIFIE:F126_CONST_PROJ_PLANIFIE
    I also tried with the form v('F126_CONST_BUSINESS_CASE'): ...
    Any Idea ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Amelie,
    You should consider centralizing your validations inside a package. It will make your code much more readable. In many cases, you won't have to modify your application to modify a validation.
    If your validations are required across different pages, consider having a main package or build package a package for each module (page or page groups).
    The following condition for a validation is easier to understand than "Value of Item in Expression 1 Is Contained within Colon Delimited List in Expression 2".
    Condition Type PL/SQL Expression:
    p1_valdt_pkg.is_item_mangm_mandt(:P1_ITEM_TYPE,:P1_ITEM_MANAGEMENT)
    create or replace function is_item_mangm_mandt (pva_item_type in varchar2,
    pva_item_mangm in varchar2)
    return boolean is
    vbo_valdt boolean default true;
    vva_const_business_case varchar2 (30) default v ('F126_CONST_BUSINESS_CASE');
    vva_const_proj_non_planifie varchar2 (30) default v ('F126_CONST_PROJ_NON_PLANIFIE');
    vva_const_proj_planifie varchar2 (30) default v ('F126_CONST_PROJ_PLANIFIE');
    begin
    if pva_item_mangm is null
    and pva_item_type in (vva_const_business_case, vva_const_proj_non_planifie, vva_const_proj_planifie) then
    vbo_valdt := false;
    end if;
    return vbo_valdt;
    exception

  • Problem with application item and session state

    Okay, let's see if I can explain this problem coherently.
    I have a small app (one page), with an application item, F_WHERE_CLAUSE.
    This page has three regions in which there are items that the users can populate for search conditions. A couple of these items are "select list with submit" (I still need to upgrade to the AJAX method, I know). There is another region which has one hidden field, called P1_WHERE_CLAUSE. This field is defined to "Always, replacing any value in session state..." with source type of "Item (application or page.....", and a source value of F_WHERE_CLAUSE with no default value.
    I have a button called "Search" which submits the page and fires a PL/SQL process which builds a where condition based upon the other page items and stores the value to the application item F_WHERE_CLAUSE (correctly).
    For testing, I've made the P1_WHERE_CLAUSE field visible so that I can see what's going on. I've also clicked the debug and session buttons to help trace this. After I click the "Search" button and the page submits, debug shows:
    0.02: ...Session State: Save "P1_WHERE_CLAUSE" - saving same value: "1=1"
    followed later by:
    0.05: ...Session State: Saved Item "F_WHERE_CLAUSE" New Value="lower(primary_class) = 'rock' and country = 'Spain'"
    The field P1_WHERE_CLAUSE displays with the correct search criteria as signified by F_WHERE_CLAUSE above. However, If I click the "session" button to view the session state values, P1_WHERE_CLAUSE shows up as:
    P1_WHERE_CLAUSE Textarea    1=1    U while F_WHERE_CLAUSE displays the correct value still.
    The reason this "problem" came up, is that this page also has three SQL report regions which use &P1_WHERE_CLAUSE. for the where condition. While they display the correct results on-screen, each report region also has the "Export to csv" enabled, and the export seems to be using the "1=1" condition (from the "session" window) instead of the search criteria that the on-screen region is using (F_WHERE_CLAUSE and the displayed P1_WHERE_CLAUSE), resulting in a retreival of all records.
    Anybody have any idea what's going on and why, and how to get the csv export to use the correct value for the where condition?
    Thanks,
    Bill Ferguson

    It appears the "Export to CSV" functionality requires the item value to be set in session state. The P1_WHERE_CLAUSE item value never gets saved to session state. The page is rendered and the value is put in the item on the page but until you submit the page session state doesn't know what P1_WHERE_CLAUSE is.
    Create a before header computation or process to set the value of P1_WHERE_CLAUSE (which will save it to session state). It is interesting that the report regions didn't need to look at the value in session state but the "export to csv" does.

