Connect to Airdisk from a PC outside my network?

Title says it all. I can connect just fine to my APE's Airdisk from a PC while inside my network, but not from anywhere else. It just hangs there & finally says its not found. Macs from across the internet connect just fine only using the IP address inside the Finder/Connect To Server (Command+K) option.
Am I missing something simple? Bonjour & share over WAN are both checked. Do I have to turn on some kind of Port Mapping for the disk or disable some firewall on the PC??
BTW, im just connecting the standard way by right-clicking on Start/Explore option in XP & mapping a new network drive with \\myipaddress\diskname Inside my home network this method works great, but thats the only place I can get it to work.
Im really stuck & would GREATLY appreciate any insight you guys can give. Thanks!!

Did you ever get this working? I am trying to do the same and am unsuccessful.

  • Connecting to mpd over the Internet (outside home network) - error

I'm trying to connect to an mpd instance running on my home computer from my computer at work.  I have an OpenVPN server at home, and so I can securely connect to my home network from work.  I've set up a second instance of mpd and icecast at home, and I'm trying to connect to this at work.  I can connect to the extent of being able to pull my library, playlist info over, but I can't actually seem to play anything.
When I look at the mpd error messages, I find:
shout_output: Failed to open "exelion HD mpd stream" [shout]: problem opening connection to shout server localhost:8000: Login failed
output: Failed to open audio output
I'm trying to connect using Cantata (which I use at home and like).
    Things I've played with:
originally in my mpd config I had:
    user "source"
I tried commenting that out and just letting mpd use whatever the default user is, but that didn't seem to help.
The other thing I wonder about but haven't tried is different settings for "admin-user" in the icecast config.
    I currently have
    <admin-user>my-home-usernamer</admin-user>
.  Should I change this to "admin"?  Does it matter?
The passwords match between the mpd and icecast configs.

Foucault wrote:Just in case you are not aware of it, MPD has built-in HTTP streaming to mp3/ogg/whatever. Unless you need any of the more advanced Icecast features, just use the httpd audio_output and get done with it.
Thanks. I didn't know that. But that seems much easier.  I tried this, but I'm still having trouble.  From the mpd server I get the following report:

  • Connection to Oracle from remote computer in local network

I have local network with two computers: WinXP with Oracle 10g and Vista with Oracle Client tools. I need to connect to the Oracle 10g from the client PC with sqlplus and with Enterprise Manager Console. Sqlplus returns ORA-12154 error, EM console returns ORA-12541 error.
Is the problem in configuration of listener.ora, tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora on the server side and on the client side? They look like this:
    Server side:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS, EZCONNECT)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
Are these files configured fine? Or do I have to configure also something else? When I do tnsping 10.0.0.9 from the client, the result is OK. So what is wrong? Thanks a lot for help, Petr.

Sqlplus returns ORA-12154 error, EM console returns ORA-12541 error- Make sure that "TNSNAMES" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA)
    - Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists and is in the proper directory and is accessible.
    - Check that the net service name used as the connect identifier exists in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    - Make sure there are no syntax errors anywhere in the TNSNAMES.ORA file. Look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters. Errors in a TNSNAMES.ORA file may make it unusable.

  • How do I access my Airdisk from the Internet?

    Hello,
I have been scouring the web for the answer to this, and have found very little, why doesn't Apple help out more with this. They say it is possible, just not how to do it.
My AE is bridged to my ISPs Netgear router which supports dyndns. I've created an account with dyndns.com and when entering the details into my router, it successfully automatically updates it. This is probably the first hurdle in getting web access to my disk that other people may not have? But what do I do next?
I can access my Airdisk within my home network and have told my AE to share and advertise via Bonjour, but are the Bonjour wide-area hostname settings the same settings as my dyndns account? I've read that the hostname is a single name that I've selected on dyndns.com and the domain is dnsalias.net, then Name and Password is the same as my dyndns account?
Thanks very much for your help!

