Conditional try statement

Greetings, all. I'm trying to create a loop that is conditional on the successful completion of a try statement. It'd look something like this:
try
Close Tab in Safari
end try
if (try worked)
run an application
loop from beginning of try
else
end loop
Any suggestions on how to code this?
Cheers,

If you have tabs enabled, you can "sorta" script tabs. Here are two examples
tell application "Safari"
activate
repeat
set oneURL to URL of the front document
if oneURL is not in theURLs then
set end of theURLs to oneURL
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "}" using {command down}
else
exit repeat
end if
end repeat
end tell
-- If you want to close the window with multiple tabs showing then uncomment the line below
--tell application "System Events" to keystroke "w" using {shift down, command down}
theURLs
and to create new tab, the same trick:
tell application "Safari"
activate
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "t" using {command down}
end tell

  • How to Dynamically construct the conditional IF statement in java

    Is there a way to dynamically construct a conditional IF statement in java?
    For example:
    Suppose i have a 2D array like:
    Array[the actual values to search for][the column number in the table to perform the search on].
    e.g.
    Array {
                 {"x"} , {1},
                 {"y"} , {2},
                 {"z"} , {3},
    }How can i construct the if statement like:
    Looping over table rows (tableRow) {
        Looping over array {
            IF ( {"x"}. equals( tableModel.getValueAt( tableRow, {1})   &&
                   {"y"}. equals( tableModel.getValueAt( tableRow, {2})   &&
                   {"z"}. equals( tableModel.getValueAt( tableRow, {3})  )
            return true;
    }The array can grow or shrink based on the values in it so therefore IF statement will grow or shrink. How can i achieve it?
    If not then how can i achieve this?

    My understanding (feeble at best) is that a sieries of && elements will be evaluated in order until the first false value is encountered. So, in an "if a && b && c" statement where b is false c will never be evaluated and the conditional executable will not run. Is that what you mean?
    Yes, logical expressions will not evaluate unnecessary operands. So you can safely write the following, for instance, without getting an error,
    if ((anArray != null) && (anArray.length > 0)) { ... }because the second operand of the '&&' will never be evaluated if 'anArray' is null.
    Also, is there a difference between & and &&?
    & is a bitwise operator, && is a boolean operator.

  • Exception not being thrown in try statement

    I am trying to write a small program to handle exceptions. However, the program will not compile because it is giving me an error saying the exception InvalidDocumentCodeException will never be thrown in body of coresponding try statement. Here are the two programs:
    public class InvalidDocumentCodeException extends Exception {
    InvalidDocumentCodeException (String message) {
    super(message);
    and
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class Main2 {
    // Creates an exception object and possibly throws it.
    public static void main (String[] args) {
    char designation;
    String input = null;
    int valid = 0;
    Scanner scan = new Scanner (System.in);
    System.out.print ("Enter a 2-digit designation starting " + "\n" +
    "with U, C, or P, standing for unclassified, " + "\n" +
    "confidential, or proprietary: ");
    input = scan.nextLine();
    try {
    designation = input.charAt(0);
    if(designation == 'U')
    valid++;
    else if(designation == 'C')
    valid++;
    else if(designation == 'P')
    valid++;
    else if(designation == 'u')
    valid++;
    else if(designation == 'c')
    valid++;
    else if(designation == 'p')
    valid++;
    catch (InvalidDocumentCodeException problem) {
    System.out.println("Invalid designation entered " +
    problem);
    System.out.println ("End of main method.");
    can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here?

