Control the downloading speed

Is there any solution or suggestion to control the transfering speed of data. For example, the line is 5k, but i want to use 90%fo it to download a file?Thank you

Old post - new answer.
You didn't say how you are carrying out data transfer. But I can tell you a method we have used.
1. Data is transmitted block by block.
2. Transfer is controlled by the downloaded, not the downloader. (In other words, upstream is a server which will accept open, getBlock, and close requests from clients.)
3. When making a client request:
o Record the start time.
o Record the time when the data is returned.
4. When making each client request:
o Look at the turnaround time for the previous request.
o Assume there is 100% utilization during that period.
o Divide that time by the percentage utilization you want. (This gives a "delay".)
o Sleep from "now" until the delay period has elapsed.
o Make the getBlockRequest.
This is a conservative algorithm.
o It uses a percentage of the AVAILABLE bandwidth, not total bandwidth.
o It reflects load on the server as well as the load on the network.
o It reacts very quickly to changes in actual load.
o Like just about any other method, it is operating "in arrears"; the basic assumption is that conditions now are about like conditions in the past.
Drawback: If you have many more contenders for resources than there are resources available, then this algorithm delays everybody. You may prefer an algorithm that limits the number of simultaneous users - maybe by granting a token to each simultaneous user - up to the number which you want to handle simultaneously. This will allow those requesters to finish their work and get out of the way.

  • How can i control the download speed?

    HI:
when i am downing a software or media from a downloadurl,
    i want to control the speed, eg: 100k, 30k, 20k, ...
    how can i do!

    'greatness'?
@OP you could try lowering your socket receive buffer size to the desired bandwidth-delay product.

in Firefox can not see the Downloads window, in the jump in the boot to be seen - the download speed
Downloaded much and now can not see how to fix it?

I hate the new downloads-in-a-tab scheme. This was an unnecessary change in my book (if it aint broke, don't "fix it").
So in order to get it back, I performed the about:config browser.download.useToolkitUI change, but now all I get is a blank download window that pops up every time I download something.
Is there something else that I need to do? I've checked the change and it was saved, but it didn't resolve my issue as much as it just caused me a new issue.

  • Is there any difference of the Downloading speed of Folio if i'm in Enterprise or Professional Editi

    Hi Adobe,
I have compared the downloading time between Adobe Multi-Viewer and Zinio App(also hosting digital magazine), I found out that it is so much faster in Zinio.
Are there any difference of the downloading speed if let's say the I'm in Enterprise or in Professional edition?
    Thank you for the response!

There is no speed throttling that I’m aware of.

  • Control the scrolling speed while browsing a PDF file from a URL in Safari

When I open a URL pointing to a PDF file from Safari, the PDF file is opened by the AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin.  Too many times the multi-page PDFs scroll too fast up and down uncontrollably from the touch Pad.
Is there a way to control the scrolling speed and make my reading experience better?

You need to remove both, while Safari is closed.
You can use the Trash - Put Back command to replace them right away (again, close Safari first) or drag them from the trash to some spare folder, in case you want them later.

  • Why is the download speed for Creative Cloud updates and initial software installation so slow?

Why is the download process for Adobe Creative Cloud updates and initial installations so slow? I can download and update other software from other providers almost an order of magnitude faster. This slow download problem has been present since I started using Creative Cloud soon after it was initially offered.
Adobe customer support maintains that there is no throttling at Adobe's end, and that no one has complained about this problem -- this forum shows the latter not to be true.
    What is the problem?

    Hi ErstwhileCreative,
I don't think I've ever checked the download speed but the installers are definitely large files, many several GB. It might seem longer because the download immediately progresses into the installation at 50%

  • Is it possible to adjust the download speed?

I was just wondering if there was a way to adjust the download speed of iTunes. Reason being, I want to be able to download music or whatever but just at a lower speed (like in the background) so I can still do whatever else I want and not have to worry about lag. That way I don't have to worry about pausing and resuming all the time.

I know this can be done if you are using another computer in path to do some traffic shaping. Many ISPs do this for P2P program traffic.
Yuor computer should be able to share available bandwidth between applications. Unless on of your apps is sensitive to other traffic this should be automatic.

  • Why am I getting the download speed only 1.6-1.8 MB between 7PM to 11PM in the past month?

Why am I getting the download speed only 1.6-1.8 MB between 7PM to 11PM in the past month?  I have 3MB plan.
Is there anyone experiencing the same situation?  I live in Claremont, CA 91711.

If you have not solved it yet..
It would help to know, at least the following info...
#1 The brand and model of your modem.
#2 The brand and model of your router.
#3 What is the OS and version that is on your computer.

  • Dramatic fall in the download speed from iTune

    Hey all,
Recently,I have seen a dramatic fall in the download speed from iTunes.
I have a 100/4mb line, which runs absolutely fine for everything else.
Currently, I am downloading an App on 42mb, which currently says it will take 26 mins to download.
Up until a few weeks ago the same file took 15 seconds!!! This problem is with my 2009 27" iMac.
If I do the upgrade of the same application on my iPhone 5 connected to the same router and Wi-Fi the download takes 15 seconds !!!

