Control 6527 Card from TestSTAND

Hi Guys,
I want to control my 6527 Digital I/O card from TestSTAND application.
What is best way to do this? Can I use 'IVI Switch' or do I have to Create a LabVIEW VI for 6527 card and then call this VI from my TestSTAND sequence file?
If i can use IVI Switch how do i configure to see 6527 Device and select I/O lines required.

This card is not a switch. You will have to write a code module in LabVIEW, CVI, or another programming language to use it in TestStand.

XY Graph Won't save to JPEG when Black and White...and run from TestStand.

I am creating an XY graph and manipulating the colors of the plots, background, etc. I am saving this graph to JPEG using the Write JPEG File vi and after it is saved I import it inot a test report. This works fine in color, but when I create a B&W plot, it won't save to JPEG. Let me clarify: It won't save to JPEG when I run the VI from TestStand. It does save to JPEG when I run the VI as a stand alone application in LabVIEW.
Problem:
Run VI from LabVIEW ~ Saves the JPEG in both Color and B&W.
Run VI from TestStand ~ Saves the JPEG in Color, but does not save the JPEG in B&W.
Here is how I am making all the plots and background B&W in my code:
Change all Active Plots to Black using property node.
Change all Active Cursors to Black using property node.
Change the Plot BG colors (major/minor grids, etc) to lighter colors using property node.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

A few questions: What version of LV are you using? How are you getting the control image that you are sending to the JPG? Third what exactly happens when you try to save the B/W image under TestStand? Error?

Line connection between PCI-6527 card and instrument

Sorry for my foolish. My poor electronic knowledge prevent me from fully understanding what you explained in your last reply and need more help.
In fact, we plan to control two instrument switchs, one is for the Magnetic_Suspension_Control(MSC) , another is for control the Weight-changing-Device(WCD).
The instrument manufacturer provide a cable for the MSC and WCD. The cable looks as follows: there is one connection to the computer(25-pin subD-plug) of which two cables lead away, one to the MSC(6-pin Lemosa)and the other to the WCD(15-pin subD-plug).
The interface of the MSC is internally realized by using only two simple optocouples(OC). Their input-pins are connected directly to the 25-pin SubD-plug of
cable as follwing:
25-pol.SubD; meaning
Pin 9 anode of OC1-LED
Pin 7 anode of OC2-LED
Pin 23 cathode of OC-LED
Pin 18 cathode of OC-LED
Because of the optocouplers draw some current from the NI-card, the manufacturer let me make sure that the NI-card can source circa 7mA(better 10mA) on each pin.
The interface of the WCD consists of three simple TTL-level inputs, which are also directly connected to the 25-pin SubD-plug of our cable as following:
25-pol.SubD; meaning
Pin 4 TTL-Input (remote) (0-1V/3.5-5V)
Pin 3 TTL-Input (weight 1) (0-1V/3.5-5V)
Pin 2 TTL-Input (weight 2)(0-1V/3.5-5V)
Pin 5 common ground
The current drawn by the TTL-inputs is not worth mentioning.
By controling the logic state of these above pin states through labview, I then can control the instrument switch.
Based on above information, how should I choose right resistor for achieving the suitable v
oltage and current on each pin and How should I connect line between PCI-6527 card and 25-pin sub-D plug(I plan to use port 3 of PCI-6527 card).

My best recommendation is that you find someone who can give you a better and more direct advise in electronic circuiting. We don't have in our hands the manual of your instrument in order to clarify what it needs and where, although you gave some pin numbers we cannot take the risk of advising something that we don't have the absolute knowledge of. We can give you all the details you want about our card and what does it gives, but you have to decide how are you going to connect it to your instrument. If you recall your email about the manual, in fig. 3-6 page 3-12 you can see a picture of how to connect a TTL driven device, in the last email we gave you an option of how to connect the resistor and where, please read it again, basically I am going to repeat the same, we feel sorry about not been able to give you more help, but is opt to you to find help in electronic theory. Remember in my last email that I told you the 3 cases in which your instrument may need either voltage, current or both, and I told you how RL will change and what new resistors you may need to connect. Review that and make tests with your switch, your question about how to choose the right resistor is answered in the previous email and how to connect lines between the board and the cable of your instrument you have both pin outs... match them... the person who has in his hands the manual and the instrument is the best person to choose how to interfase both appliances... we are sorry Zhou but if we advise you about pin connections of your device with our blindness we have of your device we may make a mistake, we told you about our pins and how to choose resistors.

