Connection to Ingres 6.4

As part of a demonstration prototype, I want to build an application module that accesses an Ingres 6.4 database.
I can define a Connection OK, and testing the connection succeeds.
However, if I open a viewer on the Connection object as a Database browser, I don't get any nodes displayed.
Also, If I use the wizard to build a Business Components project, the 'Create Entity Objects and Associations...' screen does not list any tables etc. for the database.
Any ideas ?
(Incidentally, using the corresponding features of JBuilder 3 lists the tables OK)

Hi there,

Looks like its actually connecting ok, as it includes the message "Created new ODBC connection (16585544)"
The ODBC driver is from CA (ingres) v3.5
    - not sure that this fully supports all the requirements specified in the doc, and its not very well documented.
    - the latest version available from their website is 2.8 which has some docs to say what it supports:
"The Ingres ODBC driver is a 2.x ODBC driver that supports all core and level 1 functions plus the following level 2 functions:
SQLExtendedFetch (through Microsoft Cursor Library only)
    SQLForeignKeys
    SQLMoreResults
    SQLNumParam
    SQLPrimaryKeys
    SQLProcedureColumns
    SQLProcedures
SQLSetPos (through Microsoft Cursor Library only)"
In order to test the configuration, I also copied the entries in the tnsnames and listener files, created a separate DSN, and set up a connection to an Access database - and this works fine, so I don't believe it is a configuration problem.
Is there anyone out there who has tried to connect to ingres, and is there an issue with the ingres ODBC driver.
    Any help appreciated.
    Leo

I'm using the Ingres 2.80.00.64 driver on NT successfully with hsodbc delivered with V92 Oracle database release.
About the provided trace file... Normally you should have a look at the odbc driver AND the hsodbc log file to see the real cause.
But according t the file you provided:
    This error is normal: [G000]
The S1009 needs more clarification and thus an ODBC driver trace would help as well.

    Hi all,
Is there any way for Forte 2.0 to connect to Ingres 6.4 running on

  • ODBC Driver to connect to Ingres Database from OBIEE

{font:Verdana}Hi, I have a requirement to source data from an Ingres Database into OBIEE. I have checked and found that Openlink Software provides an ODBC Driver to connect to Ingres Database from windows OS. Has any one tried this or any alternate method to source data from Ingres DB to OBIEE?
    Any pointers would be great.
    Thanks,
    Kiran{font}

    Kiran,

Sorry for bad news, but my opinion is that whatever isn't in doc that it's not supported. Oracle engineers do thorough testing and the list of compatible DBs is created. Also, even if you manage to make it work - you're going to hit a roadblock with any support issues you might have. Also, you won't be able to take advantages of certain DB-related OBIEE features. So you are're potentially exposing yourself to too many risks if anything goes wrong at mid-development stage.
My advice would be building your DW around Oracle-supported DB.
    Good luck

  • DATA QUALITY connection on INGRES

    Post Author: ryefrancis
CA Forum: Data Quality and Data Insight
    Hi,
Would like to ask if any you guys have any idea on the error prompt "NO COLUMNS SHOULD BE RETRIEVED FOR THIS TABLE. A POSSIBLE REASON IS THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE SELECT PERMISSION FOR THIS TABLE OR DATABASE"?
The database being used is INGRES. We already tried to update its
security settings and Grant Access still it won't establish a
    connection.
But when we try using SQL statements instead of SQL HELPER we could get some reports.
Hope you could have any suggestions and solutions to this problem.
    Good Day!!!

Ingres is not supported for Data Insight however if you will send some additional information we may be able to check if anything obvious is missing.
Two items that may help are the connection information from the Data Insight repository (iqi_connection table) for this source and screen shots of the populated connection dialogs.

  • JDBC Receiver adapter error  Ingres

    Hi all,
    i need some help.
I m trying to implement a R/3 IDoc -> XI -> DB Ingres 2.6 communication scenario and i m getting the following error in the communication channel monitor:
"Error when attempting to get processing resources: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: DriverManagerException: Cannot establish connection to URL 'jdbc:edbc://
The only file which i install in the com.sap.aii.af.jmsproviderlib is the edbc.jar. Do we need some other file(s) for ingres 2.6?
    Thanks and regards Stefanos

    Thanks a lot people.
The problem is solved. Finally we do use\install the iijdbc.jar driver with the following
    communication channel settings:
    JDBC Driver:  com.ingres.jdbc.IngresDriver
    Connection: jdbc:ingres://192.168.131.7:II7/testdb;ENCODE=GREEK
This solves the problem and we are able to update the ingres Data Base.
    Best regards

