Considering Enterprise Manager

Hello,
We are considering deploying Enterprise Manager to manage our customers databases. We have 65+ customer around the globe and 100 databases. The database versions range from 9.2.0.6 to 11.2.0.3. All of them are on Linux OS. The big problem is that we do not have a persistent connection to these databases and must request our customers open a VPN then we can connect. So my big question is can OEM Grid Control handle this type of environment?
Ideally we would like the agent to monitor the DB and Listener and send us an email if thier is a problem. We would also like to use it to run the RMAN backups again emailing us if thier is a problem. Once we connect we would like to get access to performance data from the database and the host server.
Also if OEM Grid Control or Database Console is not realy capable of this perhaps some recomendations. We are also looking at PRTG and Zabbix.
Thanks in advance for any opinions.

hi,
if your not able to startup your database then you can see your backup set file for DBID but if you configure controlfile autobackup on.
SQL> select DBID from v$database;
      DBID

piece handle=E:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\C-2156049726-20070107-00 comment=NONE
Finished Control File and SPFILE Autobackup at 07-JAN-07

  • Wilyhost Agent could connect to the Enterprise Manager

    Hi Gurus,
I'm trying to setup Diagnostic for Solman 7.0. I'd installed Wily Introscope and SDM Agent in Solution Manager. The Agent was configured for this server. The Application Agent in Diagnostic Setup -> Managed system was OK, but when I try to run the Setup Wizard for Self-Monitoring, every steps are in green (OK) but the first was in red with this error:
    Step Wilyhost Agent Details

    Created destination SM1|qfmasr003_SM1_00
    Created action SAP GC|SM1_DVEBMGS00_server0 - SAP GC|SM1_DVEBMGS00_server0
    Created action SM1 - SM1 AbapSystem

    Created 3 action(s).
0 Wilyhost Agent(s) and 0 EP Agent(s) from host qfmasr003 are connected to the EM.
Wilyhost Agent configuration finished without errors, but on Enterprise Manager (qfmasr003.xxxxxxxx.com:6000) no Wilyhost Agent was detected from host qfmasr003. Please check the log file jvm_smdagent.out whether the Wilyhost Agent could connect to the Enterprise Manager. If the Enterprise Manager configuration has been changed recently please restart the SMD Agent on OS level.

    Hi Sergio,
did you already stop and start your SMD agent on OS level ? It is not enough to restart it from the SMD.
    kind regards

    Hello,
The errors you are receiving are typically a result of not following our published MOS note and our documentation. It’s important in order for Oracle E-Business Suite systems to be properly recognized by E-Business Suite Plug-in, AutoConfig must be enabled and updated on all nodes. You should prevalidate your system before the running discovery to help ensure success of the discovery process. These tests check that context files, context variables, users, and components are set up correctly in the system for successful discovery.
For more information on both topics refer to:
    •     Getting Started with Oracle Application Management Pack (AMP) for Oracle E-Business Suite, Release 12.1.0.1 (Doc ID 1434392.1)

If you are still experiencing errors after reviewing our documentation and taking the appropriate steps to prevalidate your system consider filing a Service Request with Support.

  • Wily Enterprise Manager Service not Started in Windows 2008 Server

    Hi All,
Our Solution Manager is in EHP1 SP21 and OS-Windows 2008 Server.
We installed Wily Enterprise Manager 8.0. and found 1 non-fatal error in the installation log. The service is not starting.
However it works fine for Windows 2003 Server.
Can anyone encountered with the same kind of problem?
This is the latest log file information:

Note 1273028 - Introscope 8 Release Notes resoved this issue.
Known problems in all Releases 8.x
    2. Windows Server 2008 is not yet officially supported by CA Wily for the Enterprise Manager. If you want to install the Enterprise Manager anyway, set the "Windows 2003 compatibility mode" for the installer before launching it. To activate this mode, right click on the installer.exe file in the Windows Explorer, select tab "Compatibility", activate the check box for compatibility mode and select Windows 2003. If you do not set this, the installer will consider your OS as Unix and install shell scripts (no suffix) instead of batch files (.bat) and leave out some files for Windows Service registration.
If the windows service still fails to start please check if files ServiceWrapper.jar and ServiceWrapper.dll are present in folder lib. If not download them from attachment of this note.
The service should start although giving an error message regarding the ServiceWrapper.dll. You can ignore this error.

