Content Server 7.5.2 upgrade to use Oracle 10g database from MS SQL

Customer is currently on Content Sever 7.5.2 (Unicode) running with a Microsoft SQL Database. They want to
change to an Oracle database. During a new installation we would specify
Content Server with the Unicode Option and select the oracle database option.
We are now post installation (18 months) and the want to switch over to use an
Oracle database.
Can someone please provide instructions for doing this from MS SQL to
Oracle 10gR2 (patched up to 10.2.0.4) with the Unicode option (nvarchar2
(Unicode) vs varchar2 (non-Unicode)).
I have submitted an SR (7517840.994) for this and they indicated I need to post a message.
Thank you
Steve Brault

Hi Steve,
I am just summarizing the requirement you are having . Correct me if I am wrong
You have a CS 7.5.2 running on MS-SQL. You want to migrate to CS 10gR3 running on a Oracle DB ? Or is it that you want to migrate only to a new database which is oracle DB?
For the first case what you need to do is to export all your contents through the archiver for CS 752 and all your configurations and metadata through Config Migration Utility. Then install a new CS instance running on oracle Db and import the Config Migration Bundle and then all the contents through the archiver.
For the second case you will have to take a backup of the data on the DB and also the DDL's of the Tables that are created apart from the normal content installation. Then you will have to run these DDL's on the Oracle DB (after changing the syntax) and make sure that on both DB instances all the table structures are identical.
Then you will have to load the data exported from MS-sql to Oracle DB. The export ca be done to a excel so that the same can be loaded on the oracle DB.
Before this you will have make the changes in the config.cfg for the CS and that is as follows :
#Database Variables
JdbcDriver=oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver
JdbcConnectionString=jdbc:oracle:thin:@ecmtest.idc.oracle.com:1521:orcl
JdbcUser=testsr2
JdbcPassword=NsFKKQ0iRkKzvq+iDoXSDDqY2y1EgQhmRr7J3mDyvQQ=
JdbcPasswordEncoding=Intradoc
DatabasePreserveCase=1
Your config.cfg should have entries like this for Oracle DB. You will have to change the JdbcDriver,JdbcConnectionString,JdbcUser,JdbcPassword,JdbcPasswordEncoding
JdbcPasswordEncoding need to be changed to ClearText first so that you can put the password in normal language.
Hope this helps
Thanks

  • Download 10g database from UK-Server

    Hi
    I am unable to download the Oracle 10g database from the UK-Server. Each time I click the download link the page just times out.
    Your help is very much appreciated.

    "Best" implies that you have criteria by which to make the decision. Can you help us understand what those criteria are for you?
    If "best" means "easiest", the answer would be to use the DataPump versions of the export and import utilities (export on the Windows machine, copy the dump file, and import). Relatively easy and straightforward. But it has a relatively long downtime requirement-- the application(s) can't be changing data from the time you start the export to the time the import finishes.
    There are many ways to reduce the downtime requirements, but they generally involve increasing the complexity of the migration. If it costs you a million dollars an hour to be down, reducing the downtime is well worth it. If you have an entire weekend of downtime and a small database, the added complexity wouldn't probably be beneficial.

    How to create multiple graphs dashboard in Crystal XI using a single View from MS SQL Server 2005?
    I need to use Crystal XI and create a dashboard which shows some sales data and stuff, multiple graphs on a single screen.
    My tech team says they can display one graph per page but not 4 graphs on the same page as it uses a common view from SQL Server 2005.
    How to manage this? Can we call in multiple views / graphs in the same page? Say 4 graphs on the same page?
    We use ASP or .NET for calling crystal reports into the App.

    Have you tried creating multiple sections, putting each graph in a separate section and then underlaying the sections so they appear next to each other?

