Connecting to OE Schema

I am learning Oracle SQL Fundamentals using OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) book by Oracle Press. I am trying to practice the Lab Questions.
Can any one tell me what does it mean "connect to OE Schema"? How can I connect to that schema from SQL Developer? This schema seem to have a set of tables on which I can run the query and practice.
Please guide, thanks!

I recommend you review the [Getting Started|http://www.oracle.com/technology/getting-started/sqldev.html] section from the tutorials section on the SQL Developer homepage. In this Gettign Started material is a "How to Create a Connection", which should help you get going. The connection is for creating HR, and you need to create the connection for OE, which is just another schemar in the shipped Oracle schemas. You should have access to both these schemas(users) if you have a 10g or 11g database. OE is not available by default in XE. The getting started section should help you get going, or if the database is not yours, then ask for access to these schemas

  • Connecting to HR schema in Oracle SQL Developer

    I have installed Oracle sql developer 3.2 version.And I dont have oracle client installed.
    Can I connect to HR schema with this set up.
    If yes ,please suggest me the credentials.
    Thanks.

    You do not need any oracle client installed, you do however need a database somewhere to connect to.
    The credentials you require would be for this database, and so we cannot help you get them.
    If you have a DBA that manages your databases ask him for the credentials.
    If you are on your own and just want to try out something, your best option is to install an Oracle XE on your own system, then you can connect with the defaults SQLDeveloper already has when creating a new connection (the system password will be set during database installation so note it down), then you can play with your newly installed database.

  • Multiple JNDI connections and connecting to multiple schemas

    Currently I have some code that makes a connection to a specific schema in the oracle database.
    I need to somehow connect to more than one schema and do some resultset processing on tables in two different schemas.
    How can I do I establish the connection to two schemas with JNDI?
    Is this possible?
    Thanks.

    have u looked at XA datasources and distributed transactions

  • Can i drop the connection user and schema used for Accociate repository

    Hi
    I have created a connection , user and schema and Associated repository to it then migrated a database from diffrent product. to oracle
    using the above mentioned connection, user ,schema and asscociated repositroy.
    11g XE.
    can i delete it after the migration.
    yours sincerely.

    Yes you can !. Permission to drop those artifacts is granted except the target schema where the converted objects are. The migration repository user/connection can be dropped.

  • Connection Accounts - Synonyms - Schemas - Tables

    Not sure about other Oracle sites but we configure Oracle to have connection accounts and schemas. The schemas contain all the tables, broken down logically, and the connection accounts use synonyms to point to various schemas depending on the desired configuration.
    So our developers and testers are used to connecting to the connection accounts and being able to access tables regardless of what schema the table happens to be in.
    We would love to roll out Raptor, but I cant seem to find any way for the developers/testers to connect to the connection account and be able to view the "tables" in Raptor, like they would be able to in SQL*Plus??? Am I missing something??? Or is this an enhancement request???
    Does this request even make any sense??
    Thanks in advance.

    Being used to TOAD's handling of synonyms and their describe (especially when logged on as APPS in an Oracle Apps development environment), I am used to not needing to know who owns what (or even whether it is a view or a table), but still being able to describe the object "in full detail" (which incidentally includes who owns it and what type of object it is).
    For example, describing PER_ALL_PEOPLE_F when logged on as APPS. In Raptor, that describes the columns in the script output (as you would get in SQL*Plus). In TOAD, that opens the equivalent to the Table window I would get if I went to Other Users, filtered for HR, expanded the HR node, apply a filter to the HR tables (there are over 1000 of them!) and then clicking on the PER_ALL_PEOPLE_F table. And all that assumes I know it is a table and it is owned by the HR user. If I was looking for the details of PER_PEOPLE_F and went through the same process I wouldn't find anything, as it is a view owned by the APPS user (based on the HR.PER_ALL_PEOPLE_F table).
    I also like that way that TOAD has a Describe in the right-click menu in their SQL Worksheet equivalent (although I wish they would have it in all of their code windows, including View and Package definitions). Is something like that on the cards for Raptor?

  • To access PD Repository, why do we have to connect to the schema owner?

