Content DB Search fails to find file

Search does not return the file when searching unless the search starts on the specific folder the file is in. When a search is performed at a container and or library level, the file is not found unless you perform the search at the /domain/container/library/folder level. Any thoughts of what to check for ?

I got the same problem here, and I found the solution from MetaLink.
This may related to the corruption of the folder index, try to drop and create the folder index. Then the search will be worked again.
1. Shut down the Content Services domain
2. Set the java environment variables:
set JAVA_HOME=%ORACLE_HOME%/jdk/bin
set CLASSPATH=%ORACLE_HOME%/jdbc/lib/classes12.zip;%ORACLE_HOME%/content/lib/content.jar;%ORACLE_HOME%/content/lib/backport-util-concurrent.jar;%ORACLE_HOME%/jlib/ldap.jar;%ORACLE_HOME%/jlib/ldapjclnt10.jar;%ORACLE_HOME%/lib/xmlparserv2.jar
3. Run the DropFolderIndex tool in the Content Services %ORACLE_HOME%:
java oracle.ifs.admin.tools.folderindex.DropFolderIndex
4. The tool will prompt for the domain and schema password;
The format of a Content Services domain is:
ifs://<databasehost>:<listenerport>:<globalDatabaseName>:<schema>
5. The output should read:
Starting service
Session established
Folder index does exist; dropping now...
Dropping Folder index
Folder index successfully dropped
6. Now re-create the folder index by running the CreateFolderIndex tool:
java oracle.ifs.admin.tools.folderindex.CreateFolderIndex
7. The tool will prompt for the domain and schema password;
The format of a Content Services domain is:
ifs://<databasehost>:<listenerport>:<globalDatabaseName>:<schema>
e.g.
ifs://benc211.be.oracle.com:1521:csinfra.be.oracle.com:CONTENT
8. The output should read:
Starting service
Session established
Creating Folder index...
Creating Folder index tables
Creating Folder index initial self-reference rows
Promoting Folder Root Folder to level 2
Promoting Folder be to level 1
Promoting Folder bepartner to level 1
Promoting Folder system-data to level 1
Rebuilding Folder index
Running search for FolderPathRelationship objects...
Processing search results ...
Selected and applied 2745 folder relationships
Completing the Index Creation
Changing update mode to Synchronous
Folder index successfully created
NOTE: recreating the FolderIndex takes significant time & CPU. Please reserve at least 2 hours
downtime.
9. Restart the Oracle Content Services domain and verify using folder-based searches that you
can now retrieve all files when doing folder-based searches.

• Fails to find files that exist, fails to search everywhere

Running OSX 10.4.3 on a Powerbook G4 1.5gHz and on a PowerMac G4/867.
I hope it is because I am doing something wrong, but so far I am very unimpressed with Spotlight, for the following reasons:
•It fails to find files that are known to exist. For example, I have an application named MacTracker. It is in my Applications folder. When I enter
tracker
in the search field,
(with location set as wide as "computer" or as narrow as "Applications", with or without a "name contains" restriction) Spotlight will not show MacTracker as existing, even though I can see it with my own eyes, in the Applications folder window in the background. Only if I search on
Mactracker
will Spotlight see the application. This seems ridiculous to me. Any search, especially a "name contains" search, ought to show MacTracker if I search on track, tracker, actra, mactrac, etc. But, no. I have to enter "MacTracker" if I want it found.
•I make use of OSX Mail only occasionally. For most of my e-mail, I use a Unix mail handler known as PINE. PINE stores incoming and outgoing mail as plain text files in /users/me/mail . However, Spotlight refuses to include that location in its searches. I have tried using the Spotlight preferences to add
/mail to the list of specific places to search; no luck, Spotlight appears completely blind to anything outside of the locations Apple arbitrarily decided I needed to be able to search in.
Can anyone offer any ideas on how to make Spotlight work for me, instead of against me?
Thanks in advance.

same problem here. the only answer i can find is....spotlight buh-lows. does anyone know if we can just revert to ye olden way of searching? simple things like: searching actually find the stuff you're searching for. and: list of items found arrangeable by date/alphabetically (just like any normal window in osx). also, is hitting apple-f essentially just bringing up spotlight in its own window, or does this search function differ at all? sorry to hijack the thread, but we suffer from the same problems. thank you!

• Spotlight fails to find files & folders

Spotlight frequently fails to find files or folders that I have created on my user. Some files and folders will show up, but perversely never the ones I want. For example, I wanted to locate a folder I have entitled "Business Card", so I entered "Business" into spotlight. I got a couple of "business" hits on my documents, and a whole slew of system ones and mail messages, but I had to shuffle manually through my files until I found it. And this kind of thing is happening all the time, to the point where I have virtually written off Spotlight.
I have all the options in the preferences list checked, and have placed files and folders at the top of the list.
Any thoughts as to why this is happening?
Thanks.