  • BLOB insertion in Oracle 10g database using ojdbc14 (10g drivers)

    Hello!
    I have a situation where I am trying to insert a blob data into oracle 10g database using oracle thin
    10g drivers, <b>ojdbc14.jar</b> in <b>weblogic 8.1 sp2</b>. I have the following error happening very intermittently.
    <u><b>java.sql.SQLException: OALL8 is in an inconsistent state.</b></u>
    And this is leading to the <u><b>"No more data to read from socket"</b></u> error when I am trying to
    insert the BLOB into the database. I have gone through the bug list of SP2 and have realised there is the
    following issue fixed in SP3.
    <b>CR124933</b>
    <b>An Oracle BLOB sometimes used a pooled connection after the connection pool determined that
    the connection was available for reassignment.
    Code was added to ensure the BLOB is completely processed before closing the pool connection or
    ending the transaction.</b>
    I believe the problem arises when we try to insert BLOB into database using a refreshed connection
    from the pool.We have upgraded weblogic 8.1 from SP2 to SP4 service pack inorder to come over the above problem.
    But this still continues to behave intermittently.
    We put ojdbc14.jar in our classpath and Weblogic startup classpath looks like the following :-

    export WLS_CLASSPATH
    CLASSPATH=${WLS_CLASSPATH}:${APP_CLASSPATH}

    After upgrade to SP4, there are new ojdbc14_g.jar(debug jar) and orai18n.jar jars in the ${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/ext/jdbc/oracle/10g directory added.
    Please let me know if I need to update classpath with the new 10g jars in the ext/lib directory or any suggestions

  • Client Upgrade issue in Oracle Lite Database 10g 10.3.0.3.0

    Hi all,
    Details: My Environment is Oracle Database 11g R1(11.1.0.6.0) With Oracle Lite Database 10g R3(10.3.0.3.0) on Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2.
    Recently i have upgrade my oracle lite database from 10.3.0.2.0 to 10.3.0.3.0 and also applied recent opatch (p12812978_103030_Generic.zip). Upgrade and installation of opatch got successfully completed. When i tried the client synchornization for the very first time (FCS and Data Download) FCS and Data Download got Successfully completed but the problem is usually Once the FCS and Data Download Got Completed , Screen goto webtogo home page but in my case i am getting a screen name called "client upgrade" with options yes or no if choose yes it prompting please wait screen nearly for 1 hours i am not getting any response from the screen. if choose no simply it goto my webtogo home page. Please Note before choosing the yes option i have checked what version i am currently having it show 10.3.0.3 i don't know why it asking for the client upgrade. Please Advice me on this how to avoid this screen (Client Upgrade).
    Thanks
    Shan

    Hi,
    i am not upgrading the existing environment of Oracle Lite Client i am creating a new environment which doesn't have the Oracle Lite Client. In the document itself they have mentioned like this "These steps assume that you have a 10g Release 1 or 2 Branch Office environment already configured and synchronized. If you do not have this environment currently configured, you do not need to upgrade." To be Clear What i am doing is with help Oracle Lite Branch Office i will be downloading a user from Mobile Server for that i have to do the following
    1.FCS(Fresh Client Setup for that i have to run the setup.exe which is coming for Oracle Lite Branch Office) and
    2.Data download (Data will be get download from Mobile Server in the form of odb),
    3. Usually Once the FCS and Data Download got completed, the screen will goto the webtogo home there i can see my branch offlice applications.
    4. But in my case i am getting prompted by screen and the screen name called "Client Upgrade" with options yes or no if i choose yes screen got hanged else if i choose no then only screen moving the webtogo home page. Say can u r having existing environment in your machine due to some reasons u have upgrade or u have installed optach on the mobile server in that case while doing the client synchronication we can do the client upgrade by running the update.exe becasue client side will having the old binary file we need to renew it.
    5. But I am not upgrading the existing environment. I am creating a new environment which means i am doing a fresh client setup and synchronization for the very first time. While doing the FCS on my client side for the very first time i will be getting the latest binaries rite then why the screen is moving to client upgarde page i don't have any idea on this.
    Please Advice.
    Thanks

  • Create MVs in Oracle 10g DB from Oracle 9i DB using DB link

    The tables of an Oracle 10g database is formed mainly (about 90%) from materialized views. These views are created using a database link extracting the data from an existing Oracle 9i database (10g connecting to 9i).
    The MVs created from simple queries does not take much time, but whenever a query contains "joins", time freezes and after four hours no results are registered independently of the database volume or number of transactions.
    But in case the MVs are created in an Oracle 9i database (9i connecting to 9i), the full creation time varies from four minutes to twenty minutes (about 1,200,000 transactions).
    All possible scenarios related to hardware and networking were tested and excluded.
    The resolution of this issue is very urgent because it is preventing our institution from upgrading to Oracle 10g.

