Content Area Search Engine
I need to create a search engine portlet for my content areas , in fact I found two portlets in the portal portlet provider, I would like to know where could I find this portlets' source code in order to modify them and create my own portlet, or is there another way to create the search engine?
Could anybody help me?
Thanks in Advance

Maybe you should have a look at CardLayout instead of doing a c.remove() / c.add() every time the user switches.

Hide specific content from search engine SEO, javascript
Hello,
I was wondering how good this would work to hide specific
content for search
engines.
<script>
var text =
'<table><tr><td>Hello</td></tr></table>'
document.write(text)
</script>
I have a site that has a database, when a user arrives at the
page the
database is checked against the ip and a flag is shown for
that specific
country. I would like to hide that from search engines as the
search engine
seems to make it local to itself.
do you think the above should work ok. I have been told else
where "just
make it display only by Javascript... search engines do not
run javascript
and should thereore NOT see the text"
would be interesting to know others commons on this.

Correct, but most people don't know that and just take the
Union Jack
for everything that's somewhat related to "English", hence my
question.
It's most commonly seen on pages that use flags to point to
different
language versions of that page.
This is not the case here, though, but I just wanted to point
out that
flags on a website can be troublesome. And I still don't
think that
determining the user's country just by looking at its IP can
be done
reliably, so some users will definitely get a wrong flag.
Whether this
might be a problem or not depends on the OP and his target
audience.

Hidden Content for Search Engine Use
Has anyone heard of web sites having hidden layers full of
text content that they don't necessarily want on the front page but
is there so that search engines could index their site much
better? Are you willing to take the chance? And - why would you have
such a thing
so far out of the main content section anyhow?
It smacks of spamming, and if you were my competitor for
position, I'd
report you.

Hi Everyone,
I have a couple questions and hope that some of you can give me some insight, thank you so much in advance!
I need to implement a search portlet. I realized that there is one built-in portlet that came with the 9iAS. But it does not provide all the functionalities that I need. For example, I would like it to be customizable, therefore the drop-down-list lists only the content areas customized by the users and it only searches in those areas.
Here are the questions:
1) It seems that the built-in Search portlet uses the database provider. am I right? Where can I find its provider and also its jar files (I am guessing it is written in Java).
2) If I have to write my own Search portlet, then I need to get the information about the content area such as which table the content area objects are saved to and how many content areas and in the area etc...
Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
VinceThere are some secure views that are available as part of the Pl/Sql PDK. They are listed here:
http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/plsql/doc/sdk23vws.htm
The views work by using information from the session context (see the wwctx_api package). Typically the session context will be set automatically by the portal framework if the request comes to the Portal Database via mod_plsql or the PPE.
To find the content areas in which the user has access to folders, you'll need to join the WWSBR_ALL_CONTENT_AREAS view with the WWSBR_USER_FOLDERS using the ID and CAID columns, respectively.
Content Areas don't have descriptions so a presume you meant the display name rather than the unique name. The display name can be found from the WWSBR_USER_FOLDERS view be joining WWSBR_ALL_CONTENT_AREAS to WWSBR_USER_FOLDERS again but choosing the root folder (select id, caid, language, display_name from WWSBR_USER_FOLDERS.ID = 1). You'll also need to restrict by language.
Please write again if you need more info. -
IWeb search engine optimization
I have created a prototype for a large, robust e-commerce site (using links to affiliates such as Amazon.com)and have asked several third parties for bids on site content enrichment/search engine optimization.
Has anyone had experience in this area? Can I give them remote access to my iweb template so they can make changes or can they do that directly on my public site? I'm told that iweb does not accommodate meta tags, alt tags, etc. so that there are limits to site optimization. I'm also told I need a site map (I've tried using sitemapxml but its free service is limited to 500 pages and I have more than that) I'm very comfortable using iweb but have been told that I should migrate to RapidWeaver (which I just bought) and have it hosted on GoDaddy. Again, has anyone had experience along these lines? The best place to look for the stuff you need is Rage Software.....
Their Sitemap Automator is fast and easy.
Add tags with the freeware SEO Tool.
Have a look at SERank. I haven't tried this yet as I get found in search engines too easily!
Rage also have an easy to use optimizer but you will find a faster, more efficient one here....

