Control external swf file that is loaded into main movie

I've loaded an external movie into Scene2 of the main movie,
I want a button in the main movie, in scene two, which shows
up right now under the external loaded movie, to be able to
onRelease gotoAndStop at the first frame of the external movie
which is loaded into that scene. Do I just write that as:
AssociateSelected_btn.onRelease = function() {
gotoAndStop("RGSassociate.swf","frame1")
? I thought I tried this, but since the ext.movie is loaded
automatically on entering the scene it is not put into a level
(which would be easier to navigate)....
Any help/thoughts would be much appreciated, thanks!

Just a thought- can i refer to the external movie through the
loading component instance name?
Still wondering if I can control the time line inside the
external movie from the main movie...

  • How do I find the width of an external swf file that I am loading in

    I have loaded in an external swf file and it works fine.
    However, when I get the width dimensions of the movieclip that is housing the external swf file it gives me a '0' for the width.
    Thanks for your time.

    you must wait until loading is complete before trying to access the loaded objects width.  at that point you can determine the width,height of the onstage/backstage objects in frame 1 of the loaded swf.

  • Loading external swf file in a new window

    Hi,
    I've got a few .swf files with video tutorials I've created using Captivate 4.
    I wanted to link them so I've created a main screen with menu with buttons in Flash.
    I've added AS to load the external swf files but they load in the same window. How can I load these .swf files in seperate window so that you could get back to the main window after you've finished watching?
    Here's my code:
    stop();
    var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    button1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, movie1_1);
    function movie1_1(e:MouseEvent):void
        var myURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("01_01_Welcome.swf");
        myLoader.load(myURL);
        addChild(myLoader);
    I'm also attaching screenshot with menu in flash

    I've deleted the line and now the code lookes like that:
    stop();
    var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    button1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, movie1_1);
    function movie1_1(e:MouseEvent):void
        var myURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("01_01_Welcome.swf");
        addChild(myLoader);
    Unfortunately, it doesn't load the .swf file when you click on the button...

  • Trying to properly code a menu with buttons that can go back and forth between external swf files

    I have a project I've been working on that, when properly coded, has a "main menu" with 4 "doors" (buttons). When the corresponding buttons to these "doors" are clicked, it should go to and play an external .swf file. If that doesn't make sense, think of a DVD menu. You click play movie, it plays the movie. When the movie is over, there's two buttons on that swf file to either play the movie over or go back the main menu, which is an external .swf file (Remember, we go to the movie from the menu, which is a seperate file). So far, the buttons work. The menu works. However, from the movie, at the conclusion, when I click the button to go back to the main menu, it displays the movie clip and the buttons, but none of the buttons work. I'm starting to think it has to do with the fact the main menu was written in AS3 and the movie was made in AS2. If anyone can assist me in being to able to keep both files and still navigate between the two, being able to bring up the menu from the movie and be able to play the movie again, and so on and so on, that'd be GREAT. I'm somewhat of a noob to Flash, but I learn quickly and I'm open to any suggestions. Here's the code for main menu, which I guess acts as the parent file, and the movie. If I get this to work, I essentially would duplicate the same actions for the other 4 doors, once I complete the environments for them. Thanks
    Main.Fla/Swf (written in AS3)
    (This is the action on the first frame, that has all the buttons. For this question, I'm just trying to properly code for 'Door4', which is the "door" to the movie.)
    import flash.display.Loader;
    stop();
    var myLoader1:Loader=new Loader ();
    Door4.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, jayzSwf);
    function jayzSwf(myevent1:MouseEvent):void
              var myURL1:URLRequest = new URLRequest("jayzspeaks.swf");
              myLoader1.load(myURL1);
              addChild(myLoader1);
              myLoader1.x = 0;
              myLoader1.y = 0;
    Movie.Fla/Swf (written in AS2)
    (This is action on the button that returns to the menu)
    on (release) {
              this.createEmptyMovieClip("container",this.getNextHighestDepth());
              container.loadMovie("main.swf");

    At least you're going in the correct (mis)direction. You have AS3 loading AS2. So that's not a huge hurdle.
    I believe all you really need to do is send your Main.swf a signal that the content it loaded (e.g. jayzspeaks.swf) is done and you want to get rid of it.
    The code I pointed you to asks you to (upon download and import then) instantiate it in both AS2 and AS3. They give a very simple easy to understand line of code.
    // as2, load this in jayzspeaks.swf
    var myBridge:SWFBridgeAS2 = new SWFBridgeAS2("connectionID", clientObj);
    // as3, load this in main.swf
    var myBridge:SWFBridgeAS3 = new SWFBridgeAS3("connectionID", clientObj);
    Make sure the connectionID matches between them. Set it to whatever you want.
    When you're done with your as2 loaded content you'd send a signal (over localconnection) back to the AS3 Main like they say:
    myBridge.send("someFunctionToUnloadContent");
    myBridge.close();
    You'd need to make the as3 function "someFunctionToUnloadContent()" (example purposes only name) and it should unload the jayzspeaks.swf that was loaded in the loader.
    Make sure you get that close in there so you don't drill up a bunch of localconnection objects just like the simple source code says.