I want to do this because when I imported from my old hard drive there was an error message stating that 12 photos were not imported as the programm did not recognise the format even though they were jpegs like the other photos in that particular album. The dates of the photo folders are wrong I have multiple copies of photos and every time I start iPhoto I get the following message 12 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that were not imported would you like to import them No or Yes
if you press Yes the same message comes back again and if you press Yes again the program flicks to last import for 2 seconds and then opens events.
if you press No the message The photos have been placed in the folder/user/judith/pictures/iphoto Library recovered photos then if you press OK the original message 12 photos have been found.............
if you press No at this point the message The photos have been placed in the folder/user /judith/pictures/iphoto Library recovered photos_11 the end number goes up by 1 every time you go through this process

Did you import an iPhoto Library from the old Hard Drive? Do you still have that old Library?
The way to clear out a Library is to Export the photos - Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
For the annoying start-up message:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

Does NI DAQmx driver support PCI 6527 Card

In my application i am using PCI 6527 Isolated DIO Card. In the examples from LabVIEW 7.0, i refered the following VIs
1. Write Dig Chan.vi
2. Write Dig Port.vi
using DAQ 7 Driver.
There it gives a list of devices that can run these examples. The list does not contains PCI 6527.
Can I use DAQmx Example VIs with PCI 6527 Card?
Please suggest me what driver to use with 6527 Card (Traditional DAQ or DAQmx).

I'm using NI DAQmx 9.7 in a machine hosting a Windows 7, but always when I tried to run the application I got this error.:
CAN'T LOCATE THE DRIVER ERROR 10240
Does you have any idea why could I'm facing this problem ? Previously I was using the original driver NI DAQ 7.4.4 (Legacy) in a machine hosting a Windows XP.
Other point perhaps here isn't the best place to start this new post, but I couldn't find how to post a new topic on the site.. My apologies, i'm waiting for any solution or advice

Pass object reference from TestStand to C#

Hi,
I have created a GUI in .NET which i invoke in TestStand (through a custom step type). User can enter a object reference teststand variable in the UI input expression box. So i need to get the object value in that variable and use it to call some .net functions. To get the values from expression box of UI and put in TestStand step variable i use:
         PropertyObject.SetValInterface("Step.TestStationObj", 0, tsexprTestStationObj.DisplayText.Trim()); To check the value in the step variable if i do:
         MessageBox.Show("TestStation obj after setting:",PropertyObject.GetValInterface("Step.TestStationObj",0).ToString());
But i do not get any value. Guess it is null. Is this a correct way? My intension is to get the value corresponding to a teststand object reference and pass it to C#. The C# UI control is of type NationalInstruments.TestStand.Interop.UI.Ax.AxExpressionEdit

Abort execution of VI from TestSTand

I am trying to find an easy way to abort or terminate a called VI from TestStand. I am working on a system that controls machines and if something goes wrong I want a stop button that stops the VI immediately and runs a VI thats sends a stop signal to the machine.
Event seems like it could work and I tried using GetTerminationStatus but I cant get it to trigger an event. I have only tried using ValueChange on both GetTerminationStatus and Sequence Context In.
Is there a way to get a message popup to pop up and having VI:s running in the background? When the VI:s are done the message closes. If I push the button I want it to set a variable that triggers an event.

Here's a quick example of how to use the GetTerminationStatus VI.
Unfortunatlly you can't generate an event in LabVIEW directly you will have to poll the TerminationStatus.
This will detect someone pressing the Terminate button in the SequenceEditor or TestStand User Interface.
I've also setup the Terminate Button in the VI to trigger a Termination in TestStand.
Somethings to keep in mind.
The difference between Abort and Terminate, is that Terminate will still run the Cleanup Group of any sequences.
This is very useful to ensure everything shuts down correctly when something goes wrong.

User event from TestStand to Labview

We have a large application written in Labview, user interface separated from the actual
core using User Events. Now we consider to automate some repeated actions with slightly
different parameters. Is the TestStand sutable option for thi case? Can it send the "User event" to
Labview?

Hi mishklyar,
tbob makes a good point, and I will try to elaborate a little bit. TestStand is test executive software. It works by executing a set of predefined steps in sequence. These steps can be LabVIEW code, C code, etc. You can pass parameters into the LabVIEW code that you call, but you cannot directly send "user events" the same way that user events are created in LabVIEW by interacting with front panel controls. The traditional design with TestStand is to create a LabVIEW code module that does a particular thing, and have other modules (VIs) that do other things. Then, call each module from TestStand as needed. As the name implies, TestStand is often used for testing products, but could be used for other purposes as well. If your application could be modified to fit this model, then TestStand could probably be used. However, you would probably want to architect your LabVIEW application differently than it is right now.

