Connecting SnapManager to Local SQL server using command line
Are there any commands (PowerShell preferably) that can be used to connect SnapManager to Local SQL Server and configure it with mostly default configuration? I tried the import-config command using SnapManager for PowerShell, it gives configuration successful import message but does not establish connection to SQL server. Running the new-backup or clone-database commands after importing gives the message that SQL server is not connected and configured.
After more investigation and even more chocolate, we've identified the problem and it's now working. For anyone else who strikes this problem in future, here's something to check/consider/try:
Even though Squirrel SQL Client was connecting and working ok using the MS JDBC driver (v 3.0), it recorded this in its logs:
Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" and "Latin1_General_CI_AS" in the INTERSECT operation.
We've found that the open source jTDS driver does not have the same issue as the Microsoft one.
We've installed the current jTDS driver, recorded the driver name (net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver) and the JDBC URL (jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://<hostname>:1433/<database>) and the connection is now working fine.
Hope this helps other people...
Thanks to those of you who offered suggestions and things to check...much appreciated.

Get the connected users count from sql server using powershell
Hi,
I am working on SharePoint 2013,I am having SQL server 2012.
I want to get the Connected Users count from sql server using power shell.
Can any one please let me know how to implement.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Phani Kumar RSorry Tom, I dont like to hear "There is no way" :-(
There is always a way in computer to get what you need (at least it is good as Rule of thumb). I am not sure we will find it here (in a voluntary supporting forum).
Now we (or better the architect of their system) should think of the way :-)
Of course doing so in the forum, while we do know the system and only got a glimpse on what is needed, is not the best idea. I will point some issues which can be related to a solution. Those are not a solotions as it is but something we can use for a solution
once something look in the right way.
* A web connects counter is one of the easier thing to do. The basic idea is just to use the connect event and the disconnect event an adding 1 or removing 1 from the counter. This is best to do in the application using static variable as any way the second
the application is down the counter can be go to hell as we know there is no one connect (there for a counter do not use database usually). Using a web dot-net (or asp 3) application this is done most of the time using the global.asa/global.asax file, which
include the application and session events. for example using the method Session_Start
protected void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) {
// Code that runs when a new session is started
* IIS have a build-in loging system where we can log each and every request/response or only logins users. There is lot we can do with this log files including data mining. Using small bulk insert script we can use the SQL agent to insert those logs to the
database and get the information we need.
* any web developer i want to believe know about the Fiddler application which we use to monitor traffic. A proxy is not the only way to to monitor traffic (it is not good for our case as this is in the client side), there are several option in the server
side.
* SQL trigger on logon can be use to get information on who is loging on and can be logging only specific source (like our sharepoint IP or any sharepoint application). This information (what is the application which connect to the server can be retrive
in several solution without using a trigger as well)
*** (I'll be brief ... I'm getting bored... probably the reader feel the same)
* using extended events and/or profiler we can monitor any connection and save the data or just remember it in shared (static) variable (this
blog show how to do it by the way). Again we can monitor specific application or use any filter in order to get only the sharepoint users
.... and i can continue for several days more :-) ...
"If there is a willing, then there's a way"
"If you can't do it, Then someone else probably can"
"Never say never"
I hope this help somehow :-)

Connecting to a local SQL server .mdf file
Hi all,
In doing some prototyping of my database I started working with a local copy of an SQL Server database since it so conveniently integrated with the Visual Studio .NET tools I use. Now that I have spent far too much time working on a local prototype, I would very much like to migrate it to our in-house database rather than rewrite the whole thing (it is quite large in terms of tables and constraints and none of our in-house tools generate code from ER diagrams).
Seeing that SQL Developer had a migration utility I pounced at a chance to use it. I installed it as well as the recommended JDBC driver; however, it occurs to me that I have no idea how to connect to a local database file using the host name and port fields given to me. Is there some convenient way to configure SQL Server 2005 to forward this file to some kind of local host? Or is there any other driver for use with a local .mdf file? Help would be greatly appreciated. While it does come with a copy of SQL Server with it, visual studio suspiciously just asks for a file name, so I would assume it reads directly from the .mdf
I have a copy of SQL Server 05 on the machine, but I haven't done anything in the way of server side configuration before, so I can't even guess how to direct it to serve the file.
All software packages involved are:
Windows XP
SQL Server 2005
Visual Studio .NET 2005
SQL Developer 1.5.1
Oracle client 10g connecting to an Oracle 9i release 2 server
Any pointers to the right direction or alternate migration solutions would be great.
Edit: I am highly suspicious that Visual Studio was connecting to this file through SQL Server Express and not my standard edition copy, and it is therefore not attached to the database, the solution is not looking entirely easy, so an alternate migration may be a better choice. Thanks in advance for any help.
Edit: Well my suspicions were confirmed. I attempted several solutions. First of which being the MS SQL Express publishing wizard so that I could publish to SQL and run the script via Toad or SQL Plus; however, it only targets MS SQL Server 2000 or 2005 which would result in a lot of hand editing in terms of migration. Attempting to find a script converter did not help as they all either failed outright or demanded a connection to the datbase via ODBC or JDBC (which doesn't support SQL Express' less than clever attach on connection ideas). This led me to the alternate solution of trying to attach the file to my main database and connect to it; however, the SQL Server command prompt has some sort of permissions issue with my office security setting (though I can edit files fine) and results in failure.
I think it is about time to throw in the towel and just work it out by hand. This would be greatly expedited by any visual database tools that generate code from ER diagrams if you happen to know of a freeware solution. We lack an internal copy of Oracle Designer and the free license only permits a single prototype. So any suggestions on the front of freebie visual object relational tools and alternate migration ideas would be of great help. Until then I'll be grinding through it with moderate dissatisfaction.
Thanks again. -
Hi,
I have downloaded SSDT-BI software and looking for commandline steps, config file for this.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42313
Any one have Command line installations steps for SSDT-BI automatic(command line) installation for SQL Server 2014 with giving the files location, where to install.....etc, i mean config.xml.
I found below but not sure it will work or not. If any one have working correct command line script, please reply on this forum.
Looking for config.xml file, i searched online and did not find any where with clear config.xml file details.

