Conversation View in Mail

I love the new mail in Lion and I see how to click the button to show the email thread as a conversation.  But I don't want to click the button every single time.  How do I just set it so whenever I click any email in inbox it shows the whole thread of them?
Thanks!

  • Conversation view like mail in lion

Hi! I am not able to see the mails in the usefull conversation view I have in Lion when the messages are orgnised in thread. It's seems that ios5 organized the similar messages in thread and when u click on it it shows the mails separated each other and not together like in the Conversation view  of Mail for Lion.
    Can u help me please?
I would be really gratefull if u can answer me. Thanks
    Cheers,
    Alberto

Well, I tried that and all connections were successful.
However, I just tried something else.  I had an online Exchange account that I have been using, but recently deactivated the account, and moved the mail servers to my own domain.  I had left the Exchange server account active to give the system and accounts time to migrate and sync, etc.  On a whim, after your above email, I deleted the inactive Exchange account and that seems to have fixed it.  I don't know why, though, because all email accounts were set to use mobile SMPT2GO for all outgoing mail, and that account was turned off on the server side.
For anyone else having this problem, I also tried the various fixes in the thread here.  There are some good ideas, though they didn't work for me.

  • Conversation view in mail broken

Since updating to 10.9.2, conversation view in mail appears to be broken.  Conversations now include random emails with no apparent association.
This is in addition to ongoign problems of disapearing gmail emails.
    Anys solutions?

Same problem here. No solution as yet.

  • Conversation view in Mail - switch on for *all* folders?

I'm liking the "organize by conversation" option in the new Mail, but unless I'm missing something it looks like I have to switch it on separately or each of my (many!) folders.
Is there a way to just switch it on globally?

I'm afraid that setting is folder specific.
There's a very simple "Info.plist" xml file on disk inside each folder (for example):
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/[email protected]@imap.gmail.com/Label.mbox/Info.plist
where the status of conversation view for that folder is stored.
    Enabled:
    <key>DisplayInThreadedMode</key>
    <string>yes</string>
    Disabled:
    <key>DisplayInThreadedMode</key>
    <string>no</string>
If you're confortable with shell scripting I guess you could go on about bulk searching & replacing those values from "no" => "yes".
Just remember to backup first and do your tests with the Mail.app turned off.

  • Conversation view useless in Mail

I posted a version of this question before but am asking again as there was no response. Conversation view in Mail only displays the last sender's name in the "From" field. This is very confusing and makes it hard to find messages. If you CC yourself, messages are displayed as "From" you. iOS Mail, various web mail's, and other applications display several senders making it much easier to find the message you are looking for. Am I the only one who sees this as a flaw? I like Mail but this is a deal breaker for work email. I have to use the web mail interface (which displays multiple senders in conversation view) and is actually OK.
    --David

I did a little more research into this.
It seems that this problem has troubled people even before Yosemite. For some reason Apple's not getting the definition of a thread correctly (OK, it might be tricky but still...) and it's just getting worse instead of better. In my case Yosemite's Mail is joining threads that are obviously unrelated. Somebody there needs to put some "I" into their "AI"...
Yes, if you uncheck the "include related emails" then your replies are taken out of the conversation which is annoying.
I wish they would add an option to specify to Mail: this email is not part of the conversation and alternatively this email is.
As a bandaid I customized the toolbar adding the "Conversation" and "Show/Hide Related Messages" icons. Most of the time I set both to off. When I quickly want to look at the whole thread I click the "Show/Hide" icon (and yes, it still brings unrelated messages if those were added to the thread) and/or the "Conversation" icon. It's not elegant but it works in the sense that I can see the whole thread when I need to and I don't risk missing any messages as mentioned above.

  • Conversation View "See More" Feature

I really like the new Conversation View in Mail for Lion, and the See More feature is great, but isn't their a way to "See Less" after the message expands? I just want to collapse the message again without having to click out of the thread and back in again. It seems as if there would be an easy way to do this, but I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

I have the same issue. I tried to live with it, but it is really way too annoying. I am surprised at a lack of new features in the settings pane. If enough peolpe turn if off it probably isnt a good idea right?
    This one needs to go.

