Converting a delimited string to a string array

I have a string:
(no quotes)
"Aout,B,Cin,D,Etest".
I want to convert this into a 1D array of
Aout
B
Cin
D
Etest
I could not find a VI that does that. Best way to do this ?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

The string to array function will do that.
Use a comma as the delimimter and a 1d-array as the data-type.

  • Converting vector to string array

    How can I convert values in a vector into a string array?
    Vector formsVector = new Vector();
    while (rs.next())
    {formsVector.add(rs.getString("forms"));}
    String forms[] = (String[])formsVector.toArray();
    I tried the above line but it did not work. Any input please?
    Thanks

    .... What is the difference between the two as
    according to online help, both are same.
    String forms[] = (String [])formsVector.toArray();
    String forms[] = (String [])formsVector.toArray( new
    String[0] );The difference lies in the type of the object returned from toArray. The first form you list, formsVector.toArray(), always returns an Object[]. In your example, you'll get a ClassCastException at runtime when you cast to String[].
    The second form will try to use the array you pass in. If it's not big enough, it'll create a new one of the same type as that array. This is what's happening when passing a zero-length array into toArray.
    My personal preference is to save an extra instantiation and build the array to the proper size to begin with:String forms[] = (String [])formsVector.toArray( new String[formsVector.size()] );

  • How to convert a delimited string to XML?

    Hi there,
    Please help me to convert a pipe delimited string into XML, e.g.
    string -------SubName:abc|SuvValue:123|
    required XML:
    <ROWS>
    <ROW>
    <SubName>abc</SubName>
    <SubValue>123</SubValue>

    </ROWS>
    or
    string -------abc|123|
    required XML:
    <ROWS>
    <ROW>
    <SubName>abc</SubName>
    <SubValue>123</SubValue>
    </ROW>
    </ROWS>
    -----i am trying to first parse the string into a table type and then using the DBMS_XMLGen.getXML function but unable to get values from table type...
    any prompt response is highly appriciated...
    Regards, Hassan

    Hi Hassan,
    If your version supports it (ie 10gR2 and upwards), you can use XQuery to directly parse the string and generate the XML :
    SQL> SELECT XMLQuery(
      2   '<ROWS>
      3    <ROW> {
      4     for $i in ora:tokenize($str,"\|")
      5     return
      6      if ($i) then element {substring-before($i,":")} {substring-after($i,":")}
      7      else ()
      8   } </ROW>
      9   </ROWS>'
    10   passing sys_xmlgen('SubName:abc|SubValue:123|') as "str"
    11   returning content
    12  ).getClobVal()
    13  FROM dual;
    XMLQUERY('<ROWS><ROW>{FOR$IINO
    <ROWS><ROW><SubName>abc</SubName><SubValue>123</SubValue></ROW></ROWS>
    Each element is built based on its name from the input string.

  • Converting Delimited string to XML message

    Hi,
    We are trying to convert pipe delimited string into a xml schema using a XSD and BPEL funtion. Consider a scenario in which message has 5 fields with last as 2 optional fields. So the incoming string message can be like "1|2|3" or "1|2|3|4|5". In this case how the XSD should look like, since for each field we have to give "terminatedby" option in the XSD. So the issue is coming for element 3 where the delimiter can be "|" or "eol" (end of line). How to specify that ? Is there any option to use like "optionally terminated by?"
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • DateTime String array in Graph

    Greetings.
    I tried to plot DateTime string array VS Numbers array with no success in the XY Graph object.
    I even converted the DateTime string array to DateTime type using the VI called "Convert_String_to_TimeStamp.vi" with also no success as the X (Time) is just very big numbers and a datetime format.
    Please check the attached shot, it will describe the situation clearly.
    Thanks in advance

    You could read the file line by line and use the scan from sting function to convert to a timestamp.
    Now is the right time to use %^<%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S%3uZ>T

  • Converting from spreadshet string to array and then back to spreadsheet string

    My questions is; why is the Spreadsheet string to array function creating more data than the original string had when you change the array back into a spreadsheet string. Im trying to analyze a comma delimited file using array functions since my column and row size is constant, but my data varies. Thus my reason for not using string parsing functions which would get more involved and difficult. So, however, after i convert to a 2D array of data from the comma delimited file I read from, and then I convert back to string using the Array to Spreadsheet String, I get added columns to the file, which prevents another program from receiving these files. Also, the data which I am reading is not all contiguous, it has gaps in some places for empty data. Looking at the file compared to the original after it has gone from string to array and then back to string again, looks almost identical except for the file size which got larger by 400 bytes and where the original file has empty spaces, the new file has a lot of commas added. Any idea?
    Charles

    The result you get is normal when the spreadsheet string contains rows of uneven length. Since the array rows have the same number of elements, nil values are added during the coonversion. And of course, the back to string conversion keep those added values in the string, with the associated commas.
    example : 3 x 3 array
    1,2,3
    4
    5,6,7
    is converted into
    1 2 3
    4 0 0
    5 6 7
    then back to
    1,2,3
    4,0,0
    5,6,7

  • How to split a delimited string into an array...

