I'm using indesign to create pdfs for use on ipads. I'd like to be able to have both audio and video files continue to play when a user moves the page. I understand the stop on pagee turn function for mp3s is not functioning  - they stop regardless. Any solutions?
many thanks
John

  • Printing Issue - Custom Media Sizes, InDesign CC/Mac Mavericks

    Hi all,
I've got a strange problem that I hope someone can provide some insight to.  Perhaps this is a bug, but I'd rather ensure that there isn't something here that I haven't understood.
I have a project that I periodically modify and re-print on custom size media (3.25" x 7.36").  I've used the same Id document and workflows since, probably, Id 2 or 3, updating each time to the latest versions.  The problem may be in the way Id CC interacts with the MacOS X printing system.  The printer in question is a Xerox 8550.
The project is a one page table printed on this particular card stock.  What's happening is that the printable area on the stock isn't being fully used - the top and bottom of the media aren't being printed - thus the top and bottom of the content is being cut off, in a way that wasn't an issue previously.
The printer control panel prompts for and accepts the media size correctly (I believe these printers have checks to ensure media fed matches the printable area; the Phaser engine doesn't like printing "off the paper").
Again, the same document has been used for many years, so I've tried the following steps to isolate and remediate the problem:
Document Setup: Custom Page Size, verify correct for media.
Print dialog: "Page Setup..." format for (custom media size defined for OS X), also verified to be correct for media.
Print dialog: "Setup", paper size Width and Height, correct; orientation correct, offset and gap 0p0, scale 100%.
    Print dialog: PPD correct.
Recreated document, re-entering sizes and verifying setup.  No change.
Created a test document, with same settings, and a scale extending outside of the printable area.  The specs for (and my experience with) the printer are that the printable area is 5mm from the edge of the paper.  The result of the test is that the content is cut off at 10-11mm from the edge instead.
Exported PDF from Id.  Printed using Preview, same OS X page setup configuration.  Printer prompts for correct media size.  Content in test file prints as expected, to 5mm from media edge.
Printed test document from Acrobat XI, using "Actual Size", "Choose paper source by PDF page size", and "Use custom paper size when needed".  Printer prompts for correct media size, content prints as expected, again, to 5mm from media edge.
So, in brief, exported PDF prints properly (and this is a workaround), but it's a pain that Id has this issue.  All software involved is up to date.  I haven't tried to dig into the PPD, as PostScript isn't one of my areas of strength, but I'm reasonably sure it's correct.  I've also tried a similar test using Letter-size paper, and that also prints to 5mm.
I'd love to get some feedback on this.  Many thanks.

For what its worth, I've been trouble shooting this issue with Adobe / Xerox / Apple for some time now. Here are my findings so far:
--------------------------------------------------Adobe's final response after a very long help ticket--------------------------------------------------------
This Email is in regards to the case related to the adobe application and Printing issue ,
As checked we were able to see that application  is able to create the document with correct size , when checked within Adobe Pdf properties the size was showing as per document specification and when we tried to print the same , the document was showing the same values carried forwarder to the printer and in the preview it was showing the same specific setting of the document size in the printer previewer
It was during the printing process the same value are not being calculated correctly as per our interaction ,  you were able to use the same in the previous version of Mac  10.8. 5 , please check if there is any update available for the 10.9 version of mac and if it would work on the same ,we would request you to contact your printer help support for the same we are leaving the case open and would request you to call us back if there is any further issue  on  800 833 66 87

--------------------------------------------------Xerox's response, after an escalated level 2 ticket--------------------------------------------------------
Here the Decline from 3rd Level Engineering.
    2nd Level Reference #: 19458297
    Customer Name: VDB REAL ESTATE
    Product Model: Phaser 7800
Problem Summary: Scale is incorrect when printing PDFs on custom size paper in OS X 10.9
    Decline Reason: App/3rd party Issue
Note: I tested using the included process steps:
    STEPS TO REPRODUCE-
    I tested using a PDF that was 6" x 8.5".
In Acrobat or Adobe Reader, choose File > Print, go to Page Setup and create a custom page size of 8" x 9.5".
In the Acrobat dialog, set the size to "Actual size".
Print this to the device, note that the image is about 7" x 10".
Interestingly, in the Acrobat dialog, if "Choose paper source by PDF page size" is selected, the previewed page size is not that of the document, but instead shows 10.13" x 7.17".  This size will change if different printers are selected.
Scaling is not an issue when printing to standard page sizes.
I was able to recreate the issue on a Mac running OS 10.9.1 using the Xerox 7800 print driver. I then tested on Mac OS 10.9.1 using a generic Postscript driver and also recreated the issue.  This indicated that this is not a Xerox driver issue.  I then tested on a Mac OS 10.8.5 using the same Xerox 7800 driver version and it worked as expected without scaling the image.
Mac OS 10.8.5 uses CUPS version 1.6.2 for printing where 10.9.1 uses CUPS version 1.7.  I believe this is a CUPS issue and you will need to work with Apple to resolve it.
You may appeal this decision by replying to this email and providing appeal details.