  • "Expand All Conversations" GUI Script-Mail

    Hi,
I prefer to use the "Expand All Conversations" view in Mail, however, it doesn't automatically enable after you recieve new messages, so I wrote a GUI script 2 days that selects the "Expand All Conversations" menu (under View) in Mail and I then setup a rule (To Every Message-Run this script).
My only problem is that now whenever I get a new email, the active program switches to Mail (which is extremely annoying, especially as I have assigned Mail to another Desktop!)
    Here is the script:
    tell application "Mail" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Mail"
              tell menu bar 1
                        tell menu bar item "View"
                                  tell menu "View"
click menu item "Expand All Conversations"
                                            tell menu "Expand All Conversations"
                                            end tell
                                  end tell
                        end tell
              end tell
    end tell
Does anyone know a way to work around the "Activate Mail" line of this script, or another way of doing the same thing without using a script?
    Thanks.

Actually, just avoid the first line:
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Mail"
         tell menu bar 1
              tell menu bar item "View"
                   tell menu "View"
click menu item "Expand All Conversations"
                        tell menu "Expand All Conversations"
                        end tell
                   end tell
              end tell
         end tell
    end tell
This can run in the background.

  • How to enable mail trail lines in Outlook 2013 conversation view

I was wondering if this feature still exists in Outlook 2013.
In Outlook 2010, when using conversation view, you can see the trail lines showing the "conversation tree". Please see the first image at the following link (can't post direct link or image as my account, though should be, is not verified): office.microsoft{dot}com/en-gb/outlook-help/view-email-messages-by-conversation-HA010362041.aspx
The closest feature in Outlook 2013 is Use classic indented view in Conversation Settings but it only indents the messages.

So, what exactly is the benefit of Outlook 2013?  As far as I can tell all they've done is let me see less mail (because the fonts are gigantic now), ruin the interface (with all the color and icons gone it's harder to find things), ruin the text rendering
(some parts use ClearType and some ignore it), and remove features (search from start menu, conversation threads line, etc).
I get it, now it looks like a phone, because obviously smartphone email is what we should aspire to.  A+ work.

  • Mail app conversation view excludes first message

I've trying to switch over to Mail from Outlook.  One thing I'm noticing is that in "conversation view" for messages, the orginal message is excluded.  For instance is someone sends me a message with a subject of "Hello!" and then I get a reply the subject is "Re: Hello!"  I realize it's grouping using the subject line but it should probably exclude things like "Re:", "Fw:" and others.  Is there anway to get this to happen?

Is the box checked in Mail>Preference>Viewing  include related messages.

  • Mail conversation view

    Hi,
In Conversation view i only see the replies to my emails, not my replies itself as part of the conversations.
When i click "See more from Jay" it unfolds into regular old style mail message.
This worked very well in the beta versions and the GM but i can not get it to work in the app store released version.
    Clean install was done.
    Any suggestions or ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Hi
I have this problem on Mail OSX 10.10 Yosemite...
My own replied messages do not show you even when I I check "include related messages".
    Has this feature changed?
I would like to see my own replied messages in conversation view. Not only the messages from form others. It creates a gap in the communication chain view.
    Any ideas?
    Tnx, Ide

  • Google Mail: turn off conversational view on Andro...

Does anyone know how to turn off the conversational view of e-mail on an Andoid phone using the Gmail app?

What happens if you tweak the settings on the 'normal' version of GMail, do these changes get carried over to the app?
I would try this myself, but I've put GMail in the ice making compartment on my phone, I found it to be a little resource hungry and being as it came on the phone, tis a little (insert word of your choice) to get rid of.
Been using K-9 for a while now and this does work well for me, though ya know me, I've got apps blocking everything so I don't see much in the way of adverts - IF K-9 comes with any?
@DS Ive tried your first point, no is the answer.
The only fix I can think of is to set up G mail without using the app., the Google mothership seems convinced conversational format is a good thing, I find it isnt.  A long thread can make early content hard to find on the phone.

