Connection of MSSQL using thin drivers

In the development of BMP when I am trying to create connection pool using type 4 driver,During pinging Iam getting an error as follws:
Unable to add connection to jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;DataBaseName=pubs
Connection refused:connect
Kindly solve this error

in any DB connection you need to be sure of these information:
1.ip
2.port
3.database
4 username
5.password
6.the right driver
if the above is right and DB server is running no reason for a connection failure.

    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.oracledriverThe JAR file is not in your classpath. Depends on what JAR you are using (ojdbc14.jar, ojdbc5.jar, etc). Bottom line, it can't find the class for the driver due to the JAR not being in the classpath.

    I have used the classes12.jar and ojdbc.jar which came with the download and nothing seems to work. A bit surprising when sqlplus works and not the application. I suspect there could be an issue with the driver class. I have been struggling to figure this out for days now...
    Can anyone please share their thoughts if something similar was observed earlier please.
    Any quick help will highly be appreciated.

    ORACLE_HOME=/opt/instantclient_10_2
    export ORACLE_HOMEYou don't set ORACLE_HOME with Instant Client.
    PATH=$PATH:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    export PATHThis is unnecessary.
    CLASSPATH=/opt/instantclient_10_2:/opt/instantclient_10_2/ojdbc.jar
    export CLASSPATHThis is wrong.
    It should be:
    CLASSPATH=/opt/instantclient_10_2/ojdbc14.jar:<whatever else you need there>
    Java.library.path=/opt/instantclient_10_2
    export Java.library.pathThis is useless; java.library.path is not an environment variable.
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10 in java.library.pathThe case is pretty clear. You want to use the OCI driver (your URL starts with "jdbc:oracle:oci:"), so the Java Virtual Machine is looking for libocijdbc10.so in the Java library path but cannot find it.
    What is also clear is that the program does not use the CLASSPATH environment variable you set, because then it would never have found the Oracle Driver.
    So it seems that your program is ignoring the environment you set (which would explain why it also ignores LD_LIBRARY_PATH which you set correctly).
    You must have the environment variables set and exported in the shell that starts the "java" executable.
    Also, check that there is no other ojdbc14.jar on this machine (use "find").
    To help you debug your problem, let me explain how Sun Java sets Java library path on Linux:
    - If you start java with "java -Djava.library.path=/some/dir:/other/dir ...", the Java library path is set to exactly that value.
    - If you do not specify -Djava.library.path, the Java library path is taken from the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
    - Directories listed in /etc/ld.so.conf have no influence on the Java library path (which gave me quite a headache in the beginning).
    Do you really need the OCI Driver? If you can do with the Thin Driver (i.e., use an URL that starts with "jdbc:oracle:thin:") you don't need any shared libraries at all.
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe

  • How to use thin drivers and classes111.zip?

    I'm using jdk1.2 and making connection with Oracle8 database using an applet. I resolved the issue
    of security by using the policytool. But now I want to know how can I use the Thin Driver to connect with the database?
    the code which I had written is :-
    import java.sql.*;
    try{
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:cbcpeter","scott","tiger");
    st=con.createStatement();
    }catch(Exception e){System.out.println(e);}
    and it gives the following error "Class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver not found"
    So please tell me where to place the classes111.zip or classes12.zip and how to use them?
    I had tried with the jdbcodbc driver, but it gives me the error "Cannot load Resource File sqresus.dll"
    thanx in advance!

    well, i had the same problem some months ago, the READ ME OF HOW TO INSTALL IN THE ORACLE SITE IT IS INCORRECT!!! i cant remember it right, but the directory pertaining to the read me file is WRONG! im 100% sure because when i changed the directory to its correct path it WORKED!!! so u have to use common sense...
    also, if u r using tomcat 4.0.x try adding the location og the classes111.zip in the catalina.bat, coz when u run tomcat, it overrides the classpaths, etc that has been set in the autoexec.bat...
    also, dont unzip the file...
    i hope this helps... i had my code in another computer so i can post it here...

  • Can't connect to MSSQL using jdbc type 4

    My settings in the server are the followings:
    Data source class name : com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
    Resource Type: javax.sql.DataSource
    And in the properties, i have added
    DatabaseName: jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://SQL_SERVER:1433;DatabaseName=Borrar
    Because i have downloaded the jdbc driver type 4 sp3 from microsoft site, in the AppSrv-->JVM Settings --> Path Settings -->Classpath Suffix I have the following:
    C:/Sun/AppServer/pointbase/lib/pbclient.jar
    C:/Sun/AppServer/pointbase/lib/pbembedded.jar
    C:/Sun/AppServer/domains/domain1/lib/classes/msbase.jar
    C:/Sun/AppServer/domains/domain1/lib/classes/msutil.jar
    C:/Sun/AppServer/domains/domain1/lib/classes/mssqlserver.jar
    Using this configuration, when i press the button "Ping" when i'm configurating the connection pool, i have this message:
    " An error has occurred.
    Operation 'pingConnectionPool' failed in 'resources' Config Mbean. "
    Anyone can help me ??

