Connecting NX5548 with c3560 switch.

Hi,
I have an issue with setting up access connection between nexus5548 and c3560switch.
- both switches are connected with ethernet cable
- used gig0/3 port on 3560 with plugged in electrical SFP
- used TenGig port Eth1/15 on n5k with plugged inn electrical SFP and speed manually set to 1000Mb
- when this done c3560 shows port status "connected" while status on n5k port is "notconnected" ???
- tried connecting with cross cable (since manually changed speed might disable auto-mdix feature) - without success
Anyone experience same behavior? What am I doing wrong :) Note - I'm new for nexus...

  • WRT54G not connecting properly with Netgear switch

I have a WRT54Gv4 which I've been using as both a WAP and a wired switch. I now have too many wired devices to plug into the built-in switch, so I tried to expand the WRT54G using a Netgear FS108 8-port switch. The WRT54G and the FS108 both work perfectly well when not connected to each other, but all hell breaks loose as soon as I plug them together. If I plug the cable into a regular port on the FS108, then the "network activity" light on the corresponding WRT54G port blinks rapidly and continuously. If I plug the cable into the uplink port on the FS108, then the "network activity" light on the FS108 port blinks rapidly and continuously. I get around 50% packet loss trying to communicate between a computer plugged into the WRT54G and another computer plugged into the FS108. I've already tried 3 different cables between the WRT54G and the FS108, and all have exhibited the same problem. I have also tried all kinds of power cycling of the different devices, and nothing I have done has worked.
    So I have two questions:
    1) Has anyone successfully connected a Netgear FS108 to a WRT54G? If so, how did you do it?
    2) Has anyone successfully used a Linksys SD208 or EZXS88W switch with a WRT54G? I'm going to buy one of these to replace the FS108 if nobody can answer the first question.
    Thanks.

If you have McAfee anti-virus, then I guarantee IT IS a McAfee + Vista issue. In the Firewall settings for Vista, enable Peer-to-Peer and add and enable ports TCP 5357, TCP 5358, UDP 3702, TCP 2869, UDP 1900, UDP 137, UDP 138, TCP 139, TCP 445. THEN, disable Vista Firewall and enable McAfee Firewall. Click on Internet & Network Protection and then Configure. This is where the McAfee Firewall protection is enabled. Click on the Advanced tab. Click on Grant Full Access and apply. Click OK, close out and reboot. Your system will utilize the McAfee Firewall and not the Microsoft one, and as long as you have WAP encryption and a private network, your Linksys router will allow printer and file sharing and be protected.

  • Duplex Mismatch when connecting ip phone with 2950 switch

When I connect my Cisco IP Phone 7960 with 2950 Switch (any access port within voice vlan), I get the message on Port duplex mismatch but the phone works properly.
From my switch the speed setting is 100/Full but from the Phone its Auto.
My Question is when I try to change duplex settings from Phone, it doesn't gives me any option instead only one option available to save so kindly someone tell me the best way to fix this from Phone or do I have to change the duplex from switch to AUTO ?

Thanks but When I connect with my Cisco 2950 Switch, I can see the weird kind of language as per my attachment.
It wasn't yesterday when I first configured from scratch but just seen today.
Switch is working good with Cisco IP phone connected with it.

  • Can't connect to Dlink GigE switch at 1000Mbps with built-in wired

I can connect to the switch automatically at 100Mbps or manually at 100 Mbps, but when I try to set the speed manually to 1000Mbps I get no light on the switch port and no connection. Cable is cat 5e, all 8 wires are in connector properly and tests good.
    Switch is Dlink DGS-2208.
I've tried removing uplink 100Mbps connection going to router and only leaving a Windows box on that is connected fine at 1000Mbps with no luck either.
    Any ideas anyone ?
    Thanks.

First, you'll want to configure your connection to configure automatically; the adapter will negotiate the fastest speed possible with the switch. The only real reason to configure a connection manually is if you want to connect at a SLOWER speed than that automatically negotiated.
The cable is suspect. I've purchased several cat 5e cables that simply won't allow me to connect at 1g. Try picking up a high quality cat 6 patch cable and see if that helps - they aren't that expensive and are available pretty much everywhere (target, wal-mart, and office depot carry them routinely)
I routinely connect to a Netgear GS605NA 10/100/1000 switch at 1g speeds with both my macbook pro and mac pro. Mac pro uses belkin cat 6 6' snagless patch cables, MAcbook pro is currently connected with a belkin 6' cat 5e cable.

  • 1142N NON_CISCO-NO_CDP_RECEIVED with 3560 switch

I thought the 3560 switches, the 8 port and 24 port are 802.3af standard switches?  When I connect 1142N radios to them I get the no cdp error and the radios are disabled. I have 17 of these that I converted to LAP, and I got the issue both before and after upgrading to LAP from AP.  It's not like I disabled CDP on the switches.

