Control Apple TV over the imac?

Is there any chance to control apple tv over the Mac (wifi)? I have my apple tv on on a beamer and I don't like to start the beamer all time if I like to hear music without streaming it.

You can't control an ATV directly from your computer, but you can set the audio output of iTunes to play through the ATV. If you have an iPhone or an iPod touch, you can use the Remote app on that to control an ATV, however.

Hey all thanks for your replies. I have figured it out using Max/MSP to send Applescript UI messages to the terminal. Each computer has a patch on it and plays after the other one has made a move. It is quite fun to program as it is using the chess app as an algorithm... anyhow i can't use screen sharing because i want the computers to talk to each other as if they were playing a game of chess against against one another by speaking the moves to each other.
As if they were two computers at leisure playing chess in a park!

What remote controls will work with the iMac 27inch.

Okay I hung the new iMac on the wall in my kitchen. Used the apple adapter I have a little apple remote control that works the dvd player fine. Of course the wireless keyboard and the wireless mouse work fine. I have an elgato tuner because this iMac is my dvr/tv does anyone have a remote that will work the iMac as a dvd and work the elgato hybrid tuner. Just trying to make this simple. Thanks

iTunes itself, that is it's built-in remote speaker function, will work only with an Airport Express. There may be other wireless speakers that have their own drivers or transmitter; someone else here may be able to make a recommendation.

Which hard drive brands does Apple use in the iMac G5?

I am wanting to replace the Western Digital hd that came in my iMac G5. I know that some iMacs have Maxtor hds built in and yet others Hitachi drives.
I was wondering whether anoyone has a Seagate drive...I usually use Seagates, however I was told they are running really hot. Not what you need in an iMac G5.
My WDC drive usually runs at 52.5C...how hot is yours running?

Hi Rod,
Since Coriolis have open tickets with both Apple and WDC, there is hope that, at one point, Apple will honour the problem and exchange the drive(s).
I will likely not buy a new drive in the meantime since I learnt that the SATA drives are totally different from the ATA drives...in other words, the WD drive would end up in a drawer since it is incompatible with the hd enclosures [Oxford 911 chips] I have.
In summary, my panic since November [or since Drive 10 in 2001] was justified...the time wasted was incredible. Without DiskWarrior, I would have re-loaded the operating system several times. Great piece of software. Now I am confident that the OS X update combo will resolve the current systems problem. If not, I simply re-install. Just have to defrag the WD drive using the inferior DriveGenius.

I am doing a project using Java & C on linux to control a home appliance attached to my system.. it needs a little cheap electronic ckts ..and i have developed a small gui to control it ovwer the network. it works fine till there.. now i want to extend its functionality over the internet. The issues are
-> how do i identify the (ipadd) machine thats running my app if i use a dial up conxn where the ip add changes every session
( In short how do i control the machine @ my home from somewhere else like an internet cafe) ???
I use a datagram based socket & packet for implementing this.. any suggestions?

"(ipadd) machine thats running my app" - Which machine are you talking about? You have 2 to 3 systems. One is your machine in Internet cafe and another is the home appliance. And/Or you can have a middleware machine in your home. Either way you should know the IP Address or URL address. Else you will not be able to connect.

You can have 3 systems. One in Internet cafe, second, a middleware machine in your home and third is your home appliance. The middleware has a application enabled by wired or bluetoothed to talk to the home appliance. The middleware can have a URL or IPAddress. Connect to this machine from your cafe and do the neccessary.

HT4865 Does Apple turn over the iCloud decryption keys to the government agency upon a legal request

Our corporate issued devices are managed via an MDM engine and we current block iCloud access as a policy.
We would like to consider enabling iCloud, to allow them to do backups and doc sync to improve user's productivity.
Our concern is that if a government entity subpoenas Apple, does Apple give them the decryption keys?
The KB article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4865?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
says that they don't give them to 3rd party, not clear if government fits in that list.
Does anyone know?
Or is the encryption key somehow derived by the user's id/password so there is nothing for Apple to give?

ARD 3.6.1 - unable to fully control a client over the web

I am controling a mac mini at a remote location.
I have the remotre system set up using DYNDNS. The router at that location has ports 3283 and 5900 open, pointing towards the IP of the mac mini. Remote Access is enabled with all priviledges checked.
I am able to set up the connection as well as see and control the machine - no problem.
I am however uable to copy files, install packages, update client software and generate reports. ARD tell me the system does not support that procedure.
Any advice on this?

If you can't remember the answers to the security questions, then go to Express Lane and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Security' and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox).

I have an (iPad 2) and an iMac (2012). I have one apple ID used for both the itunes and appstore on the iPad, and on the iMac a different apple ID used for the appstore and itunes. What will be the consequences of changing my email ID on the ipad to the one used on the imac? I don't want to delete the iPad apple ID, just never use it again. I just want to work with 1 apple ID over the 2 devices.
I have purchased apps on the iPad and other documents/movies/books etc and if I sync to the iMac will all that be deleted? How can I just use the one apple ID for all? Does it mean that every time I connect my iPad to the iMac that I have to login to itunes using the iPad apple ID? Maybe it is that simple I don't know.

My kids fight over the iMac - is there any software available that will limit there accounts to a certain amount of time each day, so once they've used their alloted time allowance they have to log off?

What about using a chess clock. This can be a solution if two kids are fighting for the same Mac.
A chess clock has two connected time displays, linked in such a way that only one clock can run. When one of the clocks is stopped the other starts.
The clock runs for the player who is on the move. A player makes a move then stops the running clock, automatically starting the opponent's clock. Unless the move has ended the game, the move is not completed until the clock has been stopped.
A chess clock can be used to control access to any scarce shared resource. Two children can peaceably share a computer with the help of a chess clock.
The application to chess is that all moves must be made within a given time limit. A player who has not made the required number of moves loses the game on time.

Connecting Apple TV 2 to iMac

Is there any way that i would be able to use my imac an external display for my apple tv 2?? i belive i have the right wires to do it but am unable to navigate settings on the imac to get it to work.

Thanks for the reply and I appologise for not getting back sooner, been away.
It seems that the iMac requires a reboot for any network changes to take effect, at least that is the experience here.
I have a My Book attached to the iMac via usb which is accessable by apple tv and the imac, it is formated in NTFS. It will not show up on the Macbook air, no matter what username and PW is sign on with.