I host with Host Excellence due to there proven (by me) reliability and good tech support. They handle all my accounts and domain names which are auto renewed....
http://www.hostexcellence.com/index.php/v2/pages.packages -
I like the framework and the ease of use. Does anyone know to
what
degree the search engines will evaluate the spry tags, if at
all? My
guess is that a hybrid will be needed as discussed at the
bottom of this
page:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/data_set_overview/,
and
here:
http://domscripting.com/blog/display/41.
Any other ideas? All of my customers are extremely
search-engine sensitive.
RodHey Rod,
As far as I know, search engines read source code. In that
regard, Spry Data in general will fail since, the content is not
kept in the source code.
Check out the data set overview about the spry:content
attribute. That is used so that pages are more accessible and it
helps search engine stuff as well.
It allows you to have static content on the page, but
spry:content will replace that content on the screen with its data.
So this allows for content for search engines to read, plus
the dynamic aspect of spry data.
But in general, Spry and Ajax, doesn't yet play well with
these other technologies.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I am new to KM.I installed TREX server in separate Host.I am accessing the TREX server into our portal.I created the Web Respository and craeted Crawler and Index. When i check the TREX monitor and Crawler monitor everything running fine. But when i am Searching the content throough search engine i am getting the following error.
<b>Search Failure
com.sapportals.wcm.WcmException: Index does not exist; indexId = "test_index" (Errorcode 7)
An unexpected severe error occurred during the search call. If the situation persists, inform your system administrator.
</b>
Can anyone suggest me where exactly i am getting the problem and need solution.
Regards
UsmanHi Usman,
you probably deleted an index on TREX site, without deleteing the index in KM Index Administration.
This is simply not supported, because KM has no chance to register it.
You have to choices:
Either 'Reindex' this index in the index administration.
The other option is to delete it.

conclusion from godaddy:
Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript.
the content on the pages, (photo gallery, My Recipes/Blog, History, Friends) need to be formatted to HTML, PHP or CSS. No search engines (google, Yahoo, Bing) can crawl//analyze webpages built with javascript.
See if Apple allows iweb to create the pages in HTML format and ask how to make those changes.
I spend more then 1 hour on the phone with them but we didn't find the solution...
please i need help because like this nobody can rich my website...
www.chefdiego.com
thank youThe part of iWeb pages that give the search engines problem is the navbar. That's javascript based. One way to get around that is to create another blank page in the site that's not included in the navbar.
Add a text based navbar in that page with just the other pages in the site.
Also you can use that page for creating the sitemap for Google at Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps Generator.
Have you let Google know your site exists? This website describes how to get it recognized: Get your iWeb website found in search engines like Google Yahoo MSN and Bing.

We are running portal version 3.0.9.8.5 and would like to include 2 content areas in the search results. Right now we have the ability to search all or one content areas but not multiple.
Is this functionality feasible? The search engine is not set up to tackle more than one (but not all) content areas in 30985. so even with your own search screen this is not feasible. This functionality will be available in the next major release.

Can a search engine read the contents of a Library file embedded in a page?
Can a search engine read the contents of a Library file
embedded in a page? Or would SSI be the way to go. I'm creating a
large library of text-based information and links, and I want to
have much of it modular so I can add a link and all the many pages
on my site updates to reflect the change. A big concern is that
when a search engine visits my site, can it read the content
embedded in the library item, or is SSI a better method to help the
search engine read my content?
ThanksYes, search engines can read Dreamweaver library items. The
library only exists on your own hard drive. Once you add the
library item to your pages it's in there as regular HTML.
If you have more than 20 pages on your site, they say SSI is
better, because when you update you only update the SSI. If you
stick with library items each page has to be uploaded every time
the library is updated. -

Are the META tags in a pdf file visible by search engines?
I have several hundred newsletters in pdf format on a website.
I am in the process of entering META tag information (title, description, keywords) through the Properties panel of each pdf file. Is this information that will be visible by search engines in a WordPress site?
I ask, because every post in WordPress has a place to enter keyword tags. The problem I'm having in WordPress is that every post shows the tag information rather than making it invisible. If the properties information in the pdf file does the same thing, I won't bother with entering it again in WordPress.
Thanks to anyone who might have insight into this question.
Many thanks! It is a high order probability that your SQL's report generator is creating the PDF, not Acrobat (which by design and EULA cannot be used in as/with server).
That the report generator outputs to an old-old version of PDF bears this out.
Wiki articles on PDF are very nice for those high level intro summaries.
To know / understand PDF you purchase and study the ISO Standard for PDF (ISO 32000-1:2008).
Rather than "PDF validation" you may want to consider addressing the appearent root cause of the problem(s).
You can change the email2fax application to one that can deal with older PDF versions.
You can change the report generator to one that can output to the ISO Standard.
(Perhaps the in-use application can be configured to output to the current version of PDF (i.e., the ISO Standard).
