Connecting an iPod nano (3rd generation) to Windows Vista

I have purchased an iPod nano (3rd generation) and I tried to connect it via USB to a Windows Vista Enterprise Laptop. Even though the iPod is connected (as it appears on the iPod screen), Windows fails to locate the driver to install it. I have tried several articles found in the discussions forum, reseting the iPod nano, re-installing iTunes, and rebooting Vista, but no solution given.
Please advise.
Thanks

Have not been able to connect to iTunes for months, right about the time Microsoft put out the Zune! Would love to hear from a lawyer about a class action lawsuit againat Apple since this issue has not been resolved and we are required to use iTunes. In the meantime, filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission!

  • Found solution for connection problems iPod Nano 3rd gen to Windows Vista!!

    Hello people!
I just found a solution to connection problems with iPod Nano 3rd generation when connecting it to a Windows Vista machine.
Because of 'security reasons', Vista asks you to check the drive for errors when connecting the iPod.
    The thing to do here:
Click the cross to exit the windows; DON'T CLICK 'do not check drive'!!!!
So just click the red cross to close the window and the iPod should be recognized by iTunes.
    Symptoms:
    - iPod cannot be recognized by iTunes when you connect it.
    - iPod doesn't show up as a drive in Windows Explorer.
I really really hope I solved your problem. Have fun!

  • Ipod nano 3rd generation on windows 98?

    it doesnt seem possible.
im trying to get my girlfriend songs on her new ipod nano that i bought her and its saying i need windows xp or vista to install itunes 7.5.
windows 98 only lets you install itunes 7.3
and i cant access the library of the new ipod nano
    help?

There's another way to trick the new Ipods to working without Windows XP and Vista, but I think it only works for Windows 2000, I dont think Windows 98 can handle the same plugins... anyway, the setup is download Winamp Media Player, download WinAVI MP4 converter, download QuikTime codec 9 or Realmedia codec, and sync the Ipod. Sorry if it doesnt work for 98 though

  • Ipod nano first generation and windows vista

I finally got everything to work right with Itunes and Windows Vista except one minor problem.
On my ipod, the blue "dot" does not show up when a podcast is new, so in a long lists of podcasts, I can't tell which ones I already listened to.
Is there a way to fix this?
    Thank you, Debra

    is it the cord?
    my usb port?
    ANYTHING HEPLS!

My cousin had this same problem when she plugged in her ipod.
Luckily i was able to fix it for her.
If it doesnt show up in either iTunes or windows explorer then follow these steps
    1. Click the start menu and right click my computer, click manage in the drop menu
    2. Accept the security thing and then the computer management will appear
    3. In the right hand pane, look for disk managment and click it.
    4. In the right hand side now it should display all of your system disks, locate your iPod and click format, a dialog box will appear and check quick format and then click format.
    5. Disconnect your ipod and it should begin to restart.
But if that doesnt work, try this
    1. Get into computer management like before
    2. Go to device management in the left pane
    3. In the right pane it should show all the devices installed on your computer grouped in categories.
    4. Locate your iPod right click it and click uninstall, disconnect it and then reconnect it and let the device install.

  • Does the iPod nano 3rd Generation charge and sync in an iPhone 3G Dock?

I wanna bye an iPhone 3G Dock. Now I have the question if I can connect my iPod nano 3rd Generation to the new dock for syncing and charging. On Apples homepage is the campatibility status set to only iPhone 3G, but I question this because older docks, like the one for the old iPod Photo works with other iPods as well.
The dock connector on the iPhone 3G dock seems to be the same as the one on the charging cable and that cable has to be inserted in the dock. So why should it not work?
I know I could bye the iPhone 3G cradle for the universal dock I already have, but I want to have the ability to make speakerphone conversations with the iPhone in the dock. That only works well with the original iPhone 3G dock.
    Can someone help me?

Bit late on the old reply, but i'm using a different Apple Dock for my Nano. I have the Universal one,but it looked so big for the little Nano. I stumbled across an iPhone one by mistake, but only cost me £7 delivered, brand new.
So in answer to your question, yes. And it enables me to get a skin on the iPod and still use the dock...

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

Save all the photos from your Droid into a folder on your computer.
Connect your device to your computer. On iTunes left Pane, select iPhone under 'Devices'; then on the right Pane, select PHOTO tab.  Make sure Sync Photo box is checked, and "from" box selected the folder that has Droid's photos.  Then click the SYNC or APPLY button on the lower right window.

  • Ipod nano 3rd generation won't turn on

iPod nano 3rd gen.   Suddenly stopped working, Should I assume it is shot or anyone have any solutions.
Was recently working, then a white screen and static.   Wont power on, and iTunes does not recognize it.

    Howdy maggie63,
It sounds like your iPod nano will not turn on, or respond to anything. I want to recommend 2 things here.
First, reset the iPod with these steps:
    Reset
    To reset your iPod:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
If that does not work I would next try to restore the iPod with iTunes:
    1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
    3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes. If the iPod's display doesn't show "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" you may need to put the iPod into disk mode to proceed.
    4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
    5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod, even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
    6. A message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator's name and password.
    7. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
    8. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
    9. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.
