Connecting Linux to Windows NT oracle Databases

Help-
I am trying to connect linux based Websites with an oracle
Database running on WinNt... I am not sure what I have to do
exactly, I know with Sybase you have to download a certain set
of Libs and Rpms, but I am not sure what the deal with oracle

Thanks for the help in advance.

You need to install SQL*Net on the linux machines, and configure
them to talk to the server.
In turn, to get the SQL*Net client for Linux, you need to get
(download) or already have the whole database install...

    Hi , I dont know if u got the answer but couple of things i wanted to let u know.
    1. the driver u r using make it a thin driver as u r specifying that in the url .
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/winsoft.html
    loading class 'oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver'
    and url u have to change a little, this depends on the driver u use.

  • Connect sqlplus in windows to oracle in linux

    Hi..
    I have Oracle Databse 9i for Linux in my PC (used REDHAT ENTERPRISE 3.0).I have installed oracle developer in windows 2000 in the other PC.But i couldn't connected from oracle developer 6 in windows 2000 to Oracle 9i in linux.I have configured tnsnames&listener in linux and they have worked.And i have configured tnsnames in windows too
    The messange when i have tried to connected to oracle database by sqlplus :
    "unable to connect to destination"
    What must i do to make this connection work....?

    Thank's for responding my question.
    My Client PC can ping server (redhat entriprese 3).
    Maybe,it better if i write in here about listener and tnsnames :
    Listener :
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = OraLite)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC))
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = S92A)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /server/oracle/9.2.1)
    (SID_NAME = I92A)
    Tnsnames.ora :
    S92A.world=
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (Port = 1521)
         (Host = 10.14.4.140))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER=DEDICATED)
    (SID = I92A)
    It is something wrong with my listener and tnsnamse script.
    By the way,my listener is working.
    In local, i can enter into sqlplus(external and internal)
    But when i used client.
    There is a massage :
    ERROR:
    ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination
    What is going on with my oracle
    thank's for reply my question.

  • ORA-12154 Connection error from HFM to Oracle Database

    Hi,
    I am trying to configure Hyperion HFM but can write to HFM database.
    The implementation architecture:
    Hyperion 11.1.2.2 (with all the requiered patches for HFM, FDM, Shared Services, Workspace and Oracle Application Development)
    Server 1:
    Windows Server 2008 x64
    Installed products: Foundation (EPMA, CalcManager), BI, HFM web components and ADM driver
    Configured products: Foundation(EPMA, CalcManager), BI.
    Database Client: 11gR2 x64
    Server 2:
    Windows Server 2008 x64
    Installed products: HFM, FDQM
    Configured Products: FDQM, HFM
    Database Client: 11gR2 x32, 11gR2 x64 (x32 version installed first)
    Server 3:
    Database: Oracle 11.2.0.2
    All the products from server 1 are working fine, FDQM (server 2) is also working fine, but, when I try to do any action related with HFM database the system fails.
    I have tested the connection is these scenarios:
    1. SQLdeveloper: successfull!, I can create tables, views, etc. Double checking the user privileges it has all the required.
    2. tnsping: successfull!
    3. HFMApplicationCopy utility: Successfull using UDL file and writing the connection parameters.
    4. EPM System Configurator: the configurator successfully validates the database connection information, but does not create the tables on the database. No errors in the configtool log.
    5. EPM Diagnostic Tool: fails with this error message:

    Hi,
    I Have solved one of my problems, the one that keep HFM from connecting to the Oracle database.
    I just change the TNSNAMES.ORA, like this:
    Initial tnsnames.ora
    PRUEBA.WORLD=
    +(DESCRIPTION_LIST =+
    +(DESCRIPTION =+
    +(LOAD_BALANACE = ON)+
    +(FAILOVER = ON)+
    +(ADDRESS_LIST =+
    +(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <server_name>)(PORT = <port>))+
    +)+
    +(CONNECT_DATA =+
    +(SERVICE_NAME = <service_name>)+
    +)+
    +)+
    +)+
    Modified tnsnames.ora
    PRUEBA.WORLD=
    +(DESCRIPTION =+
    +(LOAD_BALANACE = ON)+
    +(FAILOVER = ON)+
    +(ADDRESS_LIST =+
    +(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <server_name>)(PORT = <port>))+
    +)+
    +(CONNECT_DATA =+
    +(SERVICE_NAME = <service_name>)+
    +)+
    +)+
    I Just delete the line "+(DESCRIPTION_LIST =+" and its corresponding closing parenthesis, I did this cause in the configuration utility log I saw this line:
    +TNS parsing: Entry: DESCRIPTION_LIST [[Address: Protocol:(TCP) Host:(<server_name>) Port:(1521) SID:(<service_name>)]]+
    So, if the applications were trying to connect to connection descriptor DESCRIPTION_LIST, the driver could not recognize DESCRIPTION_LIST as a valid one.
    There is a lot going on behind the scenes when you work with Oracle Database as the repository, maybe there is some other way to address this issue, but it worked for me, hope it can help you too.