  • Setting the value of an Application Item (setting a global variable);

    In APEX 3.2.0.00.27, I need to initialize a global variable to 0 to implement a variable for testing to see if anything on the page has changed. Will update to 1 when certain select lists on the page are changed. Have read through some similar questions and replies within the forum as well as other blogs and sites. So, I believe what I am doing is the way to go about this. Unfortunately, my initialization of an application item/global isn't happening yet. here's a rundown of what has been implemented:
    1) created an application item, G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW in the shared components;
    2) created Javascript (JS) function called by addLoadEvent in the page html header region so when the page loads, the G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW global/application item should get set to 0 with the following JS and using AJAX and htmldb_GET:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function initVars()
    alert("before get initvars");
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,null,22);
    get.add('G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW', 0);
    gReturn = get.get();
    if(gReturn){
    alert(gReturn.value);
    get = null;
    alert("after get initvars");
    alert("before call to initpage");
    addLoadEvent(initVars());
    </script>
    I've used the htmldb_Get with success for populating other global variables and running On Demand Processes with onchange JS calls in the html form element attributes within select lists on the page. Afterwards, I can check the globals via the Session window and searching on Application Items. Unfortunately, I'm missing something because my G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW never gets populated when I load the page. The alerts all popup when the page is loaded, so I know the script is being executed when the page loads. the alert(gReturn.value) comes back undefined. And, needless to say, the G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW to 0 is not occurring.
    I've tried the htmldb_Get with it calling an application process and without (set to null). From what I've read, you shouldn't need to call an on demand process to have the get.add set the global variable. Then again, this could be where I'm going wrong. however, as I've mentioned, this works for other functions called from an onchange to populate an application item, but the page has already loaded when the onchange(s) get executed. They may work because the page is already loaded when the onchange is called. My point here is that my other On demand processes are NOT setting or changing the global variables at all. The globals are getting set with the get.add(<app item>, <value>) portion of my other JS functions within the HTML Header region. So, I'm inclined to believe that I don't need the 'application_process=<some_odp>' parameter set, but if that's not true, please let me know. if so, what would need to be in the on demand process--ie, what would be the purpose of the get.add(<application item>, <value>) if I set the global variable in the on demand process because that's the only thing I could think of doing within an on demand process for this?
    If somebody can point out what I'm not understanding or failing to do here, that would be great. I'm doing fine with APEX, but wouldn't consider myself a guru with it just yet. I'm definitely not a JS/AJAX guru, and when things like this go astray, I get bogged down because I'm not sure of the problem. So, I'm hoping you gurus who monitor this forum can get me going in the right direction.
    thanks,
    bob

    Hi Jari,
    Does that javascript work if you place it some of region footer on page 22 ?Yes. I cut it out of the html header of the page, and put it in the footer of the first region on the page. It initializes the variable. Putting it into the footer of the first region on the page should work for me instead of having an extra region on the page that's being picked up from page 0.
    Is your page 22 authentication public ?No. This particular page is set for an ADMINISTRATOR only. That said, I am logged in as an administrator. So, I cannot see why setting authentication should make a difference as long as I have that authentication/authorization. Also, there will be other pages where I want to use this script or a similar script, but again, those pages will not be open to the public. the authentication will be "role" based where a user will not necessarily have to be an administrator, but they will have to have a certain role to access the page. Is there a known problem or something that precludes a html header JS script from doing an addloadevent when authentication is NOT public?
    thank you,
    bob

  • Dynamic action - show/hide region based on LOV which returns ID

    Hi folks,
    this should be simple, so someone who works with dynamic actions.
    I have a LOV which is based on below query:
    select OBJECT_ID, KOD

    retuns:
       ID          KOD
        492961 BMW
        492964 VOLVO
        492960 MERCEDES
        492963 VOLKSWAGEN
        492959 SKODAItem :P200_KOD is based on LOV which displays KOD and returns ID.
    On my page I have also 1 region called TEST_REGION.
    I would like to set up a dynamic action shich will SHOW/HIDE a TEST_REGION based on selected value in item :P200_KOD (LOV). Region should be showed if displayed (KOD) value of selected ID starts with 'V%'
    By other words, if below query returns any record, then SHOW, else HIDE:
       select *
        from x_data x
      where x.kod like 'V%'
         and x.object_id = :P200_KOD;How should I define a triggering condition for dynamic action, for item :P200_KOD?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    One way:
    Create advanced dynamic action.
    Name : Hide region
    Event : Change
    Selection Type : Item(s)
    Items(s) : P200_KOD
    Condition : JavaScript Expression
    Value :
    $(this.triggeringElement).children("option:selected").html().substring(0,1) !== "V"Action : Hide
    Fire On Page Load : True
    Hide all page items on the same line : No
    False Action : Show
    Fire On Page Load : True
    Show all page items on the same line : No
    Selection Type : Region
    Region : TEST_REGION

