Connecting from linux to linux-help me on thjis asap please

Hi all,
I want to know how we conect linux machine from another linux machine remotely(This is basically for connecting home to office computer).In windows i used putty and used the following steps to connect it.But how do i do it in linux please advise with steps.
steps to connect from windows:
Steps to create VPN connection
1) go to mynetowrks , click on view connection, click on Create connection
2) select Connect to network (using VPN) click on next
3) select VPN connection click next
4) Give ip address 61.85.76.56 and open putty and i give my system ip 26.0.0.45 and
i can just give username and password and started working remotely.Please advise how to do the same in linux.Thanks in advance.

I did a google search for putty and found that putty is an ssh client.  The Arch ssh program is openssh.  Once you have it installed, do a
man ssh
and search for 'virtual' or 'vpn'.  Follow the examples there.

  • Help with Oracle 10g Client Connectivity from Linux to IBM SAN storage

    Hello Oracle Experts,
    This is my first post. My client is having oracle 10g database up and running in IBM SAN storage.
    We have some NMS tools running in Red Hat Linux version 5. So, these tools require connectivity to Oracle database which is residing in SAN storage connected with the Fibre cables.
    How do I establish the connectivity from Linux to SAN storage. If would be glad if you can explain me the steps and also if there is any pre-installation/post-installation, patches and procedures involved.
    If it is IP based network we normally give the IP address of the host running the database server. I have no idea about SAN storage connected with Fibre cable.
    Please guide me to establish the connectivity from linux 5 to SAN.
    Thanks.

    RaviShankar.

    Hi Rajesh,
    Actually I will not be touching the Oracle instance SAN box directly. I will only access the database from another machine. I my case it is Linux box.
    So, my question is how do you make the Oracle Client in Linux box to connect to Oracle instance running in another non ip based machine SAN storage.Install Oracle client on this Linux machine ..
    Make sure you have network connectivity from linux machine to database server. You need to connect to server where db instance is running and you need not to bother about SAN storage.
    make tns entry into client $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file.
    Use sqlplus to connect to database using client.

  • Can't connect from Linux machine to Mac

    Hello,
    Having trouble connecting from a linux machine (Fedora Core 4) to my mac. I see the mac in the "Network" dialog box ("Places->Connect to Server" on Gnome). When i try to connect to it, i get the authentication required dialog, put my info in, but no dice.
    Any ideas?

    Very strange. When do you get the permission denied message? Do you get the prompt to enter a password?
    Are both users admins? There may be some restrictions for non admin users.
    My guess is that either you don't enter the right username or password or IP (but I guess you triple verified that a million times already?), or that you already have modified some configuration of the Mac. ssh should work out of the box, after you enable it, but there are ways to invalidate it.
    If you do
    <pre>
    ls -al /usr/bin/ssh
    </pre>
    what do you get?
    </pre>

    Ensure your listener is properly configured and started. Check the listener's address and verify you can tnsping it with the tnsping command:
    tnsping orcl
    On the other side, make sure your tnsnames.ora file on the client side has properly configured the address where the listener is located.

    Oracle has been installed in Win server 2003 as server.
    i have Ubuntu 12.04 and i want to connect to OraDB server. For that you need the very same thing as you need on a Windows client - an Oracle client driver. The easiest to install (where install means unzipping and use) is Oracle's Instant Client.
    The very same install method (unzipping) applies to both Windows and Linux. Optionally, you can also create a tnsnames.ora file if you want to make use of aliases to lookup connection strings.
    in winXP i am using PL/SQL developer and i need any free and Open source software in ubuntu to connect to OraDB serve. is there any software?SQL*Plus is also available for Instant Client as an additional download. Always a good idea to have the definitive command line interface client to Oracle.
    SQL-Developer is also available from Oracle for free. Again, the installation instructions for Windows and Linux are basically identical. Download the base install if you have Java already installed. Or download the version that includes the Java run-time for running SQL-Developer.
    There's also a TOAD-like tool available for Linux and Windows called TOra. It supports Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Teradata databases.

  • Playbook Spazzes Out When Connected from HDMI to TV - Help

    I have tried this a handful of times before and after OS2 released, hoping the new OS would be the fix. Whenever I connect my playbook by HDMI to my TV, it spazzes out completely. The playbook will open web pages, open and chage settings in the main menu, open applications... It is just doing a lot of "ghost" activity very quickly. I cannot find much info out on the web about similar issues. Playbook never does this in any other circumstances and my TV is new and works fine on other devices. HDMI cable is also new and works with other devices.
    I appreciate the help of any Blackberry Gurus out there!

    Is your tv grounded properly? Are you using the supplied playbook charger? Or just hdmi when this happens? I know weird stuff happens when using the wrong charger, my wife tried to use a LG charger and it did weird stuff like that. The output was real dirty on a scope.

