Conversion from RDF to XML Publisher

Hai,
This is my first posting. I am presently working on XML publisher.
1) I need to convert reports from report builder 6 to XML publisher.
I am using the following procedure.
1. In the Define window change the output to XML.
2. Run the report. Save the output as .XML file.
3. Using the XML file generate the RTF file. Do necessary change.
4. Register in the XML publisher administrator responsibility.
Is this the correct process of converting the reports or is there any other method or tool that can be
used?
2)     Can you let me know the process of converting in BI publisher latest version also?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
It looks like you have got it pretty much spot on. There are a few things that you must ensure you have done correctly in the XMLP Admin responsibility for XMLP to pick up the templates when you run your concurrent program.
1. Locate the required Concurrent Program definition and using the COPY button at the bottom left of the form copy the Concurrent Program and give it a new NAME and SHORT NAME. The main reason for doing this is that if Oracle releases a patch that updates the original Concurrent Program, it will not affect your new custom one. Make a note our you new Concurrent Program SHORT NAME as you will need this later.
2. Change the output of your new Concurrent Program to XML and Save.
3. Add your new Concurrent Program to the required Request Group so it can be seen by the responsibility you want to run it in.
4. Run the report and save the XML Output to a location on your local machine.
5. Using the MS Word Template Builder Plug in, load you XML Data and build your RTF template. Test this using the Preview functionality in the Template Builder plugin.
6. Login to eBusiness Suite with the XML Publisher Administrator responsibility and go to Data Template.
7. Create a new Data Definition. The Name and Description can be anything meaningful. HOWEVER the SHORT NAME must be exactly the same as the SHORT NAME of the new Concurrent Program you have created. If this is incorrect XMLP will not be able to pick up the Data Definition when the Concurrent Program is run!! Click Save/Apply and that is that step completed.
8. Click the Template Manager tab at the top right of the page and create a new Template Definition. Here the Name and Short Name can be anything you like. Select the name of the Data Definition you have just created. The template type should be RTF for an RTF Word template. Click Save/Apply
9. Now run your Concurrent Program and the XMLP should automatically pick up your template and output your XMLP Report.
There are tools available that can convert an RDF Oracle Report, these are available in the latest version of the MS Word Template Builder Plugin. These will take an RDF file and create a DATA TEMPLATE (an XML version of the RDF query), and an RTF Template (a template version of the RDF Layout).
These can then be uploaded into eBusiness Suite in much the same way as detail above. The difference is that you have to create a new Concurrent Program and instead of using an Oracle Reports Concurrent EXECUTABLE, you use an XMLP Concurrent EXECUTABLE. This is well documented in the XMLP User Guide under Data Templates.
I hope this helps a little. Please let me know if you are still having issues running RDF reports with XMLP.

Cj

  • Reports 6i conversion from rdf to rex

    Hi All,
I am using Reports 6i. I wanted to convert my reports from rdf to rex so that I can open the rex file in a notepad and change some bolierplates. I was suprised to see that there were no boilerplates in the rex file.
Am I missing something in my conversion.
If it doesn't have boilerplates in the rex file, when I convert back from rex to rdf how does it put back the boilerplates (Labels) in the rdf file.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Migration of our reports from Streamserve to XML publisher in Oracle EBS

    Dear All,
I am working for a company using Oracle Applications 11.5.10.2 and we have several critical reports developped with Streamserve V3 (Customer Invoice , Sales Order Acknowledgment, Shipping Advice, PO layout, ...).
For various reasons we plan to abandon Streamserve and migrate to XML publisher or BI publisher whose functionalities seem to cover most of our needs.
However, my knowledge of XMLP/BIP is quite basic and I need some information on how to implement the reports.
I will be very glad and grateful if someone accepts to share his/her experience by answering a few questions :
    1) What are the main differences between the XML publisher version included in APPS 11.5.10.2 and the standalone version of BI publisher ?
    2) In most of our reports the language depends on the third party (vendor, customer, carrier, ...) so in the same report batch we can have some documents to be printed in English, while some other should be in French.
Is it possible to achieve that with XMLP or is the language to be chosen when submitting the concurrent request ?
    3) As for languages, the delivery of the document (email or printed paper) depends also on the third party.
Is it possible in a same batch to have some documents emailed and other not ?
    4) The bursting engine seems to be the main solution to manage the way documents are delivered.
    a) How can we automatically launch it after the main request completion ? (most of our reports are scheduled to run periodically)
    b) Is it possible to make bursting with a dynamically generated control file ?
    c) What if the bursting engine does not couver all our needs ? Is there a way to develop our own deliver logic ? If so, where to find a step by step procedure to achieve that ? (knowing that we are newbies in Java language)
    5) Some of our reports must be generated in PCL rather than PDF. I think that is not native in XMLP so what may be the workaround ?
Thanks in advance for your very helpfull answers.
    Best regards
    Karim Helali
    Paris, France