setup.exe /ACTION=INSTALL /FEATURES=SSDTBI_VS2012 /Q /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /norestart
thanks in advance.Hi SQLDBA321,
The SSDT-BI is automatically installed under xxx:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\. Now matter in GUI or command line, we can't change the path. Because SSDT is a feature of SQL Server, not a feature of Visual Studio. It just use the Visual
Studio Shell. So SSDT will only be installed with SQL Server.

Thanks for your reply.

SALIHKM.DOMAIN.COM is my system in which Oracle Test DB is Installed.
SQL Server is in another location.
In Tnsnames i specified ip address.
One more doubt.
I am using 10g Release 2 demo version.
whether it will support Hetrogeneous Services?
How to know whether a database supports HS or not?

Can't add datasource for local SQL Server Express
I can't get new datasource to connect to a local SQL Server Express (2008).
On SSE, I enabled non-NTLM authentication, created an account specifically for CFServer, and was able to log into SQL Server through Management Studio. But the datasource still won't connect.
When I enter computerName/SQLServerName for the Server, I get a message saying "...The requested instance is either invalid or not running."
When I enter just SQLServerName, message says "Error establishing socket. Unknown host: SQLServerName."
When I enter (local), I get a message saying "Error establishing socket. Unknown host: (local)"
When I enter 127.0.0.1, message says "Error establishing socket to host and port: 127.0.0.1:1433. Reason: Connection refused: connect"
I don't know why the first is considered invalid, or why the fourth is refusing connection. Am I forgetting something?I found the solution, which doesn't have to do with Coldfusion, but rather with configuring SQL Server for TCP/IP. In case someone else ever stumbles upon this post with a similar problem, I wrote about it at http://forums.devshed.com/ms-sql-development-95/trying-to-connect-to-sql-server-on-localho st-1433t-958558.html.

Error while trying to connect to a remote SQL Server DB using multiconnect
As part of our business process, we need to connect to a SQL Server DB external to SAP.
We have done the following:
1. We set up an ODBC connection on our SAP sandbox server to the external SQL server DB.
Name: sdsdev
Connection string: sdsdev\sqlexpress2008
2. We tested the ODBC connection from within ODBC and it works perfectly
3. Using transaction: DBCO we have set up a DB connection known to SAP that we can use in ABAP to retrieve the data.
It was set up with exactly the same parameters as with the ODBC.
We used the following connection string so it would know to use the ODBC DBSL profile parameters, with the DSN name
being the same as defined in the ODBC: See below ...
DB connection: AR_INTERFACE
DBMS: MSS
User Name: ARTransfer
Password: ******
Conn info: MSSQL_DSN=sdsdev
4. We also made sure we installed the DBSL dynamic library (DLL) on the R/3 system server.
5. We ran a small test program to test connectivity ... as below ...
exec sql .
connect to 'AR_INTERFACE'
end exec.
right after the above command we check the system log for status. It failed with the following message:
B Wed Feb 09 14:40:40 2011
B Connect to AR_INTERFACE as ARTransfer with MSSQL_DSN=sdsdev