I may have found the problem. I thought I had initially connected to a switchport that was just setup as a switchport access vlan, with no other configurations on it, and after looking at the port found it was a trunk port, which should work, and does for the other AP's I worked with, but not the 1142N.
I took one of the other AP's that is connected to the test switch I am using to setup the WLC and AP's and connected that to one of the unconfigured ports, with default settings and the radios both powered up and I saw CDP neighbor detail,
I removed spanning-tree portfast from the trunk port, and reconnected the AP to that port, I saw it negotiated full power, but I dont see neighbor information. I had to console in and do a no shut on dot11radio 0 for it to come up on all 3 of them.
I went back and pulled that new one out of the box and reconnected to the interface I used before after removing portfast, still had the same problem, then removed the trunk configuration, and rebooted. Now I see
    *Mar  1 00:14:19.266: %CDP_PD-2-POWER_LOW: All radios disabled - NEGOTIATED WS-C3560-8PC
    Fa0/6     auto   on         14.5    AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9   3     15.4
I took one of the other AP's that I boxed up and connected it to the same port, this was a converted AP to LAP.
    Fa0/6     auto   on         15.4    AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9   3     15.4
Futher puzzlement, plugged that last AP into the test switch which is setup to mimic a remote location with trunk ports for FlexConnect, and after the radio powered up, and joined the controller, saw this.

  • ErrDisable at SFP Interface between C3750 with C3560

    Hello,
Requirement: connecting 2 lan switches with SFP cable.
The LAN Switches to be connected are: C3560-24TS+2SFP with C3750-24TS+2SFP
    Cable SFP: CAB-SFP-50CM-cable
when the installation is done, the error show up in the SFP interface, as below:
Port      Name               Status       Vlan       Duplex  Speed Type
    Gi1/0/1                      err-disabled 1            auto   auto unknown
    Test_Switch#sh interfaces status err-disabled
suspected err is from the cable, which is not working for both lan switch.
    Port      Name               Status       Reason
    Gi1/0/1                      err-disabled gbic-invalid
Question: what type of cabling is suitable/compatible to be used for connecting 2 different types of lan switches?
Run the errdisable recovery but not help much.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hira

    Hi
As I understand it, you can only use that cable with 3560s:
    http://www9.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note09186a00800a7af7.shtml#patch-cable
Quote 'The Catalyst 3560 switch supports the SFP module patch cable, a 1/2 meter, copper, passive cable with SFP module connectors at each end. The patch cable can connect two Catalyst 3560 switches in a cascaded configuration. '

  • Server loses internet connection after creating virtual switch in hyper-v

On a fresh Server 2012R2 Essentials install, I set up Hyper-v and created an external virtual switch. Connection to the vm is good but Health Report no shows loss of internet connectivity and that the router is incorrectly setup.
However, I still have a working internet connection? I worry that the server may not update or allow Anywhere Access at some time. Any suggestions? Thanks

If Hyper-V virtual switch behaves strange and server is destined for testing, then it's correct and I recomend delete this virtual switch and create it again.

  • How to provide access to multiple users connected to a Dumb switch? (multi-auth/multi-domain)