Spotlight is notorious for its weaknesses and erratic behavior. You might try reindexing your Spotlight. Open up Spotlight in Sys Prefs, go to Privacy and drag the HD Folder there. Leave it a minute then remove it by clicking on the minus at the bottom. This will force Spotlight to reindex the drive, which may take some time.
I mostly use EasyFind (free) instead of Spotlight.

I just did a Spotlight search on
Japanese English は
Spotlight found more than 3500 items, but the two sample Word files I looked at didn't have は in them.
This is really frustrating. Is there a way to ensure Spotlight only finds files with the input?

• Search can't find files that i know are there

I have files that I can see in the finder, yet when I search for them using the search input in a finder window, I don't see any results. It doesn't matter if I restrict the search to a directory above the files, or to just files, they just don't show up.
Is there any way I can get OS X to redo it's index of files?

• XML Content Upload Error - Failed to Find Handler

Hi
I am trying to upload an xml file using the tools under system administration but when I start the import I get the error cannot find handler. There are no other error messages and the view report features do not work. The handlers xml file property is <b>content.handlers.xml</b>
I have found a few postings on this issue but the only solution I have seen said that you need 2004 s
I am using 2004s

Can anyone help me to identify what is missing?

Hi Martin
I downloaded an xml file containing worksets. The purpose being to mass change the sort priority of  a folder within the workset (used as an entry point).
I want to change the sort priority of the folder with id 'mywork' from 100 to 10. As there are many roles (100s rather than 1000s thankfully)  I figured this would be the quickest/easiest solution. I used find & replace on a a large section of the my work section and changed only the section shown in the code below to be 10 instead of 100.
<Attribute name="com.sap.portal.navigation.Priority" type="string">
        <AttributeValue value="10.0"/>
        <Attribute name="administration" type="string">
        <AttributeValue value=""/>
      </Attribute>
The head of the file is as follows
GenericCreator author="XML Creator" version="XML Automatic Creation" mode="clean,execute" report.level="success" createMode="3" default.locale="en" ignore="false">
         <Property name="parent1" value="pcd:portal_content/com.burberry.content/Europe"/>
         <Context name="worksets" objectClass="com.sap.portal.pcd.gl.GlContext" create_as="0" parent="$">
              <Attributes>
It errors out straight away which is what led me to believe that maybe this was an issue with the portal configuration rather than my xml file. Any suggestions?

• Why does folder search fail to find known item?

With a folder containing over 1,500 .tif files, searches are not dependable.  Some known items are not found with searches.  There used to be a desktop database that could be rebuilt.  I understand that is no longer the case.
Thanks in advance.

You're right Gerard, but the trick with EasyFind is to use its options to narrow the search. There are quite a few options down the left sidepanel that will exclude all sorts of unncessary files, and over on the right next to the search bar is a drop-down menu from which you can choose which volumes to search (or 'All' if you wish).
Note that down the left sidepanel you have various options like using unix wildcards or phrases rather than just 'all words'.
Despite its name, EasyFind takes a bit of practice to get used to in order to use it effectively. As you've found, a global search without limiting any of the parameters can take a couple of minutes. However, in most cases you don't need that much power - users usually know something about the file (be it file type, string in the name, or vague idea of its location) that make a global search rarely necessary.
If you practice a bit with the options, you'll soon find it is a very powerful tool. Most importantly, it will - unlike Spotlight - literally find everything on your system that matches the search critieria.

I have AVG and have put Itunes as exception as read that might be an issue.  Im really not sure what to do .

Hi sooz180,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand you can see all of your purchased music on your iPhone but the library on your computer in iTunes is empty. If the music was purchased from iTunes you can get this music back to your iTunes Library two different ways. You can either transfer purchases from the iPhone to the iTunes Library, or you can just download the music again from the Purchased section of iTunes. I will post the information on both ways to recover your purchased music below.

• Search for folders or file on OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I can't find folder when I make Search with new OS X Mavericks updated? I have 4 Tr HD when am looking for my file I have to make search but now search can't find files?????
I already try this way Mac Basics: Spotlight but isn't working also, I use to do this search 100 time a day before I update my Mac, how I can do it now?
Please attached file.

Normally, Mavericks searches just like any version before. I just tried and mine finds folders just fine. The only thing I could think of is this:
Try going to System Prefrences -> Spotlight and make sure folders are checked there
Also, make sure that you have the correct tab selected at the top - in your screenshot, you are only searching through a single folder. Is that intentional?
If that doesn't work try rebuilding the spotlight index: http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/17/rebuild-spotlight-index/

Try reindexing spotlight: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes - Apple Support
If you still have problems, open Console app, select All Messages, then search for mds in the search field. Then search for mdworker. See if there are any messages indicating it is having problems with certain files.
You can also delete the index altogether and cause it to reindex with a command in Terminal. I have always assumed the method above will do the same, but I'm not certain. You must run this command while  logged into an admin account. Copy the whole line and paste it into Terminal.
sudo mdutil -E /
sudo temporarily elevates your privileges and will ask for your password. When you type it in, there won't be any response in the Terminal. Just type it and hit return.

