Converting date strings

I have a date string in the format "14/11/2003 16:13:56" and I need to convert it to another string in format "2003-14-11" how can I do it?
I've tried the DateFormat and SimpleDateFormat classes but I can't manage to make it work.
Thanks in advance.

thanks TimTheEnchantor, that worked fine.
Here's the code in case someone else needs it:
        String date="05/11/2003 15:22:19";
        Date convDate;
        SimpleDateFormat formatterIn;
        SimpleDateFormat formatterOut;
        try {
        formatterIn = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss");
        convDate=formatterIn.parse(date);
        formatterOut = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-dd-MM");
        date=formatterOut.format(convDate);
        } catch (Exception e) {
            date = "";
        }

  • Converting Date Strings to Months

    I need to know how I can convert a Date String to a Month.
    For example, my Date String is 2/19/09, I need this converted to return February.   I need one formula which will take in account for all months.
    I am currently using the following to convert to a date, but I'm not sure how to then convert this to return a month... January - December.
    CStr({?EndDate},"yyyy-MM-dd")
    Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Thank you so much, this does give me the month.
    How can I use this to group my report by month and then under it by received date?
    For example...
    February
        2/1/09     Ticket information.....
        2/2/09     Ticket information.....
        2/18/09   Ticket information....
    March
        3/1/09     Ticket information.....
        3/2/09     Ticket information.....
        3/18/09   Ticket information....
    And so on....
    Thanks again in advance.

  • Converting date string

    What is the easiest way to " April 26, 2009" to "04/26/2009."
    Thanks.
    Pedro

    The easiest way is to coerce the string to a date object, then extract the elements a you want them:
    set theStr to " April 26, 2009"
    set d to date theStr
    return ((month of d as integer) & "/" & day of d & "/" & year of d) as text
    As long as AppleScript can coerce the initial string into a date object this should work for any date.

    So you need convert all date in above query to SQL server required format.

    In your post you ask how to convert a string value to a date.  The value returned from the Get-AdUser is already a date.  It does not need to be converted.
    Bill has sshown one way to convert a date to a string and there are other methods.  You need to clarify your question.
    If you are really trying ot convert strings to dates then you can start with this:
    [datetime]'01/21/1965 13:33:23'
    Most date strings aer autodetected by the class.

    You can search the forums for that error message and find previous discussions - they all boil down to the same problem.  Somewhere in your query that calls this function, the code invoked implicitly converts from string to date/datetime.  In general,
    this works in any version of sql server if the runtime settings are correct for the format of the string data.  The fact that it works in one server and not in another server suggests that the query executes with different settings - and I'll assume for
    the moment that the format of the data involved in this conversion is consistent within the database/resultset and consistent between the 2 servers.
    I suggest you read Tibor's guide to the datetime datatype (via the link to his site below) first - then go find the actual code that performs this conversion.  It may not be in the function you posted, since that function also executes other functions.
    You also did not post the query that calls this function, so this function may not, in fact, be the source of the problem at all.

  • How to convert a String("yyyy-mm-dd") to the same but in Date format ?

    Hi,
    can anyone plz tell me how to convert a String to a date format.I'm using MSACCESS database.I want to store this string in the database.So i need to convert it to a date format since the table is designed such a way with date/time type for date field.I used SimpleDateFormat ,but i can't able to convert.The code is given below:
    coding:
    public String dateconvertion(String strDate)
    try
    SimpleDateFormat sdfSource = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd");
    Date date = sdfSource.parse(strDate);
    SimpleDateFormat sdfDestination = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd ");
    strDate = sdfDestination.format(date);
    catch(ParseException pe)
    System.out.println("Parse Exception : " + pe);
    return(strDate);
    }

    i used prepared statement even now i am getting error like this.....
    i have included the prepared statement package also...
    my coding:
    ResultSet rsdatetemp = null;
    PreparedStatement ps = null;
    String query ="select distinct itemcode from sales where bill date between ? and ?";
    ps = precon.prepareStatement(query);
    ps.setDate(1,d1);//d1 and d2 are in date format
    ps.setDate(2,d2);
    rsdatetemp = ps.executeQuery();
    error :
    symbol : method setDate(int,java.util.Date)
    location: interface java.sql.PreparedStatement
    ps.setDate(1,d1);

  • Converting a string into mySQL date format

    I have a bit of code that collects data values from a bean and I want it to then insert this into a mySQL database. My string is in the format "23/12/1983", how can i put this into a date field in my database? The bit of code I have got so far looks like this...
    String month = formHandler.month + "/";
    String day = formHandler.day + "/";
    String year = formHandler.year ;
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    sb.append(day);
    sb.append(month);
    sb.append(year);
    String myDate = sb.toString();myDate is the value that I want to go into the database

    Limo2kz,
    The key to inserting a date into a database is to convert the date string into an SQL friendly format. i.e. yyyy-MM-dd.
    One way of doing this is as follows:
    SimpleDateFormat NICE_DATE_FORMAT =
    new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    SimpleDateFormat SQL_DATE_FORMAT =
    new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd");
    Date date = new Date();
    try {
    date = NICE_DATE_FORMAT.parse(dateString);
    } catch (ParseException pe) {
    pe.printStackTrace();
    String sqlDate = SQL_DATE_FORMAT.format(date);
    Now it is just a matter of creating the insert statement like normal, and making sure that the date string is in quotes.
    I hope that helps.

  • How to convert Date to String

    Hi All,
    I have a dimension member in my classic plannnig application whose datatype is Date,
    Now i want to use that member inside the following function:
    @TODATE(<date format goes here> , <date string goes here>);
    e.g
    @TODATE("mm-dd-yyyy" , "Dimension Member Name");
    Now the second parameter to this function is of string type, whereas the data type of my member is "Date", so is there any way to convert this date to string?
    Notes:-
    I am using the above script inside the member formula.
    I run the code with some static value e.g.
    @TODATE("mm-dd-yyyy" , "01-12-2011"); and it works quite fine so i am pretty much sure that issue is related to incompatible data types.

    Have a look at the following post it should give you an idea - Re: @DatePart formula produces constant result

  • Problem in converting the String to Date with time zone GMT

    Hi,
    When I tried to convert the string 12/05/2009 to Date, the time zone is set to BST.On the other hand, for the date 12/12/2009, the time zone is set to GMT. What should I do to get the time zone as GMT all the time.?
    SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    String dateString = "12/05/2009";
    System.out.println(myDate.toString());

    I think you are all missing the point. java.util.Date objects always alway always store the date as the number of milliseconds since 1/1/1970 UTC so the only TimeZone they have its the implicit UTC. When you use the Date.toString() method the toString() method gets the default time zone from your environment and formats the data accordingly. This means that the same Date object will, by default, produce a different result for France and Australia and the US.
    So, if you have the date "12/5/2009" as a String then to convert it to a java.util.Date you must specify what TimeZone is implied. If it is your system time zone then you can just create a SimpleDateFormat object with the correct format and then use the parse() method to create the java.util.Date object and this will automatically be converted to UTC. If the date String represents some other time zone then you must explicitly set the time zone of the SimpleDateFormat object before parsing the string.
    The same approach applies when converting a java.util.Date object to a String. If you want anything other than your system time zone then you must explicitly tell the SimpleDateFormat what time zone you want the result formatted for.