    Good morning everybody,
I am writing on behalf of not being able to implement a desired outcome in our company network. In fact the situation is as follows:
What I want to do is to be able to authenticate users (802.1x authentication) in our company radius server and authorize them access by having a dynamic VLAN assignment in a multi-user environment on one and the same port of a Cisco 2960 switch. So far, the authentication and authorization has been working completely smoothly (there are no problems with itself). The concept involves the configuration of both DATA and VOICE VLANs as I there is also phone authentication implemented. In order to simulate this environment I introduce a Dumb switch connected to my Cisco 2960 Catalyst.
What I have successfully managed to get to work so far is this:
    1) On one switch port I have tried the “authentication host-mode multi-domain” and it worked perfectly for a PC behind a telephone, or with one PC connected to a the dumb switch + the telephone connected to another port of the dumb switch. Logically it is the same situation as there is a separation in two domains – DATA and VOICE. Bellow is an output from show authentication sessions for this scenario.
Interface  MAC Address     Method   Domain   Status         Session ID
    Fa0/23     0021.9b62.b79b  dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F3008E (user1)
    Fa0/23     0015.655c.b912  dot1x    VOICE    Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F9009F (phone)
    2) On the other hand, when I try the same scenario with the “authentication host-mode multi-auth”, the switch still separates the traffic in two domains and is able to authenticate all users, AS LONG AS they are in the same VLAN.
    show authentication sessions:
Interface  MAC Address     Method   Domain   Status         Session ID
    Fa0/23     0021.9b62.b79b  dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F3008E (user1)
    Fa0/23     b888.e3eb.ebac   dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F8008C (user2)
    Fa0/23     0015.655c.b912  dot1x    VOICE    Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F9009F (phone)
However, I cannot succeed authentication of many users from DIFFERENT VLANs, neither in multi-auth nor in multi-domain modes.
What I want to get is an output like this:
Interface  MAC Address     Method   Domain   Status         Session ID
    Fa0/23     0021.9b62.b79b  dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F3008E (user1)
    Fa0/23     b888.e3eb.ebac dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F8008C (user2)
    Fa0/23     0015.655c.b912  dot1x    VOICE    Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F9009F (phone)
I want the switch to authenticate the users anytime they connect to itself and for them to have an instant access to the network. (I tell this because I tried scenario 1) with multi-domain mode and authentication violation replace, and it worked but, two users never had access to the “Internet” simultaneously!!!
The configuration of the interface connected to the Dumb switch is as follows.
    interface FastEthernet0/x
     description Connection to DUMBswitch
     switchport mode access
     switchport voice vlan XXX
     switchport port-security maximum 10
     switchport port-security
     switchport port-security violation protect
     authentication host-mode multi-auth
     authentication priority dot1x
     authentication port-control auto
     authentication timer reauthenticate 4000
     authentication violation replace
     dot1x pae authenticator
     dot1x timeout tx-period 10
     spanning-tree portfast
The way I see it is explained in the following steps:
    - PC1 connects to the Dumb switch. This causes the Cisco switch to authenticate user1. This creates an auth. session with its MAC address linked to a domain DATA.
    - When PC2 connects to the Dumb switch, this causes the violation replace which replaces the recent authenticated MAC address with the MAC of PC2. I would like it once authenticated to appear in the authentication sessions with a link to a new DATA domain linked to the VLAN assigned from the RADIUS server.
Is this possible? I think (in theory) this is the only way to provide authenticated access to multiple users connecting through Dumb switch to the network.
Has anybody ever succeeded in such a configuration example and if yes, I would be love to get some help in doing so?
    Thank you
    Stoimen Hristov

    Hi Stoimen,
I have done a setup similar to yours with the only exception being VLAN assignment. When I used dACLs only, it makes things somewhat easier as the VLAN no longer matters. Remember that the switchport is in access mode and will only allow a single VLAN across it (with the exception of the voice VLAN). I think that is the real cause of your problem.
From what I can see, you have 2 options available to you:
    1) Use dACLs instead of VLAN assignment. This means that an access list will be downloaded from the radius server straight to the authenticated user's session. I have tested this and it works perfectly. Just Google Cisco IBNS quick reference guide and look for the section that deals with Low Impact mode.
    2) Get rid of the dumb switches and use managed switches throughout your network. Dumb switches will always be a point of weakness in your network because they have no intelligence to do advanced security features like port security, 802.1x, DHCP snooping, etc.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with another option.

  • New 150/65 only at 94 Download AND Won't Work with Gigabit Switch

I just had this installed today, converting up from the 35/35, and ran into these two problems:
    1.  The 150 download is only resulting in a 94.87 Mpbs.  The installer originally said it must be my PC NIC card, but I do have a GB card, so there's does not appear to be legitimate reason for the shortfall there.  I tried to change the link speed and duplex from "auto negotation" to "1 Gbps Full Duplex," but then my computer no longer even could connect.
    2.  The second issue is that I have always run my connection through a D-Link DGS-2208 Gigabit Switch because I have multiple wired ethernet computers in my office.  The installer wanted to test the connection speed directly through my computer (see above) and ran into problems, so I never even tried to revert to my original setup with the switch until he left.  However, when I did the Gigabit switch does not even recognize any activity when I plug the source ethernet cord into the switch.  It does recognize the connection to the PC and the port is lit, but no lights from connection to the wall.
Any thoughts on what the problems could be?  I've included the "additional details" from the Fios Speed test at the standard site (can't get any details from the high speed version):

If your computer can't negotiate a 1Gbps connection, then that is what is limiting you to 94Mbps, which is about right for a "100Mbps" port.
There could be several reasons for this.
    A bad NIC
A bad port on the switch
IMO, the most likely cause is a bad cable.  1Gbps requires all 4 pairs in the cable be connected.  If only 2 of the 4 pairs are connected correctly, you will get a 100Mbps connect, but will not be able to connect at 1Gbps.  Try replacing the cable with one known to work at 1Gbps.