At that distance from exchange your max sync should be around the 2K you started with  it may well increase again if left on 24/7
SN margin is not bad but may be worth checking for noise problems   6 Db is the target figure
Sn margin quoted by most routers is the figure that the system thinks your line needs for stable operation so higher is not better
Have you tried a quite line test
dial 17070 option 2 and listen - should hear nothing
best done with old type analogue phone digital will do but may have slight hiss
do not use home hub phone
If any post helps tick the star box on the left
Just cause Im paranoid dont mean they are not out to get me

  • I've extended my Time Capsule wifi via Airport Express and the download speed is still super slow

I get an average of 80Mbps download speed when close to the Time Capsule. When I got upstairs in the house the download speed drastically drops. So I decided to extend the wifi range using an Airport Express. See image below. I've placed the Express router upstairs in the house and when I stand close to the Express I get a very slow download speed. About 7Mbps. Even slower than when I hadn't "extended" the range. What's going on...?

Well, the first rule that you need to remember is that when you "extend" using wireless.....you will have a drop in the potential speed on the network. So, while you might have more "range" for the network, the network speed will drop. Nothing that you can really do about that other than connect the Time Capsule and AirPort Express using a wired Ethernet connection. There will be no speed loss over the Ethernet cable, so the Express should deliver approximately the same speed as the Time Capsule.
The next rule is that when a device "extends" using wireless, it can only extend the quality and speed of the signal that it receives. A speed "boost" will not appear.
Try locating the Express about half way between the Time Capsule and the area that needs more wireless coverage.  Anything that you can do to minimize obstructions between the Time Capsule and Express and on to the other area will help.....but you will never get close to the performance of connecting the AirPorts using an wired Ethernet cable.
Unfortunately, Apple really doesn't tell you very clearly, if at all,  about important things like the two rules above.

  • The download speed in iTunes on mac is very very slow.

The download speed in iTunes on mac is very very slow (One film - 180 hours download time ???). I did a download via IPad, too. Via iPad the download was finished after 30 minutes.
    Regards

Okay. I found the mistake. TimeMachine made backups on TimeCapsule (700 GB). So I had no more free space on TimeCapsule. Because the mediathek is on TimeCapsule, too --> Download speed was very slow.
Sorry for my silly question :-(

  • Why is the download speed so slow?

I have 100MB internet, and I am able to receive that speed with other applications. (I literally just tested with steam and got 9.1MB/s, at the same time as the Adobe download is running)
My Adobe download is 35 KB/sec or less, seriously guys? I don't intend to leave my PC downloading for 2 days just to get software!
I have tried both with the download manager (The download errored at 78% after I had left it running for about 6 hours) and now the browser (I've managed to get 1.6GB of the 5.8GB in 6 hours, currently running at 36.8KB/sec)
In the same time period I have downloaded the entire of GTA IV (15.6GB) and managed to play it for 5 hours!
Any idea what is causing it to be this slow or is the download service really this bad?

I'm using gigabit wired internet, with an appropriate network card and router, my firewall is completely disabled (both on my router and my pc) and I don't see why anti-virus should interfere with the download,
What is the general download speed normally received? Would you recommend using the browser download or the download manager?
I'm happy if this is just a "slow day" for adobe server or something, but my internet seems to be 100% fine as several other downloads I have tried have managed to get full speed even while the Adobe download is left running. (I obviously have had these other downloads off the majority of the time the adobe download has been running)
    Cheers for the response,
    Rob

  • Why is the download speed so different to the wireless router?

Apologies if this is not the correct location - newbie, so be gentle with me please!
My question relates to a wireless connection I have established with a Belkin 802.11g 54g wireless router. Airport configured incredibly easily BTW. Anyway, when I look at the router settings by entering the IP addess of the router, it tells me there is a DL data rate of about 3800, which i take to be 3.8gig. Upload is about 450. I am signed up to an "up to 8meg" ISP, so I know 3.8 is probably not that bad.
However, when I run a speed test on the DSL, it gives a performance around half that indicated on the router. Is that normal? The attenuation figure was 51 for DL and 29 for UL if that helps. I wondered if the 802.11g installed was the issue and whether 802.111n would improve this?
The same figures apply even when the router is connected to the main socket in the house rather than 3 floors up.

  • Satellite A100: looking for software to control the fan speed

    Hi,
I'm looking for software to control/read out the fan speed of my laptop, because Power Saver does not seem to do anything. It does not seem to matter if i set the 'Cooling Method' to 'Battery Optimized' or 'Maximum Performance', or even the fixed CPU processing speed. I've (de)installed the Common Module & Power Saver a couple of times to no avail.
Also SpeedFan & NHC do not work.

    Hi
Sorry but I do not agree with your opinion about Power saver utility. Do you really believe that Toshiba create tool like this for nothing? Just for info: power saver utility is not available with Vista OS and on this forum you can find topics where people really missing this nice and useful utility.
Anyway it is well known that many tools you can find on the internet have no much influence on notebook cooling fan speed. To be honest, something like that can be very dangerous because most users want to have silent notebooks and overheating issues are totally underestimated.
Can you please be a little bit more specific about your problem? Is your notebook too loud for you or is battery running time to short? Why you are not satisfied with this tool?
