Confusion building JTree from path strings

If I have a bunch of strings like this:
"/dira/dir1/file1"
"/dira/dir1/file2"
"/dira/dir2/file1"
"/dira/dir3/anotherdir/file1"
etc.
Does anybody have an easy solution to getting them in a JTree that looks like this:
   dira
    |
    +-dir1
    |  |
    |  +-file1
    |  |
    |  +-file2
    |
    +-dir2
    |  |
    |  +-file1
    |
    +-dir3
       |
       +-anotherdir
          |
          +-file1Mainly I am having trouble getting the tree to populate without duplicating nodes. For example dir1 gets listed twice. I am looking for a solution that will parse these strings and build the tree. I have found demos that read a file system, but nothing that works with strings. I have tried to pick apart the file system demos, but so far I can't get it to work correctly.
Thanks,
Jeff

  • Building jtree from database query

    I am trying to build a JTREE from a database result-set. The resultset is listed below. I'm thinking I can somehow build a dynamic array of objects to build a TreePath, then use that to build the JTREE. Any input is appreciated.
    ResultSet Output:
    Here is how the results would be retrieved from the database (including the order of the output).
    usr 1
    local 2
    sbin 2 file4
    bin 3 file1
    bin 3 file2
    logs 3 file3
    tmpdir 4
    The first column is the directory name, the second column is the directory/file level/position, and the third column is the filename, if one exists.
    So from above:
    /usr/local/sbin has file "file4"
    /usr/local/bin has files "file1" and "file2"
    /usr/local/logs has file "file3" and directory "tmpdir"
    How could I gather this information into an appropriate structure and create a JTREE from it.
    Thanks.
    -Jim

    So each line would:basically...
    If I don't know the entire path of the parent (because I've read in a
    line that only has the "one-up" parent name) .... However, when I
    read the line from the database result-set, I don't know where "local" is.See... that's another problem with that data. Maybe you know cuz it's the last node if it's all in a proper order. In which case maybe you only need to hold the last parent node... Some recursive function would be useful.
    If I were going to store the data, I would store either the name as a full path:
    /usr
    /usr/local
    /usr/loca/bin
    or
    usr /
    local /usr
    bin /usr/local
    If you have that, it might be easier to figure out without having to worry about what belongs where.

  • Finding a node in a JTree from a String

    Searched the forums and didn't find anything....
    I have a JTree constructed. Say it looks like this:
    -Fruit
    -Apple
    -Green
    -Red
    -Orange
    -Banana
    I want to be able to get a hold of the Red node when the only information I have is a String that is "Fruit,Apple,Red".
    I was trying to come up with a way to turn that String into a TreePath but can't seem to do it.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the response. Yes, I am using DefaultMutableTreeNodes, but iterating through the whole tree is not an option because there will be tens of thousands of nodes. Tens of thousands??? That's a lot of nodes. Still, even with 10,000 nodes, if you follow my advice and have the nodes nicely seperated into just two levels that gives you 100 top level nodes with 100 entries each. The max cost of your search is 200 (2n) which is pretty reasonable.
    Also, it cannot be done faster unless your tree is sorted. (Although you could apply more threads and Executors)
    Isn't there anyway to get a node from a String representation of a path without iteration?There is no "magic" in programming. Even if there were a method "getTreePathFromString", it would have to do what I'm telling you to do.

  • Convert from std::string to CString in UNICODE builds

    Actually I tried all ways but they didn't help me.
    Is there any working code to convert from std::string to
    CString in UNICODE builds?
    Thanks.
    Mirjalal

    Using non-Unicode string literals in VC++ is asking for trouble, the exact result depends on the codepage of the system used to compile the program and the codepage of the system used to run the program. For example on my system I get 2 question
    marks instead of one, one for ş and one for ə.
    I also get to compilation warnings:
    warning C4566: character represented by universal-character-name '\u015F' cannot be represented in the current code page (1252)
    warning C4566: character represented by universal-character-name '\u0259' cannot be represented in the current code page (1252)
    The easiest solution is to use Unicode string literals and std::wstring:
    wstring z = L"nüşabə";
    CString cs(z.c_str());
    nameData.SetWindowTextW(cs);
    If you can't do that things will get complicated. If you need help with this please give more information. Knowing the compiler version and the system codepage would be useful.

  • Build a JTree from data

    Hello everyone,
    I have to build a JTree from a table data from database. The table structure is
    (id,parent_id,name). In order to build the tree, I have to the following 2 loop searching for the parent_id
    while (i<size){
    while(j<size){
    //find it's parent_id
    j++;
    i++;
    It is too slow! Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

    You just add children to whatever the parent node is for that object.DefaultMutableTreeNode root = new DefaultMutableTreeNode();
    child1 = new DefaultMutableTreeNode();
    root.add( child1 );
    grandChild = new DefaultMutableTreeNode();
    child1.add( grandChild );
    greatGrandChild = new DefaultMutableTreeNode();
    grandChild.add( greatGrandChild );Etc.

  • Creating dynamically JTree from database values

    Hi,
    I have a local database with some node values. I receive these values from database as a String[].
    short example:
    String[] Values = {"mainNode","Processors","mainNode","RAM","mainNode","Monitors",
    "Processors","INTEL","Processors","AMD","RAM","Kingston","RAM","GoodRAM",
    "Kingston","400MHz","Kingston","433MHz"}First value is higher node, second is a child.
    I'd like to produce dynamically JTree from Values[] like below:
    MainNode
    |----Processors
          |----INTEL
          |----AMD
    |----RAM
          |----Kingston
                |----400MHz
                |----433MHz
          |----GoodRam
    |----MonitorsI can't build up any working and fast solution :(
    Can anyone help me ?
    Please for any advices (samples) which will help me to apply it.
    Dearly regards!