    Hi
    we use Oracle for PD repository.  In order to connect to the repository, we create odbc connection to the repository schema owner.  The question is, can we create a application schema user and provide read/write privileges to the repository and then create odbc connection to this application schema instead of repository schema?
    thanks

    Hi Krishna,
    We create odbc connection to the repository schema owner.  The question is, can we create a application schema user and provide read/write privileges to the repository and then create odbc connection to this application schema instead of repository schema? Yes
    I suggest that you use the proxy rather than a direct connection. Search this topic in this forum.
    If you decide to keep your idea here's how :
    REPOSITORY_SCHEMA (OWNER SCHEMA):
    GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE ON EACH <PD TABLES> TO <APPLICATION_SCHEMA>
    (PD tables usually begin by PM%, actually PD does not use VIEW, SEQUENCE objects)
    On Application Schema : Create as many synonyms as there's table to go to the schema owner
    Example : CREATE SYNONYM PMTEMP FOR <OWNER_SCHEMA.PMTEMP>
    Ask to your Oracle DBA. It can do, he know how do.
    Warning : When you do an update of PD you will have to check if the privileges are gone,if SAP has added new tables, etc.
    I do not think it's a good idea to follow this path

  • Not able to connect to APPS schema in 10g database after upgradation

    We have upgraded our database from 9.2.0.6 to 10.2.0.1(E-Business suite database).We have upgraded our database using dbua and it was succesful(No invalid objects are there in the databe).Now we are trying to connect using apps username but it is not recognising the username.How do we link the old database schema with new database?

    Hi,
    Could you please elaborate "You should make sure that all referenced in the context files point to the new ORACLE_HOME and that AutoConfig complete successfully".This is covered in the same upgrade document (See "Step 26. Implement and run AutoConfig" for details).
    I think you are referring the context file to xml file which contains parameters like "s_dbdomain". I think mistake lies at this point.Not only this variable, I am referring to any variable which points to the old 9i ORACLE_HOME. But, again this makes no sense if you cannot find the APPS schema in the upgraded database!

  • What is the best practice for connecting to different schemas?

    Hi all,
    We are porting an application from SQL Server to oracle and would like to know what the best practices are in oracle for user connections to an Oracle instance.
    More or less the question could be put like this:
    1) The equivalent of a SQL Server Database in Oracle is a Schema. (more or less)
    2) A specific application has it's own schema where it keeps all related objects (Tables, etc)
    3) In SQL Server you grant access to the Database and its objects (Tables, etc) to all users of the application.
    4) In Oracle do you grant access to the Schema and its objects (Tables, etc) to all users of the application also? Or do all users log
    in as the schema owner?
    So in Oracle if there existed [SchemaApplication].[table1], how would [userChris] and [userDave] query [SchemaApplication].[table1]?
    Would Chris and Dave log in as [userChris] and [userDave], or would they normally log in as [userApplication]?
    finally, is it good practice to log in as a unique user eg [userChris] and then issue the
    alter session set current_schema = shemaApplication;
    command to change the way references to tables are interpreted?

    4) In Oracle do you grant access to the Schema and its objects (Tables, etc) to all users of the application also? Or do all users log
    in as the schema owner?There are ways to implement the same.
    Case 1.
    Create different roles, such as APP_ROLE, READONLY_ROLE. Create public synonym for objects in SchemaApplication user. Grant these role to single user say appUser this is different from you SchemaApplication user. Use appUser to connect to application and for different user like userChris, userDave provide another layer of security. Say userDave is allowed only to deal with cash related transaction, so allow him to open only those screens which are related to cash transaction only.
    Case 2.
    Create public synonym and grant privilege on tables from SchemaApplication to different users (say userChris, userDave).
    So in Oracle if there existed [SchemaApplication].[table1], how would [userChris] and [userDave] query [SchemaApplication].[table1]?This is resolved by public synonym. There are private synonym as well, you can create this also but in this case you have to create private synonym for each of the users.
    Would Chris and Dave log in as [userChris] and [userDave], or would they normally log in as [userApplication]? I would suggest you to connect either using a new user(Case 1) or the user itself has account in the database(Case2).
    finally, is it good practice to log in as a unique user eg [userChris] and then issue the
    alter session set current_schema = shemaApplication;
    No. It is not a good practice to allow the user to login to database using the application owner.
    command to change the way references to tables are interpreted?The public/private synonym can be used to resolve the schema.object value. For example, if SchemaApplication has table T, then you can create public synonym as 'CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM T FOR SchemaApplication.T'; and now you can refer this table as T from any other schema(user).

