Connecting database from extended javascript
Is there a possibility of connecting database directly from scripting (i.e using a jsx file alone.)?
do indesign provide some api to connect to the database?
or the only way XML to get thorugh?
every suggestion and ideas is highly appreciable.
Ton thanks in advance

Connect database using ext javascript or applescipt in indesign
Hi,
I need to connect oracle database using extended javascript or apple script in indesign. Can somebody help by giving any suggestion. Or is there any possibility to connect database using the two scripting methods.
It is really urgent.
Thanks
Karthik BExtendScript has a Socket object prototype you can use to e.g. connect to the internet. Calling a web service would probably be more elegant than addressing the database directly. Socket is fairly low-level, though. If you need something easier, you could always try out http://extendables.org/docs/packages/http/doc/readme.html
I seem to recall some InDesign plug-ins you could buy that allow you to connect to a database directly, but you'd have to google that yourself. -

How to connect to oracle9i database from Unix
Hi All,
How can i connect to remote oracle9i database(windows based) from Unix. I have following server information Server IP, Username , Userpassword , DataBase name.Do i need any other information to connect to server?
How can i connect database from Putty?
Do i need to install SQL on the Unix to connect to oracle server?
and which C/C++ API i have to use to access tables from the remote oracle server?
please help me i am new to oracle .
Thanks in advance.Oracle generally uses a special set of software, commonly called the SQLNet or Oracle Networking, as a layer to provide a connection between the client and the database server.
In general terms,
- the client software (perhaps sqlplus, an application, ODBC) calls Oracle Networking on the client computer and says "please connect to database known as 'x'";
- Oracle Networking translates the request, often by looking up 'x' in the TNSNAMES.ORA file at the client side, to get the host name, the port the Oracle listener is waiting on, and the name of the database service to access;
- Oracle Networking contacts the computer on the required port. If the listener is there, the Oracle Networking client asks for a connection to the database service;
- The Listener (if it recognizes it) asks the database service for a 'server process';
- The database starts up a server process which grabs a network port and tells the listener which port was obtained;
- The listener tells Oracle Networking on the client which port to use;
- The client disconnects from the Listener, and reconnects at that port;
- The server process starts authentication and session initialization, after which we are good to go.
In answer to your questions:
1) How can i connect database from Putty?
That implies you want to telnet to the Windows box and run the client stuff locally on the Windows box. So that means you need to look at telnet or ssh documentation - this has nothing to do with Oracle.
2) Do i need to install SQL on the Unix to connect to oracle server?
Not really. It does mean you might want to install an Oracle CLIENT (see the download section of http://otn.oracle.com) which will initiate the sequence as above.
A different sort of client is SQL Developer, a Java-based GUI with it's own built-in Oracle Networking, that displays database stuff. That is also offered by Oracle at the same download page.
3) and which C/C++ API i have to use to access tables from the remote oracle server?
Oracle provides a C/C++ API as a pre-processor, called Pro*C. I suspect this si way beyond what you want right now.
4) please help me i am new to oracle .

Getting exception ORA-12705 while trying to connect to database from forms 9i
Hello All,
I have installed 9i database and I gave path for oracle home as Oracle_path while installing. then I installed 9i dev suite, Installer forced me to use different Oracle home, so I gave Odev_path as path.
I have created server alias name from dev suite to Oracle database and I could connect to database from froms 9i. suddenly it started giving me the following exception when I try to connect database from forms 9i.
ORA-12705 invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified
could some one help toresolve the issue.
Thanks in advance
RajI have already seen this document and tried it out, but it didn't work. And I have tried out numerous other tips that I have found in different places on the web.
Is the client installation of any relevance? I notice that this user has a different installation from the one that I have, and that he amongst other things doesn't have sql plus installed. -
How to Connect Database Using Script?
Hi all,
Am using Adobe InDesign CS3. Is there any way to connect database from Adobe InDesign CS3 Scripting (Javascript)? Thanks in advance.
Regards,
MohanI don't know javascript so I can't help with that part.
The system plug in you need is from Actual Technologies : http://www.actualtechnologies.com/ The setup for that is detailed in their instructions. You will probably want to set it up for system-wide access, not by user. I found system-wide access more reliable, fwiw.
For Applescript I send a command through the Terminal/command line that returns the data from the query.
Here is Applescript:
set query to "YOUR DB QUERY"
set results to (do shell script "echo \"" & query & "\" | iodbctest \"dsn=" & dsn & ";uid=" & uid & ";pwd=" & pwd & "\" | awk '{ if (match($0,\"SQL>\")) {k++; if (k==1) next; if (k==2) exit; } if (k==1) print; }'")
You can probably do something similar in Javascript. You'll have to parse out the text data returned then. I think there may be plug-ins for InDesign that can directly connect to a database (?). Or some plug-ins like inData can take their data passed from a script as well.

Trying to access 10gr2 database from sqlplus utility but it connects to 11g
Hi All,
I am facing below issue while access 10gr2 database from sqlplus.
I am having two oracle homes on one server one belongs to 11gr2 and another belongs to 10gr2.
I want to access a 10gr2 database through sqlplus utility.but instaed of connecting to 10gr2 it is connecting to 11gr2 after I enter a user name and passowrd.
I have set all the env variables such as oracle_home ,oracle_sid and path with respect to Oracle 10gr2.
Can you please let me kno what I need to do to connect to 10gr2 database and not 11gr2 database through sql plus.
Let me know if I need to give any more details on this.
Best Regards,
Dipti SHi Rocky,
I got the resolution.
I made a mistake by creating an oracle instance/service(e.g. fsdmo) when Oracle_home was pointing to 11gR2 Directory.so that service was refering to 11gr2 oracle home.
hence when I was setting oracle_sid(fsdmo) and trying to access database instance from 11g sqlplus utility ,it was directing to 11g and not 10g since oracle service was pointing to 11g.
So now after chnaging the oracle home directory to 11g,I am creating a service and its working fine.
thank you so much for responding.
hope I am clear with my reply.
Best Regards,

How can I connect to a database from ipaq with cldc??
how can I connect to a database from ipaq with cldc??
Hi Again
There is a library by Mimer which allows you do connect to a Mimer SQL Server, don't know must about it, but here is a link.
http://developer.mimer.com/
If that doesn't suit you, I suspect that you will have to use some sort of proxy solution. Either by creating a servlet to accept the sql string you want to send, or by creating your own custom proxy server running J2EE. The servlet or the proxy server must be able to receive an SQL String, do the query to the actual database and return the results in some sort of format to the mobile device. Maybe just a space delimited string.
Hope this helps