Thank you Steven for your quick reply.
    Here are my comments/precisions :
    1) What we would like to konw is what are the functionnalities included only in that standalone version. This way we can decide if it is worth paying the quite expensive extra licence for BIP or if the EBS version of XMLP is enough for us.
I tried out to find this quite basic information without success. If anyone can indicate an oracle reference document
    2) I know that the language is chosen via the template. Also, when you submit an XMLP concurrent request in EBS you have to choose which template to apply for the layout. So it looks like it is not posssible within a unique concurrent request to generate documents in more than one language. Is it so or am I missing something ?
    3) Regarding documents multiple delivery management, I undertsand that we can do it either with bursting engine or with specific JAVA code implementing XMLP APIS. Even we are newbies in JAVA, we can deal with that. But I am quite puzzled as I find nowhere a document that explains how to develop that and especially how to integrate this within EBS.
Let me explain you our current logic with Streamserve and let me know how this can be implemented within XMLP :
    - a report is setup in EBS as Executable type = SqlPlus / Output Type=PDF
    - the SQLPLUS scripts takes into account the user request's parameters and generate an XML(like) file including all the data
    - at the end the SQLPLUS calls a specific shell that runs the Streamserve step : the XML file is passed to the specific streamserve binary report wich generates several outputs (global PDF for the concurrent request output + global PCL flow sent to the printer queue + 0-n physical file(s) for archiving + 0-n email(s) sent ...)
    - The language and delivery modes are not unique within a batch: they are decided per document in the streamserve binary report (based on third party setup included in the XML data file). So we don't need to launch a report batch per language or delivery mode.
I think such process should be possible using XMLP java APIS but I am quite stuck as I don't know how to start. Has anyone implemented such a global process in EBS with XML ?
    Thanks again

pls help me as i am not getting , how to solve this issue.

    Hi,
When we develop simple XML report also we used to get single data source either generated either from RDF or PL/SQL, in OAF XML data is coming from VO and XML Publisher API’s will process that data.
This approach works fine if you are having one VO, but if you are having two VOs then it is not possible (As per my understanding and comparing this scenario with simple XML publisher report).
I also faced same problem few months back, on my form I was having two VOs one for header and other for Lines and I have generate Report to show the data for both Headers and Lines. In my case I created a separate VO that was containing both Header and Line details and I was passing header Id to query that. I used query this VO only when someone clicks on “Print” button and it worked fine for me.

  • Can we use xml Publisher reporting for sql* Plus in EBS

    Hello All,
The current report is designed in Sql* Plus Executable report and the output is in txt format, Now the requirement is to have the output in Excel format.
So is it possible to use the xml reporting and make the output as Excel from the word template we design from MSword as we do for rdf(I have done few reports created in rdf to xml publisher reports in EBS and stand alone as well.).
Do the same procedure will suit for Sql*Plus reports tooo or Is there any work around to achieve this.
    Thanks and Regards
    Balaji.

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply..
I tried to do the follwoing
    1. changed the output to xml in the conc. prog.
    2. ran the same report but i am getting the follwoing error in the output file
The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
Invalid at the top level of the document. Error processing resource
Other reports which are using the Oracle Reports(rdf) as source, i am able to generated the xml as expected....
So my question is whether we can use sql* reports executable and generate xml in the conc.prog.
if any one has used the sql*reports for xml publisher reporting... please let me know, so that if its possible i will check my sql needs some validation or tuning...
    thanks in advance

  • BLOB image in XML Publisher

Currently we are using 6i reports to generate XML output, which in turn is passed to XML publisher to generate documents.
I am trying to access a blob image from DB in 6i reports. How Can I pass this image to XML publisher.
    Basically my doubt is:
How do I incorporate BLOB image from database into XML Publisher? What are the different approaches available?

Hey David, well, this isn't the unique solution for displaying images in XMLP. The other alternative (wich is my plan b) is to have this images in a path in the server. So, you can bring the name of your image (maybe, a signature) from the database; I have test that and works very well.
I'm trying to use an URL because the signatures are stored as BLOBs in the db and I was trying to re-create the file in the server, but it became a little complicated. So, in my case, I just have to resolve any of this issues and I'ld have my images in the reports.