    Forgive me, This is the first time I have used this sight and I should have been more precise. Thanks for all the help, but this is an excercise in how to handle exceptions in Java. One way is to "throw" the exception to another class to be handled. The other is to handle the exception within the running class. The throws program That I have works. The problem that I am having is handling the exception within the class without coding the "throws" statement. I am supposed to use the try-catch method in doing this. In the example I was given to follow, the code did not specifically throw the exception. If the input was not handled in the processing code then the catch statement is supposed to call to the exception class somehow?Okay, there are two families of exceptions--checked and unchecked.
    Checked: These are for things that are not part of the "happy path" of your code, but that your code may reasonably be expected to deal with. They're not necessarily signs of a bug in your code, nor do they indicate a problem in the JVM that's beyond your control. They're for things like when a file you're looking for doesn't exist (so maybe you handle it by asking the user to pick a different file), or a network connection being lost (so maybe you handle it by waiting a few seconds and trying again).
    When a checked exception occurs, since it's an expected and recoverable occurrence, you're expected to deal with it. So, when one of these exceptions can occur in your method, your method is required to either a) handle it (with catch) or b) let the caller know that HE might be asked to deal with it.
    We must either handle it:
    void doFileStuff(String path) {
      try {
        do file stuff
      catch (IOException exc) {
        retry--which means the whole try catch would be in a loop
        or maybe just substitute some default values that don't have to come from a file
    }Or let our caller know that he's going to have to handle it (or pass it on to his own caller):
    void doFileStuff(String path) throws IOException) {
      // this might throw an exception, but it's not this method's job to handle is, so it bubbles up to our caller
      do file stuff;
    Unchecked: These are things that are either bugs in your code (like a NullPointerException) or serious problems with the JVM that are beyond our control (like OutOfMemoryEror). These can occur anywhere, and it's not generally our code's job or our caller's job to deal with them, so they don't need to be caught or declared like checked exceptions do. You can catch them, and there are some places where it's appropriate to do so, but leave that aside for now.
    Unchecked exceptions are RuntimeException, Error, and every class that descends from them. Checked exceptions are everything else under Throwable, and Throwable itself.
    Now, when you do
    void foo() throws SomeException {You're telling the compiler that this method might throw that exception.\
    If SomeException is a checked exception, the compiler is able to tell whether your claim that you might throw it is true. Since it's checked, every method that might throw it must declare it. So the compiler can look at all the methods you call and see if they throw SomeException. If none of them do, and you don't explicitly put throw new SomeException(...); in your foo() method, then the compiler can be absolutely sure that there's no way foo() will throw SomeException. So it won't let you claim to throw it.
    On the other hand, is SomeException is unchecked, then since methods aren't required to report the unchecked exceptions they can throw, the compiler has no way of knowing whether some method you call might throw SomeException, so it always lets you declare it (and never requries you to).

    Is the problem because of different version of Application server OC4J?.Is it any fix for this? Or Can anyone please suggest a work around. Or is there a method by which the JSP generated code is split between different try - catch blocks rather than a single try-catch block.Utlimately We don't know the whether is it a problem with JVM or hardware .
    It would be really helpful if you would provide me with some suggestion and input.
    Regards
    Shyam

    Sir,
    I am aware of the limitations of JVM that it won't allow java code more than 64Kb in method but we are using different versions of Application server .Application is working okay with OC4J application server(10.1.2.0) but gives error on Application server with version 9.0.4.0. Is this a problem with OC4J application server 9.0.4.0. I had gone through the documentation ofOC4J 9.0.4.0.application server but it does not mention about the this bug/fixes.
    Please giude me on the same.

  • Error in jsp:Code too large for try statement

    Hi friends,
    When i try to run a jsp program i am getting error "code too large for try statement". How can i rectify it rather than truncating that jsp? is there another way?
                                                  Basha

    Basha,
    When we were implenting an e-form component which was very big, the only way we were able to achieve it was by
    "jsp includes". In the main form simply included muliple
    jsp pages, where each was a section of the e-form.
    we have not found any other better way.
    Hope this helps.

    I am currently running this on Websphere Aplication Developer 5. First off I'm hoping that this error will go away when it is deployed to tomcat. But I wanted to see if anyone has had this problem and knows of a tweek or work around for it.
    The jsp in question is not the longest one I have... but it has a large number of drop down list boxes .. using jstl <select><option>. and the drop downs have around 40 or 50 items in them.

    in weblogic 8.1, i've met the same error, and solved the problem by adding param to weblogic.xml , like below:
      <jsp-descriptor>
         <jsp-param>
              <param-name>noTryBlocks</param-name>
              <param-value>true</param-value>

  • Code too large for try statement - help :(

    Please help :(
              We are migrating our project from an older technology, Kiva from netscape
              (and about time we migrate) . Kiva uses template evaluation similar to
              jakarta velocity. So the fastest way we found was to translate kiva
              templates to JSPs via perl script. All is working fine except a bunch of
              JSPs which are too large for the compiler to handle. If we were not
              migrating and instead wroking from scratch we would have simply made the
              JSP's size smaller and used jsp:include, but in this case it will involve a
              lot of effort as that means changing a lot of business code.
              Basically what we get is "code too large for try statement". Is there anyway
              we can tell weblogic to put smaller code fragments in try/catch when it
              converts a JSP into java code.