Resistor choose in PCI-6527 card

I think I need more help for PCI-6527 card.
Problem 1: In PCI-6527 user manual,page 3-11, last paragraph about the source current. The instrument require digital I/O card can source current 7mA (better10mA) on each pin for activating switch. The switch is TTL(0-1V/3.5-5V)(Which is all information the instrument provided). If I choose the resistor 5K which is recommended in the manual, the source current will be very small(0.3mA) and can not achieved the current for activating switch(10mA). Is my understanding correct or not? If not, how should I choose right resistor value for my current application?
Problem 2 : for current application, I can use the 5V source board since total current on all channels below 1A. Also I can use gro
und line of board to connect to DIG- pin for reference line.Is it right?
Problem 3: Three pins of instrument cable(25 pin sub-D cable) are required to connect to ground line, could I connect these three pins directly to ground line on board or I have to use additional ground lines.

Answer 1: The formulas for choosing your resistor are there in page 3-11 and 3-12. Your instrument switch is going to be connected to VOUT (DIG+ and DIG-), you have to check your instrument to see if it requires only the 10 mA current for activating or if it requires 5V or if it requires both. In case it requires only 10mA if you perform the formula V=RI, you are going to find that you need a total resistance of 500 ohms, your board already has a 35ohm resistance so you need to connect a 465 ohm resistance in serial but not as RL, in that case RL is just jumper wire (0 ohm) your 465 resistance is in serial connection with the 35R and all of them make VOUT. Just take a note that your switch may be acting as a relay and it may have a coil on it which adds mo
re resistance, so measure the resistance also of your switch and the sum of 35R + your switch coil resistance + your configurable resistance = 500 ohms, this is in case you need 5V and 10mA in the input of your switch. Check this out because switches may need only to be applied a certain current or a certain voltage but not usually both.
Answer 2: If you are using the 5V source of the board for DIG+ you have to use the ground reference of the board also for DIG-... if you are using an external 5V source, then you need DIG- to connect to the external ground.
Answer 3: We don't know what are this three pins for. Your switch must have a + and - inputs, in which you directly connect DIG+ and DIG-, are these GND pins this - inputs ?... if so then yes. If not, then you should what are this GND pins for in your instrument, if they have other functionality most probably you don't have to connect to the board ground, because you are not getting any source from the board, you are only act
ivating the switches, but I cannot guarantee this because I don't know your instrument.

I want to call the DMM- SFP from Teststand using IVI

Hi I have a Teststand 3.0 system with a NI-PXI 4070, and I want to call the DMM-SFP from Teststand using the IVI driver architecture. Unfortunatley I cannot figure out how to link the DMM-SFP to the Logical name.

If you are using the TestStand IVI step types, after you have added the logical name in MAX, you can insert an IVI DMM step type. Then right-click on the step and choose "Edit IVI Dmm". You should be able to choose from the Logical Name Ring Control the logical name you created in MAX.
If you haven't added the logical name into MAX, depending on what version of MAX you have, you can refer to Using Measurement & Automation Explorer 2.x to Configure Your IVI System or look in the IVI help that comes built into MAX 3.0.

My nvidia control panel dissapeared from mac pro

My nvidia control panel dissapeared from early 2008 mac pro running 10.6.7 osx snow leopard with a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT graphics card.I have tried reinstalling the driver from the nvidia website,time machine,and software updates.Nothing seems to bring it back. Solutions anyone?

Yes the GT120 will work with the DVI port but the mini-displayport will not function on the card so you'll be limited to using one display. The handy thing with adding a GT120 to a 2008 Xserve is you can use it for compressor if you want to, to render videos.

Automating Xilinx JTAG Programmer from TestStand

Hai,
I am using TestStand versions 1.0.2 and 3.0 to test some of the processor driven electronic panels. I am trying to automate the programming of those processors on ATE with TestStand. I was able to load the Xilinx JTAG programmer(which is required) by calling .EXE file. Now I am struggling to create a set of ket board commands to start programming. how can I do this? Is the ActiceX control solution for this? can any onehelp with this please. I use Labwindows CVI with teststand.

Instead of the ActiveX, I tried to use the "FakeKeystroke" CVI built-in library function to automate the process.I got it working during interactive execution of function panel i.e by passing key codes for & , I got the File pull down menu of CVI function panel. But when I call the function from Teststand, it didn't worked.Can you able help me with this problem please. Is it the the proper way to use this function.

well actually I have a problem, I have a Visa card and as I recieved a gift card from my friend from USA, aftrer redeeming the card and spend it through app strore, now, I have 0.98$ and I can't spend for other apps since there is not any app which is exactly 0.98$ . So I've tried several times to get back to my visa card to go to appstore and buy my favorate apps, but the matter is that my visa is from Canada and I recieved a notice in which untill I didn't spenc the 0.98$, I'm not able to change my location and this really is a big problem for me.