Connecting to MS SQL Server using ODI Agents
I'll start with an apology, since I'm sure it's something very obvious that I've missed. Other posts have similar, but I think slightly different issues - but they have helped me get this far.
We have ODI set up with two Agents (L and S running on Windows) which successfully connect to Oracle databases.
I'm trying to connect to our first MS SQL Server database, and while a test through "Local (No Agent)" is successful, the connection is not successful when I try through one of the agents.
This is true both when I test through Topology Manager on my laptop and when I use the ODI Topology Manager on the server running the agents themselves.
In attempting to fix the problem, I have updated/checked as follows:
Downloaded updated MS SQL Server drivers (I'm connecting to a MS SQL Server 2005 database). The new MS driver is version 3.0 and I've copied file sqljdbc4.jar to the ODI home drivers directory on both my laptop and on the server which runs the agents.
Checked that we have a newer JRE installed - we have JRE 6 update 7 installed (1.6.0.17_b04) on the server which runs the agents.
Updated the ODI_JAVA_HOME environmental variable so that it points to the jre6 directory on the server which runs the agents.
Stopped and restarted the Agent services.
Closed and reopened Topology Manager.
Configured the SQL Server data server to use the following JDBC driver:
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
Configured the JDBC url as follows (changing the hostname):
jdbc:sqlserver://<hostname>:1433;selectMethod=cursor;integratedSecurity=false
Tested using 'Local (No Agent)' successfully.
Tested through an agent and received the following error:
java.lang.Exception:

I'm sure it's something obvious that I've missed, but I've now spent close to two days researching, testing and drinking too much coffee. Any help would be very gratefully received!
Thanks.

The error below makes absolutely no sense! I'm using Enterprise Core...yet I'm being told I can't use remote data sources:
w3wp!library!8!03/05/2015-19:08:48:: i INFO: Catalog SQL Server Edition = EnterpriseCore
w3wp!library!8!03/05/2015-19:08:48:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.OperationNotSupportedException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.OperationNotSupportedException: The feature: "The edition of Reporting
Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.;
Really? This totally contradicts the documentation found here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157285(v=sql.110).aspx
That article says remote connections are completely supported.
ARGH! Why does this have to be so difficult to setup?!?Hi jeffoliver1000,
According to your description, you are using Enterprise Core edition and you are prompted that you can’t use remote data sources.
In your scenario, we neither ignore your point nor be doubt with what you say. But actually we have met the case before that even though the SQL Server engine is Enterprise but the reporting services is still standard. So I would recommend you to find the
actual edition of reporting services you are using. You can find Reporting Services starting SKU in the Reporting Service logs ( default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles). For more information,
please refer to the similar thread below:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f98c2f3e-1a30-4993-ab41-acbc5014f92e/data-driven-subscription-button-not-displayed?forum=sqlreportingservices
By the way, have you installed the other SQL Server edition before?

How to connect sql server using oracle Client
Hi,
I am working in oracle9i and windows os 32 bit.
I need to connect SQL server 2000 from my oracle client..
I heard about heterogeneous connectivity ...
Please expalin me the steps what to add and how to connect the sql server...
Regs....Are you trying to connect to SQL Server from your Oracle database (i.e. create a database link in Oracle to SQL Server)? Or are you trying to connect to SQL Server using your Oracle client software (i.e. SQL*Plus)?
The former just requires Heterogeneous Services with Generic Connectivity. The latter is functionality that has been depricated and probably no longer works in your environment.

Please tell how to store jpeg images in SQL Server using NI Database Connectivity Toolset.
http://www.w3schools.com/sql/sql_datatypes.asp
You setup a field as BLOB and store the binary of the picture there. Depending on the database it can be called differently as you can see in the link, in SQL server there's even a Image datatype.

Connection with SQL Server using DBCO
Hi,
I want to connect to Misrosoft SQL Server using DBCO transaction. I have given the following fields.
DB Connection = test
DBMS = MSS
User Name = user02
password = test
Conn. info = MSSQL_SERVER=tcp:10.100.50.36 MSSQL_DBNAME=New_Wisdom
permanent selected
Connection Limit = 5
Optimum Conns = 2
while executing through the statement as follows,
EXEC SQL.
CONNECT :'TEST'
ENDEXEC.
I am getting the dump ' An SQL error occurred when executing Native SQL.
The error 900 occurred in the current database connection "DEFAULT".' Please suggest me what needs to be added or corrected.Hi Benito.
I'm not very familiar with MSS but maybe the following will help a little bit.
Depending on the version of your SAP system you can use the transaction DBACOCKPIT to add connections to non-SAP databases. There is an test connection button in that transaction, too. You will find some information about that transaction in some whitepapers here in the SDN. For example have a look at this one: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/1062428c-f1df-2910-b08f-c322feddcd10
ADBC error 16 is just "something went wrong". Is your SAP system using MSS, too? If not you will need the matching DBSL for it on your SAP system.
If you have set up an connection you can use program ADBC_TEST_CONNECTION to check if everything is ok. If I remember it correctly in case of errors it allows you to jump into the trace file. There you should find some usefull information.
Perhaps asking in the Database&OS forum area (there is a MSS forum) might help, too.
Best regards,