    Since nobody posted the solution and I happened to found one, I want to contribute with the following information. Hope this helps:
    In order to create a connection pool for MSSQLServer
    you have to:
    1. Copy these files to the lib carpet inside domains/domain/DOMAIN_NAME/:
    mssqlserver.jar,
    msutil.jar,
    msbase.jar.
    You can find them in www.microsoft as a single package. Just look for JDBC Driver.
    2. In the administrator console of the AppServer, go to:
    Application Server -> JVM Settings -> Path Settings -> Classpath Suffix -> , and right there add the path for the previous files.
    Press 'Save' and restart the server.
    3. Go to JDBC -> Connection Pools -> New...
    Resource Type: javax.sql.DataSource'
    Database vendor: (none) (Dont select anything here).
    Press Next.
    4. In the field for Datasource ClassName, add
    com.microsoft.jdbcx.sqlserver.SQLServerDataSource
    (Here is where I`ve been having problems. I used to put com.microsoft.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver).
    5. The way to find out that the server found de library is through the attributes. You have to see exactly, among others:
    DatabaseName, SelectMethod, Password, User, PortNumber,ServerName.
    If you see: Port. It means the path to the library is wrong.
    6. Inform exactly the previous fields:
    DatabaseName= yourDBName
    SelectMethod=cursor
    Password=yourDBPassword
    User=yourDBUser
    PortNumber=1433
    ServerName=yourServerName
    7. Thats it. Press finish. and then select the connection you just created and hit ping. You shouldnt see the annoying message about some "MBEAN bla bla bla".
    Good luck. Greetings from Costa Rica.

  • JDBC Thin Drivers and Tom Cat Compatibility Error

    I tried to use thin drivers in JDK 1.4 and Oracle 9i. The Oracle 9i has got a jar file named classes12.jar.
    i usually compile my .java files with the command:
    javac -classpath D:\oracle\jdbc\lib\classes12.jar <nameOfFile.java>
    the same is run in the console by the command
    java -classpath D:\oracle\jdbc\classes12.jar; <nameOfClassFile>
    I am giving the entire code that I want to compile and run below.
    The problem thing I am facing is ..... When even I try to start TOMCAT v5.0 I have to close the TSNListener of Oracle 9i and let the Oracle database only running. But when I request for a execution of a servlet that uses the class file, it gives an error. Telling ClassNotFound. If I add up the classes12.jar file in the classpath then tom cat does not run properly.
    So may anyone help me out of the situation of how to use the thin drivers, compile and run servlets and jsp's in TomCat v5.0.
    If not the solution of my above problem, then I want to know how can I use the Thin Drivers and implement a MVC architechture using TOMCAT and JDK1.5 and JRE1.5

    Where did you add the classes12.jar file reference in Tomcat?
    You need not add it to classpath. Just drop the jar file into the path":
    <TomCatInstallDir>\common\lib
    Tomcat loads all Jars inside this folder and then uses it for Runtime. It does not look at your machine's Classpath attribute

    I guess you must have seen this. But, just in case.

    Also,
    SQL Server and SQL Server Native Client fully support both Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). When Windows is configured with IPv6 SQL Server, components automatically recognize the existence of IPv6. No special SQL Server configuration is necessary.[Connecting Using IPv6|http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345359.aspx]

  • Can I connect to Oracle server7.1  through Java-JDBC using the latest thin drivers???

    Hey Gurus,
    Please help me .
    MY Current requirement is to connect to multiple oracle 7.1( and other variants) servers running on different operating systems, through Java/JDBC.
    My FIrst question is, can i connect to older versions of database using latest drivers?
    I could connect to the server running on SCO-oracle 7.1 using SQLNet8.1.7 under windows. But the same is not happening when the client is on Linux.But I need to connect from linux
    It says ORA-03113 - End of communication channel.
    What may be th problem.
    If any one could show some pointers where I can get more information about this problem would be helpfull
    THanks
    Lokesh

    I tried the classpath suggestion above (not the one modifying the .xml file) , but it didnt work for me , I am using WLI 10.3.1 and trying to connect DB on 8.1.7 V . I downloaded the classes12.jar and the ojdbc14.jar file from the oracle and placed in lib and the even included the classpath , but i again got the same exception .
    All this while i was selecting the option Oracle Driver Thin from the DataBase Driver when creating the connection pool from console . I tried with "BEA Oracle Driver (Type 4)" and it worked for me .. Although the option "BEA Oracle Driver (Type 4)" lists only the DBs from 9.0.1 to 11 G , but in my case using this driver i am able to connect to Oracle DB 8.1.7 . So all you guys if it classpath doesnt fix the issue try out by selecting Driver , "BEA Oracle Driver (Type 4)" .
    Manoj , this will fix the Connection pool part of the ques, but for the java part Try to load the Driver class "weblogic.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver" before connecting to DB with Class.forName.