  • PAGE RADIO BUTTONS and APPLICATION ITEM VALUE

    I have several pages that use same radio button group that permits filtering the report query (of course on each page, it is a page level radio button item).
    I created an application item value to hold the last used value of a radio button item.
    On login, I would like the application item value set to a default value.
    For a given page using the recurring radio button group item,
    I would like the radio button item value set to the application item value on entry into a page.
    I would like the report to use the application item value on entry to a page.
    I would like the application item value be updated anytime the page level radio button item value is changed, so that when you move to another page,
    the next radio button group and report can use the last selected radio group button value.
    I am trying to use a variety of solutions in COMPUTATION and CONDITIONAL COMPUTATION... to include use of set_session_state procedure, and I am not getting desired result, partial success, but not complete.
    Can you have a computation item that is only for initialization of the report and radio button group on page entry?
    And a separate computation item that senses user selection of another radio button, updating the report, and updating the application level item?
    Help requested. Thank you.
    Would be nice to have application level objects, like radio button groups.

    Created Page 0
    Created an HTML region in COLUMN 2 and SEQUENCE 10.
    Selected under region CONDITION:
    Current Page is contained within Expression 1 as comma delimited list of pages
    in the EXPRESSION 1 provided the requested comma delimited list of pages that I wished the HTML region to appear.
    Created the radio button group item P0_RADIO and assigned to Page0 HTML region.
    Selected under item CONDITION:
    Current Page is contained within Expression 1 as comma delimited list of pages
    in the EXPRESSION 1 provided the requested comma delimited list of pages that I wished theradio button group to appear.
    In SHARED COMPONENTS I created an APPLICATION COMPUTATION
    In the computation I created a PL/SQL function to initialize the radio group
    BEGIN
    IF :P0_RADIO IS NULL THEN
    RETURN 'A_ALL';
    ELSE
    RETURN :P0_RADIO;
    END IF;
    END;
    'A_ALL' being the default value for :P0_RADIO
    Radio group appears on the desired pages, is initialized to the desired default value, and works properly on each page.

  • Setting application items through javascript

    Is there any way to modify application items using javascript? I would work with page items, but I need something that is guaranteed to be in the session state.

    Oh yes, I know that. Well here's the exact problem (I've posted threads on it from a couple different angles previously):
    - I am trying to open a popup with a report region such that I can send a query to the popup some how, without doing a page submission of the parent page.
    - The current method I am using is to send the query by URL, but I'm reaching the limit of URL length, and it's not a particularly secure solution.
    - My latest idea was to pass-by-reference (what this thread is about), but this presented a couple of problems.
    1) I could set a parent page item dynamically by JS, but the only way I know of loading the information automatically in the popup is using onLoad -- but that's too late.
    2) I could use session state, but I risk Region condition: javascript is enabled?, page session items are not set until a page is submitted, and application session items are not accessible by JS.
    I was thinking that maybe there is some way of accessing browser session state with JS, but I guess not....

  • Getting Application Items to work with login

    I'm relatively new to Apex, so I've been creating numerous sample applications. In my latest one, I've been working on custom security schema and it's been working great for the most part. The one issue I'm having is passing login values into my application items. Though I don't receive any error messages or anything, upon checking the value of the application items via the session button, they never contain anything. The code I have in place on my login page is as follows:
    begin
    select username, user_id
    into :F56_USER_NAME, :F56_USER_ID
    from GS_USERS
    where username = lower( rtrim( ltrim( :P101_USERNAME ) ) );
    exception
    when others then null;
    end;
    wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.login(
    P_UNAME => :P101_USERNAME,
    P_PASSWORD => :P101_PASSWORD,
    P_SESSION_ID => v('APP_SESSION'),
    P_FLOW_PAGE => :APP_ID
    Does anybody know why or why not this wouldn't be working? I appreciate the help!