Thanks for letting me know the port, but what I didn't know how to do was actually connect to it. Out of the blue, I tried map network drive at work on a pc to my AEBS at home and wala it worked! I just wish they would post this somewhere! The manual for the AEBS would be a logical place, and yes I have it configured in bridge mode. Is there not a way to connect to AirDisk from Internet Explorer?
Some more things I discovered ON MY OWN since there seems to be ABSOLUTELY no guidance on this ANYWHERE, if somebody knows where, then please do tell:
    1. port 548 (thanks duane) needs to be opened for Apple formatted AirDisks using Apple Filing Protocol on the mac (from Finder, Go, Connect to Server, afp://home network ip or dns name/disk name) or map network drive on the pc:
(2 back slashes, leaning back)home network ip or dns name\disk name
    2. port 445 needs to be opened for Windows formatted AirDisks using Server Message Block on the mac (from Finder, Go, Connect to Server, smb://home network ip or dns name/disk name) or map network drive on the pc:
(2 back slashes, leaning back)home network ip or dns name\disk name (haven't tried this yet, but will shortly)
    3. for guest access (usually read only), you may use guest and nothing for the password to connect to your AirDisk
    4. for user access (usually to write), you may use anything for the username and the disk password you set for the AirDisk to connect
    MAJOR PROBLEM!! >>
I was so psyched to have access to my AirDisk and tried several small files to test it out, no problem. However, when I try to upload .avi files of about 700MB size, I get an error stating that the device is no longer connected either at home or outside of home most of the time completely freezing the AEBS! Is there any size or file type of restrictions with AirDisk?? This is crazy, I get this far and I'm stuck by what appears to be a substandard device!?! I'm using PCs at both places, but it shouldn't matter since the AEBS fully support PCs! Could I possibly be doing something wrong?
    << MAJOR PROBLEM!!
There could be a problem with my AEBS as I wrote in another post, channel 1 of it's wifi appears to be completely inoperable.

  • Do I need a domain name in order to connect to my Mini Server 10.8.2 from outside my network?

I am working on setting up my mac mini server. Aside from in home file sharing I want ot be able to connect to some files remotely and even upload files, say pictures from my camera, to my server from outside my network. I am only looking to have maybe 2 users that have access. Should I get a domain name from a place like GoDaddy? in order to set up server to use domain in initial setup? I have 2 Drobos connected with my music, videos and pictures and I wat to access them from an Android, Windows and iPod device when away from home. Any how-tos out there or good step by step guides?
    Thanks for any information.

A normal address like www.domain.com is intended to work with static IP addresses, DynDNS is a service specifically intended for dynamic addresses and it will therefore automatically update the address e.g. name.dyndns.org to match the dynamic IP address each time it changes.
Some home broadband routers have built-in support to act as a DynDNS client but if yours does not then you can run the DynDNS software on your Mac server. This will then tell the DynDNS servers what your current dynamic IP address is so they can map it to your host name.
The result will be that your users can use a name like yourname.dyndns.org to access your server and not have to worry about the fact your IP address may change.
You would still need to run a VPN server to allow your remote users to connect to your network but OS X Server can do this. You could also run a website but depending on your needs that might be better done by using a web hosting service.

  • Possible to connect to AirDisk out side of home?

Ok, this is the deal. I have two AirPort Extremes 802.11n. One connects to my Comcast cable modem. The other connects to my Samsung CLP-510 laser printer and my LaCie 500gb Mini USB HD. The network is setup as 802.11n only at 5hz, with WPA2 Personal encryption. Oh, I upgraded my MBP to 802.11n, and working flawlessly. Is it possible to connect to my AirDisk from outside my home, to access files? If it is possible who do I do it? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Permit traffic from Inside to Outside, but not Inside to medium security interface

Can someone just clarify the following. Assume ASA with interfaces as :
inside (100)   (private ip range 1)
guest (50)       (private ip range 2)
    outside (0)      (internet)
Example requirement is host on inside has http access to host on outside, but it shouldn’t have http access to host on guest – or any future created interfaces (with security between 1-99).
What’s the best practice way to achieve this?

