Continual library cache misses in trace file for spatial queries
Hi all,
Could somebody explain to me how the SQL parse engine works for spatial queries.
My understanding is that Oracle creates a hash value for SQL that is parsed with no errors. This hash value is then stored in the library cache ready to be matched against other incoming SQL statements. This provides one of the main reasons for using parametising SQL in languages such as PL/SQL, .Net etc and improves performance on query intensive applications.
However i have noticed that for spatial, any queries except for refreshes of identical ones already sent, the SQL engines re parses the query. This can take upto 0.2 seconds which is causing a performance bottle neck.
When looking at the full trace file of a single spatial query using SDO_FILTER with a query window the amount of additional internal queries that are performed is quiet a lot. Are these additional queries included in the total parse time?
I am wondering why for spatial queries the only way to get a hit in the library cache was to refresh an exact same SQL that had been previously sent?
Thanks
Daniel
Those additional internal queries are not included in the parse time,
if they are used in the execution time.

Missing LIBRFC32.DLL file for 64bit - x64 Windows Server
Dear Folks,
I have installed SAP ECC6 with BI7 system on Windows Server 2003 on x64. But I am not able to get data from SAP BW from Crystal Report 2008. I also did MDX PARSER connection test through t.code SM59. I got list of error messages.

I have been read other forums, most probably I am missing LIBRFC32.DLL file for x64 Windows Server. I couldnu2019t find any where this specific file for Windows Server x64 64bit version. It is available on Sap Market place, since I donu2019t have super user rights, I canu2019t download it.
If any one of you already have this file. Please share with me.
thanks
ObaidHello Ingo
Thanks to read my problem and for your reply, I have already read that SAP Note 1032461, I have the same problem as clearly defined in the note, and suggesting to put LIBRFC32.DLL file in <windows-dir>/system32 folder.
My SAP ECC and BI7 (Kernl 7.00) is installed on 64-bit, x64 Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. I need to download that file from RFC library available on SAP Market place. But, I don't have any super user rights.
If someone has similar setup and has already that file or could download for me. I need to get that file. I appreciated your kindly help.
thanks

root@ai2 #You seem to have RAC with multiple instances.
Anyhow, lower(d.value) --> icai, doesn't occur in any filename. This is because the instance name is in the trace filename, not the database name.
You are aware you can set the tracefile_identifier?
This will be simply appended to the original filename.

Generating Trace file for ODI Sessions
ODI Gurus
am new to ODI, for one of our integration project am using ODI for transforming data from Source to Target Instance.
Oracle Database is installed on both Source and Target instances. Is there a way to generate Database Trace files for ODI sessions triggered.
If yes can you provide the steps to enable/disable database trace for ODI sessions.
Regards
Uma ShankarHi Uma Shankar,
My assumptions:
1.) You want to selectively enable Oracle tracing when only the ODI scenarios are executed and not otherwise.
If that is the case then you will have to add some external steps comprising of OS commands and variables that will control if those steps are to be executed or not. These steps will invoke the OS commands to start Oracle tracing.
2.) You know the steps to create a package and know how to use Interfaces and other ODI utilities in the flow of the package.
3.) You know how to create and execute scenarios
Steps to Selectively enable tracing.
1.) Add a variable named V_START_TRACE to the package. This variable will be passed a value from scenario which will determine if you want to enable to trace or not. This variable type is EVALUATE and can have 2 values - TRUE or FALSE. You will have to check for the condition and depending on the condition you will take a path forward.
2.) Add 2 OS commands to the package - OS_START_TRACE and OS_END_TRACE
3.) Create 2 shell scripts (or bat files) - odi_start_trace.sh and odi_end_trace.sh with the following commands:
odi_start_trace.sh :-
sqlplus session - ALTER SYSTEM SET trace_enabled = TRUE;
odi_end_trace.sh :-
sqlplus session - ALTER SYSTEM SET trace_enabled = FALSE;
You need to invoke SQLPLUS sessions from the above shell scripts to enable/disable the oracle level tracing.
4.) Add the above shell scripts to the OS commands created in Step 2.
5.) Join the steps in the following order in the package :
V_START_TRACE (OK) ->OS_START_TRACE (OK) -> <<+Your Actual Integration Code+>>(OK) -> OS_END_TRACE
V_START_TRACE (KO) -> <<+Your Actual Integration Code+>>(OK)
The above KO variable statement doesnt start the trace if the evaluated value doesnt = TRUE. So this will let you do a selective trace.
6.) Create the scenario from the package and execute the scenario by passing it a value "TRUE" for variable V_START_TRACE.
Check the startscen.sh syntax, something like:
*>startscen.sh ... "GLOBAL.V_START_TRACE=TRUE"*
The above is a general solution for enabling trace for any RDBMS

Generate trace file for a certain transaction
Experts,
I am trying to generate a trace file for a certain transaction for a period of time.
I used tx st03 > transaction profile > double click on transaction and am able to get a list for the day. How do I set the date to generate for the month for example?
Thanks,
IqbalSince you post the question in security forum, not peformance or platform forum, I guess are looking for system auditing function.
then SM19/SM20 might be the choice, you can read through

Experts,

Thanks,
IqbalHi Iqbal,
In Tr. ST03 itself, you have three ranges. Day, Week and Month.
Just select the month. Expand it. Select which month you want.
Then check Transaction Profile. It should give you the details for the whole month.