    Regards,Cheers, this was the solution. I was able to at least see the proper error and address it this way. The exception section I wrote was actually based on a tutorial online, so I'm curious as to why others use that if it's essentially of no use when errors arise. Regardless, my solution is fixed. Thanks!Good question: I guess it comes down to your acceptance of Rumsfeld doctrine. IMO there are potentially places where you can legitimately use the "WHEN OTHERS" exception clause e.g. if you want to quietly capture an exception and not have it bubble all the way up to the user interface in an uncontrolled manner.
    That is predicated on these conditions:
    1. You have already attempted to anticipate and handle (where appropriate) "known" exceptions first e.g. a no_data_found exception in conjunction with a SELECT ... INTO statement
    2. Your program/application is able to gracefully deal with "unknown unknown" exceptions or is otherwise unaffected
    3. You record the mystery exception in some meaningful manner (e.g. a debug log) that will allow you to trace it back to source
    The above conditions being true are usually quite rare though. Even then, I would be wary of using it in a very low-level routine as the deeper an exception occurs (and is captured), the less context you have to describe what happened. If I ever use this clause, its near the "top" of my code (indeed, often only in Apex Page/Application Process level).
    It's worth taking 5-10 minutes to have a read through the exception handling advice in the PL/SQL Language reference.

  • Application Item doesn't seem to be populated upon page submit

    I have an application item (P_OLO_CODE) which is suppose to be populated by a Page Process (on Submit and Once Per Page Visit) with the given code:
        IF :P27_OLO_CODE != -1 THEN
          :P_OLO_CODE := :P27_OLO_CODE;
        END IF;Once the page process executes, the branch to another page is suppose to execute. The branching page then utilizes the P_OLO_CODE application item in a Computation as part of its Page Rendering. However, it does not seem to be used the first time around. If I go back to the originating page and re-submit the page (after selecting a different value in the LOV to populate P_OLO_CODE), it then seems to work because the page being branched to then displays the report results based on the value that was selected. I'm not sure why it was not used the first time around. Any ideas?

    Thank you for the suggestion. It appears that the value is being saved to session state, and the problem seems to be elsewhere. What I'm trying to do is create a dynamic report based on the value selected in the parent page. If the user selects a value, this value populates the Application Item, which is then used in a Computation in Page Rendering on the branched page. The computation takes this value and populates a page item which is used as a lexical parameter in the report region query.
    Example:
    Page Item Name: P63_AND_CONDITION
    Report Region SQL query:
    SELECT UPPER(t1.olo_name) agency_title,
           t1.class_code,
           UPPER(t1.class_title) class_title,
           t1.pay_plan,
           t1.pay_grade_code,
           COUNT(t1.appt_fte) total_employees,
           SUM(t1.appt_fte) filled_fte,
           AVG(DECODE(t2.pay_cycle_code,
                      'UB',((t1.wage_type1_amt_for_pay * 26)/t1.appt_fte),
                      'UM',((t1.wage_type1_amt_for_pay * 12)/t1.appt_fte),
                       0)) avg_annual_rate
       FROM table1 t1,
            table2 t2
      WHERE t1.pos_wk = t2.pos_wk
        AND t2.pos_rate_active_flag = 'Y'
        AND t1.ops_ind = 'N'
        AND t1.employee_type IN ('1','2')
        *&P63_AND_CONDITION.*
      GROUP BY UPPER(t1.olo_name),
               t1.class_code,
               UPPER(t1.class_title),
               t1.pay_plan,
               t1.pay_grade_code
    ORDER BY t1.class_code ASC, avg_annual_rate)The Computation fires "Before Header" to set the value of P63_AND_CONDITION page item. This page item is used as a "lexical" parameter.
    DECLARE
      v_sql VARCHAR2(2000);
    BEGIN
      IF :P_OLO_CODE IS NOT NULL THEN
        v_sql := ' AND t1.olo_code = '||v('p_olo_code');
      END IF;
      RETURN v_sql;
    END;