    Why post this one into the OTN Feedback Forum rather than a more appropriate like General Database Discussions ?<br>

  • Slow first connection using Oracle 10g xe and Visual Studio 2008

    {noformat}
    Good day,
    I'm slightly unaccustomed to using forums, so bear with me.
    My initial connection to the Oracle database takes approximately 30 seconds. It seems to be waiting for a connection before timing out and trying another connection which works, as all subsequent connections work immediately. I'm unsure how other people's responses in forums can help me due to the plethora of configurations, so here's mine. My comprehension of the oracle world is still growing, you'll have to explain the terms you're using for me, Hoping you can help.
    I'm using Visual Studio 2008, set to use 32 bit debug mode, on a Windows 7 Pro platform. Also using Oracle 10g Xe, and have installed the 32 bit version of ODAC 11.2 (11.2.0.1) to aid making a connection from Visual Studio to Oracle.
    I have a database set up and a user with system admin rights. This is all local for a programming project and will never see the light of day outside of my personal machine.
    I am using code to connect, not the GUI. I wish to code this project completely without the aid of the GUI. so my connection string within Visual Studio C# is (pw/id hidden)...
    string xe = "Data Source=xe;User Id=xxxxx;Password=xxxxx;";
    OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(xe);
    My c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora file is this:
    # sqlnet.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)
    And my c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\TNSNames.ora file is this:
    tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = xe)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <machine name)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    Just for good measure, my tnsping xe shows:
    "Used paramter files:<br/>
    c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora<br/><br/>
    Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias<br/>
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = xe)))
    OK (0 msec)"
    So, how can I make that initial connection faster so I don't spend 15 years testing my application due to slow start-ups? :)
    Thank you.
    Kevin.

    I have formatted my hard drive since my first post. I was running window 64 bit with a higher version of the ODAC and that proved to crash my machine with faulty error messages about memory. I have reverted to a previous version of the ODAC tools and everything works very smooth now. Still the connection time is consistently 20 seconds or longer on the first attempt.
    Just a little more information.. I am currently taking a college course with 15 other students, as you can tell by the impersonal machine name, where programming using visual studio 2008, and Oracle 10g xe is expected. All of us are using a 64 bit environment and we all have difficulties cutting down the load time of making the first connection to Oracle. Some people are longer making the connection, but none are shorter.
    One other note. After the first connection is made, taking 20 or more seconds, and is closed, all subsequent openings of the connection are instantaneous, for all of us.
    If there is ANYTHING more I can get for you, please let me know. With my environment stable as it is, I will not need to format or change any information for the foreseeable future.
    Here is the information you requested
    1 The connection method I am using, I have chosen the manual connection for you, however the delay exists if the connection is made through the GUI as well.
    Historically, I am getting slow connection speeds through adding the connection through the GUI or by a manual connection. Here is how I am doing it manually. I have the connection being created in 20 seconds, which is the best I can get.

    I fought for weeks about the ODAC version 11.2.0.1 that you see in the previous post, and that would be a whole new thread. Suffice it to say I have a reliable environment to program in with this 10.2.0.1.0 version that I am running now, and the connection time has not changed, it is still minimum 20 seconds load time, sometimes up to 25.

  • How to setup management server in oracle 10g database

    guys,
    i've installed oracle 10g database into my machine. but i don know how to setup the management server (for scheduling owb10g process flows). unlike 9idb, we have an option emca to setup the management server. if anyone of u knows abt it, please help me. do i need to install the grid control just to have the scheduling mechanism? please advice.

    Well, it depends heavily on what operating system you're using, what mail server you're trying to install, your network topology, etc. Realistically, this is a question that is probably better asked in a forum for whatever mail server you're trying to install...