While using 10.92 with Xerox Phaser 7800DN (2.94.1 PPD - Installed via Software Update), PDF at a custom page size was sent to spool folder via Preview was correctly sized, however the document produced by Adobe Reader appears to be icorrect. When using Preview the PDF printed to a custom page size at 100% scale comes out the proper size.

  • Toshiba 32W1433DG and continues media play

    Hi,
Recently bought this little led tv. I watch a lot of things from the USB but I can't get it to continuesly play on its own. When a file ends it won't automatically play the next one. All it can do is play the same over and over again or just play a file and go back to the menu. Is there a trick to this?
    Thank you

  • Re: Is InDesign CS5 Compatible With Latest Apple OS?

I am currently licensed to use my copy of InDesign CS5 on my iMac and my MacBook. I'm thinking about replacing my MacBook with a new laptop from Apple to take advantage of our state's tax holiday this coming weekend. I would, of course, want to migrate InDesign from my old laptop to my new one. My current MacBook is over three years old and runs on OS 10.6.8. My question is, if I buy a new Apple laptop with the very latest operating software, would InDesign CS5 still work with such an advanced OS? Is there any danger of me losing access to the files I've already created? Would I have to upgrade InDesign to CS6? Does Adobe even offer upgrades now that they have introduced the Creative Cloud? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Bob. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. It was very helpful.
Actually, if I purchase a new laptop, I was planning on installing InDesign using the original media. I just meant that, since I am only licensed to use InDesign on two devices at a time, I would need to discontinue its use on my old laptop in order to be able to use it on my new one. (I plan on continuing on using InDesign on my desktop for the time being.) But this leads me to another question: Wouid I have to discontinue InDesign on my old laptop BEFORE installing it on my new laptop? If so, what would I do if it turns out that InDesign CS5 doesn't work on the latest Mac OS? I could switch to a Creative Cloud subscription as you suggest -- but I was hoping not to have to spend any more money. If I did have to switch to the Cloud, would I still be able to access and work on the files I created in CS5?
Thanks again for all your help.

  • InDesign cs6 crashes when exporting objects with drop shadows to interactive PDF

I am using the trial version of InDesign CS6 on a mac OSX 10.7.4  I need to export my document as an interactive PDF. I have found that the export works fine so long as none of the objects within my document have a drop shadow. However, if I add a drop shadow to any object (text, images, or video) InDesign will crash when I try to export. I am adding the drop shadow by selecting the object and then choosing Object > Effects > Drop Shadow. Is there another method I should be using to add the shadow if I want to export to an Interactive PDF?

Hi Peter, thanks for the response. Yes, I have tried creating a new blank project and adding one text object with a drop shadow and then exporting to Interactive PDF, and I experienced  the same result. I tried replacing my preferences as you suggested and found that it did not have any affect.
I continued developing my InDesign document without using any drop shadows and began to experience the same type of crashing under two more circumstances. 1. When relinking assets in my Links panel. 2. When exporting to interactive PDF with interactive objects that are being clipped (I get a warning telling me I have clipped objects before I export; when I click export I experience the same crash.) I have tried exporting the same file to a print (non-interactive) PDF and experienced no crashing.
I thought I should mention that I am using a retina display mac book pro with 16GB RAM. Could my graphics cards or the configureation of my machine be causing my issue?
    Thanks so much,

  • Continue Task when app goes in Background

    Hello,
I want to create a simple app for a Windows 8.1 Phone that vibrates each X seconds. But I need it also when the Display is off and the App switches in the background. So is it possible to continue a Task when the App goes in Background? At the moment the
task will pause and continue when the App comes back to the foreground. I read something about Background tasks. But thats not what I need, because there is no defined trigger I can use. There are only issues with continue media playing that I can find, but
    they seems to be different.
    Best regards

    Hi ViktorBecker,
I think there is no such feature for your requirement. As you have seen, background task was triggered by system event, but there is no event which correspond to this requirement. Maybe you can post it on UserVoice.