    This is a relatively straight forward task but it smacks of being homework so unless you post what you have already done you are unlikely to be given any code.
    As a hint -
    Go through the data creating a Map between the parent value and a child DefaultMutableTreeNode which contains as user object the child String.
    When you extract a parent String from the data lookup the parent DefaultMutableTreeNode in the map and add the child DefaultMutableTreeNode to the parent DefaultMutableTreeNode.
    Note - All the map is doing is giving you a quick way of looking up a DefaultMutableTreeNode given a parent name.
    Note - that your tree will have problems if the same value appears in two or more branches!

  • How to create an XML document from a String.

    Can anyone help,
         In the Microsoft XML Document DOM there is a load function load(string) which will create an XML document, but now we are switching to Java and I do not know how to create and XML document from a string, this string xml document is passed to my program from a webservice and I need to read several xml elements form it in a web server.
    This string is a well formatted XML document:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Countries NumberOfRecords="1" LanguageID="en-us">
         <Country>
              <CountryCode>AU</CountryCode>
              <CountryName>AUSTRALIA</CountryName>
         </Country>
    </Countries>

    Thanks PC!
    I made it work using:
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    factory.setIgnoringComments(true); // We want to ignore comments
    // Now use the factory to create a DOM parser
    DocumentBuilder parser = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    //TransformThisStringBuffer is a string buffer wich contain the 'XML document (String)'
    InputStream in = new ByteArrayInputStream(TransformThisStringBuffer.toString().getBytes());
    // Parse the InputStream and build the document
    Document document = parser.parse(in);
    But which one is faster InputSource or InputStream, were would you put the "new InputSource(new StringReader(yourString))" in the above code?

  • Use regular expressions to extract .llb filename from path

    I am trying to be clever (always a dangerous thing) and use a regular expression to extract the name of a library from a filepath converted to a string.   Whilst I appreciate there are other ways to do this, regex would appear to be a very powerful neat way, should I be able to get it to work.
    i.e if I have a string of the type, C:\applications\versions\library.llb\toplevel.vi, I want to be able to extract library.llb from the string, given that it will be of variable length, may include numbers & spaces and may be within a file hierarchy of variable depth.   In other words, I want to extract the portion of the string between the last \ that ends with .llb
    The best I have managed so far, is \\+.*llb which returned everything minus the drive letter and the toplevel.vi
    Can anyone help me achieve this, or am i better using an alternative method (e.g filepath to array string, search for .llb)
    Thanks
    Matt

  • Getting filename from a string including filepath and filename

    How I can get a filename from a string which includes both
    filepath and filename? The filepath is not always the same. For
    example, the variable could include a "C:\temp\test.doc" or
    "C:\files\docfiles\test.doc" and I need to get the filename
    "test.doc" and save it to another variable. Thanks in
    advance.

    on getFilenameFromPath vPath
    oldDelim=the itemDelimiter
    the itemDelimiter=the last char of the moviePath
    iFilename=the last item of vPath
    the itemDelimiter=oldDelim
    return iFilename
    end
    Put that into a movie script. Then you can call the function
    any time
    to retrieve the last part of the path- like this:
    put getFilenameFromPath("C:\temp\test.doc")
    -- "test.doc"
    As an added bonus, it is cross-platform so it will work on a
    Mac as well
    as a PC.

  • Parsing XML from a String

    I have a servlet, this recieves an XML file from the client as a file input type from a html form. This XML is wrapped up in http headers and stuff. I parse the input stream from the client's http request to get a string containing the xml. This is fine.
    How do I now build an XML document from this string? The DocumentBuilder will take in files and InputStreams but I can't find anything that helps me?
    The only solution I've come up with is to write out the string to a temp file and then parse it back into a Document.
    Any ideas anyone?????

    Document doc = documentBuilder.parse(new InputSource(new StringReader(yourXMLString)));
    voila!

  • How to create a Document object from a string.

    If I use the following code, the input String cannot contain "\n", otherwise, it generates errors.
    in the following code, inputXMLString is a String object that has xml content.
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document document = builder.parse(new InputSource(new StringReader(inputXMLString)));          How can I create a Document object from a string with "\n" in the string?
    Thanks.

    If I use the following code, the input String cannot
    contain "\n", otherwise, it generates errors.That's going to be a huge surprise to thousands of people who process XML containing newline characters every day without errors.
    Perhaps your newline characters are in the middle of element names, or something else that causes your XML to be not well-formed. I'm just guessing here, though, because you didn't say what errors you were getting.

  • Invoking methods extracted from a string?!?

    Hi everybody. I hope the subject is not confusing. What I'm really looking for is some Perl-like behaviour in Java. In Perl its possible to execute subroutines (basicly methods) extracted from a string ("&sub()"). Is there anything similar in Java?
    What I would like to do is to process a string and if it has a method (object.getTime()), the method will be called and the return value stored in its place.
    Please let me know if more explanation is needed.
    Thanks in advance for all the help!
    Leo.

    I use a language called MUMPS where you can do that as well - execute strings as commands etc. I don't know much about Reflection but it looks like you can get method (Objects) from strings and execute them as well ...

    Somewhere in your pom.xml where you are configuring your build dependancies there will be a line <scope>caching</scope> this line is configuring the build to use a flex runtime shared library. This line is generating the error because caching is not a valid dependancy scope in maven 3 however mojos uses it anyway. There was a defect opened against flexmojos; I've linked it below. Froeder's response to the issue was that it was not fixable, that the warning is expected and that we'll have to live with it for now.
