Connection verification failed for data source using mySQL
Hi,
I having problem with mySQL datasource and getting the above error. This is only happening in our staging server. We are using ColdFusion 8 running JRUN4 and trying to connect to mySQL v 5.1.41. I tried adding DSN from my localhost using ColdFusion 9 developer edition and I am able to connect without error.I know that mysql server, username & password is valid. I can access the mysql also using mySQL gui tool from different pc and it works fine. I'm believe that this has something to do with mySQL driver? Can somebody shed some light on how can I fix my DSN connection problem? Thank you.
here's the error:

you ran the security Wizard, make sure the IPSec is allowing the CF

Connection verification failed for data source on port 1433
Trying to set up a DSN for a SQL Server database on a new computer and it's failing every time.
Connection verification failed for data source: csf

The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: SANDYPC:1433. Reason: Connection refused: connect
Now, when I installed CF 11, it installed on port 8500. However, when I try changing the port in the setup to 8500, I get this error:
Connection verification failed for data source: csf
java.sql.SQLException: Timed out trying to establish connection
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: Timed out trying to establish connection
I cannot find anything online on how to fix this! HELP!!!Hi,
Is that SQL Express edition? If so perhaps TCP protocol is not enabled. Is Windows firewall turned on? Check port 1433 is open.
Normally you would not create a datasource to apache port 8500, that is a web server not database server port.

Report Designer odbc connection string for data source using a parameter
I am using stand alone report designer 3 for the present and have a question/problem regarding the odbc connection string for MySQL when setting up the data-source
I need to be able to enter a parameter which is the database name i.e. BOE-201401 or say BOE-201312 etc from a list of databases the user can choose from.
at present the odbc connection string points to BOE-201402
the connection string is at present Dsn=Development Server for MYsql;description=MYSQL;server=ldndw01;database=BOE-201402;port=3306
my parameter has the name BOE_DATABASE
and in an expression it is as such
=Parameters!BOE_DATABASE.Value
I want to point the datasource for the report to the parameter value before the user sees the report.Hi Leslie,
Based on your description, we want to design a report with a dynamic DataSource connection string. There are the basic steps below for your reference:
Create report with static database.
Change data source to report parameter.
Send new database connection string as a report parameter.
More detail information, please refer to the following blog: Dynamic Database in SSRS 2008.

Connecting to Oracle Data Source using SSIS
Hi Guys,
Please I am working on a BI Project that requires me to connect to an oracle data source using SSIS.
Can someone assist me with the required steps to achieve that.
I dont want to use a third party tool.
Thanks
meHi lilutchay,
If the SQL Server Integration Services is Enterprise or Developer edition of SQL Server 2008, we can use
Microsoft Connector Version 1.2 for Oracle to connect Oracle databases with version Oracle 9.2.0.4 or higher, Oracle 10.x or Oracle 11.x. If the SQL Server Integration Services is Enterprise or Developer edition of SQL Server 2012, we can use
Microsoft Connector Version 2.0 for Oracle to connect Oracle databases with version Oracle 9.2.0.4 or higher, Oracle 10.x or Oracle 11.x.
While if we want to connect to other Oracle version databases, we can use
OLE DB provider for Oracle which has been tested in SSIS labs and is recommended by Microsoft.
For the detail steps for Microsoft Connector for Oracle, we can refer to the first blog suggested by Deric. For more details about the use of connecting to oracle using Oracle Provider for OLEDB from SSIS, please refer to the blog below:

Connecting through Data Source using JNDI
I would like to connect my application to sql server database through data
source using JNDI. But when i try to bind the data source object with the
logical name, i am getting following exception. How can i ger rid of this
error ? How can i provide the initial context ? I thought Java would create the default initial context by itself. But it doesn't seem to be true. Any type of help would be appreciated.

