Conversion of a float to IEEE 754 hexa (and vice versa)
Hello everyone,
I need to convert a float into an hexadecimal value to transmit it on a communication bus (I also have to decode the hexa into a float). I need this hexadecimal to respect the IEEE 754 technical standart. I'm trying to do it with the basic functions of Labview but I'm facing some problems. You'll find attached my VI.
If someone has already done such a function or know an easier way to do it, I'll be very grateful.

If your communication bus in only using singles, then avoid doubles in your code.
How are you converting to a Single from the Doubles? In my quick experiment, I got the right answer.

Converting from String to float and vice versa
I'm interested in people's thoughts on where common logic to convert between various field types should be stored in an application to minimise code duplication and maintenance.
I have an application which consists of an object and a jPanel which displays and maintains this object. The object contains a number of private float fields which are accessed by getters and setters. The jPanel contains one jTextField for each of the fields within the object.
Currently I have numerous lines of code in the jPanel to convert between the values needed by the getters and setters in the object (i.e. float) and the String value used by the jTextFields. This code handles cases where the String value may be blank or null.
I've thought that one alternative to having all this conversion/validation code in the jPanel is to create a second set of getters and setters for each field which accept and return String values.
What do people think about this? Is it advisable for only have one getter and setter for a variable? Should I put the conversion/validation logic for each field into a seperate common routine?

You should go with whatever works best for you. By creating multiple getters and setter you save yourself from repeating the same code throughout your program. -
Helvetica Neue Pro -- Mac to PC font conversion (and vice versa)
I have a designer I exchange files with -- she's on a Mac, I'm on a PC (don't judge). Everything is seamless because we're both using Illustrator files created in CC. The one issue we're having is with fonts, specifically with Helvetica Neue Pro font family. They don't substitute automatically because the PC version names of that font family do not precisely match the names of her Mac Helvetica Neue Pro family. I have compatible (visually speaking) Helvetica Neue fonts (LT Std) that you can 'find and replace' each time either of us opens a file, but it's a pain. Is there a way around this without having to purchase the (very expensive) Helvetica Pro family OpenType fonts? And if I purchase that font family, will it even solve the problem? Or asked another way, is there a Helvetica Neue font family that is named the same in both PC and MAC versions?

Conversion of serial output (IEEE 754) to single
Hi,
I'm trying to read out the actual values of a MKS PR4000B pressure sensor. I managed to get a connection and read/write data to the device (using serial read/write), but I'm having trouble to convert the read output to a single.
The manual tells me the floating number is conform to IEEE 754, the response I get are 8 bytes: @head, actual value.byte3, actual value.byte2, 0x00, @head, actual value.byte1, actual value.byte0, 0x00
I would like to do a cast type to convert it (like in: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&thread.id=195115&view=by_date_ascending&page=1), but never seem to get the right results.
HO\@ps@ should translate to something like 01.903

I am really confused. The datatype double should be in C++ and Java the same standard acc. to IEEE-754.
But when I try to investigate the several bytearrays created from a double value e.g. 1.1d, it is different in C and Java.

It seems my C-program created a bad array. I finally
found out, that the Java and C Array of each double is
exactly turned.
C[0] == J[7]
C[1] == J[6]
C[2] == J[5]
its probably big endian vs little endian issues plus on top of that nibble swapping.
I happen to be working on this very problem at this instant. I'll see what I can dig up. -
Convert Floating Point Decimal to Hex
In my application I make some calculations using floating point format DBL,and need to write these values to a file in IEEE 754 Floating Point Hex format. Is there any way to do this using LabVIEW?

Good news. LabVIEW has a function that does exactly what you want. It is well hidden though...
In the Advanced/Data manipulation palette there is a function called Flatten to String. If you feed this funtion with your DBL precision digital value you get the IEEE-754 hexadecimal floating point representation (64 bit) at the data string terminal (as a text string).
I attached a simple example that shows how it works.

Yes, I have a LabVIEW program which is streaming binary (IEEE-754) data to disk to a file with the extension *.rap, and I would like to know if it is possible to read this file into DIAdem directly?
I attach in the folder *.zip the VI and several *.rap file. The VI ("PXI31.vi") write these *.rap files in the NI PXI 8186. I have too a VI ("concatenar_archivos.vi") that transfer and concatenate these *.rap files in a PC. In the folder "NI.zip", you have several *.rap file and one *.txt file that the conversion in float of file "5_11-43-05_11-10-2007_NI.Rap". Like this, you can to compare.
In the *.rap file acquisition, from the "5_11-..rap" you have 48 channels and 120 sample. And in other *.rap file acquisition, I have 32 channels and 500000 sample but I can't send this file because it's big file.