  • Matching InDesign and Photoshop Pixel Dimensions

I'm attempting to use InDesign to determine pixel sizes of a baseline grid and typography that will eventually be used on a webpage. Since Photoshop doesn't have a baseline grid or a baseline grid snapping feature, I thought I might be able to make something work in InDesign.
Unfortunately I'm running into a problem, where pixel dimensions in InDesign don't seem to match up with pixel sizes in Photoshop. For example, with documents at 100% view in both Photoshop and InDesign, a 100px square appears larger on screen in InDesign than in Photoshop. It's as if InDesign is rendering the view at a different resolution than Photoshop.
Above you can see a square made at 42 pixels in InDesign viewed at 100% zoom (though InDesign insists on displaying the size as points) with the same square screen-captured and opened in Photoshop. The square is actually measured at 54 pixels.
How can I get InDesign to display the same pixel sizes as Photoshop?

True enough on both counts! Relative resolution and scaling is definitely helpful for print design (I learned early on what scale to view in order to preview onscreen at what would be actual physical size--the reverse of double-clicking the zoom tool now, I guess.)
But I see no reason why we can't have it both ways. Isn't that the whole point of "web" or "Digital Publishing" intent in document setup? Why not have Indesign switch to 1-1px scale when you create a document set to web intent? Wouldn't be any different, functionally, than what the script does, it would just revert to physical scale when I open a print document. Seems like it should be obvious that the preview scale when creating a web site should be 1 pixel is 1 pixel--my browser isn't going to display my website at 123.7% scale. Or that if you chose the "iPad" digital pub template, the display scale should be twice that of a (theoretical) Retina display iPad. It's functionally just a different number, right? That is, if I were writing a script, I could theoreticall specify any resolution I wanted to get the desired display scale.
Ok, so now I'm turning this into feature request, I know, and the question has been thoroughly answered. But it needn't be that complicated--all we really need is a place to CHOOSE what mode to opperate in, right? If Adobe really prefers not to open the output-intent-view-scale can o' worms, then why not leave an Acrobat-style resolution preference where I can type in a number? The obvious advantage of that over the script solution is that it's easy to set or reset.
Aside: while we're on the topic of having it both ways in regards to using Indesign for more than print work... Why not include the option to set the document color profile (most likely to sRGB) when I choose "web" intent in a new document dialog? Oh! And give me actual RGB black and white color swatches in "web" documents.
I'm just excited about the idea of Adobe taking a few more steps in the direction they've started with the whole document intent feature set in Indesign. A more inviting web design environment wouldn't in any way keep me from continuing to use Indesign for print work (all day every day). What is there to lose? Not like they're developing Fireworks anymore, and Indesign already makes more sense for web than Illustrator. ... I'm sure it's a HUGE internal debate at Adobe. Probably some Fireworks replacement app in the works that I don't know about.

  • Need to keep CS6 CC InDesign version

I need to keep the CC CS6 InDesign Version. How do I do this?

I suggest you explain your question in a little more detail.  There are several ways your short question could be interpreted.  Some examples:
    A. You are a current CC subscriber and plan to continue being one but you want to know if you can "freeze" your InDesign version for some period of time (in other words, not automatically accept version changes but continue to pay for access to the software).
    B. You are a current CC subscriber to the whole CC bundle and you would like to start paying ONLY for InDesign.
    C. You are a current CC subscriber to some CC plan that includes InDesign but you don't want to pay for CC anymore.  You want to know if you can continue to use InDesign without continuing to pay.
    D. English is not your primary language and you just want to know how to find the version number of the InDesign you are using.

  • InDesign 9.2 install on Mac - how?