    You must include "classes12.zip" instead of "classes111.zip".
    Since "classes111.zip" is required only for Java 1
    and "classes12.zip" is required for Java 2 which means from J2SE 1.2 on forward.
    In adition you might need to inlcude "nls_charset12.zip" as well. Try it first without and if it is not working include it as well.
    The required files can you get from the OTN.
    This should help

    I have downloaded Oracle thin drivers for jdk1.2.2 from oracle's site. But when i tried to hit the Database with it iam getting "Network Adapter error". I ahd given the url correctly. I checked up the application by running on the system where oracle is installed and it is running perfectly but when i access the database by installing thin drivers on some other machine and testing it, iam not able to connect to database. Iam getting Network adapter error and i also checked up with the network people and the assured me that there are no network problems as i am able to oracle server by pinging and thru telnet also. Any help will be greatly appreciated and Thanx in Advance.

  • Account Password Changed When Using OCI Drivers With WebLogic 6.0

    Hello all,
    Could be I am losing my mind but I saw some strange bahavior and I was wondering if anyone could offer an explination. We're running BEA WL6.0sp2 on an HPUX box with both an 8.1.7 client and server installation for development. We noticed that when we try to use the OCI driver to connect to our database, the password for our account is being changed on connection. This is definitely repeatable as we demonstrated it for the DBAs while they yelled at us. I highly doubt there is anything in WL that would cause the problem and everything works fine with the Thin drivers, with the JDrivers provided by BEA and with the credentials from SQL+.
    Our problem is we need the Layer 2 OCI support. Is there something in the OCI client installation that would cause this behavior?

  • NW04s JDBC Connection for MSSQL not working

    In portal JDBC settings are:
    Connection properties
    URL = jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://192.168.0.101:1433;DatabaseName=Northwind
    Driver = com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SqlServerDriver
    User Management
    User mapping type = admin,user
    I assigned a user to Administrator under User Administration
    Visual Administrator settings are:
    DriverName = com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SqlServerDriver
    URL = jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://192.168.0.101:1433;DatabaseName=Northwind
    UserName = empty
    Password = empty
    Result
    Connection test fails in portal. The settings appear ok.
    The only thing I can think of is that user specified in portal user mapping is not setup properly on SQLServer.
    Also:
    When I run link:
    http://localhost:53000/TestJDBC_Web/TestJDBCPage.jsp
    my jdbc service MSSQL_JDBC does not appear. MSSQL_JDBC was cloned from SDK_JDBC and the libray for drivers was added
    I am running MSSQL 2000 SP4 but using JDBC drivers for SP3 as I didn't find any for SP4 and assumed they would work for SP4
    What am I missing?

    Raynald,
    I think I am having a similar problem.
    I also cloned the connection names in Vis. Administrator to the SDK_name.
    Indeed it now appears in the test servlet, and I can succesfully execute SQL statements from there.
    So the connector seems ok.
    But I have still problems with the Connection Test in the Portal.
    I am trying to make BI JDBC system to be able to use my database from the Visual Composer.
    I am using these properties:
    CodeLink = com.sap.portal.systems.bi.SAP_BI_JDBC
    ConnectionFactoryClass = SDK_TESTDB
    ConnectionUrl = jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://sapserver:1433;databaseName=TestDb
    (this url is the same as in Vis. Administrator)
    Driver Class Name =  net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver
    Fixed Catalog = empty
    Fixed Schema = empty
    System Type = SAP_BI_JDBC
    User Mapping = admin, user
    I am logged in as Administrator, so I added the login credentials at the User Mapping page of the Administrator user.
    When I use Connection Test function from the portal I get the following messages:
    Retrieval of default alias successful
    Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct.
    What can I do to solve this problem?