  • Help in production environment ASAP please

    Hello,
    I'm in a middle of a problem right now on our production environment.
    I need to read and compare the information inside a long datatype column.
    To do this I use the following function to read the long field:
    create or replace function getlong_vw( p_tname in varchar2,
    p_cname in varchar2,
    p_cname2 in varchar2) return varchar2
    as
    l_cursor integer default dbms_sql.open_cursor;
    l_n number;
    l_long_val varchar2(32767);
    l_long_len number;
    l_buflen number := 4000;
    l_curpos number := 0;
    l_pos_start number := 1;
    counter integer := 0;
    l_long_txt varchar2(32767);
    begin
    dbms_sql.parse( l_cursor,
    'select ' || p_cname || ' from ' || p_tname ||
    ' where view_name = :x',
    dbms_sql.native );
    dbms_sql.bind_variable( l_cursor, ':x', p_cname2 );
    dbms_sql.define_column_long(l_cursor, 1);
    l_n := dbms_sql.execute(l_cursor);
    if (dbms_sql.fetch_rows(l_cursor)>0)
    then
    dbms_sql.column_value_long(l_cursor, 1, l_buflen, l_curpos ,
    l_long_val, l_long_len );
    end if;
    dbms_sql.close_cursor(l_cursor);
    return l_long_val;
    end getlong;
    But with this, I can only read the first 4000 bytes inside the long field.
    What I need, is read more then that, eventually until the 32Kb limit.
    So I try to use a while loop before the column_value_long and put the data inside a 32Kb varchar2 variable and return in the end
    Something like :
    if (dbms_sql.fetch_rows(l_cursor)>0)
    then
    while l_pos_start <= 32767 loop
    dbms_sql.column_value_long(l_cursor, l_pos_start, l_buflen, 0 ,
    l_long_val, l_long_len );
    l_pos_start := l_pos_start+l_buflen;
    l_long_txt := l_long_txt||l_long_val;
    end loop;
    end if;
    dbms_sql.close_cursor(l_cursor);
    return l_long_txt;
    end getlong;
    But I keep getting the error ORA-01007: variable not in select list
    Can anyone help me, what I'm doing wrong?
    How can I return the value inside a long field until the 32Kb and not only the first 4000 bytes?
    Thank you very much in advance
    Rui

    Sorry guys,
    Keith is right, I mess up the code when I made the copy paste.
    This is the current function code:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION Getlong
    (p_tname IN VARCHAR2,
    p_cname IN VARCHAR2,
    p_rowid IN ROWID)
    RETURN VARCHAR2
    AS
    l_cursor INTEGER DEFAULT dbms_sql.open_cursor;
    l_n NUMBER;
    l_long_val VARCHAR2(32767);
    l_long_len NUMBER;
    l_buflen NUMBER := 4000;
    l_curpos NUMBER := 0;
    l_pos_start NUMBER := 1;
    counter INTEGER := 0;
    l_long_txt VARCHAR2(32767);
    BEGIN
    dbms_sql.Parse(l_cursor,'select '
    ||p_cname
    ||' from '
    ||p_tname
    ||' where rowid = :x',dbms_sql.native);
    dbms_sql.Bind_variable(l_cursor,':x',p_rowid);
    dbms_sql.Define_column_long(l_cursor,1);
    l_n := dbms_sql.Execute(l_cursor);
    IF (dbms_sql.Fetch_rows(l_cursor) &gt; 0) THEN
    WHILE l_pos_start &lt;= 32767 LOOP
    dbms_sql.Column_value_long(l_cursor,l_pos_start,l_buflen,0,l_long_val,
    l_long_len);
    l_pos_start := l_pos_start + l_buflen;
    l_long_txt := l_long_txt
    ||l_long_val;
    END LOOP;
    END IF;
    dbms_sql.Close_cursor(l_cursor);
    RETURN l_long_txt;
    END getlong;
    If I have the while loop function comment, the function works well and return the first 4000 charaters of the long field.
    If I try to use the while to get more characters I get the ORA-01007: variable not in select list
    What I'm doing wrong?
    Thank You

  • Flex and Linux help

    I have some socket code that works fine in Windows and Mac.
    However, the socket
    wont connect or
    throw an error in the Linux flash player (debug or normal).
    Below is a code fragment. I can't find any reference to any special
    circumstances for Linux. If I am doing something wrong, then some
    help would be greatly appreciated.
    import flash.net.Socket;
    import flash.events.IOErrorEvent;
    import flash.events.SecurityErrorEvent;
    import flash.system.Security;
    private var socket: Socket = new Socket();

    ipPort: int = 8000): void
    // event for when the server connection is established.
    socket.addEventListener( Event.CONNECT, onConnect );
    // event for when the server closes the socket.
    socket.addEventListener( Event.CLOSE, onClose );
    // event for when there is an I/O error event logged during
    connection.
    socket.addEventListener( IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onIOError );
    // event for when there is an security error event logged
    during connection.
    socket.addEventListener( SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR,
    onSecurityError );
    // Listen for when data is received from the socket server
    socket.addEventListener( ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA,
    onSocketData );
    try
    trace( "Trying to connect (" + ipAddress + ": " + ipPort +
    socket.connect( ipAddress, ipPort );
    catch( error: SecurityError )
    trace( "socket.connect error" + error );
    catch( error: IOError )
    trace( "socket.connect error" + error );
    trace( "socket.connected = " + socket.connected );

    Turns out it was a bug in the Flash player. The beta player
    released on 21st of August 2007 successfully connects from
    Linux.

  • No Listener From Linux

    Dear Friend,
    I have installed oracle on linux and configure the tns and listener.ora , now I can connect from Linux oracle database to Windows oracle database but I can connect
    from windows database to Linux database its giving me this error "No Listener" and I configured the tns in windows also, any comment will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Oracle User.

    Have you started the listener on the linux machine? In windows, it mabe starting automatically (SERVICE). In linux you need to start manually.
    Do a "ps --ef |grep tns" on the linux machine command line and see the output. It should show one process. If not, do this
    lsnrctl
    start listener <<listener_name>>
    If you don't provide the listener name, a default listener with the name "LISTENER" will be started.
    Hope this helps

  • Connect from workstation using local credentials

    How can I still allow users from W7 workstations to use a "net share" using the WebServer's credentials?
    What we were doing was:

    I can not find how to allow this to happen in the Local Security Policy settings.
