Console WAR deployment editor tool damage my web.xml file

I put many servlet and servlet-mapping items in web.xml file. When I deployed my
web app into weblogic 7.0 SP1 server, I use the console to open the deployment
description, and change some parameters for the servlet. After I clicked the persist
button, the web.xml file was changed, but some servlet and servlet-mapping items
was removed unexpected.
Why?
When I start the server in Development mode, this error occured rather often.
In the product mode, this error occured a few times.
My operation steps:
1. undeploy the original app from console
2. copy the new war file to the applications directory, overwrite the old one
3. use the console to open the deployment description, make the changes
4. persist the changes
5. re-deploy the web app
Please give the solution as soon as possible

    Your web.xml file is out of date.
    You have a DTD there for the Servlet 2.2 spec.
    The jsp-config tag was introduced to web.xml as of the Servlet 2.4 specification - which is why it is complaining in your editor.
    Seeing as you have Tomcat 6, I would recommend you change your web.xml to look like this
    - removed the DTD
    - change the web-app tag to include schema information

  • Configuring a JNDI ressource in the web.xml file

    Hi,
    does someone know if there is a way to configure a JNDI ressource with its parameters only in the web.xml file ?
    In my case, the JNDI ressouce is an oracle database an its conenction paramters: driverClassName, username, password, etc...
    Actually, I put everything in the configuration file of Tomcat but I would like my war file to be 100% independent of the application server.
    Thanks in advance.
    Fred.

    I'm pretty sure you can't do it that way round. The logic of the thing is that database access URLs etc. tend to depend on the where the server is. The whole idea of these resources is to put the stuff that's specific to the server in server.xml and refer to it using names that should remain the same if you deploy your webapp on another server. Of, for example, you have test, stage and production servers running the same webapps but connecting to different databases.

  • Whats the purpose of the web.xml file?

    Hi
    What is the purpose of the web.xml fle?
    and does it have any impact on deployment?
    I get this msg when I am compiling .
    ignoring C:\JDeveloper9iRC\jdev\mywork\MIS_IntranetWS\mis_intranet\public_html\WEB-INF\web.xml; not on sourcepath
    I cannot deploy but for what reason I don't know. Am wondering if this is related at all
    Thanks

    The web.xml file is the standard deployment descriptor for a J2EE web application (or "web module" when it is part of a J2EE Application). The full details of what the web.xml is for is described in the Servlet 2.2 spec (if you're using J2EE 1.2) or the Servlet 2.3 spec (if you're using J2EE 1.3). You can download the Servlet spec from http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/download.html
    The web.xml file is used when deploying a WAR file to a J2EE app server. However the message you cite isn't indicating a deployment failure. When you get a deployment failure, you should see a message in the JDev Log Window indicating the reason for the failure. Be sure the Log Window is visible by selecting View | Log Window from the main menu.

  • Add virtual directory to orion-web.xml file of embedded OC4J instance

    I'd like to add a virtual directory to the orion-web.xml file of the embedded OC4J application which comes with JDeveloper (version 10.1.3.3.0.4157). Every time I run my application however, a new orion-web.xml file is created which overwrites the orion-web.xml file with my virtual directory. The orion-web.xml is located in the <JDev_Home>\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.41.57\embedded-oc4j\application-deployments\current-workspace-app\<app Name> directory.
    Does anybody know a solution to this problem?

    hi there,
    i have the same problem, all the configuration files are included in the EAR file, like application.xml,...
    but the orion-web.xml is not included.
    I dont have that option that you mencioned File->New->Deployment Descriptiors -> web...for oc4j...
    I can create a EAR, WAR or JAR in File->New->Deployment Profiles.
    I need the orion-web.xml to define the MIME types the servlet can return, is it really needed?

  • How to avoid inserting CheckSessionFilter in to the web.xml file?

    Mobile Server modifies the web.xml during adding a .war-file to the publication. A new entry- CheckSessionFilter will be inserted inside the web.xml after uploading to the mobile server:
    ****************** inserted part **********************
    <filter>
    <filter-name>CheckSessionFilter</filter-name>
    <filter-class>oracle.lite.web.CheckSessionFilter</filter-class>
    </filter>
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>CheckSessionFilter</filter-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    </filter-mapping>
    ****************** inserted part **********************
    Our application has own security-concept and don’t need this additional session checking.
    How can we avoid including of CheckSessionFilter in to our web.xml?

    Don't do "add a war option" Instead, package your application using packaging wizard omitting the filter. Or, you can edit the WEB-INF/web.xml file on the mobile server after you deploy it.
    Make you update the APPLICATIONS table
    UPDATE APPLICATIONS
    SET PUBLISH_TIME = SYSDATE
    WHERE NAME = 'you application';
    You application will be uploaded to:
    STANDALONE
    ORACLE_HOME/mobile_oc4j/j2ee/application/mobileserver/applications/yourapplication/WEB-INF/web.xml
    IAS
    ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/application/mobileserver/applications/yourapplication/WEB-INF/web.xml

    Your DOCTYPE references 2.4, it should be 2.3. WLS 8.1 supports J2EE 1.3 which was servlet 2.3.
    Servlet 2.4 is part of J2EE 1.4 and is supported by WLS 9.0/9.1. Also it uses XML Schema not a DTD.

  • JSP compiler reading the web.xml file?

    Hi,
              I am trying to use the weblogic JSP compiler (weblogic.jspc) to
              pre-compile some JSP that use custom tags. Does the compiler
              read the web.xml file if there is one? In particular the taglib
              elements in that file so that the compiler understands the
              <%@ taglib ... %> directive.
              In the JSP I try to compile I use this statement to declare a taglib:
              <%@ taglib uri="xyz/xyz-taglib" prefix="xyz" %>
              and in my web.xml I have:
              <taglib>
              <taglib-uri>xyz/xyz-taglib</taglib-uri>
              <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/tlds/xyz.tld</taglib-location>
              </taglib>
              When I try to compile the JSP I get the following error:
              Could not parse embedded JSP code: weblogic.utils.ParsingException: nested
              IOException: java.io.IOException: cannot resolve 'xyz/xyz-taglib' into a
              valid tag library.
              Any ideas how I can resolve this?
              In advance thank you for any help.

    I wrestled with this for a long time. I may have done something wrong, but to get my mySQL JDNI reference to work, I had to add it to the server.xml file. You can try with web.xml, but I eventually just got frustrated and put it in server.xml.

  • Automate creation of web.xml file for tomcat 4.1.29

    Maybe you should check if you can use Ant tool to do

    Hi
    indeed one small copy/paste mistake from me ... sorry for that...
    After you copyed the large chunk of code (as i discribe in step 1 and 2) you must rename:
    <param-name>portal</param-name>
    to
    <param-name>portal/finance</param-name>
    so then that part of the web.xml will look like this:
    <init-param>
    <param-name>portal</param-name>
    <param-value>
    anonymous=0,proxy=0,low_bandwidth=0,include_in_url=1,include_application_name_in_url=1
    </param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>portal/finance</param-name>
    <param-value>
    anonymous=0,proxy=0,low_bandwidth=0,include_in_url=1,include_application_name_in_url=1
    </param-value>
    </init-param>
    Good luck again...