  • Migrating from ingres 6.4 to sql server

    Hi,
I’m looking at exporting ingress 6.4 database data running on Solaris 10 to MS SQL server 2008R2 since we are decommissioning the old ingres 6.4 databases.
Currently I am successful at transferring data from ingres 9.2 databases to sql server using the ingress 9.2 client component which I installed on a windows sql server box. I configured the vnode info using ingres network utility (netutil).
However, I have had no success connecting to ingres 6.4 using netutil. Can anyone help point me in the right direction. Might guess is the vnode setup on Ingres is the problem but I do not know what commands to run to check.
Basically I'm using SQL import wizard to import the data using Ingres ODBC drivers.
    Thanks,
    Thong

    Hi w,
We need to verify setting up a full client Ingres installation and configuring Net on both the client and server before exporting ingress 6.4 database data to SQL server.
If using the netutil to set up general access, we should create a virtual node with virtual node name, login/password and connection data.
In addition, if necessary, on the server, use netutil's test menu option to see if the connection works. If it does, you can access a remote database in the following manner:
    $ sql <virtual node name>::<database name>
There is one article about introduction Ingres, we can review this topics.

  • Bridge jdbc-odbc?

    Hellow,
do you know if exists any driver-bridge to connect a INGRES data base with jdbc from Microsof Acesss?. I know that is possible between ODBC, but in order to protect the security we need to look for any platform with jdbc.
What do you say about this?

    Huh?
Ingres is a database. MS Access is a database.
Using JDBC you connect to one or the other.
Now maybe the following applies to you.
    1. You have created a database in MS Access.
    2. That database uses ODBC to connect to Ingres.
    3. When you are in the MS Access GUI and you open that database it asks you for the Ingres user/password.
If that is your situation then you are out of luck. You can't do it in jdbc. I doubt that you can do it in JNI (unless there it can be done via OLE.) I would suppose that you could create the original ODBC connection in the ODBC panel for Ingres and specify the user/password in there. If you succeed then the MS Access GUI will not ask for it again, and so it should work in jdbc.

  • RE: Partition workshop hangs

    Sounds ugly. Couple of thoughts.
I assume you've created a test harness to load seperate partitions to ensure
    the basics are working?
Check it out on fscript ( findproj badname, removeconf, findact, partition 0
    , showplan ). Maybe showplan
will identify a hole in your repository.
If you have multiple services in seperate partitions, try swapping in dummy
    noop classes for each. Could
be you have a failed autostart plan you didn't expect.
If that all fails, use the test harness to preload ftexec partitions in your
    environment and crank up the
Trace flags on them and leaf through the output...
    trc:c4:5:5 info mssgs
    trc:c4:9:10 Traces all notifications sent
trc:do:10-11 Partition manager( 10 for header, 11 for partition
    detail)
    Good luck

I posted this problem a couple of months ago & then didn't really have
time to look into it, so I'm posting it again. A couple of months ago we
started having problems running applications from the partition workshop.
Sometime they work & sometimes they don't & there isn't any repeatable
pattern that happened when they do work??
Once you get into the partition workshop & click the running man, it
churns for awhile & then we get a "loading partition into server" message
& then it goes off into no mans land. If I look at the task manager on the
client that's trying to run it, the ftexec isn't even getting cpu cycles,
although it starts out getting cycles, & then all of a sudden, it just
stops?? When I try to start Econsole to see what's happening, it won't
even come up?? IF it does run, I can exit out, shutdown the partition
workshop, go right back into the partition workshop, click the running man
& this time, it doesn't run!! No errors are generated either. Once it
"goes into no mans land", the only way to stop it is to do an "end task"
from task manager. A cancel run from the workshop doesn't even work?
I've played around with increasing the memory settings on the ftexec that
starts when you start Forte Distributed, I've tried different workspaces,
some with a shadow, others without. I've even tried uninstalling &
reloading Forte on the machine, all to no avail. We're running NT 4.0
    clients, Forte 3.0.J.1, Digital Unix 4.0.D .
Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions on what to do/try?? Any help
    would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi,
Try to increase the FORTE_STACK_SIZE. I think the recommended setting for
Digital UNIX is 60000 which is about 60k per thread.
I encountered similar problem before on connecting to Ingres. The problem
may be that the default is too low, so on some library calls, the thread
just hangs. You will encounter the same problem again when trying
distributed run because the same ftexec is being used. Sometime it works
because maybe by chance your run fall into another ftexec.
I handle such situation by browsing into the ftexec using Econsole or
escript. If Econsole/escript can't get into it, that means the ftexec run
away or hanged. I will kill -9 the ftexec and try distributed run again.
    Best regards,
    Peter Sham.

