Setting application items through javascript

Is there any way to modify application items using javascript? I would work with page items, but I need something that is guaranteed to be in the session state.

Oh yes, I know that. Well here's the exact problem (I've posted threads on it from a couple different angles previously):
- I am trying to open a popup with a report region such that I can send a query to the popup some how, without doing a page submission of the parent page.
- The current method I am using is to send the query by URL, but I'm reaching the limit of URL length, and it's not a particularly secure solution.
- My latest idea was to pass-by-reference (what this thread is about), but this presented a couple of problems.
1) I could set a parent page item dynamically by JS, but the only way I know of loading the information automatically in the popup is using onLoad -- but that's too late.
2) I could use session state, but I risk Region condition: javascript is enabled?, page session items are not set until a page is submitted, and application session items are not accessible by JS.
I was thinking that maybe there is some way of accessing browser session state with JS, but I guess not....

  • Set application item from javascript?

    Hi!

    dvenus1,
    Sure. In the script below I check variables and populate based on what I find...
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function Populate_fld()
    var formVehicle = document.getElementById('P9_HIDE_VEHICLE').value;
    var formState = document.getElementById('P9_HIDE_STATE').value;
    var formTag = document.getElementById('P9_HIDE_TAG').value;
    var formName = document.getElementById('P9_HIDE_NAME').value;
    document.getElementById("P9_VEHICLE").value = formVehicle;
    document.getElementById("P9_TAG").value = formTag;
    document.getElementById("P9_STATE").value = formState;
    document.getElementById("P9_VISITOR_NAME").value = formName;
    if (formState = " ")
    document.getElementById("P9_STATE").value = "FL";
    </script>

  • Using value of application item in javascript

    Hello All,
    Apex 3.1
    I have a javascript that calls an application process, please see below. In the application process I have logic to set/change the value of an application item. Later in the javascript I need to set a page item to the value of the application item which was set in the application process. Any alerts that I post during the javascript show this value as blank, even though a similar HTP.prn in the application process displays the value!. After the script completes the correct value of the application item is in session state . Can someone explain this timing issue to me? Why can't I get the value of an application item in the javascript when the application process is called from the javascript?
    Is there a simple workaround here for me to get this value?
    <script>
    function f_ValidateLinkLine(pThis) {
       // The row in the table
       var vRow = pThis.id.substr(pThis.id.indexOf('_')+1);

    Hi,
    When you use application item in JavaScript like you do, string &F101_QUOTE_LINE_ID. is substituted by item value from session state.
    Changes to that item value when you call On Demand process do not affect to page.
    Lets take example,
    You app item F101_QUOTE_LINE_ID value is e.g. XX in session state.
    You run page and see page source it looks like this
    html_GetElement('f37_'+vRow).value =('XX');Kind you have hard code value to JavaScript.
    Nothing will change that unless you refresh page.
    You need return value from On Demand process.
    To set value code could look like then
    html_GetElement('f37_'+vRow).value = gReturn;Regards,

  • Issue with Setting Application Item

    Hi All,
    I have an issue with setting the value of application item G_USER_ID as part of the login process.
    I use customized authentication for login. I have created an application item G_USER_ID, and in my CUSTOM_AUTH procedure, I am setting its value as APEX_UTIL.SET_SESSION_STATE('G_USER_ID', l_user_id);
    For some reason, the value is not set to G_USER_ID the first time I login. When I log out and login again without closing the browser, the value is set. Note that I even tested with a static value instead of l_user_id like APEX_UTIL.SET_SESSION_STATE('G_USER_ID', '5555555'); but still fails to set during the first login.
    I hope someone can guide me as to what I am doing wrong here.
    Thanks!

  • Setting Application Item On New Instance problem

    Trying to set several application items using application computations set to fire On New Instance (ie. new login). None of them are firing on a new login.
    I did successfully fire them when I made page rendering computations after the header, but when I move them to Application level Computations set to ONI nothing fires. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    You could have the main menu page include a before-header process to do the following:  IF :COMPUTATIONS_COMPLETE is null then
          <do all your computations>
          :COMPUTATIONS_COMPLETE := 'Y';
      END IF;[pre]
    ..where COMPUTATIONS_COMPLETE is an application item.