  • 10.3.183.5 Won't load certain older external swf files

    This update ruined my whole day.
    Basically, there is a bug with the new player that causes swf files that would load with the old player to crash this version. The swf files that caused the crash were just basic images, but they had effects on (example: http://images.expressionstributes.com/logos/1.swf )
    Seems like a simple problem, but in a several-thousand line app, it takes a long time to realize where the error is and a long time to realize it is the swf file you are loading thats causing the problem (I thought it was something to do with the security policy or cross domain file)

    Hi John,
    Do you think your swf could be impacted by the following bug?

    If not, could you please add a new bug to bugbase.adobe.com and post back on a new thread with the bug URL?

  • Preload External swf files

    I am trying to create a website that has a main swf file that
    loads several external swf files into itself.
    I would like the preloader not only to preload all of the
    "main" content, but also the content that exists inside the
    external swf files before proceeding to the main user interface.
    Any help that you could give, addresses to a tutorial would
    be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    You could load each movie using movieClip.loadClip(); and
    check it has been loaded by using a listener and the
    "myListener.onLoadInit" script to write your own function to begin
    the playhead for that movie.

  • Access a component inside external swf file

    Hi, I loaded a external swf file that it is a dialog.
    var swfLoader : Loader = new Loader();
    var swfURL : URLRequest = new URLRequest("dialog.swf");
    swfLoader.load(swfURL);
    swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,imgLoaded);
    function imgLoaded(event:Event):void
    var movie : * = swfLoader.content;
    var clip : MovieClip = movie;
    parent.addChild(clip);
    Now, inside the movieClip there is a TextField component
    named message that i want to change its 'text' property.
    The question is: How can i access to this property to change
    it?
    Regards

    okay,
    I have the image component in ProductCatalogThumbnail.mxml, which has an id of "img"
    so, i created a public variable in the file and a public function that returns the value of the object.
    public var imagecopy:Object;
            [Bindable]
             public function imagecopyfunction():Object{
             imagecopy  = img;
             return imagecopy;
    now, I want to access this image in the mxml file ProductList.mxml in a function
      public function init():void
          ProductCatalogThumbnail.imagecopy.addEventListener( MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, beginDrag );
         // accepting a drag/drop operation...
           this.area.addEventListener( DragEvent.DRAG_ENTER, acceptDrop );
           // handling the drop...
          //this.area.addEventListener( DragEvent.DRAG_DROP, handleDrop );
    I tried to use the variable, and then i tried to use the function:
    I got this error when I tried the variable : 1119: Access of possibly undefined property imagecopy through a reference with static type Class.
    ProductCatalogThumbnail.imagecopy.addEventListener( MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, beginDrag );
    and this error when i tried the function:  1061: Call to a possibly undefined method imagecopyfunction through a reference with static type Class.
    ProductCatalogThumbnail.imagecopyfunction().addEventListener( MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, beginDrag );
    i made sure i imported ProductCatalogThumbnail file in the beginning of my application.
    I am not sure what went wrong.

  • Load external SWF file into another SWF

    Hello all.
    I've tried loading a .swf file externally into another .swf file on my  local drive, and it works. Now, when I try to Simulate Download, the  preloader in the 2nd file doesn't get played and the images in there  take a while to get displayed.
    I need to load a .swf file from a server into the parent .swf file(I'm  working on using a "thin flash file" for added security for the company I  work for - blank file which loads the content from another file on  their server).
    So far, I have:
    try
        var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
        addChild(myLoader);
        var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("newBook.swf");
        myLoader.load(url);
    catch (e:Error)
        trace("ruhroh");
    When I replace the "newBook.swf" with the URL of another .swf, there's just a blank page.
    I'm not too sure how to proceed, and I hope you will be able to help me out. I'd greatly appreciate the help.
    Many thanks,
    -Nazgul

    What happens is...when I set the speed to DSL(32.6kbps), the screen is blank and the preloader doesn't show up. It just goes directly to the Main screen. And then, the pages inside don't get loaded properly.
    This only happens when I try to Simulate Download.
    But that's not really the problem. I need to load a .swf file from a server into another .swf file, and just adding the link to the child .swf isn't working.
    Anyway, thanks for your help

  • Trouble loading an external swf file implemented with AS3

    I am using Adobe Flash CS3
    At first, I tried
    swf_mc.loadMovie("//swf file
    location");
    It gave me
    quote:
    Warning: 1060: Migration issue: The method loadMovie is no
    longer supported.
    USE: var l = new Loader(); addChild(l); l.load(new
    URLRequest("your url"));.
    Well, the given code isn't working at all.
    But since it is a migration error, I thought maybe I can just
    save it into Flash5 format with AS1. Then it worked with most
    external swf files. However, the one I am trying to load is a swf
    file with AS3, so my older version swf can't load it at all.
    Anyone has any ideas about how to load an external AS3 swf
    file?