  • XML Publisher and Garnishments

We are converting our code from Optio to XML Publisher. We started with what we thought was our most simplistic form (Garnishments), but have been unable to find what process to relate the XML template to in order to get our output.
If anyone out there has setup garnishments out of Oracle Payroll with XML Publisher I would greatly appreciate some insight on how this was done so we can move forward. We've been stalled for a couple weeks.
    Thanks,

Hi, were you able to implement XML Checkwriter with garnishments eventually? Oracle is still working on it (BUG 6779249 ), but if you have a workaround, Could you please teach me how to do it. This is critical for our go live.

  • Default reply-to email address using XML Publisher Enterprise

I'm currently just testing out XML Publisher. I've noticed that when I use the web interface to email a report (with either the send button or scheduling the report to run at a specific time), the SENDER is always set to "[email protected]". How do I go about changing this default email address.
I've seen samples on how to do this with a control file when trying to create reports using java API, but nothing on how to setup a default email address when users are using the out of the box configuration (the sample reports in this case).

After more searching, I found this for anyone who is interested:
Re: how to personalize from address in xml publisher
I did as instructed and copied the file from the installation CD, modified the file and it worked like a charm.

  • Calling XML Publisher report(RDF based) From OAF

    Hi All,
I have requirement where i need to call one of the custom XML Publisher report from oaf by passing the parameters.
and i dnt want this using concurrent program.
I have an idea of calling xml publisher report which is Data Template based(XML).
    http://oracle-hack.blogspot.ae/2012/04/launching-xml-publisher-from-oa.html
but in my case the report is RDF based.
They are generating the XML using one of the custom rdf. How can we achieve this?
    Please help.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
Yeah yes. this method i know in my case the Custom XML Report is based on a rdf.
So just i want to know it can be achievable ir not? if so how?

  • Report 6i rdf's and XML Publisher

I'm trying to decide whether to implement Reports Developer 10g or XML Publishing as our reporting tool. Can I get some feedback from XML Publisher users who have also worked with the Oracle reporting tool Reports 6i? (I'm currently working with 6i)
How difficult is it to convert existing .rdf's into XML douments?
Are the complex queries represented in the 6i data model neatly transferred to the XML document or is there a lot of tweaking involved?
Do you find that you can create complex queries in the XML Publisher tool or is it easier to do it in Reports 6i and transfer the results over to XML?
How many of the Oracle seeded reports that are delivered as .rdf's have you converted to using the XML Publisher?

    Hi Tim,
Context: R12 France Telecom (FT) migration from 11i
FT Reports are complex and the quantity of data / size of files generated by reports can reach up to 20Go. So I need to convert RDF to DATA Template because RDF can not generate some so big files (limit=2Go in 11i and may be 10Go in 12)
I experience some troubles / issues / limits with reports conversion to XML.
1 - some Data templates are not generated because of error : [052107_102109040][][EXCEPTION] java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 0, Size: 0. I sent you 2 mails in the past with error detail but have no answer.
2 - Data Templates are not directly usable because Reports include call to packages stored in PLL files. Pakages definition are well include in XML file generated by Report converter (1st step of conversion) but are not take in account when PL/SQL routine generation (Data template generation).
Can you help me especially for the 1st issue
I'd like to show a XMLP demo to FT using the Data source generator XDODTEXE in GL. I see XDOGLDEMO and GLGENJRNDT concurrent programs but there is no Data Definition / XML Data Template associated. Can you tell me if it exists a Data Template and where it can be retrieved from.

  • RDF output to XML Publisher

    Hello All,
Has anyone out there taken output from an RDF and presented it in XML Publisher from concurrent manager 11.5.10.2 ?
It seems like it might be possible. Maybe:
-set the RDF output to XML
-produce an RTF template in Word for the RDF
-Associate the report with the new template in XML Publisher responsibility
    Sounds like it might work.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Bradley

I am not sure about the Concurrent Manager part. But with the latest release of BI Publisher standalone, one can convert RDF's directly to BI Publisher Templates. Quite a handy utility. I have blogged about it here http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2007/08/22/oracle-reports-to-bi-publisher-conversion-utility/. I am not sure whether this can be used to convert some complex RDF's (which would be the case in ebusiness suite) but this can serve as a good starter.
    Thanks,