  • JDBC Connection Reset when using many processes on 64 bit system

    Hi,
    we've a annoying JDBC connection problem since we migrated our Java server to a 64 bit operating system. Here our environment.
    Database Machine:
    Oracle 10g
    Linux 32 Bit (but same problem on 64 Bit)
    Application Servers Machine:
    JDBC driver 11.1.0.6
    SUN Java 1.6.0_06 64bit
    Linux 64 bit (SLES 10 SP2)
    We have 6 different Java server processes (but with the same code) which all create some connections to the same database (running on a different Hardware). All 6 Java server processes starting at the same time (via scripts).
    Everything was fine, until we migrated the application server machine from 32 bit Linux to 64 bit Linux. From this day on, the half (or one more or less) of our application server processes can't longer connect to the database. The application server processes which have the problem product the following stack trace:
    java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: I/O Exception: Connection reset
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.SQLStateMapping.newSQLException(SQLStateMapping.java:281)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.newSQLException(DatabaseError.java:118)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:224)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:296)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:611)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection.logon(T4CConnection.java:455)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.PhysicalConnection.<init>(PhysicalConnection.java:494)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection.<init>(T4CConnection.java:199)

    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver.connect(OracleDriver.java:503)

    at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(DriverManager.java:154)
    at com.aaaa.utils.db.DbConnectionPool.<init>(DbConnectionPool.java:130)
    It looks like a network problem with the system but all other network stuff works without problems, between the two machines.
    - We use the thin JDBC driver (no OCI)
    - No firewalls are active on both systems
    - Both systems are in the same subnet connected to the same switch
    - The DNS configuration on both systems are ok (forward and reverse)
    - We've found the same problem on different application-server/database-server pairs with 64 bit application server hardware - but not all of our 64 bit server systems have this problem.
    - When running application server process and database on the same system (connecting via localhost) the problem does not longer appear.
    - The same database machine connected from a 32 bit application server (with 6 different java processes starting at the same time) works without a problem.
    We've tried a lot of things to isolate the problem - but with no success.
    - Same problem with SUN Java 1.6.0_06 32 bit (on 64 bit Linux)
    - Same problem with SUN Java 1.6.0_15 (32 and 64 bit)
    - Played with some JDBC connection properties (oracle.jdbc.TcpNoDelay, oracle.jdbc.ReadTimeout, oracle.net.CONNECT_TIMEOUT, oracle.net.disableOob, oracle.jdbc.RetainV9LongBindBehavior, oracle.jdbc.StreamChunkSize) without a positive result.
    - We've updated Linux network driver
    - We've changed to an completeky other NIC
    - We've tried an other Linux 64 distribution
    - We've increased the PROCESSES parameter in the init.ora
    - We've tried the JDBC driver 11.1.0.6
    - We've tried the _g version of the JDBC driver, but the debugging output simply tell us "Connection Reset" without a hint why.
    - We've tried a more complex JDBC connect string (
    "jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=" +
    "(ADDRESS_LIST=" +
    "(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)" +
    "(HOST=host)" + =
    "(PORT=port)" +
    ")" +
    ")" +
    "(CONNECT_DATA=" +
    "(SERVICE_NAME=sid)" +
    "(SERVER=DEDICATED)" +
    ")" +
    Nothing of this things helped us to isolate the problem.
    When we start our application server processes with a long pause (>1 min) between every process start. The problem does not occure. When we start only one application server with the same number of connections as the 6 different application server processes, everything works fine.
    We have absolute no idea why
    - this only occures on 64 bit Linux
    - independent if it's a 32 bit or 64 bit JVM
    - does not occure on all 64 bit application server machines / database machine pairs
    - never occure on the same 64 bit app server hardware when using a 32 bit Linux
    - using the Oracle JDBC 10g driver (10.xxx) there is no problem (but because of other issues, we need to use the JDBC 11g driver)
    Does anybody has an idea what our problem is?
    Thanks in advance,
    greetings

    I was recently struggling with this exact same problem. I opened a ticket with Oracle and this is what they told me.
    java.security.SecureRandom is a standard API provided by sun. Among various methods offered by this class void
    nextBytes(byte[])
    is one. This method is used for generating random bytes. Oracle 11g JDBC drivers use this API to generate random number during
    login. Users using Linux have been encountering SQLException("Io exception: Connection
    reset").
    The problem is two fold
    1. The JVM tries to list all the files in the /tmp (or alternate tmp directory set by -Djava.io.tmpdir) when
    SecureRandom.nextBytes(byte[]) is invoked. If the number of files is large the
    method takes a long time
    to respond and hence cause the server to timeout
    2. The method void nextBytes(byte[]) uses /dev/random on Linux and on some machines which lack the random
    number generating hardware the operation slows down to the extent of bringing the whole login process to
    a halt. Ultimately the the user encounters SQLException("Io exception:
    Connection reset")
    Users upgrading to 11g can encounter this issue if the underlying OS is Linux which is running on a faulty hardware.
    Cause
    The cause of this has not yet been determined exactly. It could either be a problem in
    your hardware or the fact
    that for some reason the software cannot read from dev/random
    Solution
    Change the setup for your application, so you add the next parameter to the java command:
    -Djava.security.egd=file:/dev/../dev/urandom
    We made this change in our java.security file and it has gotten rid of the error.
