Connecting to other databases
Hi,
Can I connect to other databases such as Pointbase from Jdeveloper? If yes, how?
Thanks
Yes you can. You need the JDBC driver for the specific database and then follow the online help of JDeveloper.
look for "Registering a New Third-Party JDBC Driver" when you search for JDBC.

How a user of external database can be connected to other database
Hi
I have two databases A and B. I have one user XYZ on database B.we want user XYZ to be connected to database A and also wants to create few tables on database A. Can you please tell me what are list of steps i need to perform.
Regards,
RJ.You can create a database link between database A and B to manipulate data in database A while connected to B. But you cannot create tables using database links. It does not allow DDLs in remote database. Tranparent gateway is a database link between oracle and some other database.
Syntax is to create the link in B is
create database link <name> connect to <user_in_A> identified by <password_in_A> using 'A'; -
Oracle Cloud connections by other databases via ODBC/JDBC/XML
If we move to the Oracle Cloud, will these tables be available from other SQL clients via ODBC/JDBC/XML? It obviously works fine with an internally hosted Oracle solution, but I didn't know if moving the Oracle Cloud would remove these features. Thanks.
You need a service to auto start/stop instances. Pls See

Creating table in other databases than Oracle
Hi
It would be nice to be able to create tables in a JDBC Connection in other databases than Oracle. Why limit it to Oracle when there is a SQL standard to work with?
Regards,
FredrikGeneric SQL isn't really as generic as people would like to believe.
In any case, we're working on that for an upcomming release, but with the current time constraints, we just got the Oracle table creation support done.
(The time is more on testing than writing the feature)
It'll get in there, but probably not in the next release.

Oracle 10gR2 connection to other servers
Hello gurus
i have installed 10gR2 on my machine with Win XP pro on it. i have installed enterprise edition with i downloaded from the oracle website and created a general purpose database on it. Everthing is working very fine on it i can access EM and isqlplus locally .but problem i'm facing is i'm unable to connect to EM to other server . So please suggest what are the steps and wt's the best ways .
ThanksIt's going to be tough to learn about Enterprise Manager in detail without having an environment that includes multiple systems with enterprise manager agents around. You can use the Grid Control to connect to other databases and use a subset of EM's functionality without having agents installed and/or without have a repository database, it really depends on whether that subset is the functionality you want to learn.
I'm not sure what you mean by "manage grid computing through command line". The Grid Control is an Enterprise Manager GUI. "Grid computing" can refer to a wide range of things-- arguably managing a 10g RAC cluster is "grid computing" and that is certainly possible from the command line.

Error, connecting to the database!
Hello!
I have a problem connecting to the Oracle database.
first it shows ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified
but in the error log:
oracle.dbtools.raptor.utils.TNSHelper
Error:The system cannot find the file specified.
What can it be?
I had no problems with connecting to other databases, but with that one I have real problems.I have the same errors on SQL Developer 1.5.5:
oracle.dbtools.raptor.utils.DBObject
Could not read node:null
However, the errors were fixed when I do the followings:
In "Properties" of the connection, select the options:
- Connection Type: TNS
- Connection Identifier (instead of Network Alias)
Hope that helps.

OAF Page to connect two different Databases
Hi OAF Team,
We have a requirement to connect another instance from the source instance. That is when we login via supplier user for Supplier portal access we also need to see the planning details availble in another instance(database).
All the pages in the Supplier portal and collaborative planning are of OAF pages.
Also need to login once only, That is when we are into one instance and if we provide the hyper link of other instance in the home page, is that possible to connect the other database by defaulting the login/pwd from source login.

Not able to connect to orcl database other than system user
Hi,
I am getting the following error when I am trying to connect to orcl database.
I had created a user 'jeff' on oracle and oracle_sid is already set and database is up.listener is started, tnsnames.ora, listenrer.ora are configured. What other problem can be?
The point is that I am able to connect to orcl using "system" user but not "jeff".
If possible can you send me the snippet of commands to create user , granting privilege to orcl. I had refered oracle guide but may be I am doing some silly mistake.

How to connect other Databases during programming PL/SQL
We have several Databases in several locations. While programing in
PL/SQL how can I connect other databases. I mean how can I
apply "connect username/password@..." command in PL/SQL
programming.
I am Waiting for your answers..
Thanks..Hi
Yes of course. You can use dml command.
Define a dblink using username, pwd and a host name, or connect information stored in the tnsnames.ora.
After that use the dblink name connected the table name with a '@' sign:
select * from tableA@remotedb;

How to find the number of ODBC connections to Oracle Database
Hi All,
How to find the number of ODBC connections and all connections to the Database in last week. Are there any views to get this information?
Thanks in advance,
MahiWhat Ed said is true that Oracle doesn't note which type of protocol is connecting to the database, however, you can see which program is accessing the database.
For example: if you already know of a user using ODBC, you can verify as:
select username, osuser, terminal, program from v$session where username = 'SCOTT'
USERNAME OSUSER TERMINAL PROGRAM
SCOTT IUSR_SRV231 SRV231 w3wp.exe
SCOTT IUSR_SRV231 SRV231 w3wp.exe
2 rows selected.Assuming that you can confirm the progam noted in the above (example) is the one using ODBC, then you can change the query such as:
SQL> select username, osuser, terminal, program from v$session where program = 'w3wp.exe';
USERNAME OSUSER TERMINAL PROGRAM
SCOTT IUSR_SRV231 SRV231 w3wp.exe
SCOTT IUSR_SRV231 SRV231 w3wp.exe
2 rows selected.Just for kicks, I checked our listener.log file, but there was no reference of odbc in it either.
Hope this helps... -