  • Auditing in oracle 10g database and oracle 10g application server

    Dear friends,
    We have oracle 10g application server and oracle 10g database server in place.My criteria is to audit users connected using oracle application user credentials to the database.
    Can you please tell me how can i do it.
    Thanks & regards,

    Its the database connection you want to track. The session audit will show where it came from.
    Auditing is turned using this command:
    alter system set audit_trail = DB scope=spfile;
    Note: The use of spfile will require a DB bounce before audit starts
    To audit Sessions:
    audit create session;
    Query by Audit Type:
    SELECT A.USERNAME,
    OS_USERNAME,
    A.TIMESTAMP,
    A.RETURNCODE,
    TERMINAL,
    USERHOST
    FROM DBA_AUDIT_SESSION A
    WHERE USERHOST = <replace with iAS servername> ;
    By User
    SELECT USERNAME,OBJ_NAME,ACTION_NAME , TIMESTAMP
    FROM DBA_AUDIT_TRAIL WHERE USERNAME = 'SCOTT';
    Check for users sharing database accounts
    select count(distinct(terminal)),username
    from dba_audit_session
    having count(distinct(terminal))>1
    group by username;
    Attempts to access the database at unusual hours
    SELECT username, terminal, action_name, returncode,
    TO_CHAR (TIMESTAMP, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'),
    TO_CHAR (logoff_time, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
    FROM dba_audit_session
    WHERE TO_DATE (TO_CHAR (TIMESTAMP, 'HH24:MI:SS'), 'HH24:MI:SS') <
    TO_DATE ('08:00:00', 'HH24:MI:SS')
    OR TO_DATE (TO_CHAR (TIMESTAMP, 'HH24:MI:SS'), 'HH24:MI:SS') >
    TO_DATE ('19:30:00', 'HH24:MI:SS');
    Attempts to access the database with non-existent users
    SELECT username, terminal, TO_CHAR (TIMESTAMP, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
    FROM dba_audit_session
    WHERE returncode <> 0
    AND NOT EXISTS (SELECT 'x'
    FROM dba_users
    WHERE dba_users.username = dba_audit_session.username);
    Other audits you might consider:
    audit grant any object privilege;
    audit alter user;
    audit create user;
    audit drop user;
    audit drop tablespace;
    audit grant any role;
    audit grant any privilege;
    audit alter system;
    audit alter session;
    audit delete on AUD$ by access;
    audit insert on AUD$ by access;
    audit update on AUD$ by access;
    audit delete table;
    audit create tablespace;
    audit alter database;
    audit create role;
    audit create table;
    audit alter any procedure;
    audit create view;
    audit drop any procedure;
    audit drop profile;
    audit alter profile;
    audit alter any table;
    audit create public database link;
    Best Regards

    Asif,
    IMO, the OP wanted to have steps given to him for the database creation , not the installation of the software.Not sure though since the wording chosen by him is not very clear.
    @OP,
    If you are looking for the database creation steps , the best would be to use DBCA! Other than that, you may want to look at the manual way of doing the same, given over here.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/create.htm#i1017640
    That said, if you were looking for the installation instructions, please look at the link given by Asif.

  • Use Oracle RAC Database 10g on SunOS nova 5.9

    Hello!
    We use Oracle RAC Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.5.0 - 64bit that consist of two nodes on SunOS nova 5.9 Generic_117171-17 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V440.
    Connection string as follows:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=ON)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host1)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=
    (PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host2)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=proddb))).
    Clustered Java application performs direct JDBC INSERT of record into database throw oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource.
    Table got the following fields:
    FIELD1 VARCHAR2(100 BYTE) NOT NULL,
    FIELD2 VARCHAR2(100 BYTE) NOT NULL,
    FIELD3 VARCHAR2(100 BYTE) NOT NULL,
    FIELD4 VARCHAR2(100 BYTE),
    FIELD5 VARCHAR2(100 BYTE),
    FIELD6 VARCHAR2(100 BYTE),
    FIELD7 INTEGER,
    FIELD8 BLOB,
    FIELD9 BLOB
    Approx in 60 milliseconds another application node performs SELECT of that record, which return void result. However next SELECT returns needed result.
    Defect is occurs with 50% probability.
    Whether problem is connected with defect in Oracle RAC/JDBC Driver?
    Thanks in advance!

    RAC propogates commit messages using a method which piggy-backs on the next available inter-instance message. I think it's called the Lampart Method, but anyways .... it means you have an uncontrollable delay between committed data in your two instances.
    Look at the init.ora parameter max_commit_propagation_delay, and consider setting it to 0. The parameter is briefly described in the Oracle Reference Guide.
    cheers,