On a Mac, OS 10.8.5, I have Creative Cloud installed with InDesign 9.0  I want to install 9.2.  CC continues to tell me that my Apps are up-to-date.  I've gone through the uninstall/reinstall twice but I continue to have InDesign 9.0 after the reinstalls.  Why?  How can I successfully update to 9.2?

Please navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/AdobeUpdaterAdminprefs.dat and rename it. Launch InDesign, go to help and check for updates and let us know whether it worked.

  • Comparsion of Adobe InDesign CC and Adobe InDesign CS6

Is Adobe InDesign CC worth paying the yearly subscription cost or should I continue with Adobe InDesign CS6 which has a perpetual license?

Let's put it this way: if you cannot spend the money for any reason, it's better to have something then nothing. CS6 is running well, but, of course, you're missing the latest developments. As long as you stay in the "print" area, I don't think it's absolutely necessary to change. Keep in mind though, that people with CC cannot send you 'native" file (idml is still possible). If you're into 'epub-ing", then I would consider a subscription for CC 2014.

  • I am having problems reinstalling Acrobat 7

Hi, I'm an owner of ancient G5 Mac and CS2 Premium, which I had to reinstall this week. This means also GoLive2 and Acrobat7 in the package. The links you provide are apparently CS2 Standard. I can download GoLive2 separately, but I can't see ANY possibility to get a Macintosh version of Acrobat Pro 7. I don't care much about GoLive, but Acrobat is a crucial tool for me. Could you please add a new link or give me a precise instruction if I miss something? Thanks a lot.

Well, your hint misses the point, because I have no problem with Photoshop error massages themselves but with the special incompatibility that occurs when Photoshop and Acrobat are installed as parts of two different Creative Suite copies (in this case one is Standard, and the other is Premium).
But I found a solution. I deleted the copy of Photoshop that came with the suite and instead downloaded and installed a standalone version.
So to complete a Premium set:
    - Acrobat Pro comes from the original media
    - Illustrator, InDesign (also Bridge and VersionCue if you use them) come from linked CS Standard images.
    - Photoshop comes from linked standalone image.
    - GoLive comes from linked standalone image.
Kind of patchwork but tried and true.
BTW, there's one more issue related to those versions with disabled activation - AutoUpdater doesn't work for them either. Fortunately, the complete update history with corresponding download links is still there on adobe.com so no problem to install all the updates manually.

  • Extension Building with multiple CS versions in mind

    Good Morning.
We are currently working on several InDesign projects which must support and continue to support InDesign CS5, CS 5.5, CS6 and CC.  We are currently using the Extension Builder Flex based UI's with supporting ExtendScript libraries.
We are compatible with the current versions of CC; but I wonder how long we will be so? Will we need to support 2 UI frameworks in the future or will CC continue to support the Flex based versions of Extension Builder?
    Thanks,
    pjb

As you might discovered already Adobe thought its the best way to piss off all existing developers and drop the support for flash based extensions as soon as possible. They say at some point mid 2014 most applications wont support extensions built with flash anymore. Photoshop will be the first one, Yehaaa!

  • Opening older files with CS6

    On a Windows platform.
I recently installed CS6 and everything appeared to be working fine.
I was able to open older CS5.5 docs without any issues. I decided to delete the entire CS5.5 Suite
and now I find whenever I go to open any of these old CS5.5 InDesign docs the small icon beside the
file name appears as a "blank page" and simply clicking on it will not allow it to open in InDesign CS6.
When I right click the file name I would expect to see the usual options in the Open With dialog box to include InDesign CS6
but the only program to appear is AI. I did the "browse" routine in within this Open With dialog box, pointed to the actual InDesign
program in my system but it doesn't appear in the dialog box.
I've even tried going into System>Default Programs setting and associating the suffix with CS6 InDesign and
the same thing happens, i.e.,  I browse to locate the program in my system and hit open it doesn't appear in the Default Programs dialog box.
I have to launch CS6, point to the file and then it will open.
When I save over the open doc it does not update the icon and the files as well so I have to continue to launch InDesign, point to the file and open it.
No problem with associating Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, etc. with their usual file types which are part of the Suite.
Any thoughts as to what I can do to solve this irritation?