  • Mail conversation view not working with Listserv

    Hello,
For the most part the conversation view in Apple Mail works great.  The one place it does not work is for a listserv I am part of.  I get a lot of emails form this group, they all come from the same address, so it is the same address in the To: field, the From: field is different for each message.  I expected all the messages to be grouped by the same subject line but they are not.  Other emails that I get that are NOT from a listserv group perfectly, so I feel it has to be something specific to getting emails from a listserv.

    Update......Somehow Mail sent 1/46 pending messages.....weird.

  • How to get a gmail style thread / conversation view

Does anyone know of a plugin or hack to allow viewing of threads or conversations in Apple Mail the same way the gmail does? Mail's "Organize by Thread" only goes halfway and lacks three critical aspects of gmail's "conversation" method:
    1 suppression of quoted text
2 collapsable display of the thread messages in the same window, where read messages are collapsed and unread messages are expanded
3 inclusion os sent messages in the thread view. For some reason, Apple Mail tucks these away in a separate mailbox, and you don't what you wrote unless it's quoted back to you.

Two main reasons: I want my mail to be searchable on my laptop (I use a tagging system), and I need to be able to process my mail offline. Otherwise I would use the web interface, and sometimes I still do.
Minor reasons include not wanting to see the ads all the time and the fact that gmail bogs down my browser sometimes.

  • Can no longer see messages in public folders in Outlook (2010) conversation view

(originally posted this under MS Community outlook discussion and it was suggested I post it here):
    Hello:
I believe this may be related to a recent update, but previously I could see messages from public folders in my conversation view.  Now, I am only able to see messages in private folders (including sent items).
I have the cached exchange mode on.
I loved the conversation view because I could move e-mails out of my inbox to public folders (on our company server) to keep my inbox under required size limits, but still have easy access to e-mails within the conversation string.  That view in my
opinion was the best upgrade to Outlook when it first came out.  Now it's virtually useless for me again.
If there's something i can change to get those messages re-appearing again I'd really love to know what I can do, it was really useful for me.
Thanks in advance to any who reply!

    Hi,
Based on the descrtiption, I know that there is no emails exist in public folder when using conversation view in Outlook after installing update.
    1. I suggest use OWA to check whether emails exist in public folder when using Conversation View. If it works well, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
    2. Please check the connectivity between Outlook and Public Folder.
    3. I suggest disable conversation view for test to verify whether emails appear in public folder. If the emails appear, it seems an issue on Outlook Conversation View.
    4. I also suggest run Outlook under safe mode to avoid some AVs and add-ins. Try to re-create profile to refresh the caches.
    Thanks

  • Outlook conversation view when using Send on Behalf of Accounts

Ok, so here's what I'm working with:
Have a group of users that were recently setup with a generic mailbox using "Sent on Behalf of" permissions. They can all view the account in Outlook (2010) fine and can send messages fine from it as well. We made the registry change on all machines
that causes mail they send from that account to appear in the "Sent Items" folder of the generic account instead of their own and that is working well. The only issue is that when attempting to use conversation views they will not work (you replied
to this message, you forwarded this message, etc.) now. As a test, I moved a few items from the Sent Items folder in the generic account over into the Sent Items folder of one of the users own Outlook accounts and the conversation views then works correctly
    for those messages.
So basically, it appears as if the registry key change worked for changing where the sent mail from this account goes to, but Outlook doesn't realize that's where they are so conversation views won't work. Anybody have any ideas on this?

    Hi,
I can reproduce this behavior in my environment. Outlook can organize
Inbox and other mail folders in conversation view, but Outlook can't organize emails in other mailboxes within one conversation thread.
When we set the registry to have Outlook save email in the "Sent Items" folder of the generic account, the sent mails are not in their own mailboxes. So in theory, it's the default and proper behavior of Outlook.
Something you may want to know about Conversation group:
