Contacts created on iPhone not being added to Address Book

I want to sync all my Address Book contacts to the iPhone, which is working fine, but any contacts created on the iPhone are not copied to Address Book during syncing, which is rubbish.
In iTunes I currently have 'All contacts' selected for sync. Am I overlooking some iPhone setting somewhere?

I tried erasing all the phone data as you suggested, but to no effect whatsoever (apart from having to setup my email/wifi etc. all over again).
There's definitely something strange going on with the iPhone -> Mac connection. iPhoto shows the iPhone as being connected, even when it's not, and is still showing 23 pictures, which is what was on the phone before I reset it (they are now gone from the phone). iPhoto also calls it 'Apple iPhone', while I've changed the name to something else.
Calendar syncing is still functioning flawlessly, but contacts created on the phone are still not being transferred.
What's more, the contacts I added to the iPhone before I reset all the data were still on the phone afterwards.

Contacts created in Address Book on laptop do sync over to iPhone - no problem - but not the other way around. I must retype contacts daily created in the field to laptop. Apple specialist unable to find the problem. Passed on to engineering, end of January. Haven't heard a word.
It worked fine until I updated 1.1.3. I had many issues after that update and am really leary of 1.1.4 after reading threads here. Have not updated.
Also drives me crazy having to spin that stupid wheel to find contacts. Come on do designers actually use this thing?
On the whole I'm happy with the iphone

  • Contacts created on iphone not saving to icloud

When I create a new contact on my iphone4 it is not saving in the icloud ... therefore not transferring to my PC.  If I create a contact on my PC it is saving in the icloud and transferring to my iphone4.  Any ideas as to why this is happening?

That must be the issue ... but how do I make sure when adding a new contact on the iphone that I am in the 'icloud' section?  I am looking at the new contact screen on the phone and do not see that as an option.
    thank you so much

  • Contacts created on iPhone not sync with iCloud

I'm having this problem for a while now. Since my last iPhone.
    Currently I have:
an iPhone 5, an iPad, a MCB and an iMac.
All updated with last versions, all using iCloud to sync contacts.
If I create a new contact on the MCB or on the iMac, it will sync to iCloud and to the iDevices. If edit this contact, or even delete it from the device, it will be deleted from iCloud, MSB and iMac.
If I create a contact in the iPad, it will work fine if on settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars, the "Default Account" for contacts is set to "iCloud" instead on "On my iPad"
The problem is: if I create a contact on the iPhone, it will not be synced with iCloud, MCB, iMac or iPad. It will remain only on the iPhone. And on the iPhone, under  settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars there is no "Default Account" for contacts, so I'm assuming it is set to "On my iPhone" by default.
Does anyone know how to add the option? or how to force the iPhone to create contacts on iCloud instead on the device itself?

Ensure that indeed you have your iCloud contact sync enabled on your iPhone. If this is true, try forcing the Default Account option to appear under Contacts on your iPhone Settings > Mail, Calendars, Settings. Then follow the instructions from here: iCloud contacts not syncing.
To force the Default Accont option to appear, simply enable an additional contact sync account such as Exchange or CardDAV

  • Contacts created on iPhone not getting copied to iCloud

Twice now, I have created a new contact on my iPhone 5s, only to not find it on my MacOS contacts list nor when I log into iCloud.  Oddly, the contact appears on my old iPhone 4S, which is connected to the Internet via WIFI. It has been maybe 15 minutes since I created the contact.  Showed up on the old iPhone immediately, but not yet on my Mac or in iCloud online.

One quick update, the contact in question DOES NOT appear on my iPad also running iOS7.  Not sure why the contact was copied just to my old iPhone and not my iPad.

  • Contacts created on iPhone not syncing

I've noticed that if I create a contact on my iPhone, that content doesn't sync to the other address books. So everything looks fine on my phone: I can see their name in Messages, for instance.
But when I move to my desktop Mac, I can see only the phone number in Messages, the contact doesn't appear in Contacts, etc. If I go the other way and create on my computer, it's properly synced to the other devices.
I have multiple mail/contact profiles/accounts (several Gmail accounts, my work account, etc.) on my phone. It's almost like the contacts are getting "assigned" to my work account rather than my main Apple ID account, so they are fine on the phone, but aren't part of the Apple ID sync.. so to spe

You need to move the contacts to the correct contact group for them to sync. The factory Contacts app does not provide a way to do this; you need a 3rd party app such as Speed Names, which lets you assign contacts to a group and to move contacts between groups.
You can go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars and scroll down to Contacts. Make sure the default account is iCloud so new contacts will go to a group that syncs.

  • Contacts created on iphone not going to lap top when syncing

Contacts are not going from iphone to laptop, either via the cloud or when I sync. I am using .mac instead of .me in my account settings. Will this be the issue ?
    steve

You can sync contacts over the air with a MM account, or direct with a supported address book application on your computer via the iTunes sync process. You can do one or the other, not both at the same time. When you are syncing contact info over the air with a MM account, the account information is not touched during the iTunes sync process.
Using your former .Mac address or account does not make any difference.
If a new contact entered on your iPhone, or changes made to a contact on you iPhone is available with your MM online address book when logging into your MM account with a browser, what is your setting for your MM account on your laptop for syncing MM contact info with the supported address book application on your laptop?
Any problems syncing calendar events with the supported calendar app on your laptop?

  • Changes not being saved in Address Book

    Hi,
I've been editing one of the entries in my Address Book (deleting the surname input), but every time I do this and go out of Address Book the surname comes back. Not a massive problem, but it's very annoying especially as it all links in to Mail etc.
If anyone knows why this is and how it can be fixed it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I just encountered the same thing while setting up a couple new Macs with 10.6.8, it's very frustrating, but I found the solution, at least in my case. Maybe this is the same problem you are encountering:
I imported a whole bunch of contacts from another Mac to the first one (using a batch vCard). Anyway, I noticed a few of them were out of date so I edited them. Then I saved them (using both the export vCard group and the Address Book archive), then I took that file to the second Mac I was setting up, and imported them. but I noticed that most (but not all) of the changes I'd just made (prior to exporting) were not saved. This was quite a puzzler, and took a little while to figure out why some changes were being saved and not others.
I believe this problem is due to a interface design flaw in Address Book.
You see, when you press the "Edit" button to unlock a contact record, the "edit" button turns blue (signifying that the record is editable). But what's not clear is that none of the changes are actually committed until you press the exact same "Edit" button again to commit all the changes you've made (on that record and any others edited since the "Edit" button was last clicked).
So, really, what's missing here is a warning dialog. When you select an Export option, and the "edit" button is still blue, a dialog should appear saying that "recent changes are unsaved and will be lost" (or something to that effect). In my opinion, the edit button should probably turn into a "Save Changes" button or something like that.
This is especially confusing, because the uncommitted changes are persistently visible in the Address Book even after switching contacts. In most databases, uncomitted changes are lost as soon as you leave a record without saving, but not in Address Book. It looks like all your changes have been made even though they aren't. And I think it's fair to say that the typical user will assume that when you export the address book contacts, the export will appear identical to how it appeared when they saved it, but if the "Edit" button was blue during the save, that will not be the case, and there is no warning to that effect. So it leads to unexpected behavior in that some recent changes are saved but the most recent are not.
Anyway, I'm sure there'll be other opinions as to the interface design, but it's clear to me this is the problem, and the solution is to always make sure the "edit" button is NOT blue before saving or exporting the address book or contacts.
I also wouldn't have noticed it unless I was trying to set up two computers at once (since the changes were so minor, I might have not ever noticed they weren't saved otherwise). So I wouldn't be surprised if this problem has been around for a long time and I never noticed it before.
    Hope that helps...

  • Google Contacts sync - Contacts created on phone not being sent to Google

    Hello,
I have setup my contacts with my Google account, and I can see all my Google contacts on my Z3 compact. If I create a contact in Google contacts, I will see it on my Z3.
However, if I create a contact on my mobile phone, it isn't being sent to Google. For the life of me, I can't see any options or setting to send new phone contacts to Google, either manually or automatically.
Shouldn't a sync work both ways? On my last phone this "just worked".
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

  • HT201269 Contacts on my iPhone not showing on my iPad

Contact on my iPhone not showing on my iPad, how can I sync :)

Well, you nailed that one, thank you.
I had 3 accounts checked off: iCloud, Yahoo and "From my Mac."
When I unchecked my Yahoo contacts from my iPhone, the contacts that were not syncing to my Mac disappeared from my iPhone - so that explains why some of my iPhone created contacts were not syncing with my Mac.
    Thanks again.
However, this now begs some new questions:
What is iCloud trying to tell me regarding that message in my account that says I can't review my devices unless I have iOS 8 and/or Yosemite?
When I am creating a contact, how can I tell if it is being saved in Yahoo or iCloud accounts?
How can tell what account a contact is associated with by looking at a previously created contact?
How can I transfer Yahoo contacts to iCloud?
And when I look at the accounts checked off under 'accounts' on my iPhone Contacts, what the deuce does "From my Mac" mean and imply?
Everything used to work fine when I first set up my iPhone and my Mac.  What have I done to screw this up?  lol

  • Contacts added are not showing up on address book.

I created new contact entries using certain apps, such as SimplyTweet, which did not appear on my Address Book. However, doing a spotlight search on my phone shows those entries exist, but cannot be edited. Anybody else having a similar issue?

    Hello everyone!
For all of you out there who have received phone calls, text messages, etc, and have tried adding a contact by means other than directly via the contacts app only to have your contact not show up ANYWHERE (except maybe in a spotlight search), this quick troubleshooting guide is for you.
Disclaimers: This can be performed on an Apple computer, I do not troubleshoot for PC's (however, anyone who knows their way around computers can easily modify the steps for a PC). This method can also be used if you sync your contacts via MobileMe like I do, and should work for the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4. I have the latest OS on my iPhone, but it should work with any recent OS. My iTunes has been updated to the most recent version.
Step 1: Open Address Book on your mac. Make sure your address book view is extended to show your groups in the left column. Under groups, everyone will have a group labeled "All Contacts". If that's the only group you have, it's time to create another one. Click the "+" at the bottom of your group column and name your new group whatever you want. For my purposes (as this was an iPhone issue), I named my new group "iPhone Contacts". Do not add any contacts from "All Contacts" to your new group, as this will be unnecessarily redundant. Close Address Book, you're done with it.
Step 2: Open iTunes and plug in your iPhone. Hopefully you have your settings to manually sync when you plug your iPhone into iTunes, otherwise wait until it's synced to continue. Click the "Info" tab in iTunes. The first option is Sync Address Book Contacts. Make sure this option is checked. Under the first subheading, make sure "All contacts" is checked. Below the groups box, there will be a line that says "Add contacts created outside of groups on this iPhone to:" and make sure this is checked as well. (Bonus info- Unless you created a contact directly via the contacts app on your iPhone, that contact ends up in another list. This is why you can't see it right now.) At this moment is where that new contact group you created in Address Book comes into play. Use the drop-down menu to the right of this option to select that group (remember mine was "iPhone Contacts"). Do not change anything else. Now click "Sync" in the bottom right corner of iTunes.
Step 3: Once your iPhone is synced, open the Contacts app on your iPhone. If it opens to a contact list, tap the "Groups" button in the upper left corner of the screen. You should see two or three sections. The top section will simply be "All Contacts". The second section will be titled "From My Mac" and will display both "All from My Mac" and the new group you created in Address Book. If you use MobileMe, you will have a third section titled "[email protected]", under which your MobileMe contact group will fall. Make sure you tap the top group, "All Contacts". You will find those "missing" contacts now listed among all your other ones.
Bonus: If you find you have duplicate contact names but neither contact has a full information card, you can edit the contact, scroll to the bottom and tap the "Link contacts" button, then link your duplicates to insure you have all the info you want.
Success!! If you have any questions, let me know.

  • New/Updated contacts on iPhone 4 not syncing to iMac Address Book

    Greetings,
    My problem:
When syncing my iPhone 4 with iTunes 10, iTunes will sync contacts FROM my iMac to the iPhone. It will not sync new or changed contacts from the iPhone TO my iMac (no two-way syncing).
    Further background:
I recently had Apple replace my hard drive and restored from a Time Machine backup. Everything is working properly except this.
    What I'm using:
    * iPhone 4 w/ iOS 4.1 (latest)
    * iMac 2.4 GHz Intel running OS X 10.5.8
    * iTunes 10.1 (54)
    Example:
If I create a new contact on my iMac, it syncs with the iPhone as expected.
On the iPhone, If I edit the contact originally created on the iMac and re-sync, the changes do NOT sync back to my iMac.
If I create a new contact on my iPhone, it does not sync with Address Book.
What I've tried so far that has not worked:
1.) Unchecked and re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts" in iTunes (one-way syncing works fine)
2.) Used the "Replace information on this iPhone" for Contacts within iTunes (contacts from iMac overwrite iPhone as expected)
3.) I had a trial MobileMe subscription that I cancelled months ago.
Went into the iPhone > Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > deleted the MobileMe account, keeping existing data on my iPhone.
4.) Unchecked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Went to /users/[username]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, deleted AddressBook-v22.abcddb and /Images
    * Went to iSync app > Preferences > Reset Sync History
    * Verified new addressbook and /Images folder were created
    * Re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Performed another sync using iTunes
    (One-way sync works fine)
5.) Deleted all Address Book entries
    * Unchecked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Went to /users/[username]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, deleted AddressBook-v22.abcddb and /Images
    * Went to iSync app > Preferences > Reset Sync History
    * Verified new addressbook and /Images folder were created
    * Re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Performed another sync using iTunes
Can anyone offer some suggestions? I have my address book backed up, but I'd really like to be able to perform a two-way sync from my iPhone to my iMac's Address Book.
    Thanks,
    Rob

No need for apologies!  Yes, it was checked.  Looks like I have solved the problem now and it was something very basic - in the preferences of Contacts on the iMac.  Looks like it's all synced now.  Thanks for replying!

  • Emailed photos taken with iPhone not being received

Emailed photos taken with iPhone not being recieved.
Photos I have taken with the iPhone and then emailed are never received. I have sent them to two different yahoo accounts and neither account received the photos... I sent both using EDGE and WIFI... Same trouble with both...
Any idea why this feature is not working ?
    Thanks,

    Now it's magicly working.... maybe....
I did as you asked and sent myself emails from my iphone and nothing was received.... tried sending to my yahoo account and my work account... did this 3 or 4 times and nothing was received and nothing was shown as being sent... even though I caould hear the "sent" sound each time....
I then tried sending to my personal and my work accounts and also added one of those to the "CC" line... so that email had 2 email address in the "To:" line and 1 eamil address in the "cc:" line... That one worked just fine !!! got it twice in my personal account and once in my work account.
I then tried emailing the same photo that I had tried before and it too worked correctly...
The only itmes that have shown up in my sent box are the last tow... the email with multipul addresses and the photo that I sent right after...
So... it appears to be owrking at the moment...
Thanks for your help... I'm not sure why it's working now.. but at least it is...
    Thanks for you help,

  • Events created on iPhone not syncing to iCal when I bought new Leopard iMac

that pretty much says it all... i had a powerbook g4 and no problem syncing. bought new iMac with Leopard. just noticed that events created on iPhone not showing up on iCal. Ideas?

    Ok, this will work.
    1. Turn off .Mac Sync in System Preferences.
    2. Open iCal and back up your calendar. File>Back up iCal. +(Just to be safe.)+
    2. In iCal, export all your calendars as file(s). File>Export. +(Note: You can safe these to folders that are in a similar order to the calendar groups that you might have for ease in importing them back in later.)+
    3. Delete all your calendars from iCal. +(Note: You will need to create a new "temp" calendar as iCal requires at least one calendar. *Also, it is very important to save the URL's of the calendars that you subscribe to for later importing.*)+
    4. Import the calendars you just exported. +(Note: First add a new calendar to iCal and use the same name as the calendar that you are importing. All the data from your exported calendar will be added to your new calendar.)+
    5. Open iTunes sync with iPhone, telling iTunes to reload all the info on my iPhone +(pertaining to iCal)+ INFO Tab>Replace information on this iPhone>check Calendar.
It's a pain and takes a while if you have a number of calendars, but it will work.
    Good luck!