What's wrong with my macbook pro (15" early 2011) when i connect it with TV via hdmi

    Hello Alex,
It sounds like you are getting excessive CPU usage when connecting an external display via HDMI to your computer. I would try the troubleshooting steps outlined in the article named:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:

Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the systemYou can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • Linksys E4200 - has to reboot to connect again with the internet

I bought the E4200 a month ago (replaced D-link DIR-655) and since then I have to reboot it twice.
I have a NAS connected to the router (and router to cable modem) and sometimes I have to FTP files from abroad. If I use the FTP too much time the E4200 just loose connectivity with the internet. Once home I have to reboot it in order to connect again with the internet. It never happen me before with the D-Link.
Does anybody has a similar problem?
    Thanks!

Actually mine is working great now, almost as if it had a break-in period.
Mine has not flashed once in the past day (or more) and the last time I rebooted it was Wednesdsay evening (only to see if I could stop the flashing which was still happening
    at that time).
I was also online on an interactive (gaming / gambling) site that is very quick to report what it considers "disconnects" if it sees any weakness in the connection to its servers and when using the E4200 it did NOT disconnect a single time all day yesterday.
(My Belkin N1 Vision wireless router connection via my Rosewill RNX-N1 USB adapter had been "disconnecting" multiple several days in a row although I was able to surf the web without issues while it reported me as disconnected).
    Possible reasons everything is fine:
    1) I placed the router's four ridiculously tiny feet on four thick wooden drink coasters
to give it more breathing room.
The flashing stopped a day or two later... (Keep in mind the router is less than a week old, so the reason it stopped flashing could be unrelated).
My wireless signal strength does seem to be sensitive to a 5.8 GHz cordless phone strangely even though it is a 2.4 GHz wireless adapter.
Just turning the phone (which has an INternal anntenna and is about 3 1/2 feet away from my wireless adapter at the moment) 15 or 20 degrees immediately changed the wireless signal quality from 4 bars to 3 bars and vice versa!!!
    2) As far as my needing to reboot it that one time (during the first full day I owned the E4200):
I had been switching between two different model Rosewill wireless adapters a few times that afternoon (same chipset, same driver I believe and even show up as
same device in 32 bit Windows 7 Device Manager) without restarting the router after each switch
Since that one reboot, everything has been fine and my connection has been solid (pingtest.net tests over wireless produce an 'A' and speed has been for the most part relatively stable at 130 Mbps).
I hope thay helps others here (especially Part 1 above).
So overall I am extremely happy now.
I now just need to see what the implications are by the current lack of official IPv6 support in the E4200 (will post separately about that).
I noticed that my "IPv6 connectivity" on the wireless connection showed "no internet".
I just ran some IPv6 tests online (on two separate sites) and they passed and, lo and behold, now it shows "internet access" (again) for IPv6 (and not just IPv4 as it did before)!

  • I plugged my ipod into my computer to load up new tunes and it froaze on the time I dad connected it with the message 'do not disconnect' on the screen.Despite disconnecting and reconnecting it and ensuring it was charged up it will not operate. The 'lock

I plugged my ipod into my computer to load up new tunes and it froaze on the time I dad connected it with the message 'do not disconnect' on the screen. Despite disconnecting and reconnecting it and ensuring it was charged up it will not operate. The 'lock' symbol is showing at the top of the screen even when I have moved the lock switch. I have been using my ipod for several years with no similar fault. What is the problem/solution?

I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Next would be to restore the iPod from backup

  • How do I hard wire multiple airport expresses with a switch

I have two airport expresses and other hardwired devices.  I am trying to get them wired together for a roaming network not to extend the network, but can't seem to get it to work with a switch.
Here is the setup Modem -> Airport Express -> 5 ports switch -> one of the ports is ran to an airport express.  What I'm trying to determine is if the airport device needs to be physically plugged in to the other airport to create a roaming network or can it be ran through a switch. Notice the dotted line vs the solid line.  Now obviously because I found the picture on the internet, I only have two devices not 3.
    Here is mine:
Here is what i'm trying accomplish. (Image from: http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=345142&d=1340677218)

If you have a simple modem.....then you must connect the modem directly to an AirPort....then connect the switch to the AirPort and then connect other AirPorts and devices to the switch. So, it would look like this:
Internet > Simple Modem > AirPort > Switch > Other Devices
If you have a modem/router or gateway type of device.....then you can connect the switch to the modem/router or gateway.....and then connect the AirPorts to the switch. In this case, things would look like this:
Internet > Modem/Router (Gateway) > Switch > AirPorts and other Devices
So, before we go further with this, it is important to understand what type of modem that you have, as it will dictate what you can and cannot do on the network.
What is the make and model number of the device that you call your "modem"?