  • Connection issue from sqldeveloper to Oracle Database 10g

    Please let me know What should i do i want to start my practice sessions on sqldeveloper
    I am new in Oracle pl/sql development
    Please guide me on this.........................

    SQLDeveloper 3.0 production is supplied with the thin driver 11.2.0.2
    it needs 11.2.0.2 version to use thick which has a few additional features over thin.
    To avoid confusion with other Oracle software you can set the ORACLE_HOME in the session you start sqldeveloper in as described below:
    The version mismatch is often because SQLDeveloper is trying to use the 'thick' driver and 11.2.0.2 thick is not available,
    try
    thin by:
    1/(uncheck Tools->preferences->Datababae->advanced->use OCI/thick driver, and
    2/If necessary, set ORACLE_HOME for your cmd.exe session where sqldev is started from to where sqldeveloper is where %ORACLE_HOME%\jdbc\lib exists, (so SQLDeveloper does not try your existing ORACLE_HOME) and
    3/If using connection type TNS, use Connection Type TNS -> Network Alias.
    4/You may need to set Tools->preferences->Datababase->advanced->Tnsname directory to the directory containing tnsnames.ora

  • Error connecting Visual C# app to Oracle database

    I'm trying to write a simple web form that will display some info from an Oracle 9 database.
    I've downloaded the ODP for .net (the 10g version) and this allows me to set up an OracleDataProvider. However, when I try to configure this I get the following error message:
    "The connection could not be opened because of the following error: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    I've then tried to use the OleDbAdapter, and while I can configure this to point to my database (and when I bind the datagrid I see all the column names from the table that I'm querying) when I try to view the web form and see the data that I want I get an unspecified Oracle error.
    Do I need to install anything on the Oracle database to make this work? Does that fact that I'm using the 10g ODP mean that this won't work?

    Most likely, your connection string does not match an entry in your tnsnames.ora file.
    Your connection string should look somewhat like this:
    dsn=oracle_service_name;user id=userid;password=password;
    You could also place your tnsnames entry in the dsn field.

  • Agent Connection to Instance error in Oracle Database 11G EM

    Hi
    I am getting the following error message when logging into EM on Oracle 11G Database.
    Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
    Users can connect to the database no problem and it shows the Database Instance down, Agent Connection to Instance failed. The General tab shows green and the database is up.
    I have checked the emctl status and lsnrctl commands and the listener is up and servicing the database. I checked the ORACLE_SID environment (in Windows Server 2003) and this is correct.
    I have recently changed the passwords for SYSMAN and DBNSMP which were due to expire and since then the EM console has not loaded correctly.
    As I said the database is up and can service users through their application.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Respect.

    Hi
    The listener is up and is handling the database and users are connecting succesfully. I think it is more to do with the Enterprise Manager.
    Can anyone give me some further info to troubleshoot?
    Regards
    Spencer

    Hello,
    I am attempting to create a connection to an Oracle 10 database in Universe Designer.  I am currently running Business Objects XI 3.1 SP3 on a 32 bit machine.  I have the Oracle client installed.  In Universe Designer when I attempt to create a new connection using the Oracle 10 client I receive the following error.
    CS:DBDriver failed to load : C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\dataAccess\connectionServer\dbd_oci.dll (The specified module could not be found.)
    The dbd_oci.dll file does exist in the directory listed above.  Has anyone encountered this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Brock,
              Do you have multiple SQL clients installed on your system? If so, uninstall the previous versions. Check if the PATH variable is set to correct bin path and then try testing it again.

    With Oracle 10.2.0.2... but with 10.2.0.1?
    I made "nobody" user member of the "oinstall" group (bad idea, i know), but still it doesn't works...

    G.7.1 Backing Up a 32-Bit Oracle Database
    To back up a 32-bit Oracle home database:
    Start SQL*Plus:
    C:\> sqlplus /NOLOG
    Connect to the database instance as SYSDBA:
    SQL> CONNECT / AS SYSDBA;
    Create a .trc file to use as a template to re-create the control files on the 64-bit computer:
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE;
    Shut down the database:
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    Perform a full offline backup of the database.

    G.7.2 Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database
    To migrate an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 32-bit Windows to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
    Install Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) for 64-bit Windows.

