Configuring Mac Mini to automatically play QT file on startup

I'm trying to configure a new Mac Mini 2.3GHz running Lion to function as a very dumbed down media player for a video art piece which is being installed at a client's office. Basically, I'd like to configure it so that from 7:30am-7:30pm it continuously loops a specific ProRes 422 HQ Quicktime file in full screen mode. Ideally it would then sleep from 7:30pm to 7:30am at which point it would wake and immediately start playing the file again. If the machine were ever restarted I'd also like it to automatically start playing that QT file. The goal is to minimize the amount of intervention required by the client. I already know how to configure the OS to sleep on a schedule and also how to make a QT file loop and play in full screen mode. Any thoughts anyone might have as to how best to accomplish this would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks!

It is possible to add the line
     Present document 1
before the play command to get it to play full-screen.
To summarise you configure the Mac to turn on and off at the times you want, you configure it to auto-login as a user, and you configure that user account to run a version of my AppleScript.

    I have a pansonic 14meg camera which shoots HD 1060 30 frame and 720 60 frame .
I have been using the 720 6 frame .  Playback using on my camera is perfect , but when I download on to my Intel 1.6duo macmini play back is jerky ... is this just processor limitation or if Mini should be fine to play back (using Quicktime7) could it be file corruption / camera issue.
I think it is just my old computer probably starting to struggle !
    Many thanks

    Couple of things:
There is virtually no standardisation of video formats. The file suffix is if little use to use as, in the case of video, files are just containers for data streams encoded and decoded by Codecs. Pretty much every manufacturer has their own codecs for each and every camera. Put it this way: every Jpeg still is pretty much the same, as there is an agreed standard for that format. There is no such guarantee with avi, mov etc. That's why the model and format of the camera is important.
This model was released in 2012, and you're trying to read data from this using a QuickTime 7, which predates that by a few years. Oddly, Snow Leopard came with QuickTime X, so I'm not sure what you've done there.
iPhoto does not guarantee to import all video from all cameras. What cameras it does support are usually still cameras with a video add on. What you have is a camcorder and the correct app for importing and manipulating video from such a device is iMovie rather than iPhoto. It may be able to transcode it.

Using Migrations Assistant will only move the data and other things over, it will not bring over a previous version of the Os since the 2014 model can run anything earlier than Yosemite.

  • Mac mini will mot play cd or dvd

My mac mini will not play any cd or dvd. I installed a program from downloads.com called "BURN" and after a few weeks now my dvd player will not let me use any cd or dvd. It just makes a loading sound and then ejects the disc.

The PDF file and slideshow view corrupted using iPhoto. Macbook air only get corrupted slideshow and Mac Mini both slideshow and PDF file is corrupted.

Saving as a PDF file for some users have been a problem.  If you boot into  Safe Mode and run iPhoto you can create undamaged PDF files.  We don't know why the problem but this is a workaround.
This problem prevents many from ordering books, calendars and cards since iPhoto creates PDF file of them for uploading and printing.  Booting into Safe Mode lets them successfully order those items.

  • I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements on an older Mac...just bought Mac Mini and migrated all my files...but 4.0 Does not work....can I upgrade PSE 4.0 to PSE 13?

I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements on an older Mac...just bought Mac Mini and migrated all my files...but 4.0 Does not work....can I upgrade PSE 4.0 to PSE 13?

Yes, any version of PSE qualifies for upgrade pricing, but if you're in the US you might want to consider running the trial  for now and waiting for the black friday specials, when the full version will be a lot less than the adobe upgrade price.

  • An mov file which play fine in quicktime on my mac mini will not play in quicktime on a windows 7 unit. Error 2048, quicktime does not understand this file. Any ideas as to why it works in mac version of quicktime and not windows version?

The .mov file sis downloaded from my Sony camera. It is not altered and plays fine on the Mac mini using QuickTime. It will not play on a Windows 7 unit using the latest version of Quicktime. Why would that be? Why will one version of QuickTime work and another not work?

Also make sure the file type is not of a DivX. That your camera supports. Which QT for Mac also supports, but the Windows version of QT does not support DivX, so you're not purchasing something for the Windows computer that is not needed?

  • How to configure Mac Mini (Late 2014) for Seiki 39in at 4K (3840x2160)?

Other users have successfully configured Seiki 50in 4K monitors, but (Yosemite 10.10.1) Preferences does not display any 4K resolutions, even when Option-Clicking the Scale Display choice.  Mac Mini and monitor can be returned in next few days if solution can't be found.  Any tips?

Mac Mini and monitor can be returned in next few days if solution can't be found.
According to every report I've seen, there is no way to drive a 4K monitor from a mini at more than 30 Hz refresh, which is usually considered inadequate for use as a desktop. Even if you can get the display to work, you likely won't be satisfied with it.

