Connection strings in Biztalk Config

HI
We have a Helper class Lib where we have the connection string in the calss files, this tends to be risk as we need to build each and everytime we change the environemnt. I plan to move the same to biztalk config files. Will that be good. Few suggest
to use Appconfig files. but since i just deploy the helper dll alone how can i refer the appconfig files. Any example would help.

If your connection string contains a username/password then configuration file is NOT recommended because of security related issues. If however your connection string are SQL and using Windows Integrated security (which implies that there is no username/password
mentioned in the connection string) then you may consider using the configuration file.
The BizTalk configuration file is equivalent to a app.config file as your helper would be loaded within the BTSNTSvc (or its 64 bit equivalent) service and you can use the same .Net methods (NameValueCollection) to read the configuration sections.
If using passwords/usernames in your connection string, it is preferred to use the SSO Affiliate application for the purpose. Refer to

Search for a specific string in web.config file

Is there a way we can search a specific word in web.config using powershell.
I have an entry of "user name" in the connection string. I want to find what the user name is and whether its a correct user name or not based on the criteria set in the script.
i believe its a simple matter of if statement but due to connection string i am unable to do this.
this is my connection string from web.config

Connect String for the front end app to access Lite Database in the Client

Hi,
I have been using an app developed in VB.net for accessing the Oracle Lite Database from the client machine. Can anyone please help me out how to set the Connect String in the config file of my front end app to access the Oracle Lite Database from my client machine. Do anyone have the syntax of the connect string to access the lite database in client machine.

Connection String example required using ODAC 10.2

Apologies if this has already been covered...
I have a .net app running on W2K3 SP2 x86. It uses an Oracle 10G (10.2.0.4) database backend running on Redhat Linux x86_64.
I have two oracle client homes on the app server; one for full admin (10.2.0.4), the other for ODAC 10.2.0.2. The default home is the ODAC client.
Normally, I would use the following conn string in my web.config;
Data Source=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS =(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=MYHOST.MYDOMAIN.LOCAL)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME=MTDB)));User ID=MY_USER;Password=MYPASSWORD;
This works just fine. But now, I have a requirement to use Kerberos authentication.
I have configured Kerberos for the database, client and Active Directory successfully and have verified all the parameters and that I can connect to the database using the Windows credential successfully - well, at least from the Full Admin home. I have mirrored config changes the ODAC home (obviously updating any absolute file path references).
However, now I need to update the above connection string in web.config to use Kerberos. This is where I am struggling... Can anyone provide me with an example? I have not made any changes to web.config yet.

Ok - I didn't need to raise a ticket with Oracle. Trial and error resolved this.
1. If you are using IIS, then you need to ensure that the identity account for the App Pool is set to the same credential used to authenticate against the database (in much the same way as one would for authenticating against a sql database). Remember to add the credential to the IIS_WPG group on the app server.
2. For the Website properties / Directory Security tab; depending on your requirements, enable/disable anonymous access tick-box and the Integrated Windows Security tick-box. I am not using Single Sign-ON for the application yet, so I enabled the anonymous access tick-box and set the credential to match the database credential.
3. If you are using a FULL ADMIN Oracle client home, then use this connection string "Data Source=MyDatabaseName; Integrated Security=SSPI;"
If you are using ODAC, then use this connection string "Data Source=MyDatabaseName; User Id=/;"

Dynamically Setting a Variable from a Connection String that has been set by a Config File

Hi Guys
I'm setting up a Master / Slave (Parent / Child) dtsx environment but I'm unable to work out how to dynamically set a variable in the Master dtsx from a connection string that has had its value set by a config file. I'm sure it's possible.
Below is the what I'm hoping to achieve. I've set up everything apart from the highlighted section.
Any ideas?

First, what version of SQL Server are you using?
You could switch the problem around. You could set the value of a variable from the config file, then it is easy to use that variable as the connection string source for your connection manager. At the same time you can use a parent variable
configuration to map that variable to variables in your child package.

Drag UserControl that uses Linq To Entities onto Windows Form, No Connection String named '' could be found in application config file

I have created a Visual Studio 2013 Solution with two projects: A Windows Forms project and a Class Library project. In the Class Library project I have added an entity framework, resulting in an .edmx file and an app.config file. I have copied the app.config
file to the Windows Forms project and added a reference to EntityFramework.dll and a reference to the Class Library.
When there is no code in the user control, I can drag the user control onto the main windows form with no error. However, if I use Linq to Entities in my user control and then try to drag it onto my form, I get an error.
Code in User Control that causes error:
adminentities = new ClassLibrary1.AdminEntities();
var res = from pay in adminentities.PayrollSchedules.Where(x=>x.FiscalYear == 2015) select pay;
The error is:
Failed to create component 'NavigationUserControl'...'No connection string named 'AdminEntities' could be found in the application config file.'
There IS an app.config file in the windows form project with a connection string named 'AdminEntities'. I have also tried a few suggestions I found: 1) Changed * in the connection string to use the namespace of the class library and 2) replaced "
with a single quote. Neither of these changes fixed the issue.
How can I resolve this? Thank you.

How to specifiy the provider to be Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client when creating a dynamic connection string with EF Code First from Database?