    Oracle Database Installation Guide for Windows
    Create the new Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) service at the command prompt:
    C:\> ORADIM -NEW -SID SID [-INTPWD PASSWORD ]-MAXUSERS USERS
    -STARTMODE AUTO -PFILE ORACLE_HOME\DATABASE\INITSID.ORA
    The following table provides more information on the values you must supply.
    Parameter      Description
    SID     SID of the database you are upgrading
    PASSWORD     Password for the new Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) for 64-bit Windows database. This is the password for the user connected with SYSDBA privileges. The -INTPWD option is not required. If you do not specify it, then operating system authentication is used, and no password is required.
    USERS     Maximum number of users who can be granted SYSDBA and SYSOPER privileges
    ORACLE_HOME     Oracle home directory. Ensure that you specify the full path name with the -PFILE option, including drive letter of the Oracle home directory.
    Copy the 32-bit datafiles to the new 64-bit Oracle home.
    Copy the 32-bit configuration files to the 64-bit Oracle home.
    If your 32-bit initialization parameter file has an IFILE (include file) entry, then copy the file specified by the IFILE entry to the 64-bit Oracle home and edit the IFILE entry in the initialization parameter file to point to its new location.
    If you have a password file that resides in the 32-bit Oracle home, then copy the password file to the 64-bit Oracle home. The default 32-bit password file is located in ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\database\pwdSID.ora., where SID is your Oracle instance ID.
    In the 64-bit Oracle home, add the _SYSTEM_TRIG_ENABLED = false parameter to the ORACLE_HOME\database\ORACLE_SID \init.ora file before changing the word size.
    Remove this parameter from the initialization file after the word size change is complete.

    Go to the 64-bit ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin directory from the command prompt.
    Start SQL*Plus:
    C:\> sqlplus /NOLOG
    Connect to the database instance as SYSDBA:
    SQL> CONNECT / AS SYSDBA;
    Re-create the 64-bit control files using the CREATE CONTROLFILE command. Edit the trace file created in "Backing Up a 32-Bit Oracle Database" to change the paths to the datafiles, log files and control files to point to the Oracle home on the 64-bit computer. This creates the new control file in ORACLE_HOME\database.
    Here is an example of a database named "orcl32" on a 32-bit computer migrating to "orcl64" on a 64-bit computer:
    CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "T1" NORESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG
        MAXLOGFILES 32
        MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
        MAXDATAFILES 32
        MAXINSTANCES 16
        MAXLOGHISTORY 1815
    LOGFILE
        GROUP 1 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\REDO03.LOG'  SIZE 1M,
        # was   'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl32\...LOG'
        # on the 32-bit computer
        GROUP 2 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\REDO02.LOG'  SIZE 1M,
        GROUP 3 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\REDO01.LOG'  SIZE 1M
    DATAFILE
       'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\SYSTEM01.DBF',
        # was 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl32\...DBF'
        # on the 32-bit computer
       'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\RBS01.DBF',
       'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\USERS01.DBF',
       'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\TEMP01.DBF',
       'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\TOOLS01.DBF',
       'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\INDX01.DBF',
       'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\DR01.DBF'
    CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1;
    Alter the init file from the 32-bit computer to include the new control file generated in the preceding step.
    Start the database in RESTRICT mode:
    SQL> STARTUP RESTRICT;
    You might need to use the PFILE option to specify the location of your initialization parameter file.
    Set the system to spool results to a log file for later verification of success. For example:
    SQL> SPOOL catoutw.log
    Enter the following command to view the output of the script on-screen:
    SQL> SET ECHO ON;
    Recompile existing PL/SQL modules in the format required by the 64-bit Oracle9i database:
    SQL> @utlirp.sql;
    Turn off the spooling of script results to the log file:
    SQL> SPOOL OFF;
    Check the spool file and verify that the packages and procedures compiled successfully. Correct any problems you find in this file.
    If you were viewing the output of catoutw.log on-screen, disable viewing now:
    SQL> SET ECHO OFF;
    Exit the RESTRICT database mode:
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
    The word size of the 64-bit Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database is changed. You can open the database for normal use.This is from the link

  • Connect to Oracle database from SQL Sever

    Can you help on an issue of connection from SQL Server to Oracle database:
    In SQL Server, I create a "linked server" to connect to Oracle database on a different machine. But it will take a unreasonable time (about 30 seconds) to call a Oracle query from SQL Server.

    No there are no entries required in the TNSNAMES.ORA
    When you are using ODBC for connection, Oracle does not look fo rany enteries in TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    Now I am able to connect to both SQL Plus and Forms 6i. But while connecting to SQL Plus its giving an error
    Error accessing PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE
    Warning: Product user profile information not loaded!
    You may need to run PUPBLD.SQL as SYSTEM
    Server not available or version too low for this feature
    Connected to:
    Oracle Open Client Adapter for ODBC 6.0.5.35.0
    Microsoft SQL Server 08.00.0534
    Also while disconnecting the Windows Program Error comes, and the application closes abruptly.