public static void main(String[] args)
RegDataSource regDataSource1 = new RegDataSource();
regDataSource1.regDataSource();Thanks you very very much for your prompt reply and helping me out. I have following questions.
1) Now i am able to bind data source object to the logical name. But the problem is that whenever i try to look up the data source object by providing logical name (i.e. DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("jdbc/EmployeeDB") ), it returns always null. I don't know why it doesn't return the correct data source object ?
Following is the code used to bind datasource with the logical name
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
"com.sun.jndi.fscontext.RefFSContextFactory");
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "file:/TEMP/jndi");
Context ctx = new InitialContext(env);
//Properties p = new Properties();
//p.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
// "com.sun.jndi.fscontext.RefFSContextFactory");
//Context ctx = new InitialContext(p);
ctx.bind("jdbc/EmployeeDB", sds);
Following is the code used to look up for the bound object
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
"com.sun.jndi.fscontext.RefFSContextFactory");
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "file:/TEMP/jndi");
Context ctx = new InitialContext(env);
DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("jdbc/EmployeeDB");
2) I am writing client server application in which my client is going to access the SQL Server 2000 to read/write database related data. The reason behind using the JNDI is that i don't want my client application to kwon which driver (sql) and database i am using. It is going to provide the great flexibility whenever i can make my application to use other database like Oracel, sybase, etc. without changing any code most probably. In this situation, which JNDI service provider to use ? I am not sure about "File System" service provider be the ideal choice for this type of situation. so please let me know which JNDI service provider is the ideal for this situation.
Any type of help would be appreacited. -

Hello there,
I have an Excel report I created which works perfectly fine on my dev environment, but fails on my test environment when I try to do a data refresh.
The key difference between both dev and test environments is that in dev, everything is installed in one server:
SharePoint 2013
SQL 2012: Database Instance, SSAS Instance, SSRS for SharePoint, SSAS POWERPIVOT instance (Powerpivot for SharePoint).
In my test and production environments, the architecture is different:
SQL DB Servers in High Availability (irrelevant for this report since it is connecting to the tabular model, just FYI)
SQL SSAS Tabular server (contains a tabular model that processes data from the SQL DBs).
2x SharePoint Application Servers (we installed both SSRS and PowerPivot for SharePoint on these servers)
2x SharePoint FrontEnd Servers (contain the SSRS and PowerPivot add-ins).
Now in dev, test and production, I can run PowerPivot reports that have been created in SharePoint without any issues. Those reports can access the SSAS Tabular model without any issues, and perform data refresh and OLAP functions (slicing, dicing, etc).
The problem is with Excel reports (i.e. .xlsx files) uploaded to SharePoint. While I can open them, I am having a hard time performing a data refresh. The error I get is:
"An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source [...]"
I ran SQL Profiler on my SSAS Server where the Tabular instance is and I noticed that every time I try to perform a data refresh, I get the following entries:
Every time I try to perform a data refresh, two entries under the user name ANONYMOUS LOGON.
Since things work without any issues on my single-server dev environment, I tried running SQL Server Profiler there as well to see what I get.
As you can see from the above, in the dev environment the query runs without any issues and the user name logged is in fact my username from the dev environment domain. I also have a separated user for the test domain, and another for the production domain.
Now upon some preliminary investigation I believe this has something to do with the data connection settings in Excel and the usage (or no usage) of secure store. This is what I can vouch for so far:
Library containing reports is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
Library containing data connections is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
The Data Provider referenced in the Excel report (MSOLAP.5) is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
In the Excel report, the Excel Services authentication settings is set as "use authenticated user's account". This wortks fine in the DEV environment.
Concerning SecureStore, PowerPivot Configurator has configured it the PowerPivotUnnattendedAccount application ID in all the environments. There is
NO configuration of an Application ID for Excel Services in any of the environments (Dev, test or production). Altough I reckon this is where the solution lies, I am not 100% sure as to why it fails in test and prod. But as I read what I am
writing, I reckon this is because of the authentication "hops" through servers. Am I right in my assumption?
Could someone please advise what am I doing wrong in this case? If it is the fact that I am missing an Secure Store entry for Excel Services, I am wondering if someone could advise me on how to set ip up? My confusion is around the "Target Application
Type" setting.
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
P.Hi Rameshwar,
PowerPivot workbooks contain embedded data connections. To support workbook interaction through slicers and filters, Excel Services must be configured to allow external data access through embedded connection information. External data access is required
for retrieving PowerPivot data that is loaded on PowerPivot servers in the farm. Please refer to the steps below to solve this issue:
In Central Administration, in Application Management, click Manage service applications.
Click Excel Services Application.
Click Trusted File Location.
Click http:// or the location you want to configure.
In External Data, in Allow External Data, click Trusted data connection libraries and embedded.
Click OK.
For more information, please see:
Create a trusted location for PowerPivot sites in Central Administration:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee637428.aspx
Another reason is Excel Services returns this error when you query PowerPivot data in an Excel workbook that is published to SharePoint, and the SharePoint environment does not have a PowerPivot for SharePoint server, or the SQL Server Analysis
Services (PowerPivot) service is stopped. Please check this document:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff487858(v=sql.110).aspx
Finally, here is a good article regarding how to troubleshoot PowerPivot data refresh for your reference. Please see:
Troubleshooting PowerPivot Data Refresh:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3870.troubleshooting-powerpivot-data-refresh.aspx
Hope this helps.

OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target
We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
Testing...
Failed.
SQL Exception
Repository Error:SQL Exception..
Class Name: CacheMediator.
Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
Testing...
Failed.
API2215: Cannot create database link. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and the details on how to reproduce it.
Repository Error:SQL Exception..
Class Name: oracle.wh.ui.integrator.common.RepositoryUtils.
Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
Method Name: -1.
Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWBs utility SQL Plus.
Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
- the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
- long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not. -

Missing Connection Types in Report Data Source Properties
I am running three installations of SharePoint 2013 with SQL 2012 for Business Intelligence, with Kerberos working.
I have been having intermittent issues with SQL Reporting Services in a multi-server configuration, but finally had it working in all three environments. We discovered many of our issues were caused by master page customizations which we have now disabled
temporarily while we work on function issues.
However, we started having a new problem with Reporting Services on just ONE of the environments, and we are not sure what happened. Most everything appears to still be working, except Reporting Services. I have verified that features are enabled
in both the farm and the site collection, as well as insured managed content types are being allowed on the target document libraries. I also verified the Reporting Service properties and database connections. However, I have found two clear symptoms
which I can find no other information regarding (in logs or in online searches):
1) If we try to create a new "Report Data Source" using the SharePoint UI, it will open a new Data Source Properties window, but in the "Data Source Type" field, there are no values available for me to select my connection type (e.g.,
Microsoft SQL Server).
2) In Central Administration, while administering the Reporting Services Service Application, I can manage a majority of the settings, including System Settings, Manage Jobs, Key Management, etc. However, if I click on the link for "E-mail Settings,"
I get the dreaded "Sorry Something went wrong screen," with an error saying that "Object reference is not set to an instance of an object."
So I am hoping someone has an idea of where I can look for additional information on this issue, or even better, knows what I am missing to get Reporting Services functional again in this environment!
Thanks in advance for any help provided.
ElohirHowever, we started having a new problem with Reporting Services on just ONE of the environments, and we are not sure what happened.
Hi Elohir,
I assume you are installing Reporting Services SharePoint mode for SharePoint 2013, you need to:
1. Install "Reporting Services – SharePoint" and "Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint Products" on the SharePoint server that the SSRS service will run on. All other SP servers only need the "Reporting Services
add-in for SharePoint Products."
2. Run the Insall-SPRSService and Install-SPRSServiceProxy on Central Admin and SSRS server.
3. Start SSRS Service only on desired SSRS servers.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219068.aspx
Since the issue occurs only to one of the environments, please provide more information about your multi-server configuration, and point out the server where the issue occurs.

Due to this data sources iam geting problem inmy process chain..
PLease help .Pts wil be assigned.
Thanks and Regards.
AkashFirst of all Rather than using SPRO to install Admin Cockpit, its better to install it from Business Content, else many of your existing InfoObjects would get overwritten and you would require to revert them back.
2ndly, check if these DataSources are available in your source system. While installing from Business Content, the system prompts to log in to source system interactively and would install the DataSources in teh source system if they are not there already.
Also check what versions are your Source Systems on. Older versions may not have the DataSources while the new concept of Admin Cockpit is available in BI7.0 which goes well with ECC.

Mapping of logical resource-name to absolute jndi-name for data source
Hi,
I am using SJS AS 8.1. I do a lookup for datasource using logical name specified in ejb-jar.xml using resource-ref element as below :
<resource-ref>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/db-resource</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>
<res-sharing-scope>Shareable</res-sharing-scope>
</resource-ref>jdbc/db-resource is mapped to absolute jndi name 'jdbc/jndi-db-resource' in sun-ejb-jar.xml as below :
<resource-ref>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/db-resource</res-ref-name>
<jndi-name>jdbc/jndi-db-resource</jndi-name>
</resource-ref>I have configued data source using admin GUI with JNDI name jdbc/jndi-db-resource. When I do a look up of datasource as below :
initalContext.lookup("jdbc/db-resource"); from the EJB I get NameNotFoundException. How do I configure logical datasource name using admin GUI ?
Thanks,
Manisha.Hi Manisha,
When doing a lookup of standard j2ee connection factories like jms or jdbc "java:comp/env" need to be prefixed.
initalContext.lookup("jdbc/db-resource");
need to be
initalContext.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/db-resource");
For more information :