I am trying to use the relatively new Code First from Database with the newest EF (6.x) and on an Oracle database (11g, but I have installed the newest ODTwithODAC). First of all, it works fine as long as the connection string is inside the App.Config file. But when I try to build it dynamically in the C# code (or rather, statically at the moment) it fails. I have it working with a dynamically built connection string when doing Model from Database though, so I'm at a loss right now.
First, I have created a second constructor for the context class that takes a string and does base(connectionString). Then I build the connection string via
OracleConnectionStringBuilder oracleBuilder = new OracleConnectionStringBuilder();
oracleBuilder.DataSource = "TEST.BLA.COM";
oracleBuilder.UserID = "ABC";
oracleBuilder.Password = "abc";
oracleBuilder.PersistSecurityInfo = true;
string connection = oracleBuilder.ToStrin();
Now trying to open an EntityConnection by giving to it this provider-specific connection string (or even the static one from the App.Config) doesn't work; I get "keyword not supported: user id"). Trying it by creating a context and giving this connection string doesn't work either. I'm pretty sure that this is because I didn't specify the provider to use; after all, it should use the Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client provider and not an SQL Server based one.
I then tried to get around this by using an EntityConnectionStringBuilder on top and specifying the provider keyword there, but then I get "keyword not supported: provider" when using it in the context constructor, and "the 'metadata' keyword is always required" when using it with the EntityConnection constructor.
As I said above: I bet it's the provider that I have to specify somehow, but I don't know how. The code that does work is the following:

Deployment from 11g to 10g connection string cannot get provider error.

Hi, I'm doing a deployment from oracle client 11g to 10g. Is this possible? there are yes and no answer I have try out from the forum. All did not workout with any of the configuration setup.
For development I am using VS2012, MVC 4. EF 4. Oracle 11g

I have check the
1. Enviroment Variables path is set to the 10.../client_1/
2. Tnsname.ora already configured.
3. machine.config did not define the connection string path, as it is define in the web.config
4. Oracle.Dataaccess.dll is in the bin of my application website (v4.112.3.0).
5. In my application web bin folder also include additional dlll.

Hi,
I have copied a number of SSID packages from a live server to my test server and am trying to get them up and running but I have a problem with the connection. The only thing that is different is the server name. I decided to keep the same connection in the connection manager as it is referenced in a dtsConfig file. I changed the dtsConfig file to reference the new servername [Data Source= new test server name]. I also check my paths and they are pointing to the correct config locations etc.
I found this post which was similar to my problem but I still get problems with the connection

I updated the connection by changing the server name in the actual connection. I did this from the data flow tab in the Connection Managers sections (MS Visual Studio). Right clicked - Edit - changed the name of the server name to my test server and selected the database. Test connection was fine, and saved this.
Once I saved this, the connection string changed to my current test server in the properties of the connection. However when I run the package I get the following error:
Error: 0xC0202009 at ReportsImport, Connection manager "myconnectionstring": SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Login timeout expired".

So even if I change the existing connection properties and save and Build my package again, my connection properties (connectionstring, servername etc) all revert back to its original data source when I re-open the package. Simply it does not seem to be saving the connection properties i put in.
What am I doing wrong or how can I change the existing connection manager to look at the new server. The database is the same and I have full admin privilege on the server.
I don't want to recreate my packages as there are alot and they are not simple.
After changing the connection properties, saving and reloading I get a connection error. But this is because it is not retaining the new connection manger setting i entered.
Incidentally - I created a new SSID to perform a simple connection and write to the the server and it was OK so there is no problem with actually seeing the my test server.

Yes, the package is in visual studio and I have executed it. There are no errors but in the output i have the error message about my connection. My dtsConfig file is added to the project in the 'Package Configuration Organizer' and path and files are correct. This is the output error:

How to determine the connection string to a SQLite database, in C# code

Hello. I'm trying to figure out how to specify the connection string to a SQLite database, I would like to access using the following code:

What does SQLite connection strings has to do with WPF?
You will find some valid connection strings here:
https://www.connectionstrings.com/sqlite/
But you cannot use the SqlConnection class to connect to a SQLite database. You will need to download and add a reference to the System.Data.SQLite library and then use the SQLiteConnection class:

Did you check that the DB is up ? If not, then check it and, eventually, start it up.
If yes, then open a DOS window, set your ORACLE_SID, connect to Sqlplus as sysdba and type :

How to set ApplicationIntent=ReadOnly in Connection String for SharePoint 2013

SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012 allows us some additional options to create HA and DR sites through AlwaysOn Availablibity Groups and Listeners. Problem that I'm having is that I have a DR site that is at a different location. Microsoft
recommends not to stretch the farm across different locations, so I've created a separate farm for DR. I have my content database in an Availability Group so that is Asynchronously commits data changes across the 2 locations. My DR site
connects to the content database through a Listener.
Since the DR site is connecting to the content database through the Listener, it is connecting the primary replica. In order to connect to the Read Only secondary replica, I need to add "ApplicationIntent=ReadOnly"
to the connection string. How do you do that?

It supports a secondary being Readable, that is all it is telling you. It does not support, nor implement, Read-Intent. This is expected behavior. You can look at the Conn Strings via PowerShell, of course:

Change local connection string on remote server

Hello,
I have searched every post and tried every connection string there but can't figure out how to connect to my database on my remote server. I am using Visual Developer 2005 Express Edition in C# and uploading it to a Windows server running asp.net 2.0. The domain has not resolved yet.
I am so new to this and have followed many tutorials step by step but none of them address this issue. They just show how to upload it to the server.
Do I need to use the SQL server provided by my host or can the database stay in the App_Data folder?
My local connection string works locally:

   Does ColdFusion support Windows Authentication or I have to have my connection string in plain text in my cfm files?
   Can I have connection string in my form or I have in one config file?

That is a broad question. Are you referring to connections to data sources, or recognizing user IDs for site logins? If the former, you can configure the database logins (with some caveats) within the secure CF Administrator, and never have to pass credentials directly in your CFML code. As for user IDs for logins, if you configure your webserver (IIS) to use Windows Authentication via NTLM, Coldfusion will receive the Windows login and make it acccessible to you via CGI variables.