    AS3 is a completely different beast than AS1 or 2. loadMovie
    was removed from the language.
    The answer to your question is two fold. First, Adobe was
    kind enough to give us the code when it finds a migration issue.
    var _ldr:Loader = new Loader();
    addChild( _ldr );
    _ldr.load( new URLRequest( "your url") );
    Handling progress has also changed. I have a ContentLoader
    package on my site that you're free to use that should familiarize
    you with the new way that things are done in AS3.

  • Loading external .swf files issue...

    Hi,
    I'm working on a simple example of loading external swf files with some ActionScript.
    I've placed an instance of List Component and gave it an instance name of loadList. Using Component Inspector, I assigned data for 4 external files as below:
    Next, I've added a UILoader component (instance name - loadWindow). The code that is supposed to load the content into UILoader is this:
    loadList.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, selectItem);
    function selectItem(e:Event):void
        loadWindow.source = e.target.selectedItem.data;
    When I run it in a FlashPlayer, it only loads the first 2 swf files....  (I checked the files and all files are fine).
    I hope to get some light on the issue so any help will be appreciated.

    Try tracing e.target.selectedItem.data to make sure it's what you expect.
    Also, have you tried using the load() method instead of the source property?

  • Loaded SWF file CANNOT be made into button DIRECTLY?

    I'm experiencing a problem which may have no solution, but I
    would like to know why I cannot do what I want to do.
    PROBLEM:
    I am attempting to load in an external SWF file and once it
    is loaded, I wish to directly make the new Sprite/MovieClip into a
    button. However, the newly loaded Sprite/MovieClip seems to be
    resistant to be made into a button DIRECTLY. I would like to know
    why this is.
    WORKAROUNDS:
    Here are a couple of workarounds, but again I wish to know
    why I cannot do what I want to do.
    1) I place the new Sprite/MovieClip into an empty Sprite on
    stage and make the once empty sprite into a button.
    2) Construct the external SWF in such a way so i can refer to
    a MovieClip within the SWF file and make that MovieClip into a
    button.
    CODE EXAMPLE:
    I am loading a SWF file thru a Loader and then taking the
    loaded SWF file and adding it to an existing sprite on the stage. I
    then attempt to make a button out of the newly loaded swf file, but
    it fails to be clickable.
    The following is some quick code to illustrate my problem. I
    already have workarounds in place, so please let me know WHY the
    following code is impossible. thanks!
    ==============================================================================

    There should be no problem with what you are trying to do. If
    you want someone to look at what you've done, you have to be
    careful to show that and not possibly errant code because that is
    the substance of your post and what you requested be looked at--we
    cannot guess what you may have done wrong in setting things up or
    for code that you do not show.
    I tried your code before posting my response and it worked
    fine except for your error with the COMPLETE aspect. I did not
    utilize any objects for loading things into, so I suggest you look
    there.

  • Loading external swf file

    Hi all,
    I am trying to load an external SWF file into my website.. but it is not working. Here is my code
    public var CD:Loader=new Loader();
    protected function application1_creationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void
    CD.load(new URLRequest("http://localhost/assets/slide.swf"));
    addChild(this.CD);
    CD.x=2;
    CD.y=170;
    // TODO Auto-generated method stub
    Can anyone tell me what is going wrong..
    The url is correct and its working in my browser when i type 'http://localhost/assets/slide.swf' in the browser... So problem is with flex..

    I am pretty sure that Flash's security measures prevents the coder from loading swfs that are not local to the swf that is trying to load them.  So the swf that is trying to load another swf would have to be on the same system or same networked server.  From what I have experienced its best to reference the location of the files from the swf that is doing the loading.  I am not sure if you are still referencing your swf as "http://localhost/assets/slide.swf" but that might be a problem as well.
    so
    mainfolder
    movie.swf
    assets
    slide.swf
    so in movie.swf
    //Start: Put in desired function
    var swfLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadComplete);
    swfLoader.load(new URLRequest("assets/slide.swf"));
    //End
    Also add this function
    public function loadComplete(e:Event):void
         stage.addChild(e.target.content);
    This might help explain it
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/flash/display/Loader.html
    the first set of bullet points highlight the security options
    ps. I got this working on my end, copy and pasted the code, of course i had to recreate the file system structure and slide.swf