              Haider,
              Have you seen the following Sun Bug Parade posting
              http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4210912.html
              Additionally, you may want to try the '-noTryBlocks' jsp compiler switch and see
              if it makes a difference

  • This exception is never thrown from the try statement body

    try {

              } catch (FileNotFoundException fnfe) {
                   System.out.println("");
              }This is part of a method, if that helps. In Eclipse I get the error message "Unreachable catch block for FileNotFoundException. This exception is never thrown from the try statement body." I saw another post similar to this one, but it's not quite clear what the solution is. Could anyone clarify for a beginner?
    Thanks

    It actually does if the file it's opening is not really a text file, or if it's read-protected. Or is that where I'm going wrong? I'm just trying to open the file's name(already in the field) and know that it is .text or will return the error.

                   itemNumber = itn;
                   itemNum = itnum;
                   //itemQuantity = itq;

              itemQuantity = Integer.parseInt(quantity.getText());
              itemPrice = itemQuantity * 2;
              price.setText(String.valueOf(itemPrice));
              catch(OrderException e2)
              //DOES NOT LIKE OrderException
              //says we did not throw OrderException in try statement
              //when run with a JAVA Exception, like NumberFormatException
              //program runs
                   System.err.println("Invalid Item Number or Quantity");
                   //itemPrice = itemQuantity * 2;
    any thoughts/suggestions??

    I'm not sure what you are asking. Can you please
    eloborate? I have a class named Order that I am
    trying to throw my exception if the itNum is <=111 or
    =999. I'm not sure what you mean...
    Throwing an exception is a property of a function or a constructor, not of a class. So if you don't use the constructor of the class Order in your try-statement no OrderException can be thrown.

    You don't. Each method has an absolute limit on the number of byte codes. You have reached that limit. The limit is part of the specification and JVMs will refuse to run classes that exceed the limit. So even if you could compile it, it wouldn't run.
    It is quite common for code generators to generate large monolithic blocks of code. Presumably this is how you got to this spot. Modify the code generator to break it into smaller blocks.
    If you did it manually then you did it wrong. And you will have to manually break it into smaller blocks. (And re-examine your design since it is probably wrong.)

    Hi Chintan,
    Try doing copy pasting the below code, you have to hit the tab or space after try or except to create its block and keep an eye on the alinement's of it.
    try:
         save()
         activate(block="true")
         print "script returns SUCCESS"
    except:
         save()
         cancelEdit(defaultAnswer="y")
         print "Error while trying to connect to server !!!"
         print "Unexpected error: ", sys.exc_info()[0]
         dumpStack()Also I made the alinement's properly and the script is running properly with out any error.

  • JSPX: code too large for try statement try

    I'm migrating an application from Tomcat 5 to OC4J 10.1.3.2 and I'm getting the following error in a JSPX file.
    8770
    [jsp src:line #:931]
    code too large for try statement try {
    This isn't an issue in Tomcat because of the way jasper creates the .java file. OC4J creates one really long _jspService method.  Is there anything I can do short of rewriting the page to fix this?  Let me know if further information is required.

    I have created bug 6152265 to track this.

  • Performing a Sum on a Conditional if statement (in Business Objects)

    Post Author: Rhonda Jackson
    CA Forum: Formula
    I have been trying to debug a sum statement that evaluates a code (for example 0001) which then maps the corresponding dollar amount to a new column.  This part is working.  Unfortunately when I try to sum the values in the new column with the mapped values that meet the criteria, I receive a syntax error at the second If statement.  Any assistance of suggestions would be appreciated.  I have tried Sum(If....) and it still provides a syntax error.  Here is a sample of the code.
    =If(&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0001";&#91;Acct - Sum Loan Amount X-collateral&#93;; If(&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0003";&#91;Acct - Sum Loan Amount X-collateral&#93;;If(&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0008";&#91;Acct - Sum Loan Amount X-collateral&#93;;If(&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0009";&#91;Acct - Sum Loan Amount X-collateral&#93;;If(&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0010";&#91;Acct - Sum Loan Amount X-collateral&#93;; If(&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0011";&#91;Acct - Sum Loan Amount X-collateral&#93;;If(&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0012";&#91;Acct - Sum Loan Amount X-collateral&#93;;If(&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0014";&#91;Acct - Sum Loan Amount X-collateral&#93;;"0"))))))))

    Where is your sum located ? Where is your mapped value  located? Here are some shooting in the dark that might light a bulb.I assume you are using Crystal 9 or above. You might want to try running total. For each code EG. 0001 you would create running total that looks like this You
    would select field you want to sum ( eg. dolar value) then you would
    click on formula icon "x-2" in evaluate section and type something like
    this. (&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;="0001"Then put  running total in  in the footer. Create text box and type something like this "SUM OF "TEXT BOX -
    SUM OF 0001 = your running total you made (e.g.RT0001) Repeat steps 1 and 2 for rest of the codes. ALTERNATIVE**** You might want to consider this approach also.Create a group base on (&#91;Acct - Account Purpose Code&#93;) created field. You would create a formula. And then put it in the detail section. Select it and make it a group. Then you can have sums per group.