  • Error while connecting to DB Schema from WebLogic

    1.     I have installed DB 11.2.0.1, run RCU utility to create the schema, IDP_OIF, and Weblogic 10.3.3 on windows 2008 64bit version.
    Then i installed OIM 11.1.1.2 and then applied the patch 11.1.1.3. Post that, i configured Weblogic and created a new domain. After that, i run config.bat file to
    configure OIM 11.1.1.3, and selected OIF and ODSM as components.
    2.     Now, I started the Weblogic (IDMDOMAIN_IDP domain), and trying to create a new DataSource (Services -> DataSource), giving the schema details of IDP_OIF.
    But, I am not able to connect and getting the error. i am getting the below mentioned error, while doing the test configuration.

  • Connecting to multiple schemas and resultset

    I am trying to connect to two different schemas in oracle.
    I want to join on tables from two different schemas and use resultset.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks.

    Example: schema: billercenter, tablename:
    collectinfo_desc
    schema: ecxdev, tablename: members
    In oracle you have to login to each of these schemas
    separately.
    I need more detail how to accomplish this.You only need one connection / query to accomplish this. In Oracle, you use GRANTS to control access to tables between schemas.
    If you create a user foo, you could run SQL commands like.
    (as billercenter) grant select on collectinfo_desc to foo;
    (as ecxdev) grant select on members to foo;
    Then, user foo can run a query like this.
    select a.member_id, b.collect_id
    from excdev.members a, billercenter.collectinfo_desc b
    where a.collect_id = b.collect_id;

  • Using connections with no schema

    Oracle Rdb can run in either multi-schema mode or in a mode where there are basically no schemas.
    When running in no schema mode I can turn off schema display in the connection drill-down tree by using the following rdb.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <navigator>
    <connection id="Rdb"
    supportsOtherSchemas="false"
    showAllSchemas="false"
    supportsCatalog="false"
    connectionTabName="OracleRdb"
    However when I drag/drop a table from the connection tree panel into the SQL worksheet, SQLDeveloper insists that the table is prefixed by a schema name (ie my connection user name)
    eg
    select from "murray".EMPLOYEES;
    anyone know how to turn off this auto-prefixing so that it simple drops the following :
    select from EMPLOYEES;
    any help will be appreciated

    Because I send the XML in different formats for different points, wait a minute, do you mean I can use XSLT instead, how this will be with JAXB ?Yes. you can use XSLT. First you generate the XML using JAXB and apply XSLT to convert to other format. Finally you return as String from web service.
    and if I still want to use different xml schemas with JAXB marashalling how gona to do this ?Its like creating different XML object (JAXB object) and returning it from the web service. The difference from above is: above return String from web service and this returns JAXB XML object. Ultimately, its the XML travel over the wire and client does not get affected.
    Another suggestion is that you should rethink of your approach of having different XML structure. Its the same data you are sending out of the system.

  • Connecting to HR schema

    Hi there,
    I'm an absolute beginner with Oracle SQL Developer so bare with me:
    I have a series of sql tutorials which I am going through which are based on the HR schema.
    My question is how do I connect to the HR schema?
    I have tried opening a new connection using username and password as hr and sid as xe but I cant connect.
    I have only installed Oracle SQL Developer on my computer and no other Oracle software.

    You're going to need a database.
    I've tried to write up a little post on this topic, it should help you get started.

  • How do I close all connections to a schema ??

    Hello there,
    I got to drop the existing user. When I tried to DROP USER <user name> CASCADE, it displayed a message that read cannot drop a user with existing connections.
    I have killed all sessions that are open to this schema.. Still I am facing this problem?
    How do I know those connections and how do I close them ???

    Did I say that? Read my post again.
    It says
    First of all, change the password for that user to make sure that no one can connect to that user. Then kill all sessions of that user
