...connect to a shared folder on a MAC with director 11???

Hi All,
I developed a project a few years ago that work as follows.
This was designed to work on Win XP, using Director MX2004
Server Setup
All the media files where installed on a server and the folder they resided in was setup as a shared folder.
Workstation Setup
A projector was installed on a workstation PC, along with the director projector, a txt file was install, the txt file contained the unc path to where all the media files resided. i.e. all director & video file etc.
The projector file would read the text file, get the unc path, and open the appropriate dxr file.
This worked really well.
My question is, now I'm upgrading the software to Director 11, it is required to work the same way on MAC OSX. The only difference to the system will be that the media files will reside on a MAC server and the workstations will be MACs (Intel MACs running the latest OSX).
How can you connect to a shared folder on a MAC with director 11?
Its not '\\share_name'... should 'afp:\\share_name' work???
I keep getting the can't find 'myfile.dxr' alertbox
I hope I've explained myself well enough.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

Using a similar technique you could write the name of the mounted volume (just the name in this case, not the full path) to a text file and open it with a separate AppleScript app containing the applescript below. Note that any files you have accessed from the volume will probably have to be unlinked before Finder will be able to eject it.
on open (theFile)
set theVolume to readFile(theFile as text)
  if (theVolume is "") then
    return false
  end if
  try
    tell application "Finder"
      eject theVolume
    end tell
    return true
  on error
    return false
  end try
end open
on readFile(theFileName)
  try
set theFileRef to (open for access file theFileName)
  on error
    return ""
  end try
  try
    set theText to (read theFileRef)
  on error
    set theText to ""
  end try
  close access theFileRef
  return theText
end readFile

  • I can't see shared printers from a Mac with Leopard

Hi there we got a new MacPro that came with Leopard but when I want to add the printers shared by two old Macs it can't see them, it only find and HP Color LaserJet 2600n that was shared on a Mac Book. The other Macs has OSX 10.3.9 (a G5) and 10.3 (a G4), one share a HP LaserJet 1200 and the other an Epson Inkjet Printer. We also have a MacPro (a core 2 duo) with OSX 10.4 that can find all the printers.
I was wondering if the version of the old Macs has something to do with my problem, maybe the Leopard can't reach them or something like that.
    Thanks

Have a look at this article from Apple

It covers the issues with Leopard seeing printers shared by 10.3.

  • Taking a long time to connect to a shared folder in Mavericks from another Mavericks mac

    Hi All,
I have a MacBook Air and an iMac both running the same version of Mavericks (10.9.4). They are both on the same network in my house and I have enabled file sharing on both mac's.
When I click on the iMac in the shared section of finder on the MacBook Air it states "connecting" and never connects.
When I click "connect as" it takes a good 30-40 seconds for the login window to appear, when I enter the details and click login it takes another 30-40 seconds to connect. ( always select remember in keychain).
Why is it taking so long?
Also if I try to login using my Apple ID the login screen just shakes and does not let me log in with Apple ID.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Linc,
    No joy.
I also just upgraded both to Yosemite and am still getting the same issue.
I user the same username for both macs and when I click on one from the other in the shared section the windows states "connecting" for over a minute before it connects.

  • How can I tell *who* is using a shared folder on my Mac?

I've searched high and low looking for a way to (1) get notified when someone connects to my Mac via AFP, and (2) see who is connected. Except for the System Preferences->Sharing panel, which will reveal how many users are connected, there's nothing I can find that will tell me anything about current AFP connections.
Perhaps there's a third-party utility that will do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

And that "Who is connected" looks real neat!
It is a bit of a letdown, actually. I just tried it, could only get it to show that there is someone connected, but not how many or who they are. And then I saw this right on their webpage itself:
    Known bugs and limitations:
    - Who Is Connected? doesn't do everything that it says on the tin (yet)...it doesn't list individual connections at a given point in time. Sorry, it almost does what it says on the tin, and it may well do one day, but not quite yet.
At this time, Who Is Connected? seems more useful for SSH than AFP. Well, unfortunately I never use SSH...
I got a little more out of Network Utility. It's more cryptic, you kind of have to know what all the code means, after clicking all the buttons I was able to locate something that said "afp" and identify the IP address of my other connected Mac but a lot of Mac users wouldn't even know to look for that.
I guess this problem is crying out for a solution that is truly Mac-like in its readability.

  • Other Users Cannot Connect To My Shared Folder. Only Displays VNC

I set my account up to accept File Share.
When my friends access my computer through the "share" tab in finder, it says that they are connected through VNC and gives them an option to do "screen sharing" but thats all that they can do.
They cannot see the public folder.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Jake

you can also remove all the preffered networks in your computer and reconnect to the network using the new setting that you have placed on the router.

