Controlling iTunes from laptop keyboard media controls

I have a dell xps laptop. The front of the laptop has media controls, for pause, play, skip, mute, volume etc. They currently only function with Windows Media Player. Is there any way I can change them so they work with iTunes?
Thanks for any help.

I have a similar problem. I have a Compaq laptop, and the media keys work when iTunes is the current application. Completely by chance, I found something that let me change the settings. I tried to install a plugin (for something completely unrelated) and created a plug-ins folder in the iTunes directory as per the plug-in instructions. When I opened iTunes, a bar appeared at the top, over the normal window, that was exactly like the mac bar, with the Mac buttons (fully functional). When I right-clicked on this, it gave me a different set of options, and in the options window there was a command that would make the media keys work even if iTunes was in the background, and it worked. The plug-in I installed didnt work, so I deleted it, and the mac bar at the top went with it. Then the media keys stopped working when iTunes was in the background again. No idea what happened and any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Controlling iTunes from within Keynote 2?

Is it possible to control iTunes from within Keynote, when I'm using the presentation tools? I haven't been able to make it work, and it is an essential part of being able to use Keynote in my lectures. It would be nice to switch from Powerpoint.
Right now, I'm using Synergy to control iTunes, and PPT lets me do it, but control keys/functions seem to be locked out in Keynote. Am I missing something?
    Thanks for any help,
    Geoff

Games often hardwire their keyboard functions into the code which means you can't change them, and they override your own settings.
The best option I can suggest is playing Urban Terror from a new user account on your Mac, in which you remove all Dashboard widgets and add the iTunes widget. A quick click of your mouse scroll wheel while playing Urban Terror will bring up Dashboard (you may have to set this in advance) and while that is not quite "ingame" it is as near as you will get... unless someone else has a better idea.
(I am assuming that you don't want to use Command-tab to switch to iTunes itself while you are playing?)

  • Sync itunes from laptop to ipad

how do i sync itunes from laptop to ipad

If you are on iTunes 11 on your computer then you may want to enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), which might make it easier to navigate.
Connect the iPad to your computer and select it on that left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Music - if you select that tab you should then be able to select which of you iTunes music library to sync to the iPad's Music app

  • Control key from Windows keyboard

    Hello
I use VNC to remote control my mac mini (OS X 10.4.10) from my Windows laptop. However I cannot figure out how to emulate the Mac Control key from my Windows keyboard.
This is needed because I have multiple iTunes libraries on the mini, and on the Mac keyboard, you can ctrl-click the iTunes icon in the dock to select which library to open. When I'm on VNC controlling the Mac, the ctrl key on the Windows keyboard apparently does not equal the Mac ctrl key.
Alt on the Windows keyboard maps to the Command (Apple) key on the Mac keyboard, but Control doesn't seem to correspond.
    Thanks

It seems I made a mistake on which key I need to selectively open a particular library when launching iTunes. It is the "Option" key on Mac, but I still can't find the proper key combination to do this when I VNC into the mac from Windows.
    Thanks

  • Cover flow into album art and how to control iTunes from another app.

Hi all 2 areas of concen, one is coverflow/ album art and the other is itunes controller:
I have searched but cannot find the answer to this:
    1) I have some songs with album info already, and I used iTunes to get the album art for coverflow etc. ... some songs from the same album did not have the album category filled in, I go back and fill it in: now how do I get iTunes to recognize the album art so it shows up for the newly corrected songs?
    2) In coverflow, iTunes picked the wrong album cover, can I manually fix it/pick the right one?
    3) will coverflow only show album art for those albums recognized by iTunes, or will it use album art that I get from other sources and add manually? And what will show up in my ipod?
    and lastly
4), is there anyway to control iTunes without switching apps (if I am working in Word or safari and want to skip a song, etc)...is there an overlay controller?
    TIA

Copy the entire folder from one drive to the other, change the path that iTunes is using to access the library.

  • With iOS7, why can't my Toyota's bluetooth radio no longer control iTunes from my iPhone5?

I updated my iPhone 5 with iOS7 and now I have no song-advance control (via steering wheel buttons or dashboard) over iTunes from my phone. Is this a bug within Apple's new operating system or is there something I need to change in settings in the phone or car to regain control over song-advancing? For whatever reason, the dashboard radio controls no longer control track skipping either. My car is a 2012 Toyota Prius and I assume the issue affects other Toyota models with bluetooth capability.

OK, so just to reiterate what others have said:
    1. Remove the multimedia devices from your phone (Settings-Bluetooth-(your device)-i-Forget this Device
    2. Do a hard reset on the phone -push both buttons until the phone shuts down; then wait patiently for it to restart
    3. Go to your car and remove the Bluetooth pairing for your phone
    4. Turn off the car and wait 30 seconds
    5. Turn on the vehicle and re-pair your devices.
After trying a number of different combinations, this finally worked. Good luck.