Seems like there are nasty left-overs from CS5.5 in the registry. Adobe has that Cleaner Tool, but it is intended to solve installation problems only. It might help, but you also might be forced to install CS6 again.
Let's try registry. Assuming you're speaking of INDD files, do following:
open registry editor (Start menu->Execute->regedit) and open tree folder HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and scroll down to ".indd" key.
check the value Standard for being "Indesign.Document"
scoll further down to "Indesign.Document" and open subkey Shell->Open->Command. The value Standard should show the path to your current ID CS6 exe and have "%1" as argument.
open subkey Icons->Current version and check value Standard to be "8.0". If not edit it to "8.0" (without quotation marks of course)
Go to folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->Classes and perform steps 1-4 here as well.
Go to folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Classes and check if there exists subkey ".indd" and if so, also repeat steps 1-4 here.

  • Conceptual Question-Standby Database

    Hi all,
I was just going through this documentation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/log_apply.htm
    In the beginning it says
"Log apply services automatically apply redo to standby databases to maintain synchronization with the primary database and allow transactionally consistent access to the data"
I want to know How does process takes redo log and apply to datafile? What is basically happening inside?
    Cheers,
    Neerav

    Dear Neerav999,
    If i would know your Oracle database version, i could give you a more detailed explanation but i will give it anyway;
There are options that you can use for the Oracle Data Guard. Data Guard is used for replicating the primary database to the standby database via the archivelogs and/or with the redologs. You may not have a standby redolog for maximized performance protection level and it is not mandatory however you need to have standby redos for maximized availiability and protection, protection levels of the Oracle database.
    Starting from 11g, you can able to cancel the recovery process on standby site and open the standby database read only than (magic goes here) you can start the media recovery! The command list as follow for 11g;
ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL --> This command will cancel the MRP0 process and will stop the continuous media recovery
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN READ ONLY
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE [USING CURRENT LOG FILE] DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;
--> Above command will start the media recovery process ON THE READ ONLY DATABASE!You can give it a try that one by creating a dummy table on primary and wait for one or two log switches and check back the standby database. You are going to see the table has been also created there.
So answer to your eternal question! :)
    MRP process is there to fetch and request the archivelogs from the primary site. This process can be started with the below command;
ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;You may have a simple test of cource. Cancel the MRP process and switch some logfiles on primary site. Than rerun above command to restart the MRP process and check v$dataguard_status fixed view. You will see that MRP is going to try to fetch the missing archivelog files and will try to close down the gap between the primary and the standby database. Here let me show you another 11g feature of Data Guard.
    On 11g you can compress the redologs! What do you need to compress it? There is maybe the most threatning problem of the Data Guard is the connection itself. It should be fast and reliable. Otherwise the MRP process will fall behind and if you are running on maximum performance mode, it will also decrease the performance of the primary database and will hardly close the gap. You 11g Data Guard does is it compresses the log files in the fetching period. If its done with fetching and closed the gap than the normal transmission without the compression will continue to operate. Here is an example of redo compression parameter;
    alter system set log_archive_dest_n = 'service= ORCLSTBY
    LGWR ASYNC valid_for=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE)
db_unique_name=ORCLSTBY compression=enable'I have checked the link that you have given and its Oracle 10g but i have just written it to understand some real factors between the 10g Data Guard and the 11g Data Guard. There are also other changes but if you can go to the 11g New Features site you will see Arup Nanda's posts about it.
    If you are to use the standby redologs and it is called "Real Time Apply" and you can see it on v$dataguard_status fixed view. Here is the information from the online documentation;
6.2.1 Using Real-Time Apply to Apply Redo Data Immediately
If the real-time apply feature is enabled, log apply services can apply redo data as it is received, without waiting for the current standby redo log file to be archived. This results in faster switchover and failover times because the standby redo log files have been applied already to the standby database by the time the failover or switchover begins.
Use the ALTER DATABASE statement to enable the real-time apply feature, as follows:
*For physical standby databases, issue the ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE USING CURRENT LOGFILE statement.
*For logical standby databases, issue the ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY IMMEDIATE statement.
    Standby redo log files are required to use real-time apply.Here is a fixed view that you may see the processes;
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/dynviews_1169.htm#REFRN30144
PROCESS      VARCHAR2(9)      Type of process whose information is being reported:
        *RFS - Remote file server
*MRP0 - Detached recovery server process
        *MR(fg) - Foreground recovery session
        *ARCH - Archiver process

        *LGWR
        *RFS(FAL)
