Connect access using JDBC

Hi
I need to write a little server program to pass in SQL statement sent from the client and perform the statement and return the result to the client. I want to server to be able to support more than one access at a time so I will be using thread. It is where I am stuck because am I allowed to use concurrent access to database through JDBC APIs? By the way I am very new to threading etc. so any help and suggestions or directions to other resources will be appreciated.

if u are using servlet then in class where u are writing service() just implement interface SingleThreadModel
write your code to make commection in that service()
java JVM automatically takes care of it ie. multiple thread
or another way is to use Connection Pooling

  • Retrieving data from Microsoft Access using JDBC

    I noticed that when i tried retrieving data from Microsoft access using JDBC, I realised that it was throwing SQLException when the column names were two word with spaces between them, e.g. Date Birth. But after i removed the space from the column names, my SQL queries were retrieving data. Was it because of the space in between the column names of the table?

    Yeah, as far as I know having two word column names isn't allowed in SQL. There might be some way to escape it, but generally it's sensible to avoid it.

  • JSP connected to MS Access using JDBC-ODBC

    If I want to run a jsp file connected to a MS Access database using jdbc-odbc bridge.
    I thought that I should use the following code to make the connection:
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    String database = "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver(*.mdb)}; DBQ=http://myComputerName:8080/examples/jsp/DatabaseTest/mydatabase.mdb;DriverID=22;READONLY=fals";
    sqlca = DriverManager.getConnection(database, "dba","sql");
    but Tomcat 4.1 produces many errors.
    The file runs fine when I determine the complete path and include the local drive (C://) of the database Like the following:
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    String database = "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver(*.mdb)};
    DBQ=C:/Tomcat4.1/webapps/examples/jsp/DatabaseTest/mydatabase.mdb;DriverID=22;READONLY=fals";
    sqlca = DriverManager.getConnection(database, "dba","sql");
    Of course I do not want to use the second code because I want to use my computer as a host.
    I will appreciate any answer!

    Yes, using the DSN, it works fine.
    But, I think it will run from the drive C.
    I want to use my computer as a host. So, I think that I should include the name of the computer in the path.
    I do not know may I am confused.
    I appreciate your reply. Thanks!

  • Access MS-Access using JDBC ODBC bridge from Sun AMD64

    Hi,
    We are trying to configure a communication channel using the JDBC adapter. We are setting the driver to the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver and trying to access an MS Acess database from the PI server(sun amd64). When we set the driver to the JDBC-ODBC bridge, the J2EE engine tries to restart immediately and does not start. The std_server.out contains the following error:
    Service com.sap.aii.adapter.jdbc.svc started. (234 ms).
    1016 sun.io.CharToByteASCII::convert (370 bytes)
    1017 ! com.sap.sql.jdbc.common.CommonPreparedStatement::close (119

    ld.so.1: jlaunch: fatal: relocation error:
    file /usr/j2se/jre/lib/amd64/libJdbcO
    dbc.so: symbol SQLAllocEnv: referenced symbol not found
    Has anybody been able to configure the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver for MS Access? Also, has anybody used the database vendor(MS) drivers? If so, where are they available.
    Thanks in advance

  • Connection reset using JDBC Oracle thin Driver (towards 10g DB)

    Hi we have a home-grown application and a Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) database.
    We created a scheduled servlet that gets a JDBC connection from a persistent connected cache (an OracleDataSource object registered using OracleConnectionCacheManager). The servlet runs every 15 minutes and runs the query "SELECT SYSTIME FROM DUAL" on 10g Database as XYZ user. The datapool was created yday on web-app and all queries ran successfully for about 5 hours after which it reported a connection reset error.
    I can then conclude that we cannot keep the server session alive for the JDBC client by running frequent SQL queries.
    We didnt get any messages on the DB server side that indicate the release of the session
    Ultimately, we are struggling with reset connections from our applications that are
    using the JDBC thin oracle driver; after a couple of hours of idle
    connections, we receive the below error from the JDBC driver:
    Jul 5, 2007 10:59:53 AM oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError throwSqlException
    WARNING: DatabaseError.throwSqlException(e): Unable to find ORA number from

    Any suggestions please ?

    The code itself is fine; the problem is with one of:
    1) the connection URL
    2) intermediate networking
    3) the database itself
    1) your connection URL is "jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:orcl"
    - is Oracle really running on the default port, 1521
    - is the installation SID really "orcl"
    2) lots of possibilities, but only a couple are likely
    - is TCP/IP configured and running on your host
    - is there a persoanl firewall rpduct running? perhaps it's blocking the connection
    3) Is Oracle running?
    Is the listener running?