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager "Performance" tab  (Oracle 10g)

    Hi,
How to I make a report based on Performance TAB.
    View Data -> Historical
    Sessions
    Runnable Process
    Active Sessions
    Instance Disk i/o
    Instance throughput
Explain : What is (example :*what is session for?* ) , What is X and Y (example :*what is X = Y= Time and date*)
Please reply.. I need it by today.. :(

The help file explains it a lot better than I can... therefore:
Interpreting the Host: Average Runnable Processes Chart
If you have opted to show both the CPU cores and CPU threads,
consistent values somewhere between the two line values may
indicate that too many users are waiting in line for CPU time.
Compare the values with those of CPU Used in the Average Active
Sessions chart. If the sessions value is low and the run queue
length value is high, this indicates that something else on the host
other than your database is consuming the CPU.
If you have selected Memory Access mode, the Host chart does
not initially display historical data, except when the screen was
loaded recently and cached historical data is still available. Host data
is cached starting from the time the screen was first accessed,
and gradually fills the history on the Host chart.
Interpreting the Average Active Sessions Chart
The Session Count is computed by categorizing the time
that all active sessions consumed in the last sampling interval
into different wait classes, summing the amount in each wait class,
and dividing it by the sampling interval. For example, If there
are 3 active sessions in the last 15-second sampling interval, and
each session spent half of the time (7.5 seconds each) on CPU
    and half of the time idling, then 3 x 7.5 / 15 = 1.5 active sessions
on CPU appear for that sampling interval.
Compare the peaks on the Average Active Sessions chart with those
on the Instance Throughput charts. If the Average Active Sessions
chart displays a large number of sessions waiting, indicating internal
contention, but throughput is high, then the situation may be
acceptable. The database is probably also performing efficiently if
internal contention is low but throughput is high. However, if internal
contention is high but throughput is low, then consider tuning the database. Selecting Memory Access Mode for Slow or Hung Systems
You can click the Monitor In Memory Access Mode link in the Related Links section to enable Memory Access Mode. The Database Performance page reappears with a Disable Memory Access Mode button and a Switch to SQL Access Mode button in the upper right corner.
You can temporarily disable Memory Access Mode by clicking this button, upon which the Database Performance page reappears in SQL Access Mode. To reactivate Memory Access Mode, click the Monitor In Memory Access Mode link again, then click Enable Memory Access Mode when the Database Performance page reappears.
In Memory Access Mode, performance statistics are retrieved directly from the Shared Global Area (SGA) using optimized/lightweight system-level calls as an alternative to SQL. Memory Access mode avoids the computation associated with parsing and executing SQL statements, thereby making it ideal for severe cases of library cache contention that can prevent the instance from being monitored in SQL Mode. You should switch to Memory Access Mode for slow or hung systems.
Pages in Memory Access Mode contain data sampled at a higher frequency than pages in SQL Mode. (Charts may appear to be slightly different from SQL mode for this reason.) Consequently, Enterprise Manager provides better information about where events begin and end, and can also handle short-duration events that might otherwise be missed.

  • Looking for what software required for Enterprise Manager Installation

    Hi All,
I am fairly new in working with Enterprise Manager, Previously used 11g Database Control, but never install Enterprise Manager (OEM). Now due to the increase in databases, I am considering to install OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) to list all database (from over 20 Linux severs) to one location.
I have read documentation and still confused on what should be installed for OEM. I am planning to use OEM 12c Release (12.1.0.4), my current databases are 11gR2 (11.2.0.4 ).
Could you tell what I need from below list?
    OEM (12.1.0.4)
Web Logic server (Do I need that separately, or will this be installed with OEM?)
OEM Agent on all other 20 servers (do I need to install separate software on them? Please guide)
    Any specific version of Java.
Please guide me if I need any other software or plugin.
I have already installed oracle software and have created a database by using “Custom” option in DBCA. My server OS is Linux 64 Bit for Enterprise Manager.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
You would need 12c OEM cloud control software , Database software(For creating repository) and agent software (For monitoring targets on other hosts)
Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.6.0.43.0 and Oracle WebLogic Server 11g Release 1 (10.3.6) are installed by default with the 12c OMS installation although you do have a option of installing it separately if you want but Oracle strongly recommends using the 12c installation process to install the JDK and Oracle WebLogic Server for use with Enterprise Manager 12c.

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager - HTTP error: 503 Service Unavailable

    Dear all,
some time ago I've upgraded Oracle Database 10g up to version 10.2.0.4.0 on a Linux system.
Now if I try to connect to HTTP Oracle Enterprise Manager interface (http://(My server name):1158/em/console/aboutApplication) I see this error into my browser: "503 Service Unavailable - Service is not initialized correctly. The Em Key is not configured properly. Run "emctl status emkey" for more details."
If I perform "emctl status dbconsole" command from command line I have this output
    TZ set to Europe/Vatican

Copyright (c) 1996, 2007 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    http://(My server name):1158/em/console/aboutApplication
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g is not running.
So I've tried to restart Oracle Enterprise Manager trough command line using "emctl start dbconsole":
    TZ set to Europe/Vatican

    http://(My server name):1158/em/console/aboutApplication
Starting Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control .... started.
Now dbconsole seems to be running as follows
    TZ set to Europe/Vatican
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.4.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2007 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    http://(My server name):1158/em/console/aboutApplication
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g is running.
but my browser always shows the same above error.
If I try to perform the suggested "emctl status emkey" command trough command line I have this output:

Check if your emkey file is still under $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/config/emkey.ora
    Also check Oracle doc,
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b40002/security2.htm#BABJGGIG
consider remove the recreate emkey if it doesn't work out.