  • Controlling iTunes from a different computer

I have an old Powermac G5 with my music collection on, and a MacBook connected via Ethernet to it. As the G5 doesn't have an infra-red port, I was wondering if there was anyway of using the infra-red port (with the apple remote) on the macbook to control iTunes on the G5?

no. but you could use *screen sharing* to control iTunes on the G5. also, there are some scripts @ Doug's that may be of interest:

lastly, if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone, you could use Apple's *remote app*.

  • Can someone tell me how to stop itunes from saving my media to two files?

I know the answer is simple...but I can't seem to find it in plain english!
So i bought a new used computer (lol) and took all my backed up music from my external drive and dumped it right into my computer. Put the whole MUSIC file into finder, under the "Music" section...then when that was done I dragged it into iTunes.
Well lo and behold my 500G hard drive is almost full! AGH! So i tediously went through files on my itunes, deleting all I could. Everytime it asked me if I wanted to move the files to the trash and I said YES!
Ok...so after hours of that, i look in my Music file in Finder (which now has a new folder from my external called MUSIC) and lo and behold...every file i deleted is still there!
So, I'm no dummy. I guess iTunes makes a new folder of iTunes media, something like that? Doubling everything?
I will gladly delete everything and start over if I must, but can someone please tell me how I can put music files on my computer without them doubling, or how to delete them and have them actually delete?  Settings?!
    help! Thank you!

Adding music to iTunes will copy it into the iTunes mdia folder.
Put it into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes older.
This will move (not copy) the media.
You can delete the files you originally copied into the Music folder.

  • Itunes from laptop and old nano to iPad mini?

I have an old nano that I sync to my laptop via a USB connection. I can load songs via iTunes this way and add songs to iTunes using the laptop CD player. Now I have an iPad mini, how do I transfer the songs from my laptop and old nano onto my iPad mini?

The iPad already cones with the iTunes ap that just takes you straight into the store. I can't see how to sync it from there.

  • Transferring iTunes from Laptop to Hard drive - Music/Movies problems

    Hi
I was told in the apple shop that I could change the location of my iTunes by copying the files and changing the folder location in the advanced preferences. I have done this and now to listen to anything or watch anything i have to physically locate each item.
Is there a way i can do this for my whole library?
    Cheers

I was told in the apple shop that I could change the location of my iTunes by copying the files and changing the folder location in the advanced preferences
Doubtful they explained to do it that way because that will almost always not work.
You change the location of preferences to where you want the filed then iTunes menu File -> Library -> Consolidate.

  • Disable aluminum keyboard media keys (F7-F9)?

Hi. I've been a user of Synergy for a couple years now, a program which allows you to control iTunes from the keyboard. It's has a lot of features that I like which aren't available by using the basic functionality of the media control keys on the new aluminum Apple keyboard.
Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the media functionality of the F7, F8 and F9 keys to free them up for use with Synergy? I'm willing to edit .plist files if I have to.

Looks like this was already reported earlier in another thread (but with the white Apple Remote instead of keyboard).

  • ITunes and laptop media controls

I have a Toshiba satellite laptop, with media controls (play/pause, back forward and stop). I cannot find a hotkey editor which allows me to change what the keys does, and the media controls only seem to work with windows media player (eww) and not with itunes. Is there any way I can make them work with iTunes? Is there any way to setup any global hotkeys for iTunes?

I have the same problem with my HP laptop media controls. In iTunes 7.1.x, the volume keys on my laptop double registered whenever iTunes was open and not focused on the program, so the volume would go up/down twice at one push and when pressing mute, it would actually mute then unmute as you released the button. However, the play/pause, stop, ff/rev keys worked fine.
I've decided to go back to 7.1.1 until there's a fix, but I don't know how to do it without losing my settings. If anyone can help, please let me know! This is my original post for reinstallation: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=990100&tstart=0

  • HT3819 Can i use my "iTunes" as a reomte to control my iPhone?

I was thinking if i could use my PC or Mac to control my iPhone?
Example: When i change song on iTunes the iPhone change song. Like the Remote app, just from iTunes to iPhone instead of controling iTunes from the iPhone?

There are several remote contol apps that can control the music playing on iOS devices.  Check out Tango Remote (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tango-remote-control-media/id345279970?mt=8which can remotely control the music already loaded on your iPad, or SpotQueue and SpotQueue Remote which can remotely control Spotify https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/spotqueue-for-spotify/id528137223?mt=8.)