    I have a delimited string coming in to a stored procedure (SP) for vb.net that needs to be parsed/converted into multi-dimensional arrays. The reason I am using delimited string because I do not know how to pass arrays to oracle SP from vb.net using ODP or MPO (Microsoft's Provider for Oracle).
    My delimited string looks something like this: "level1_1|level2_1:level3_1;level3_2|level2_2:level3_1;level3_2~Level1_2|level2_2:level3_1"
    So, its going to be 3d array. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me solving this puzzle. Any examples would be a great help.
    Thanks for everything in advance,
    Vincent

    Hi Andrew,
    I appreciate your response. Currently I use "Microsoft provider for Oracle" to connect to Oracle Database because when I started with my application there wasn't ODP (Oracle Data Provider for .Net) available. So, I used Microsoft provider and still using it.
    I know how to use arrays in .Net but the problem is I can not find the Oracle Type to pass the array to Oralce Stored Procedure using this provider.
    It would be very helpful if someone shows me the syntax for both to receive from oracle and transport to Oracle. I haven't tried using ODP yet. May be now its the time to see how it works.
    And of course, your link was very helpful but I am already doing that (which is very slow for multi-dimentional array). So, I thought there might be a built in function in oracle which does that. Because most of the programming languages does have built in function for this conversion. for example: Split() in vb, java, javascript etc.
    Anyway, if anyone finds any clues as to how to pass milti-dimentional arrays from .Net (microsoft) to oracle stored procedure please, please let me know how to do that.
    -Vincent

  • Is there an easy way to convert a long string into an array?

    I can convert a long string into a 1-d array by parsing and using build array, but I would like to know if there is a function to make this easier.
    For example:
    from/   aaaaaaaabbbbbbbbccccccccdddddddd         (string of ascii)
    to/       an array that is 1-d with each element having eight characters

    Try something like this:
    (If you can guarantee that the string length is an integer multiple of 8, you an drop the two triangular modes in the upper left. )

  • Converting Floats to comma-delimited strings?

    Does anyone know of any methods or classes that can convert a float to a comma delimited string?
    Alternatively, conversion of a non-comma delimited string to a comma-delimited string would be just as good.
    An example of a comma-delimited string would be the display on the iPhone calculator.
    -- tia rick

    Also in this guide:
    https://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/DataFo rmatting/DataFormatting.html
    and a small example:
    NSNumberFormatter *numberFormatter = [[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init];
    [numberFormatter setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterCurrencyStyle];
    //[numberFormatter setFormat:@"$#,##0;$#,##0;-$#,##0"];
    label.text = [numberFormatter stringFromNumber:[NSNumber numberWithFloat:floatVal]];
    [numberFormatter release];
    notice the commented out line is commented out because apparently setFormat is not supported on the iPhone (yet???) It's what I really need.
    good luck

  • How to convert an int array to string array?

    Hi,
    Can anyone please help me with this question?
    int number={4,6,45,3,2,77};
    I like to convert this into a list and sort
    List mylist = Arrays.asList(number);
    Collections.sort(mylist);
    But first I need to convert the int array to String array.
    Please advise. Thanks.

    If you want to convert your int array to a String array, you have no choice but doing a conversion element by element in a for loop.
    However, if the sort method doesn't behave as desired, you can use the one with 2 parameters, the second parameter being a comparator class.
    Check the javadoc for more information : http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/java/util/Collections.html

    result.append(a[0]);

    return result.toString();
    Or in 1.5 lingo
    StringBuilder result = new StringBuilder(); //slightly less overhead

    String[] strArray = (String[]) list.toArray();
    Disclaimer: Code not tested; use at your own

    String[] strArray = (String[]) list.toArray();The array returned is an object array. You should use:
    String[] strArray = (String[]) list.toArray(new String[list.size()]);That methods returns an array of the same type as the argument.

    You are using the wrong method to convert it to a String array.
    Try replacing this line:
    String[] tabStr = (String[])strList.toArray();
    With this line:
    String[] tabStr = (String[])strList.toArray( new String[ 0 ] );
    That should work for you.