How to read register storaged in IEEE 754
Hi!
I need to build an application to read registers from my gauge. Application is almost finished but values i get on from holding register are different than values on my gauge (ex. i have voltage 230V on gauge, and values about 20k in application). Gauge stores values in IEEE 754 32-bit format and I have no idea how to read it to get correct value. I saw it's possible with using "Type cast", but i don't know how to configure it, I am totally newbie in LabVIEW. I will be much grateful if someone could show me a VI with reading from IEEE 754 option, or just tell me how to do it in detail (what to click, what to write, etc )

Go to Solution.Notice your red dots, they indicate a data type mismatch. Remove the byte array to string, because it truncates your U16 array elements to U8. Typecast and unflatten accepts U16 arrays directly. (corrected, see answer below)
Also change your "holding registers" to a diagram constant (righ-click terminal...change to constant). Only the type matters, the data is irrelevant here. (Shouldn't it be a scalar SGL instead?)

You can use the following SQL statement to convert number in to words:
SELECT TO_CHAR (TO_DATE(TO_CHAR(50560,'99999999999'),'J'),'JSP') from dual;
will output:
FIFTY THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED SIXTY
Keep in mind, there is some restriction here, as we are using Oracle Julian Date for conversion, and as per Oracle restriction Julian days can be between 1 and 5373484 (31-Dec-9999). So if your number range is between this, then you can use it with no problem.

Help with binary to decimal, binary to hex, and hex to ascii or ascii to hex program
I decided to do a program that will do binary to decimal, binary to hex, and hex to ascii for a project related to a java programming course, which only needs to perform features from chapters 1-6 and 8 of Tony Gaddis's book. The functions work fine as their own main programs out side of this combined effort, so can anyone help me determine why I get the following 41 errrors saying: class, interface, or enum expected as well as any other errors that may show up afterwards because I'm stumped. My flowcharts, which have to be revised after discovering that my previous function were logically incorrect after running them in their own main are attached below as the spec sheet.

Excellent! Commenting out code is EXACTLY how you troubleshoot problems like yours.
Comment out sections of code until the problem goes away. Then start adding back ONE SECTION of code at a time until the problem occurs. When it does you have just FOUND the problem.
If you do that you wind up with code that looks like this:

Notice ANYTHING UNUSUAL?
You have a complete CLASS definition followed by a method definition.
Methods have to be INSIDE the class - you can NOT define methods on their own.
Write modular code.
Write EMPTY methods - just the method signature and maybe a RETURN NULL if you need to return something.
Then add calls to those empty methods.
When everything compiles and runs find you can start adding code to the methods ONE METHOD AT A TIME.
Test compile and run after you add the code for each method. -

works fine on my 4.7 WAS 620 system. However, I've got complaints from other SDNers (I've posted a weblog with code) that they get systax error <i>V_HEX1 must be a character-type data object (data type C, N, D, T or String), field string).</i>
Is there an alternative, version-independant way, to concatenate hex and text into text?
My problem is that I don't have older SAP version available, so I can't test.

I have executed this very code on a 4.6C system and on a 4.0B system. I did not get any error. But if I change the type of v_hex to an integer, then I get the error which says the data type of v_hex should be C,N,D,T or string.
I wonder why I do not get the error even when v_hex is of type x.
Anyways, if the error does come, then may be we can use something like this -
DATA: v_hex1 TYPE x VALUE '0A',
v_text1 TYPE char100,
v_text2 TYPE char100.
write v_hex to v_text2.
CONCATENATE v_text2 v_text1 INTO v_text2.
This will not give you any error as such, but 0A is interpreted as a character string :-(.

Time Capsule / Airport Base Station Misconfiguration??
So, I use my computer for anything but file transfer, tcp/udp connections, sharing, etc. I hired an IT service to come in and beef up my Firewall with a SonicWall. For data backup I use a TimeCapsule/Airport Base Station combo 3TB. Having the hardest