  • Modifying File Browse item through Javascript

    I would like to modify the value of a File Browse item with javascript in my Submit button under certain circumstances. I would like to remove the file name (and path) from the File Browse field, so that the file is not automatically uploaded when the Submit button is pressed. It would seem I could "null" out the filename within the javascript function and then follow that with doSubmit ('SUBMIT'). The rest of the page values would be posted to the database, but the file would not get loaded. However, I cannot figure out how to access and modify the filename in the File Browse field with javascript. I've tried using ".value" and ".src" but to no avail. Saw a thread that says there is a bug with File Browse items in versions earlier that 2.2 (I'm using 2.0), and that you needed to fall back on the "p_t xx" notation, but I can't find any information on what that is. Appreciate any help.

    I apologize for the multiple threads. The response to my initial inquiry on thread Inserting/uploading data without inserting/uploading a document was that "others" would be better equipped to help me than the initial responder, so I didn't think I was supposed to continue with that thread. (Haven't used this forum much.) I found a second thread (the one with the "p_tXX" notation, and responded to it, but wasn't sure if all older threads were still active, so I also iniitiated a thread on my own.
    In response to the inquiry about why not using an after submit computation to null out the File Browse item, what I am trying to prevent is the uploading of a file to the WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECT$ table, if there is an entry in my File Browse item, when all the user really wants to do is update some data items on the main portion of the page. I have a Apply Changes button on the main data entry form, and then I also have (at my user's request) a separate form and Submit button on the page where the user may enter a file name to upload. The trouble exists when the user is only trying to modify data in the main form, but has also left an entry in the File Browse item. When the page is submitted, the data is uploaded OK, but the file is also uploaded via HTMLDB_APPLICATION_FILES, since there is an entry in the File Browse item. What I'm trying to do, is clear that File Browse item out when the user presses the main form Apply Changes button, so that the file does not get uploaded. The users want the ability to upload a file, but only when that is their direct intent. Obviously, I do not want to clear out the File Browse item under those circumstances. Hope this is clear; sometimes difficult to satisfy the users needs (whims?). Appreciate any help.

  • Generic proceeding for setting application item's value from javascript?

    For the moment, all I can think of is a javascript function calling an on-demand process that looks like this:
    function setVariableValue(pName, pValue){
    var gReturn;
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=odpSetVariableValue',0);
    get.addParam('x01',pName);
    get.addParam('x02',pValue);
    gReturn = get.get();
    get = null;
    odpSetVariableValue
    begin
    execute immediate ':' || wwv_flow.g_x01 || ' := ' || wwv_flow.g_x02;
    end;
    Is there an APEX function to do it without "execute immediate"?
    Igor

    Hello Igor,
    I think you can do the same thing without actually executing a PL/SQL Process (look here for an example).
    function setVariableValue(pName, pValue){
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=dummy',0);
    get.add(pName, pValue);
    var gReturn = get.get();
    get = null;
    (The Application Process dummy doesn't really exists...).

    Hi Arnau,
    You need to surround your JavaScript code like this (without the spaces before and after script):
    < script language="Javascript">

  • Example of setting page item using javascript

    Does anyone have an example of setting the value of a page item (hidden) using javascript? I have seen the following in the Forum but I am having trouble implementing it. If someone could show an example of a region it is called from, and the javascript (and where it is placed), that would be great.
    I have tried something similar to this without luck so far:
    function setValue(){
    $x('P1_FIELD').value = 'Oracle';
    Thanks!

    Hi VS,
    you should really use a "Set Value" dynamic action for that, that's much more transparent than using the onclick definition in the button attributes.

  • How to read application item's value using  javascript

    Is there any way to read value of application item using javascript?
    Thanks

    Javascript can access the objects rendered for the page you are calling. This is why the $v function will do the work if calling it for a page item. However an application item isn't rendered on the page - the session state of it is only stored in the table. This is why you need to do it the way I described. You could do a workarround and create a hidden item on your page and compute the value of it using the application item value. Then you would be able to get the value of your application item using $v function.

    I believe I answered you in here - Re: once more...4 cascading LOVs, 3rd is hidden 4th no longer works However, for future reference…
    You don’t have a direct access to an application item, using JavaScript, because application items don’t render on page. You can, however, using the AJAX framework to do that, using the add() method. The generic code I’m using is the following:
    <script type=”text/JavaScript”>
    function setSessionValue(pItem, pValue) {
      var get = new htmldb_Get(null,html_GetElement('pFlowId').value,null,0);
      get.add(pItem, pValue);
      get.get();
      get = null;
    </script>This code can set any page or application item value.

    Arie.