    Hi,
The "security-level" alone is ok when you have a very simple setup.
I would suggest creating ACLs for each interface and use them to control the traffic rather than using the "security-level" alone for that.
If you want to control traffic from "inside" to any other interfaces (and its networks) I would suggest the following
Create and "object-group" containing all of the other network
Create an ACL for the "inside" interface
First block all traffic to other networks using the "object-group" created
After this allow all rest of the traffic
In the case where you need to allow some traffic to the other networks, insert the rule at the top of the ACL before the rule that blocks all traffic to other networks
For example a situation where you have interfaces and networks
    WAN
    LAN-1 = 10.10.10.0/24
    LAN-2 = 10.10.20.0/24
    DMZ = 192.168.10.0/24
    GUEST = 192.168.100.0/24
You could block all traffic from "LAN-1" to any network other than those behind the "WAN" interface with the following configuration.
    object-group network BLOCKED-NETWORKS
    network-object 10.10.20.0 255.255.255.0
    network-object 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0
    network-object 192.168.100.0 255.255.255.0
access-list LAN-1-IN remark Block Traffic to Other Local Networks
    access-list LAN-1-IN deny ip any object-group BLOCKED-NETWORKS
access-list LAN-1-IN remark Allow All Other Traffic
    access-list LAN-1-IN permit ip 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0 any
This should work if your only need is to control the traffic of the interface "LAN-1". If you want to control each interfaces connections to the others then you could do minor additions
Have all your local networks configured under the "object-group"This way you can use the same "object-group" for each interface ACL
    object-group network BLOCKED-NETWORKS
    network-object 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0
    network-object 10.10.20.0 255.255.255.0
    network-object 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0
    network-object 192.168.100.0 255.255.255.0
access-list LAN-1-IN remark Block Traffic to Other Local Networks
    access-list LAN-1-IN deny ip any object-group BLOCKED-NETWORKS
access-list LAN-1-IN remark Allow All Other Traffic
    access-list LAN-1-IN permit ip 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0 any
access-list LAN-2-IN remark Block Traffic to Other Local Networks
    access-list LAN-2-IN deny ip any object-group BLOCKED-NETWORKS
access-list LAN-2-IN remark Allow All Other Traffic
    access-list LAN-2-IN permit ip 10.10.20.0 255.255.255.0 any
access-list DMZ-IN remark Block Traffic to Other Local Networks
    access-list DMZ-IN deny ip any object-group BLOCKED-NETWORKS
access-list DMZ-IN remark Allow All Other Traffic
    access-list DMZ-IN permit ip 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 any
access-list GUEST-IN remark Block Traffic to Other Local Networks
    access-list GUEST-IN deny ip any object-group BLOCKED-NETWORKS
access-list GUEST-IN remark Allow All Other Traffic
    access-list GUEST-IN permit ip 192.168.100.0 255.255.255.0 any
Then you could basically use the same type ACLs in each interface. (Though still separate ACLs for each interface) And as I said if you need to open something between local networks then insert the correct "permit" tule at the top of the ACL.
    Hope this helps

  • Remote access VPN clients connected to Internet from VPN

    Greetings,
I need to let remote VPN clients to connect to Internet from the same ASA VPN server
" client connects to ASA through VPN tunnel from outside interface then access Internet from the same ASA from outside interface again
    thanks

you'll need to configure 'same-security-traffic permit intra-interface' on the ASA .
Also, need to setup the corresponding nat statements for your clients pool range.
    i.e.
    global (outside) 1 interface
    nat (outside) 1 access-list anyconnectacl
where anyconnectacl is the pool for your clients:
    access-list anyconnectacl permit ip 172.16.1.0 255.255.255.0 any

  • Open Directory access from outside of network / internet

    Hello all,
Got a question I'd love to get some help on, I have some users who are outside of my network and I'd like them to connect into the open directory on our leopard server so they can use the Shared iCal calendars, addresses, etc.
So my questions are A) Is it possible to connect in from outside the network and get access to the directory without having to have a seperate user account and use our VPN every time you want to connect? - if not is this the only way to do it (would you have to connect via the Mac VPN and then connect to the directory?)
    B) is it possible to do this "seamlessly" so that you don't have to change any settings, login details each time you switch between your local user from outside the network and your directory access. (so basically if you are in iCal if you have internet access it will connect you to the directory, without you doing anything extra?)
Hope that makes sense, I can't seem to find the answers I need in the manuals, if I knew how this was meant to work I could probably have a fair go at figuring out how to actually do it (firewall changes etc)
Thanks in advance for the help
    Martin