If i understood correctly what you are trying to ask , you are interested in email notification when your node suddenly reboots/restarts.
And if it is so, this is will not be possible in the way like it is for tablespace, memory and similiar alerts.
Although you could consider monitoring alert.log content, because information about database up-down statuses can be found there.
For example , you could do that either by using external tables or by using shell/batch scripts;depending on the os on what your database is, and then after information that indicates database unexpected reboot is found, forward that information further (e-mail notification) .

  • Problems with Enterprise Manager Oracle 10gR2

    Hi,
The installation of 10gR2 on Windows 2000 seems to work.
I only have a problem with web enterprise manager.
I can connect to the database correctly and I can manage the database (creating tables, users and so on).
The only problem is in the first page (home) of the database, accessing with the web enterprise manager.
In fact I get this "error: java.lang.Exception: IOException in sending Request :: Connection refused", but I however access the db.
I verified the DBSNMP user and it's active.
Did someone get the same error?
Excuse if I'm repeating a previous post, but I received answers about linux environment only (I have Windows 2000 server, instead).
    thanks a lot,
    Francesco

We have in fact seen the same error. In our case, it appeared after the network guys moved the Oracle server from one domain to another. (This is not an action that I highly recommend, by the way.)
I used emca to delete the Enterprise Manager agent and recreate it. For a single instance server not in a cluster or on a grid, the commands look like this:
    emca -deconfig dbcontrol db
    emca -config dbcontrol db
That worked just fine. However, we started getting an "account locked" error when the Enterprise Manager started. And the result is the same as you described. The account is not locked by any means. If you ignore what you see on the screen about an error, you can go on and administer the database just fine. It's just when you get back to the home screen, it tells you that your account is locked and you are not in touch with the instance.
I can make the error go away for awhile by stopping and starting the agent with
    emctl stop dbconsole
    emctl start dbconsole
But the error comes back in a little while.
We don't consider it a show stopper, since the database performs normally. It's just one of those things you wish it would not do.

  • Audit settings link in oracle 10g r1 enterprise manager

    Hello,
Can anybody direct me where can I find "*Audit settings*" link in Enterprise manager?
    Oracle version is *10g r1*.
In the book it's written, that "Audit settings" link is located in Administration tab, under Users & Privileges region. But the version of Oracle described in the book is 10g r2. I assume the name and location of the link is different in previous version.

    Hi,
I'm Galit from the QE team of VIN.
All the things that you've described are correct.
It is actually an edge case where the only VM, that the manual App can be managed from its Map view, was removed from the App.
The Manual App management is as designed, and may be changed in the future.
There are 2 ways to overcome this situation:
1.You can, as you stated, create another Manual App with similar name and remain with the "Zombie App".
    2. To run a specific command that will remove the Zombie App from the DB.
Please note that option no. 2 involves using an API that we do not publish.
If you would like to use option no. 2 contact me in private and we will see about supplying the relevant commands to run in order to delete the "zombie" application.
    Thanks,
    Galit Gutman

  • Stopping the Enterprise Manager Console (Oracle 10g on SuSE 9.1)

I'm trying to stop the Enterprise Manager Console by issuing the command:
    ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin/emctl stop dbconsole
Unfortunately, the command fails to stop the EM Console. Here's the output I get:
    TZ set to US/Pacific
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.1.0.2.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2004 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    http://<hostname>:5505/em/console/aboutApplication
Stopping Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control ...
--- Failed to shutdown DBConsole Gracefully ---
    failed.
The only way I can stop the EM Console (and related services--i.e., emagent) is to kill its process.
Everything (Listener, DB Instance, EM Console) starts fine. I can stop the Listener and DB Instance without any problems. It's just the EM Console shutdown that doesn't happen cleanly.
Has anyone else encountered the same condition? If so, what was the solution?
    Here's my operating environment:
    SuSE 9.1 (Kernel 2.6.5-7.108-default)
    Oracle 10g
Thanks in advance for any help/insight.

Has anyone else encountered the same condition? If so, what was the solution?Yes. Shutdown/reboot of the system made the error go away.
    Sorry, no better clues,
    Toni