  • Mac mini doesn't play stereo sound over HDMI

My Mac mini (2012) is connected to my home theatre via HDMI.  While playing a 5.1 channe movie will play through the speakers fine, a stereo source will only play through the Mac's speakers.  This is true with iTunes Store content - if I slect Audio 1 (Stereo) it plays through the Mac speakers, if I select Audio 2 (5.1) it plays through my home theatre).
    Any suggestions?

There are also some DVD sets with lots of supplement material on their discs, that you can only run with Interactual's DVD Player for the Mac.   Sadly, this software you need 10.6.8 or earlier to run:

  • Configuring Mac Mini Server via Airport Extreme via Netopia Modem

Can any anyone help me with the settings to allow internet access to my Mac Mini Server by a Web browser. What way to you configure the modem and extreme.  The modem seems to want to duplicate a lot of the features of the extreme in it a has its own port forwarding  etc. I have manually set all devices with fixed ip addressas it shares the net work with a Windows SBS. I have a static IP Address and Domain name registered and hosted dns has the domain tranfered. Nat is enabled and ftp, itunes ports open.
Internet is working on the local network which has a 3 Capsules, IMac, and 2 apple TV's all working and streaming from the server. Running Lion from last week.
Would appreciate any help as this is is my first time to use the forum.
    Thanks again.

    First welcome to the discussions.
To set up the client you'll first have to ask the Network Administrator for the name of the VPN server. The username and other details you will need to log on.
You will also need to find out if the VPN uses PPTP or L2TP over IP Sec. with that information in hand open Internet connect in the Applications folder choose NEW VPN Connection then you click on either PPTP or L2TP whichever the network uses, then click continue in the confiquration pop up menu, Choose Edit confiqurations Then enter the information the Network administrator gave you.
Bear in mind that the OSX client does not work with all VPN's.
You may have to purchase a universal VPN client such as VPN Tracker from Equinux ($90.00).

  • I am very new to Mac Mini and need help transferring files to thumb drive

I want to transfer the Mac Mini user guide (manual) to my thumb drive but do not find how to do it.  Help, please!

The thumb drive is on the desktop.  This is the most embarrassing question I have had to ask in public in a long time, but, how do you drag something.  When I try by holding down my mouse on the file name I want to move it doesn't drag it just gives me several other options.  I left Microsoft for this and I know nothing about Apple computers except for my iPad.

  • My mac mini will not play dvd's

I've owned (and loved) my Mac Mini for several years. When I first bought it, I tried to play dvd's, but they'd spin for a while and then pop back out. I bit the bullet and bought a dvd player anyway. I'm now in the process of getting rid of a bunch of stuff I don't need, and I'm re-investigating the possibility of using my Mac Mini to play dvd's. Do I need a new drive or new software?
    Thanks!

Which mini do you have? Mine is a few years old and it is very finicky when it comes to playing DVD's. Some play fine and just take a while to load. Others pop right out. VERY annoying. In your Utilities folder there is a SuperDrive Update program that will check for new drivers. Mine never found any though. Hope it helps.

  • How do I restore my mac mini and back up selected files

    Hi everyone,
I have a question as I'm a little uncertain how to handle this:
I have a Mac Mini 2011, Processor  2 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28), with SATA Disks of 500GB each.  I have noticed it remarkably slowing down lately and I when I checked storage, it says I have 8.65 GB Audio, 117.21 GB Movies, 24.09 GB Photos, 17.34 GB Apps and 269.84 GB Other!!!  I guess my first question is what is that 269.84, but I still would like to back up the things important to me (like photos and misc work files) and just restore my mac to factory settings.  Is there any way I can send my Photos and files to my second SATA disk and restore the start-up disk?  (please explain as though I'm new to this...
    Thanks in advance!

  • Mac Mini (latest) trouble playing flash videos

    Hi,
I have searched around & found lots of people with issues playing video on the mini, but nothing exactly the same as my problem. I have a new mac mini with lion - & flash installed. Latest Updates. That's all that is installed on it. I have it hooked up to my tv via hdmi.
All I want to do it watch tv via safari off the major sites (flash vieo), but on some site only it frezes the video or buffers baddly or just stops & hangs the video all thoghther. I try the same site & video on my iMac upstairs (further away from the router) & the video plays soothly & without problems!
Anyone have any idea what is going on? - Its driving me crazy!

    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          Mac mini
      Model Identifier:          Macmini5,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed:          2.3 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          2 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MM51.0077.B10
      SMC Version (system):          1.76f0
I'm not sure if it has integrated video? I think so?
So I had a look in the console & the only thing it reports is:
PM Kernel: IOSurface: Buffer allocation size is zero
    No idea what that means.