• The "Search" facility in Finder doesn't find files I know are on my Mac.

I just typed "7-minute" into the Search bar on Finder for "All My Files" looking for a document I'd saved a few months back and the result came up with no documents. I looked in my Documents folder and there was the document I was looking for, "7-minute workout". This has been happening a lot lately. I've also noticed this same anomaly in Mail, where I will search for a keyword that I am absolutely sure is in a email, and it will come up blank, or only find recent examples and not old ones (I have all my emails back to 1999: disk is cheap.) I'm on Mac OS 10.8.5.
The only thing I can think of is that I had the 256 GB hard disk on my early 2008 20-inch iMac replaced with SSD recently (professionally, but not by Apple.) It runs much faster, but did I give it Alzheimer's in the process?
(btw, I'm a 35-year tech vet, including 3 years with Apple, so don't worry about being technical in a response.)

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender mdworker -o -k Sender mds | grep -v 'boxd\|Norm' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.

• Logon failed. Details: mscorlib : Could not find file.... XSD

I have been searching the forums and the web for hours and have not found a solution to a problem we are having.  We upgraded our reports from VS.NET 2003 to VS.NET 2008 and started getting the below error upon our Report.Export code.
Logon failed. Details: mscorlib : Could not find file 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\xxx\ConsolidatedReports\Designers\xxxFringe\xxxFringeFunderDetail.xsd'. Failed to export the report. Error in File C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\temp_90ed8e07-481c-4bdb-8c50-885854a143d0 {B8EC61FE-7931-4979-AD92-432C21013D77}.rpt: Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters.
So when I verify the XSD and set the data source location (XML File Path: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\xxx\ConsolidatedReports\Designers\xxxFringe\xxxFringe.xsd)  the report works fine.  The problem is that when another developer trys to run the report on their machine and their machine has a different path for the code, the report fails.  The odd thing is that some of our reports are working fine, it is only a few that basically are looking for the hard coded XSD path.
So, as far as I can tell the XSD are not needed (Re: ADO.Net (XML) Data Source File Path).  I have applied SP1 for Crystal Reports.  I am totally confused why this started and why the report is looking for a "hard coded" path to the XSD.

The RunReport is called by a button click on a form.  This method calls ExportFile which works until the line "Report.Export()" is hit.

• Icon (ie: Illustrator files) content no longer viewable in Finder.

Icon content no longer viewable in Finder. - Anyone have this issue with CS4 and Leopard?
For example: Illustrator file not viewable in finder in Leopard. Interestingly, I seem to remember that when scrolling through Illustrator files in the finder with Tiger, Panther, etc, if you have the preview window active, at least with .AI files, you'd get a preview of the graphics and not the default AI (or EPS) icon. Now I don't get any preview. Any suggestions?
I'm not sure if this is an Adobe or Apple issue, but I'm really finding too many quirks and conflicts between CS4 and Leopard that weren't issues in older versions of either companies previous software (say, CS3 or CS2 and Tiger).

...though it’s shameful that the old adage “if it ain’t broke (using the finder to preview file contents) wasn’t followed by Adobe and/or Apple. Thanks for this!
No kidding...
FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T FIND THE QUICK LOOK FOLDER **
It’s in your main computer system LIBRARY. You can’t search for it successfully, but I found it there.
You can also add a folder to your User Library called Quick Look (I named mine Quicklook and it worked as advertised.) I added it there just in case something went awry. You can have the same folders that is in the System Library in your User Library. I do this so I wouldn't mess with the System. If it works without a problem, and want it system-wide, I move the items from the User Library to the System Library.

• Searches not finding files... any suggestions?

Hello,
I am using a Mac Pro desktop with two external firewire drives. I was doing a search for files I know exist on one of the external drives and the search pulled up nothing. I went to my drive and found the files alive and well but the search in the finder won't find them. I tested out a bunch more files and folders on that drive and 95% of the files the search wouldn't find. It found a couple of files on that drive but that's it. Again, when I go to the finder the files are there. This is causing me a lot of problems because since the finder can't find the files my applications can't either. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to rebuild the drive index or something? Should I use disk warrior? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why doesn't Spotlight find files or folders? Why is there no simple file finder utility for Snow Leopard? Seems like I can find certain files (usually files which I already know where there are), but not the folders or files I'm actually looking for. In this case I'm looking for a Cisco profile file that ends with .pcf, but I have had the problem many times before. Am I missing something, or is the capability simply not there? Is there some kind of built-in feature that lets you find only the files that naive users can see?
Also, I'm uncertain about the difference between searching for a string that is part of a file or folder name, and a string that is within contents of the file. I would like to be able to choose which I'm searching for.