  • Sharing iTunes on a Mac with VMware Fusion

I want to share my iTunes library on the Mac side of my MacBook Pro with the Windows VMware Fusion machine. I'm hoping to just point the Windows side to my shared Mac iTunes folder. I can see the folder (under Edit...Preferences...Advanced - it shows up as Z:\Music\iTunes) but haven't been able to have the actual songs show up in the Music Library on my Windows iTunes.
    Is anyone else doing this?

There is a separate Windows forum in the Discussions where your question should probably be posted because it has nothing to do with the Finder and Dock.
Ideally, however, you should post it on the VM Fusion forum since the question has to do with using VM Fusion.

You can set up an secure disk image.
    Open Applications/Utilities/DiskUtility
In the Help, search for "secure" to find the article titled, "Protecting confidential documents in a secure disk image," for instructions on how to set it up.

    Hi morgan149,
Does the printer have a valid IP address (Example: 192.168.1.101)?
If so, can you type the printers IP address into Safari, and see printer information from the EWS - Embedded Web Server?

  • Access shared folder on Mac

    Hi,
    I have two Queries
I want to access shared folder on my mac which is being originated from a Windows Xp desktop (through Wifi). I can  see the folder name under shared files but cannot access it (It says "Connection failed")
Can I use Printer through that shared folder (Windows Xp Desktop)
    Thanks
    Paddy

I've since discovered another error in Finder when trying to connect to the shared drive on my MacBook. If I use the 'Go', 'Connect to Server' option and type the address afp://192.168.0.2 of my MacBook on the EMac the following error is displayed: 'The text entered does not appear to be a recognized URL format'. I know that it is as this format works when i connect from the MacBook to the EMac (apart from the changing the IP address).
i've ran the disk utility to repair the disk permissions but this has not helped. it would appear Finder is a bit mixed up. Is there a repair or reinstall option for Finder?
    Thanks.

  • XP connecting to 10.6 shared folder via SMB.

    Hi,
I am having a problem with XP connecting via SMB to a 10.6 folder.
The connection starts normally but the next day when I'm back in the office I usually need to restart the mac computer before the XP machines can connect to the shared folder.
    This is very frustrating.
    Anyone has some suggestions?

Make sure the time servers in both the PC & the Mac are are the same time server. Try to use a third party time server.

  • WIndows XP/Vista can not recognize shared folder on Mac running Leopard

    Hi,
I have problem with sharing file from my Mac running Leopard to my Windows machine (running XP and Vista). I follow the instruction on this website. http://lifehacker.com/software/mac-os-x-leopard/leopard-simplifies-networking-31 7033.php
My Windows machine 'see' the Mac. When i double-click or press enter on the Mac comp icon on my windows machine, I do not get any confirm box to enter username and password. Instead, I am allowed to view the content which is empty ( although I enabled some shared folder on my Mac)
Any suggestion to solve the problem pls .

If your Mac Pro has FileVault on, your Windows XP machine will not be able to access the files, as FileVault disables SMB and printer sharing for Windows XP clients.
In case FileVault is not on, you could try temporarily disabling the Windows firewall and the anivirus and/or internet security suite on the WinPC, and see whether it can access the files on your Mac Pro.
    Good Luck.

  • OS 10.9.2 and shared folder on Win8.1 machine

After I updated my OS to 10.9.2 i can no longer connect to a shared folder on my Win8.1 machine. It seems to conect but I cannot view anything in the folder. If I try to disconnect my Mac kinda hangs. I can still start other apps but the Apple menu is no longer usable. I cannot restart or shutdown, I have to hard power off the machine. Seems fine if I try to connect to a Win 8 machine but not Win 8.1.  I have a late 2011 macbook pro.

...I actually just uninstalled, and then reinstalled the software, and it's working now!
    Thanks for the response though

  • Finding a Windows 7 shared folder on OS X

Just wondering if I can get some help. Has anyone been able to find a Windows 7 (RC) shared folder on their Mac? I know the HomeShare feature on Windows 7 needs to be turned off. And if I log in using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection software file sharing works fine (access is found on Win 7 side), but I'd like it as a browsable folder on my Mac desktop.
    Thanks.

I have just installed W7 on my Bootcamp partition on my MBP. I can access the shares on the MBP with 10.6.2 but cannot access the shares on my G5 PPC with 10.5.8.
Any idea how to do this? I have no problem accessing the G5 from my XP PC. I have checked the sharing and network prefs and everything seems in order. I am able to access the W7 share from the G5 - but not the other way around.