  • Ingres ODBC connectivity from AIX

    Post Author: iwakley
    CA Forum: Data Integration
We were using BODI 11.5.1.5 with DataDirect Connect V5.1 and the Ingres 32bit ODBC driver which was all working ok.
To get over a problem with handling "smart quote" characters (as inserted by MS Word/Excel) from a SQL Server data source in an Oracle UTF8 destination we had to upgrade to BODI 11.7.3.2 and DataDirect Connect64 V5.2. We have installed the Ingres 64bit ODBC driver and updated the odbc.ini to reference the 64bit driver rather than the 32bit version but this doesn't work. Using the Ingres tools we can test ODBC connectivity to the database and this all seems to be working. The problem seems to be that the DataDirect Connect64 ODBC Driver Manager is unable to load the Ingres 64bit ODBC driver. Has anyone out there managed to get this working?

Oracle Generic Connectivity and Transparent Gateways
Oracle offers two asychronous solutions for information integration: Oracle Generic Connectivity and Oracle Transparent Gateways. Generic connectivity addresses the needs of data access to many data stores for which Oracle does not have a gateway solution. This feature enables transparent connectivity using ODBC. Oracle Transparent Gateways provide the flexibility, power, and scalability to transparently access many non-Oracle data stores, including DB2, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, Ingres and Sybase, from an Oracle environment.
There is all you want to connect, via an Oracle database, to your informix database.

  • Pb to connecting to the demo database

    hi ,
    i'm newbie :)
i have just installed TimesTen with demo ,
i can't see how can i connect to the demo database in the command line (i'm on Linux)
what's the name of the demo database ?
    thanks for help
    :)

Y.Brunet, I can not be as sure in my words as you are, since I don't know how other companies and programmers solve these problems, but I cannot easily accept your advice to code dates as Strings.
In our company's projects everywhere in DB handling code we use PreparedStatements because AFAIK they provide better performance than CallableStatements if frequently used. Also they provide abstraction level - why should I know how the f!@# the Database expects dates/int/float/String... in SQL statements?
We use several DB servers - M@SQL, Access, Oracle, Ingres - they all handle dates in different way(not to mention that in most DBs date format is customizable). But code written for one server works on others (most of it, of course) because of this level of abstraction.
Let's leave the driver format the stuff as the DB expects and concentrate on the real work - pass correct values, perform logical checks, improving performance.....

  • Recognising a third-part driver for 'Ingres' database

    Hi,
Great product, SQL Developer. I use it a lot, recommend it to everyone.
I am trying to connect to an 'Ingres' database. I have the JDBC driver jar file. I have gone to preferences -> Database -> Third party JDBC driver -> Add Entry. From here, the dialog files the driver jar file.
I clicked 'ok' at this point, but this does not allow me to create connections. I guess I need to point SQL dev at the actual java class file with the driver. (like 'com.oracle.JdbcDriver' etc)
So I used the 'Add Entry' dialogue to look inside the jar file. But this still does not recogise the driver classes.
The driver are connection details are ok, I can use it from other tools besides SQL Developer.
    Any ideas appriciated!
    Thanks,
    JM

when having a look at the SQL Developer 3.0 data sheet it states:
With SQL Developer, users can connect to any supported Oracle Databases including Oracle Express Edition. Users can create database connections for non-Oracle databases IBM DB2 LUW, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Sybase Adaptive Server and Teradata for object and data browsing and migration.
=> So I don't think Ingres databases can be linked from SQL Developer. Squirrel might be an alternative.

  • Ora-28545 on a 64bit windows Oracle 10.2.0.4 vs Ingres 32 bits

    Hi,
we just pass to a 64bits version of ower oracle 10.2.0.4 databse.
We had a heterogenus connection who was woking A1 at that time. When we pass to 64 bit, we create the definition of the odbc in the c:\windows\SysWow64\odbcad32.exe (because with Ingres only 32 bit odbc exist)
At the test time of the dblink we had the message ora-28545.
I read in many forum that we can not do heterogenus connection in 10.2.0.4, but some person write they were able to make them work (none of them work for us).
Some have writen to create a dblink on a 32bit server and us it with the 64bit server (oracle), past by a other box.
How can i do this? or does it exist a way to make a dblink 32bit work on a 64 bit window 2008 server?