  • Connect Ms-Access using jdbc in local

    I'm having a problem on connecting my java application with my Access database. My Access database and class file is locate in c:\jdbc folder. Below is my code. Anyone know what wrong it is?
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    String dbURL = "jdbc:odbc:C:\\jdbc\\students.mdb";
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL);

    It's work now... but I want to learn how to configure
    my ODBC driver. Anyone can help or any place website
    that can help me get this resolves?
    sorry for asking this silly question. I'm not only new
    in Java but also RDBMS and my java book never teach
    this things... :(If you are working on windows platform,
    Start-->Settings-->Control Panel-->Data Sources(ODBC)-->User DSN or System DSN-->Add-->Microsoft Access Driver-->Finish
    Now you would have got ODBC Microsoft Access Setup.
    Enter DSN name and select the database, click on advanced and enter username and password. Thats all.
    You can use int in your pgm,
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL,username,password);

    waiting for ur reply.. its urgent

    While executing the above code, I m getting the following error
    Error occurs java.sql.SQLException : No suitable driverDon't post your e-mail.
    This error always means that the URL you gave to connect to the database is incorrect. Yours is indeed wrong:
    String url = "jdbc:odbc:C:\Test";You can correct it in either one of two ways:
    (1) Create a DNS in Windows that points to your database (call it "Test") and change the URL so it says
    String url = "jdbc:odbc:Test";(2) You can skip creating a DNS and use a connection String that looks like this:
    "jdbc:odbc:DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=<database-path>";In your case, <database-path> is "C:\\Test"

  • Storing image file in ms-access using jdbc

    Dear all,
    When i try to store a image file in MS-Access, I try it using OLE Object type in ms-access and object type in Java but i got following exception
    java.sql.SQLException: SQL Exception : Unknown SQL Type for PreparedStatement.setObject (SQL Type=1111
    So anyone please guide me that how to store an image file into ms-access database using the jdbc.
    ishan

    Do you want to store the text from the file? or the actual file?
    If you want to store large amounts of raw text, then you can use the MEMO type, but it will only store up to 64kb (65,535 characters). If you want to store the actual file, you'll have to use a field of OLE type.
    Does this answer your question? or were you asking something else?

  • Using JDBC Data Sources with ADFBC, NoInitialContextException

    Using JDBC Data Sources with ADF Business Components, NoInitialContextException
    I follow the instruction in the link below to create an ADF Swing application using datasource. I am using JDeveloper version 10.1.3.

    If the connection type is JDBC Datasource, I got the above error.
    Can someone show me how to adjust the generated code by ADF to use datasource?

    ADF BC has a bug. With Data Source in Application Module, application module does not connect. Use JDBC Connection URL.

  • Doubt in using JDBC 2.0

    Hi All:
    I am trying to program a simple database access using JDBC 2.0 API. Basically my question is, where exactly do we define the JNDI name for accessing the database? I know that it is used in the lookup method of Context object. But where in my local machine should I define the JNDI name that corresponds to my database driver?
    Thanks for any help!

    Tomcat as well as many other JSP/Servlet containers (WebLogic, JBoss, OAS, SunONE, etc.) has built in directory management system and you can define your resources inside them and access it through JNDI. All these containers can be installed on Windows XP Home! You don't need any other special dir. mgmt. system.
    If you need special capabilities, then you can use e.g. ADS but for ADS you have to have Windows Server 200x. Windows 2000 Professional/XP Home are not capable of managing ADS.

  • How to use JDBC Connection Pools in a standalone application?

    Hi, there,
    I have a question about how to use JDBC Connection Pools in an application. I know well about connection pool itself, but I am not quite sure how to keep the pool management object alive all the time to avoid being destroyed by garbage collection.
    for example, at the website: http://www.developer.com/java/other/article.php/626291, there is a simple connection pool implementation. there are three classes:JDBCConnection, the application's gateway to the database; JDBCConnectionImpl, the real class/object to provide connection; and JDBCPool, the management class to manage connection pool composed by JDBCConnectionImpl. JDBCPool is designed by Singleton pattern to make sure only one instance. supposing there is only one client to use connection for many times, I guess it's ok because this client first needs instantiate JDBCPool and JDBCConnectionImpl and then will hold the reference to JDBCPool all the time. but how about many clients want to use this JDBCPool? supposing client1 finishes using JDBCPool and quits, then JDBCPool will be destroyed by garbage collection since there is no reference to it, also all the connections of JDBCConnectionImpl in this pool will be destroyed too. that means the next client needs recreate pool and connections! so my question is that if there is a way to keep pool management instance alive all the time to provide connection to any client at any time. I guess maybe I can set the pool management class as daemon thread to solve this problem, but I am not quite sure. besides, there is some other problems about daemon thread, for example, how to make sure there is only one daemon instance? how to quit it gracefully? because once the whole application quits, the daemon thread also quits by force. in that case, all the connections in the pool won't get chance to close.
    I know there is another solution by JNDI if we develop servlet application. Tomcat provides an easy way to setup JNDI database pooling source that is available to JSP and Servlet. but how about a standalone application? I mean there is no JNDI service provider. it seems a good solution to combine Commons DBCP with JNID or Apache's Naming (http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/index.html). but still, I don't know how to keep pool management instance alive all the time. once we create a JNDI enviroment or naming, if it will save in the memory automatically all the time? or we must implement it as a daemon thread?
    any hint will be great apprieciated!
    Sam

    To my knoledge the pool management instance stays alive as long as the pool is alive. What you have to figure out is how to keep a reference to it if you need to later access it.

    May be the cause for this is :
    1) The Wrong URL  format
    2) CLASSPATH is not setted properly..
    Can you look more into this stuff.

    Hi,
    To access any database fromm XI, using the JDBC adapter, the corresponding drivers have to be installed on the XI server.
    Just check this note 831162.

    I dont think it will work. In 10g forms is going to implement transparent gateways.
    Is there a possibility of getting the data from MS access directly to Oracle database and then connect to Oracle DB from forms ?