User Library "Caches" missing/invisible?
This is a problem that seems to have happened since I installed SL.
I am scanning my CD booklets into my Macbook Pro, basically so I can read them more easily using the zoom facility. Using an app called CdPedia, they were stored as follows:
file:///Users/meng/Library/Caches/Metadata/CDpedia/eli-b-f.jpg
However, the Caches folder containing all my jpg's has vanished (although the Main Library Caches folder is still there). No problem, I thought, I'll just restore from Time Capsule.
But no - I go into TC (backups back to March 2009) and there's no User Caches in there either, no matter which backup I look at. (As a separate issue, spotlight doesn't seem to work in TC either so I am unable to search for any jpg's.)
So can anyone speculate as to whether I've lost all my pics, or are they still there somewhere but hidden from me? And why doesn't Spotlight work in TC?
I'd appreciate any thoughts or speculation. Thanks.Peter Wilson1 wrote:

Time Machine excludes most caches. It backs-up the <user>/Library/Caches folder to preserve the structure, but excludes the contents. -

After this, i checked in user dump directory. The trace files are generating... But this sql code is not appearing in the trace files...
Am i missing anything... Any help is appreciated.
ThanksThis may happen when the trace file is not completely closed.You may try again doing like this,
alter session set sql_trace=true;
select * from emp;
alter session set sql_trace=false;After this,disconnect and exit from your session as well. This should close the file completely and you should be able to see your command in it.

Library cash statistic in trace file
Hello!

My question - is this statistic cumulative or current ?
Please advise .
Thanks and regards,

How to use forms trace file for performance tuning
I am trying to use forms trace file in order to find cause of forms application performance problem.
I have read the document B14032-03 where is described how to turn on tracing and how to convert binary trace file to xml or html format. However these xml/html files are useless because they only contain series of forms events, without possibility for grouping or sorting. Actually, they are like to database raw trace file. I need some tool, like tkprof for database trace, that will process xml/html file and generate some more useful format.
Further, I have tried to load forms trace file into relational database tables in order to use SQL for performance problem investigation. I have followed procedure described in document A92175-01, but without success.
Is there any way to process xml/html file with grouping, orderering or summing event duration or way to load either binary, xml or html trace file into structured data in database.Al-Salamu Alikum user630033

Time drift detected. Please check VKTM trace file for more details
Running 11.2.0.2 on windows 64 bit virtualized..
VKTM, oracles virtual keeper of time is throwing a lot of warnings in the alert log. According to my research this is not a great concern (if someone could explain why that would be great as well) but you should be able to supress the trace file if you are at 11.2.0.2 by setting event = "10795 trace name context forever, level 2" in the the paramater file. I am using a spfile and did not use "alter system", i cretaed pfile and edited it , opened with it and created a new spfile then opened with that. I am however still receiving the trace files and the messages in the alert log, I am getting approximately 10 a day now so the alert log is filling rather quickly. Has anyone else encountered this or have any advice on how to solve this? Thanksuser12243721 wrote:

Since it's not a production machine it hasn't bothered me, but there are three other side effects
a) the "tim=" values in 10046 trace files look as if they have two parallel clocks running out of synch with each other - with the reported values jumping from one clock to the other every few milliseconds.
b) sometimes the database refuses to restart with "vktm didn't start in time" error messages
c) a couple of times a call to dbms_lock.sleep(0.01) has slept for a very long time - possibly because the timer started on the faster of the two clocks, and the system then jumped to the slower.
I never trust the machine for performance tests, so the timing anomalies aren't a big issue for me, so I haven't followed it up; but I'd guess it's a vmware issue with the way it has virtualised the multiple CPUs.

Missing Graphic Styles files for navigation in Muse Tutorial
I'm on the fourth video tutorial for Muse where graphic styles panel to the nav bar are applied. The files: top nav active and top nav normal over down are missing under the Graphics Panel. Also the files included under the States Panel to apply to the nav bar. Where can they be downloaded? The tutorial indicates they should be there. Otherwise the Tutorial videos have been working great so far.
Hello herdywick,
Just going off the screenshot you provided, I don't actually see your Graphic Styles panel open, I only see the Paragraph Styles panel. If this is the issue, you can open the Graphic Styles panel by going to Window >> Graphic Styles. Then you should be able to see the the missing styles as you can in the screenshot I included.
Also, be sure you opened the right file for this part (the Widgets.muse file.)
If this was not your issue, please let me know. Glad to hear that so far you have found the project helpful.
Thank you,

Results: C:\oracle\admin\prod\udump/prod_ora_388.trc (NOTE THE "/" IS CODED TO RETURN AS SUCH)
YET prod_ora_388.trc is NOT found at C:\oracle\admin\prod\udump OR anywhere on the C or associated D drives - any idea what is going on here, and if so how to correct it so the trc does show up?Did You enabled session tracing for that particular user?
If not, the of course You will find no trace file, just the possible name will be returned and path.
For first enable tracing, then look at trace directory for particular file.
And / is returned just because script is for unix. In your case you should replace it with \ as it is windows env.
and it's easier to identify trace files just adding some identifier to them with
alter session set tracefile_identifier ="some_name";
then in udump dierctory just search for this name. -
How to generate the trace files for remote db link session's?
User are complaining, the db link queries are performing slowness..
how to enable the sql trace session for db link's in remote database...
Is there any way to enable sqltrace for the dblink session ?
if not how to enable the sql trace for entire database level, rather than session based...An explain plan of the SQL being ran on the local database will review the SQL being passed to the remote db. You can then explain that SQL on the remote db.
I have had to tune a few distribued queries so more than likely the explain plan alone will be enough to allow you to tune the query to improve performance. If not then you can go to the trouble of trying to set up dual traces.