If your OD server is visible from the internet -- i.e., it has a public address -- then you can do this without the VPN. However, it's not advisable to have a server exposed in that fashion.
You would be better off doing this through the VPN:
    - Remote user connects to internet at hotel, for example.
    - Remote user initiates VPN connection.
    - Remote user now has access to iCal server and directory information.
Explain to the users that this information is private to the company, and private company resources are only available through the VPN. Allowing access without the VPN would be similar to the company posting its Employee roster and meeting calendars on the face of the building where any person (or competitor) could see them.

It's just one extra step: Connect to VPN. You're still the same local user on the computer.
If you're talking about laptop users needing directory access to authenticate when logging into their computers, well...That sounds like a whole other situation.
    Hopefully this helps.

  • No connection after waking from sleep using Express as base station

I find it difficult to re-establish my Internet connection after waking from sleep.
The Airport Express is connected to a wired Linksys router. I am using the Airport Express as my main base station. The Powerbook is joining my preferred network, but I am unable to get any in- or outbound Internet traffic.
I am, however, able to connect to my Linkys and login to to its admin area. When I run Ping and Traceroute diagnostics from the Linksys web interface, everything seems to be fine-- I am able to see outside servers. So the problem is this-- I am losing my Internet connection somewhere between the Linksys router and my Powerbook. Only after I fiddle I reset the Airport Express and fiddle with the Airport menu (Turn Airport On/Off) am I finally able to get out to the Internet.
I have the channel switching set to Automatic, but I've also tried running the Airport Express at different channels to no avail.
    Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Since you have an Airport Express connected to a separate router, start by disabling the router built into the Airport Express. To do this - run the Airport Admin Utility, select your Airport Express, click Configure, click the Network tab, and uncheck the setting to "Distribute IP addresses". Update settings to the Airport Express. Then - very important - restart all wireless computers.

  • How to configure connection to AD from a hosted environment

    Hi there,
I am in the process of planning a migration from our current SP 2010 environment to SP 2013 that is being hosted outside of our network.
I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction of how I go about setting up a connection to our AD server inside our network to this SP environment that will be outside our network?
    Thanks

Or you could talk to them about setting up ADFS. This won't require a forest trust (which hosting providers normally don't do). ADFS is based on certificates, and allows SharePoint to use credentials from your organizations AD. It will require work on
their end as well as on your end. See this article for more information:

  • With Mountain Lion Server, can users access the Messages Server from outside your network?

I would like to setup a new messaging service between my employees because we have issues with most online services. I'm thinking of getting a Mac Mini Server, so I can run Messages Server, but I have an employee outside my network. Can they login to the server remotely to use the Messages Server?
    Thanks

If you're talking about setting up and using the Jabber messaging service provided by OS X server then yes, it's really easy to set up and use in and out of the office. The only trick it is, and also most other services, is a correct DNS setup so you're able to connect and use the server from the "outside".
I use this myself (via Lion server rather than Moutain Lion server) from behind a dynamic IP addressed ADSL line and have no problems whatsoever.

  • How to allow some fixed extension go in from outside to inside but not allow go from inside to outside

how to allow some fixed extension go in from outside to inside but not allow go from inside to outside
for example, allow JPEG, MOV, AVI data flow from outside to inside
but not allow JPEG, MOV, AVI files access or upload or get by outside, in another words not from inside to outside
    how to configure?

    Hi,
The ZBF link sent earlier show how we can inspect URI in http request
    parameter-map type regex uri_regex_cm
       pattern “.*cmd.exe”
    class-map type inspect http uri_check_cm
       match request uri regex uri_regex_cm
ZBf is the feature on Cisco routers and ASA though concepts are little same but works differently. However it is important that you can be more granular with the protocol (layer 7) inspection only. Like on ASA if you will try to restrict .exe file from a p2p application that won't be possible, But on router you have some application for p2p in NBAR and you can use it file filtering. Please check configuartion example for both devices.
    Thanks
